After lying blatantly about Tribal law, Rahul Gandhi uses the excuse of “free flow of a political speech” while responding to NCST notice

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has been in trouble ever since he made libellous remarks claiming that Narendra Modi has legislated a law allowing ‘shooting down’ of Tribals. In response to a notice by National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) over his blatant lie, Rahul reiterated that he made the comments in “free flow of a political speech”, according to officials.

While addressing an election rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol on April 23, Gandhi had peddled an outrageous lie, saying, “The Narendra Modi government has made a new law in which there is a line that says tribal’s can be shot at…They can snatch your land, take away your jungle and water and then say that tribal’s can be shot at”.

He had also alleged that the government seeks to amend the provisions of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 “drastically and in a draconian manner”.

Taking cognisance of the remark, the NCST had on May 3 issued a notice to the Gandhi Scion, and now his counsel has come up with this explanation. The statement issued by his counsel claimed that his client summarised the finalised amendment to Section 66 of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 in which “statutory empowerment is being provided for use of force and highly intrusive prejudicial and physical measures against citizens who are mostly tribal and forest inhabitants”.

However, the NCST rubbished Rahul’s counsel’s claims stating that the proposed amendment is related to “power to prevent the commission of an offence. After the amendment, it will be called the Indian Forest Act, 2019”.

On May 2, the election commission had also slapped him with a notice for the defamatory remark. Then too Rahul had said that he didn’t violate the poll code and claimed that his remarks were part of the current political rhetoric and were “free flow of a political speech”.

In his 11 page reply to the EC, he had then asked them to be ‘fair and non-discriminatory’ in dealing with complaints of poll code breach. He had alleged that the Congress was being targeted unfairly and that the various poll violations of the BJP weren’t been acted upon.

Prior to this, BJP had also sent a legal notice to Rahul Gandhi for his defamatory statements against PM Modi. It had granted Rahul Gandhi three days to respond to its legal notice, failing which a defamation suit was to be filed against him.

However, using the excuse of ‘political speech’ to peddle outrageous lies has been the Congress President’s regular strategy. The SC had sent a notice to him for attributing the ‘Chowkidar Chow Hai’ to the court. Following which he said that the remarks were made in the ‘heat of campaigning’. He was later forced to give an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court.

West Bengal: Internet services shut down in North 24 Parganas district after clashes leave 2 dead in Bhatpara

The West Bengal Government has suspended internet services as a precautionary measure in North 24 Paraganas district till Friday midnight following clashes between two groups at Bhatpara.

It was reported on Thursday that two people had died and three were injured as a consequence of the clashes which were said to be between Trinamool and BJP supporters. “The deceased has been identified as Rambabu Shaw and Dharmendra Shaw, while the details of those injured in the incident were yet to be ascertained,” the police officials said.

The clashes mark the continuation of the ever deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee. On the 10th of January, a mob of 200 had arrived in trucks at the NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata to attack doctors and interns following the death of Mohammed Sayeed. It had triggered widespread protests and a spate of attacks on medical institutions across the state.

More recently, a former Miss India Universe was attacked by a Muslim mob on her way home. In all these instances, the Police were mute spectators. Prominent Muslims were forced to urge Mamata Banerjee to take harsh action against the criminals because of the common perception that criminals are allowed to get away if they are Muslims.

Amidst all of this, political violence in the state continues unabated and BJP workers and supporters are being murdered at a worrying frequency. Even women are not being spared. With circumstances getting worse every day, things don’t appear to be getting better anytime soon.

World Cup wickets are the flattest wickets – Bumrah

Indian pacer and number one ODI bowler Jasprit Bumrah called the World Cup wickets in England as the flattest wicket he bowled on. There are already 16 innings in which a team scored more than 300 runs, whereas there are 16 hundreds scored so far in the tournament. Compared to this, bowlers have only able to take three 5 wickets haul in 26 games played in the competition.

“England has the flattest wickets; I feel England is the most difficult place for a bowler. There is usually no help,” Bumrah told the media

“You feel that the ball will swing in cloudy conditions, but it doesn’t swing or seam, so you rely on your accuracy,” Bumrah continued.

Bumrah also said opening the bowling with Mohammed Shami will hardly make a difference as all three (Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shami and him) have bowled together a lot of times.

“We’re just focusing on our strengths. When I’m bowling with Bhuvneshwar, we’re discussing that I’ve played with Shami before, the three of us have played before too. We’re just focusing on what we have to do; it doesn’t affect us.”

“Obviously it’s unfortunate. He played perfect innings against Australia; he’s an essential member,” Bumrah added.

Dhawan has been ruled out of World Cup due to fractured thumb while Bhuvneshwar has niggle issue and he is out for ten days. The Indian team is facing problems because of injuries and the latest to join the list is Vijay Shankar who suffers an injury after being hit on the toe during the practice session.

Scholarships for Minorities will fail as education doesn’t cure radicalization, the Modi govt should instead do this

When the tower of Babel meets the Theatre of the Absurd there is unprecedented madness. And it is this pandemonium around us that gives me the strength to voice what I will and not sound as off-key as much of the cacophony around. In our times when economists bend backwards to give credence to the unfeasible and data analytics ignore the obvious, I feel emboldened. Most importantly when failed recipes are rehashed to solve deteriorating problems – I dare to voice.

Much ink continues to flow on the slew of proposals by the Ministry of Minority Affairs in the new government. There is silence on the ends of the spectrum. The undisputed supporters of Modi, as well as the red in the left, will not voice anything about what may perhaps be justifiably termed as minority appeasement policies. I do not wish to discuss the merits or demerits of the proposals. I wish instead to bring in the NGO in this equation, despite the consternation of many. For in the domain of education and those in need, there may be a thing or two a specific breed of NGOs may have to contribute.

At the outset, it is also important to note that I will not waste ink on the glaring demerits of fraudulent and dubious FCRA NGOs that use Church and other dangerous foreign money to run a not so covert agenda to deracinate and destroy India. They exploit the needy in the most morally reprehensible mode by buying souls in exchange for the dole. For their likes, development is anathema and perpetuation of poverty is key.  I talk here only of those NGOs, and there are a few, that do their work quietly and surely on the foundational principle that with real development comes real empowerment and a helping hand is not a permanent crutch, but a temporary means towards eventual independence.

A few months back the Government came up with reservation policy for the economically backward classes. It was widely viewed as a much-needed correction of the caste-based policy that had hitherto left out the poor in the forward castes. What is important to note and was conveniently being sidelined was the fact that this criterion spanned all religious denominations. But then the monitory centred programmes followed, always in the attempt to alleviate impoverished backward masses.  When these were announced for the minorities one of the immediate concerns was again “But what of the poor among the Hindu?”

For a few years, I have been closely associated with a Pondicherry based NGO that has an extensive “Back to School” programme. It has made the economic criteria alone the basis of intervention. We target slums where there is little chance of duplication of work by other agencies; we especially target those slums and villages that we term as “Orphan” because their geographical location on the borders on Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu make it for neglect by both states. In short, we choose the difficult, even the impossible to effect change. And we have.

Organisations such as our struggle for funds as we systematically refuse shady foreign funding. We will be the first to stick our necks out and call for the repeal of FCRA licenses and dry up foreign funding and its destructive development retarding agenda in India. We instead would like to propose to the Government our model of intervention and make the case to make organisations such as ours an extension and liaison between its policies and funding and action on the ground so that the last homeless, slum and street dweller child is ensured an education. You may argue that there is no need for an NGO intermediary but I will argue otherwise. The NGO can work as a facilitator not only to alphabetise our children but can strengthen the social fabric in these areas by extensive outreach work and engage families into schemes provided by the government in vocational training and business start-up and loans. It can help with paperwork and identity documents, the lack of which is often a stumbling block in availing of most government schemes and facilities. It can do region and area-specific studies and set up suitable vocational training for school dropouts and also coordinate with government social welfare departments to bring schemes of skill development to school dropouts or 12th standard pass students.

Most importantly, NGOs can ensure that the model of intervention is not static. Social worker outreach and empowerment by vocational training, or micro credit, or entrepreneurship programmes for the economically backward can mean that there can be a time frame for the withdrawal of school sponsorship programmes. Funds can be then used for other supporting structures. These could include homework help centres and crèches with nutritious food that keeps children for the entire duration of working hours so that parents can go to work worry-free…and eventually, take up the basic responsibility of sending their own children to school.

One of the biggest rackets in the exploitation of children is the huge lie that is the Orphanage system. Most orphanages shamelessly even claim to house “semi-orphans” whatever in the world that term might mean. NGO’s can provide the financial assistance needed as well as the immense hard work on the ground required in order to get children to be reinserted into extended families. This practice is actually highly prevalent even among the economically most backward. Orphanages chip at this instinctive humanity in our people. It is a heartwarming fact that the next of kin even today do reach out to orphaned children or children who have lost or have been abandoned by the parent(s) and absorb them in their families. There are marvellous stories of care and sharing and correct reassuring assistance to just ensure education and perhaps medical help can actually do away with orphanages and alleviate the burned of children thus absorbed. This is more humane than the foster care system too. There are several other types of interventions and layers of work that social workers can achieve with quality outreach and follow up, paramount among them being child safety and prevention of all types of child exploitation.

What is interesting to note is that genuine development-oriented NGOs in the domain of education have over the years networked among themselves and in a given area several work together without replication and also liaise with other organisations for resources such as books, pedagogy and resource persons.

Most importantly NGOs have evolved well-oiled methodologies where there is minimal to zero cash transaction with beneficiaries. All fees, enrolment amounts, business plan requirements, microcredit loans, are paid directly to the agencies providing the benefit and not to the beneficiaries themselves. The litmus test for NGOs should be its openness to scrutiny by concerned Govt agencies and audits of accounts and programmes and fund flow. This will also see an automatic withdrawal of those NGOs that do not subscribe to development.

All this may sound chimerical – just that these are proven and extant models. I have seen it work.

You may argue that this is not replicable or scalable but to that, we say the issue is not scale but a resource. Ours is not the type of NGO that lands the crores of rupees. Few donors get convinced that their money should be project driven as deemed fit by the ground realities with indigenous solutions. Most money comes with an agenda with compliant Indian counterparts to implement pernicious plans of breaking India ideas. It is not surprising therefore that in the process of refusing Church and other dubious money we are branded non-secular. We are limited in our scope by the amount of funds raised by difficult means. If we received from these large government allocations for scholarships, amounts for specifically tailored programmes that suited best the process of development, empowerment and education of specific geographical areas keeping the economic criteria in mind, we could go a long way in taking the grassroots forward across the board. This would also root out the leftist activists’ claim to have the monopoly of the heart.

Minority specific programmes highlight their status as minorities. Besides, there is no proof or precedence that education stems radicalisation.

You may still argue that such a proposal seems farfetched. To that, we question what is it in the new proposals that seem genuinely transformational in the way it has been envisages to be. We will also say that the need for education is as vital for the Gipsy community as it is for the Irular tribals, as important for the children of migrant labourers as it is for the land less rural or the urban poor – regardless of religion. All these categories need targeted development to integrate into the mainstream and be a part of India’s growth story. Involve the NGOs; keep the criteria for scrutiny and audit uncompromising. We are to a tiny extent today already doing this work and a network of likeminded organisations can become the vital link for all of India, all religions all strata of society combined, to rise.

This will also cure a canker in our institutions of social sciences. When the requirement is extensive outreach and the resource is government funds and accountability is paramount, tolerance for dubious activism will reduce. Those who know the murky world of FCRA violators will also understand how many giant birds of prey this process will annihilate.

UP Lok Sabha candidate’s identity changed multiple times, but Twitter retained its ‘verified’ status

Micro-blogging social media platform Twitter has been accused of questionable behaviour with arbitrary rules of suspension, volatility in followers count and also with its dubious verification rules. Reinforcing these allegations, another flaw has surfaced where the identity of a Twitter handle is being constantly changed despite the identity being ‘verified’ by the social media platform by assigning a blue-tick to it.

Vinod Rajbhar, the Lok Sabha candidate belonging to Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, had a verified Twitter account during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Rajbhar, who had contested from Basti Lok Sabha constituency was using his Twitter account (@sbspbasti). But, after his loss in the elections, the name of the Twitter account has mysteriously changed to a new name Neetu Kala.

The following tweet from the verified Twitter account of National Spokesperson & Media & Social Media Head of Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party proves that the account @sbspbasti belonged to Vinod Rajbhar in April this year.

When a verified account changes its name or account name, the verification is withdrawn and the blue tick symbol indicating a verified account is removed. But, Twitter failed to remove the verified status of the account despite the identity of the account was altered.

The Twitter handle has now once again changed its name to Pooja Kushwaha. However, even after this second change, the handle had retained its verified status with a blue tick on its profile. Twitter user Ankur Singh noted the same and highlighted the issue.

Soon after realising their mistake, Twitter immediately revoked the verified status of the account and removed its ‘blue tick’ authentication. Nevertheless, the strange conduct by Twitter through its inconsistent rules and regulations has raised concerns in the country regarding its bias and incoherent way of functioning especially while exercising the power to suspend Twitter accounts.

Amidst the growing allegations of bias against users belonging to right-wing ideology, many users on microblogging site have consistently complained to Twitter that suddenly numbers of retweets and likes on Tweets posted them declined after higher numbers were shown for them.

Baijayant Jay Panda slams BJD for draping martyr soldier’s coffin with party flag, BJD says it will take action against the party workers

Former BJD leader Baijayant Jay Panda has slammed the party for politicising the death of a soldier by draping his coffin with the party flag of BJD.

Odia Jawan Naik Ajit Kumar Sahoo of 44 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) was martyred following an IED blast in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pulwama district on June 17. He was reportedly injured in the blast at Arihal on Monday and succumbed to his injuries the next day.

Soon an image of the martyr’s coffin wrapped in a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) flag went viral on social media. Seeing the image, the BJP National Vice President Baijayant Jay Panda sought an apology form the ruling party in Odisha.

Terming the incident “very unfortunate”, Panda took to Twitter to slam Odisha’s ruling party for “politicising the death of the soldier by draping his coffin with their party flag instead of the Tricolour.”

A resident of Badasuala village in Kamakhyanagar block of Dhenkanal district in Odisha, Sahoo had joined the Indian Army in 2015.

The Braveheart was cremated in full state honour. The mortal remains of martyr Ajit Sahoo reached the Biju Patnaik International Airport late night on Wednesday. Later it was taken to campus of the 120 Infantry Battalion campus, where a guard of honour was accorded.

Governor Ganeshi Lal, Ministers Ashok Panda and Prafulla Mallick, MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain and BJP leader Prakash Mishra offered floral tributes to the fallen jawan.

Ajit Kumar Sahoo’s brother Parameswar Sahoo appealed everyone not to politicise the issue. He said that some BJD members had placed the party flag on the coffin while paying tribute to the soldier. Later he had removed the flag.

Reacting to the development, BJD leadership distanced itself from the act, saying it was done by some party workers. BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra condemned the incident calling it unfortunate. He said that the party strongly condemns the incident, and added that the party will take action against the persons responsible for the same.

On June 17, the terrorist had carried out the attack at the mobile vehicle patrol of 44 RR with a vehicle-based IED. Nine jawans and two civilians were injured in the attack. The place where the attack took place was just 27 km away from the area where the CRPF convoy was attacked by a Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber on February 14 killing 44 CRPF Jawans in one of the worst terror attacks in the Valley.

‘Don’t destroy Delhi Metro for electoral gains, free rides don’t ensure women’s safety: Metro Man slams Manish Sisodia in response

In his reply to Manish Sisodia’s letter, ‘Metro Man’ E Sreedharan has slammed Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister for Aam Aadmi Party’s free metro rides for women and labelled it an election gimmick. He also elaborated on the reasons why the move will prove to be catastrophic for not only Delhi Metro but Metros in other cities without enhancing women’ security in any manner.

In his reply, E Sreedharan has said that the Delhi Metro is running on huge debt and will set a bad precedent for other Metros which are carrying huge debts as well. He cited that metro construction is occurring at a very slow pace due to fund constraints. Therefore, it may not be easy to attract loans the next time if Metros turn into a debt trap. He further commented that no country in the world offers free metro travel only for women.

He stated further, “If Delhi government is flush with money why not assist DMRC to procure more trains and construct more lines so that the present overcrowding can get relief. On the other hand, to my knowledge, the Delhi Government has delayed giving approval to the 4th phase expansion by 2 years nor come forward to offer link bus services for the last mile connectivity.”

On the matter of safety for women, the ‘Metroman’ said, “By giving free travel, the safety of women commuters is not at all enhanced. What about their safety once they step out of the metro and encounter lurking dangers on the road for want of safe link bus services? This is the area your Govt. should spend money and not fund free travel.”

The letter also emphasized that Sreedharan thought it was merely a poll gimmick. At one point, he said, “Everybody knows this is an election gimmick to win votes of women in the next assembly election.” To conclude the reply, he said, “I would, therefore, appeal to your Government not to destroy an efficient and successful public transport system such as Delhi Metro for electoral gains.”

Sreedharan had initially written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi objecting to the Delhi government’s decision. He had said, “One shareholder cannot take a unilateral decision to give concession to one section of the community and push Delhi Metro into inefficiency and bankruptcy.” Manish Sisodia had then expressed his ‘pain’ at the Metroman’s objection and penned a letter of his own.

The decision to offer free Metro rides to women had attracted great criticism from all quarters. Women had objected to the decision as well.

Yoga is rooted in Hindu spiritual traditions and so is Vande Mataram, disassociating them from Hinduism an insult to our ancestors

Over time, a certain narrative has gained momentum in the country. In an effort to increase the acceptability of Hindu traditions and practices among people from other communities, we have started forfeiting our claim to it. This recent phenomenon was most evident when the world celebrated the 5th International Yoga Day on the 21st of June this year.

The Communist Chief Minister of Kerala pontificated on how none of the Asanas performed on Yoga Day had anything to do with any religion.

However, Pinarayi Vijayan is not the only one who has made such comments. Numerous top tier leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party itself, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself, has made remarks to that effect. Such rhetoric may attract a few more practitioners from other faiths but it’s long term effects are quite deleterious.

According to Christianity, Hinduism is incompatible with the will of their monotheistic God. The same is the case with regards to Islam and Judaism. Therefore, even if we dilute our own practices to make it more attractive for them, we stand to gain absolutely nothing if we forfeit our claim to them.

As for the question of whether Yoga is secular, the answer most definitely is that it is not. Yoga is one of the Darsanas in Hinduism and the goal of it is the attainment of Moksha. Yoga is mentioned profusely in ancient Hindu texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Patanjali Yoga Sutras. The stated objective, too, was not merely health benefits but the upliftment of human consciousness itself.

There is little doubt as well that Yoga was developed as an intrinsic part of the fulfilment of Hindu spirituality. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali had as its basis the Samkhya school of thought, Tantric practices incorporated Yoga as well, Buddhism which grew out of Hinduism incorporated Yogic practices into their own brand of metaphysics. Jainism, another outgrowth of Hinduism, followed a similar path.

Therefore, to comprehend and appreciate Yoga in its entirety, it is necessary to understand the underlying metaphysics of the practices. Yoga is the manifestation of Hindu philosophy in the area of physical and mental well-being with the ultimate objective being the attainment of Moksha or a higher state of consciousness. Thus, under such circumstances, to claim that Yoga is secular is a blatant lie.

The willingness to forfeit our claim to our cultural heritage such as Yoga displays the lack of intellectual and moral fortitude on the part of Hindus. Every instance of the secularization of a core Hindu practice is a direct loss of the said practice from the rich cultural heritage of Hindus. If we forfeit our heritage to gain acceptability in the eyes of those who have little respect for our identity and traditions, we will only lose everything that we hold dear.

A similar claim is made with regards to ‘Vande Mataram’. It is secular, we are told and is merely a salutation to our Motherland. The reason for such vacuous assertions is only short term narrow-minded political gains and deprived of any manner of critical thought. The original poem clearly indicates that the nation is conceived of as a Goddess. The conception of the nation as a Divine Mother worthy of worship is akin to the conception of the Earth itself as Divine Mother in all polytheistic faiths.

The personification of higher abstract ideals and great natural and physical phenomena as the manifestation of Deities worthy of worship is a deeply polytheistic tradition. ‘Vande Mataram’ which conceptualizes our nation as a great Goddess is borne out of that pious polytheistic tradition itself. Therefore, to disassociate it from Hinduism is a grave insult to our ancestors who sacrificed their lives for our nation and suffered numerous atrocities as they fought for freedom with ‘Vande Mataram’ on their lips.

If Muslims or Christians do not wish to chant ‘Vande Mataram’ or practice Yoga, that is completely alright and we should just leave them alone. Because at the end of the day, they are our heritage and it is the duty of Hindus and Hindus alone to ensure that they are not lost to the vagaries of time. If someone does not wish to participate in the practice, we should leave them be. It is their loss, not ours.

If these pinnacles of achievement of Hindu Civilization is secularized, we will be that much poorer. And if we do ignore the underlying metaphysics of it, we do so at our own peril and inevitably they will be defiled. Is there anyone among Hindus who is not revolted at the thought of Beer Yoga and Vampire Yoga? Why this is so? It is only because deep down, we understand that Yoga is sacred and holy and is not meant to be defiled by such profanities.

There is a malicious agenda as well behind such rampant secularization of Hindu traditions. The larger objective of certain entities is to disassociate all Hindu accomplishments and achievements from Hinduism. So that they can carry on with their propaganda that Hinduism is only about caste atrocities and Sati. The weaker the association between Hinduism and Yoga, the easier it is for Christian missionaries to come up with corruptions such as ‘Christian Yoga’.

That Yoga and ‘Vande Mataram’ are intrinsically Hindu says a lot about polytheistic traditions as well. In polytheistic faiths, every aspect of human lives is deeply entrenched in the Divine. Charity is connected to spirituality, Marriage is sacred, Music and sports and Motherhood and Politics, everything is considered to be an extension and the manifestation of the Divine. It is completely antithetical to monotheistic creeds which clearly demarcate a distinction between religious and secular pursuits. In Hinduism, there is no such distinction. Every act of ours is conceptualized as something which has a deep connection with Divinity itself.

Thus, in an era of monotheistic dominance, we are called upon to hold on to our heritage and our traditions with great fortitude. It is time for us to understand and appreciate the Hindu philosophy that guides every aspect of our existence. We should not, and must not, surrender our traditions and our heritage to the false song of Secularism. If we do, our Civilization will be consigned to the dustbins of our History. Our Faith is a living one, it does not belong in a museum. If Yoga is disassociated from Hinduism, it will only be a hollow shell.

ABP Majha apologises for debate ‘Savarkar: A hero or villain’ after facing severe backlash and angry advertiser pulling out

Under severe criticism for airing a controversial debate on Veer Savarkar on his Birth Anniversary, the Marathi regional channel ABP Majha, owned and controlled by the ABP group has tendered its apology for hurting the public sentiments for the controversial title of their program- “Savarkar- A hero or a villain?” and the objectionable remarks made against Veer Savarkar in the program by the panellists.

ABP Majha has issued a clarification saying, “On the Birth Anniversary of Swantratya Veer Savarkar, a debate by the title- “Savarkar-a hero or a villain” was aired on ABP Majha which is receiving severe flak for the content of the debate as well as the title. Majha had no intention of hurting the sentiments of the people or disrespect Veer Savarkar. In fact, Majha had telecasted 2 shows on how inspiring Veer Savarkar’s life had been on the very same day. If the debate and the title had hurt sentiments of the viewers, we regret it and tender our apology.”

A few weeks back on May 28. 2019, on the event of the Birth Anniversary of Veer Savarkar, ABP Majha had telecast a debate with the title-“Savarkar-a hero or a villain?” following which it faced harsh opprobrium for maligning Veer Savarkar and his contribution to India’s freedom struggle.

One of their clients, Cotton King, who had long been associated with providing advertisements on ABP Majha has withdrawn all its advertisements from the channel and initiated an economic boycott of the channel in the light of the show telecasted on the channel disreputing Veer Savarkar and casting smear on his illustrious legacy.

Veer Savarkar, who served the draconian punishment of incarceration in the infamous Cellular Jail in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, for fighting against the British oppression, has often been disparaged and his contribution to the Freedom Struggle and in redeeming Hindutva philosophy routinely belittled by a hostile section of intellectuals and media personalities who couldn’t brook the recent Hindu resurgence that has taken country by storm.

From yoga in Siachen to Om Shanti chants in the UN: Some visuals of fifth International Yoga Day

Today is the 5th International Yoga Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the celebrations through a mega show in Prabhat Tara ground, Ranchi, Jharkhand. Modi performed Yoga along with around 30,000 other participants.

PM Modi encouraged all Indian missions across the world to celebrate this day with utmost zeal. A video message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been sent to all embassies for screening at the beginning of the yoga day celebrations.

Setting the stage for International Yoga Day, which is being celebrated on a global scale since 2015, PM Modi has been sharing an asana every day on social media urging people to join the movement.

The social media sites have been pouring with images as people all across the world have been sharing videos and pictures of performing Yoga.

With the first light in the dawn-lit mountains, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) troops celebrated Yoga Day with their darling dogs and horses. ITBP troops of ATS Lohitpur are one of the first in the country to set the ball rolling on International Yoga Day.

The importance of Yoga is being recognised not only by our Indian Armed forces but many people all across India are accepting and adopting the benefits of the physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India.

The UN headquarters had organised the Yoga Day on the ground outside, but due to rains, it was moved to the magnificent General Assembly hall inside. A brief video capturing the essence of the celebrations was shared by Indian Ambassador and permanent representative to the UN Syed Akbaruddin shared a video of the same on Twitter, where the UN General Assembly was seen reverberating with the chants of Om Shanti.

Yoga Day at UN

Few Yoga Gurus joined the officials and diplomats at the United Nations headquarters which was filled to capacity. Syed Akbaruddin also shared photos of the event, where Indian cultural dances were performed as part of the Yoga Day.

More than 80 people collected at the French Embassy to celebrate Yoga. More than 25 lakh people are fond of yoga in France which makes the country a European hub for yoga.

Yoga was also performed with equal zeal at the Embassy of the United States of America in Delhi:

Yoga is not only about discipline but it is all about fun! People on this Yoga day were seen dressed up as cartoon characters, celebrating International Yoga Day with PM Modi in Ranchi.

As our Prime Minister rightly said, yoga is one of the most powerful unifying forces in the world. Yoga is the oneness of the individual soul (jiva) with the Atma. A disciplined technique of controlling the body and the mind.

Last year too, this day was celebrated across India with equal enthusiasm. Then to Twitter had poured in with images of International Yoga Day celebrations which had then proved that the Indian Armed forces are not only unmatched in their valour and skills, but also in their style and ingenuity.
