Muzaffarpur sexual abuse case: CBI takes over the investigation, case registered against officers and employees

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now taken over the case of the alleged sexual exploitation of girls in Balika Grih, a children’s home in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The CBI has booked the officers and employees of the shelter home in connection with the sexual, physical and mental exploitation of 42 girls, who was staying in the shelter home.

Earlier, the investigating team led by Muzaffarpur IG Sunil Kumar and DIG Anil Kumar carried out the inspection with the forensic team where they have recovered some medical equipment and sedatives which are believed to be used in the crime. They even found a secret staircase inside the shelter home. As per reports, the forensic team have also recovered some bed sheets and clothes to conduct tests, which could reveal more information regarding sexual abuses against the girls. The shelter home run by Seva Sankalp Evam Vikash Samiti has also been accused of having carried out abortions of the girls who had gotten pregnant after being raped.

The shelter home was housing the girls between the ages of 7 to 17 and most of the girls were suffering from speech-impairment. It is reported that they were given sedatives in the dinner and raped during the night and the inmates have been brutally beaten regularly by the shelter home staff, including women and compelled the girls to have sex with the visitors.

This shocking incident came to light last month when the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) submitted a report, based on conversations with several girls at the home which was meant to be their shelter. Further medical examinations revealed that 34 out of the 42 girls were sexually harassed and raped in the shelter home. The police have now arrested 10 out of the 11 accused, including District Child Protection officer Ravi Kumar Roshan, Caretaker Brajesh Thakur and Child Welfare Committee member Vikas Kumar.

The state government had earlier recommended a CBI probe to investigate the case. Now, the CBI has registered the case against the NGO under the section 120(B), 376, 34 of IPC and section 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 of POCSO act.

‘Industrialists as much parts in India’s growth story as farmers’, PM Modi says ‘not scared’ to be seen with businessmen

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while attending the ground-breaking ceremony of several investment projects in Lucknow today addressed his “industrial friends” at the ceremony.

Amongst other things, the PM took a dig at the hypocrisy of the Opposition on being associated with the industrialists. Modi asserted that the industrialists are as important in India’s growth story as any of the Indian farmers, artisans, bankers, financiers, any government official is.

He said, “Last time we met during the UP Investors Summit in February. I am elated to see a huge step being taken to deliver the promises made there on the ground.” He added, “Investors are an important unit towards nation-building and their prosperity is linked to the dreams of millions of youngsters of the country.”

He, in his speech, damned the opposition by saying that there are many from the opposite side he knows of, who, though publically do not acknowledge any kind of association with these big industrialists, like to be boot-licked by them in private.

Narendra Modi indirectly taking a jibe at the opposition leaders, further reiterated that if a person has clean conscious and clear intentions, then he should not be scared of his association with any industrialist what so ever. To prove his point he went on to talk about Mahatma Gandhi, saying that since he had no malice in his heart, he never got embarrassed or shied away from being associated with the Birla family.

Modi expressed his anguish, that the opposition, because of a handful of wrong-doers, is trying to malign the entire community of businessmen by calling them thieves. He said that the law-breakers would be definitely punished but belittling the entire community because of a few handfuls is deplorable and the opposition should not play petty politics and defame the entire faction.

The ground-breaking ceremony in Lucknow took place for the 81 projects that came to Uttar Pradesh during an investment summit organized by the state government in February this year.

Eighty industrialists, including major firms such as Birla, Reliance, and Adani, attended the ceremony alongside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. On Saturday, Modi laid the foundation stones and inaugurated 99 urban development projects for Uttar Pradesh worth Rs 3,897 crore. He also gave away different awards on the occasion to mark three years of the government’s flagship programmes.

Mohammad Kaif calls out The Wire’s casteist report on cricketers who played for India

We have earlier written how more often than not the crusaders against caste discrimination are the ones who are actually busy being exclusive, elitist groups themselves. Recently, following the French Football team’s world cup victory, controversial journalist Rajdeep Sardesai, who has earlier shown his casteist side, took to Twitter to link French team’s victory to caste in Indian cricket.

Taking cue from Sardesai, Left-leaning website The Wire, which regularly indulges in willful and malicious lies, republished an edited article from Economic and Political Weekly from earlier this year which talked about lack of SC/ST representation in test cricket.

Cricket Mohammad Kaif, who has been earlier trolled by Muslim fundamentalists over the Internet for performing Surya Namaskar, took to Twitter to call out The Wire’s divisive journalism.

He questioned The Wire on how many SC/ST journalists or senior editors are there in the organisation. He said sport is one field which has successfully broken barriers of caste and players play with inclusiveness. He said that such kind of journalism spreads hatred.

TRAI chief crosses swords with ‘The Print’ for misquoting him on the Aadhaar privacy norms

Shekhar Gupta’s ‘The Print’ has almost mastered the art of distorting and concocting narratives to accommodate their agenda. Earlier too, been called out for romanticising treason and spinning sensational stories about the Chinese aggression in Doklam, today they are back at it yet again, rehashing their past.

Amidst the Aadhaar row, the outgoing TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) chief, R S Sharma, in his interview to ‘The Print’ had spoken about how Aadhaar doesn’t violate privacy norms. In the article, published on 28th July, Print misquoted the TRAI chairperson by apparently changing few words said by him, hence changing the entire meaning of the same. This, however, was updated later with a disclaimer regretting the error, but not before the TRAI chief called out The Print article in the comments.

Below is the screenshot of what ‘The Print’ had reported, misquoting the chief:

Which was later changed to:

This mistake was however unacceptable and irked the TRAI chairman, R.S Sharma, who came out to strongly condemn the comment which was attributed to him. He took to Twitter to reiterate that his interview was recorded and at no point during the entire interview did he ever mention the word ‘profiling’. Annoyed Sharma, went on to challenge the interviewer to place the entire recording on the public domain.

Comments by RS Sharma on The Print article

RS Sharma could be seen clarifying his stand on Aadhaar and asking the interviewer to put out the recording in public domain to prove he was misquoted by The Print journalist.

Yesterday, OpIndia had reported how the Trai chief had silenced the Aadhaar haters and made them come up with lame, laughable excuses that hold no ground. It all started when in the same article by ‘The Print’ he was quoted saying that the Aadhaar data is completely safe and all the reports suggesting the data is vulnerable are false. He had asserted that Aadhaar and IndiaStack, a digital interface that allows government and businesses to utilize digital infrastructure are remarkable innovations with no parallels in any country at present.

On this, one Twitter user tagged the TRAI chief and demanded that since he has ‘paid salaries’ to the TRAI chief all these years, he should share his personal data with him. Unexpectedly, RS Sharma responded to the tweet and immediately shared his Aadhaar number, challenging the Twitter user to come up with at least one concrete example of how they can do any harm to him. This came as a big blow to all the Aadhaar haters who, for all this while, have been spreading false rumours regarding the same.

Former Naxals threatened by Naxals and asked to leave village, to be rehabilitated by police

24 people from three families from a village in Chhattisgarh have reached out to police after Naxals threatened to either leave the village or face consequence.

The villagers said that they trust the police and hence have come to them. The police has registered a complaint against the Naxals for issuing death threats. The administration, through various policies and initiatives of the government, has managed to rehabilitate many former Naxals who surrender.

The police have registered the complaint against the Naxals for issuing death threats to villagers.

The police officer said that the villagers were fed up and tired of Naxalism and, therefore and they want to come out and fight against Naxals.

Kondagaon is considered to be one of the worst affected areas by Naxalism in the state of Chattisgarh. Recently, few Naxals had surrendered before the security forces, after security forces gunned down eight down eight Naxals in forests of Timinar and Pusnar during Anti-Naxal operation, along Dantewada-Bijapur border. The surrendered naxalites talking to the media said that they face a lot of problems in the Naxal camps.

The present government has been successful in bringing down the number of terror incidents in the country by following a multi pronged approach. The government has also backed up this with the massive financial outlay for developing the basic infrastructure like roads, railways, schools, electricity in the region.

The security forces are carrying a full scale operations against the Naxals in the states of Chattisgarh, Maharasthra and Jharkhand. Hundreds of left-wing terrorists have surrendered in the past few months and seeking to re-build their lives. The combination of the developmental projects and intense security operations in these areas, have resulted in shrinking down of naxals forces in the country.

India Today invents a lie by Postcard News in order to fact check it

A media house has done it yet again! India Today in myriad instances has managed to generate controversies and false narratives in various ways. This includes getting slammed by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for a “false and mischievous” report, for issuing a wrong corrigendum and even for writing a suggestive headline while sharing pictures of Shahrukh Khan’s daughter.

Today it seems India Today is trying to fetch yet another badge of honour for concocting false narratives. This time, inventing an innovative lie by twisting a Facebook post by Postcard English.

India Today published an article on 28th July, trying to ‘fact check’ Postcard News. India Today claimed that this photograph was used by Postcard to show how more athletes won medals during the Modi regime as compared to the Congress regime.

Following is a screengrab from the India Today article. India Today follows this picture by saying “The intent is to show that India won fewer medals at the Commonwealth Games held during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime than at the recent one held in Australia and praise the Modi Government as being more sports-friendly”.

Screengrab from the IndiaToday article

However, while Postcard did use the same image they definitely did not beget the angle India Today portrayed.

Postcard used the image to illustrate the body language and the respect the PM now and PM then is displaying towards the winners. In the first picture Manmohan Singh, the PM under UPA regime is sitting while the winners are standing and in the other picture the current PM, Narendra Modi is standing while the winners are seen sitting, trying to compare the demeanour exhibited by the former and current PM towards the achievers.

Post by PostCard taken from their Facebook profile

It is evident that India Today maliciously cropped the post by Post Card in order to ‘fact-check’ them. Essentially, India Today concocted a lie to attribute the lie to Postcard simply to fact check and malign the portal.

OpIndia reached out to Mahesh Hegde to understand why the mainstream media seem to be going after him and his portal. He said “IndiaToday has posted blatant lies about us. Their article amounts to defamation and not journalism. It is hilarious that in a bid to call us out for “fake news”, they have posted one themselves”.

In addition to the innumerable instances, where India Today has created predicaments for itself, Opindia had reported of Twitter users slamming India Today for sharing a video demeaning the use of saree. In yet another episode the India Today Journalist was asked to broadcast an apology for defamatory content during a show aired in 2010, and the list seems to just get longer.

At this point, one can only believe that if oddity occurs for the first time its a mistake, the second time by choice but if done repeatedly it becomes a pattern.

Samajwadi Party activists detained for disrupting Amit Shah’s convoy, have pending cases against them

Three Samajwadi Party activists, including two women, were detained by police for waving black flags and jumping in front of BJP President Amit Shah’s convoy in Allahabad on Saturday. In a video clip that has gone viral on social media, two activists could be seen jumping in front of the convoy waving black flags and shouting slogans.

The Samajwadi Party activists, Neha Yadav, Rama Yadav and Kishan Maurya are part of Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, the student’s wing of Samajwadi Party and studying at Allahabad University.

Samajwadi Party students wing leader Neha Yadav

Neha Yadav also has various cases registered against her. A case has been registered against Neha on 11th October 2017, under IPC section 395 (dacoity).

As per the copy of the FIR acquired from sources in police, one Kamre Alam, in Lanka, Varanasi, was transporting animals in his vehicle, when Neha, along with few men allegedly came in front of his vehicle and stopped it instructed the men to beat up Alam and his friend, who was also transporting animals in another van, for ‘transporting animals’. Following that, the men allegedly climbed the vehicles and beat up Alam and his friend. The FIR further states that Neha Yadav then asked the men to cough up Rs. 40,000 to release the vehicles. When Alam refused, they beat him up again. The goons then allegedly took away their mobile phones and cash on them and fled.

Similarly, other FIRs are also filed against Neha Yadav, copies of which are with OpIndia, under section 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).

Prashant Bhushan caught spreading lies, again

Politician and lawyer Prashant Bhushan, who is regularly caught spreading unverified and fake images on social media to score a political point, was again caught spreading lies about Mehul Choksi’s Antiguan citizenship.

Bhushan cites an article from left-leaning portal Scroll, which itself is caught spreading fake news and whitewashing crimes of barbaric Khilji, and states that PNB scam accused Mehul Choksi became Antiguan citizen after Prime Minister Modi met Antiguan President in April this year.

We had earlier reported that Choksi became Antiguan citizen in November, 2017, via Antigua’s investment program. In fact, Antigua’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne had claimed that it was extended to him when there was no Interpol’s red corner notice against him. He also claimed that there was no adverse information floating about regarding Choksi, when he applied for a citizenship.

Incidentally, the report Bhushan has cited also says that Choksi got the Antiguan citizenship in November last year.

Scroll article which states Choksi got Antiguan citizenship in November last year.

Bhushan claims that it was after Modi met Antiguan Prime Minister Gaston Browne in April, following which Choksi was granted Antiguan citizenship as ‘no adverse report’ was found on Choksi. Truth is, Choksi was already an Antiguan citizen, few months before the PNB scandal broke and he was named an accused in the multi-crore scam.

Makes one wonder why would a Supreme Court lawyer spread false information, deliberately.

TRAI chief discloses his Aadhaar number, challenges ‘hackers’ to show what harm can they do

RS Sharma, the chairman of the Telecom Regulatory authority of India has done something that has silenced Aadhar haters and made them come up with lame, laughable excuses that hold no ground. It began with an article in leftist propaganda website ‘The Print’ titled ‘What harm can you do to me if you have my Aadhar details, asks TRAI chairman RS Sharma’ published today.

In the article, RS Sharma was quoted saying the Aadhar data is completely safe and all the reports suggesting the data is vulnerable are false. He had asserted that Aadhar and IndiaStack, a digital interface that allows government and businesses to utilise digital infrastructure are remarkable innovations with no parallels in any country at present.

One Twitter user tagged the TRAI chief and demanded that since he has ‘paid salaries’ to the TRAI chief all these years, he should share his personal data with him.

He did not stop at that, tagging RS Sharma again in a follow-up tweet, the Twitter user then challenged the TRAI chairman to publish his Aadhar number if he has ‘so much trust in his 13 feet wall security system’.

Quite unexpectedly, RS Sharma responded to the tweet. He shared his Aadhar number and challenged the Twitter user to come up with at least one concrete example of how they can do any harm to him.

Quite unsurprisingly, none of them came up with any concrete way to misuse the Aadhar number and extract any personal information. One Twitter user claimed that he had managed to find RS Sharma’s mobile number attached to his Aadhar card. But it was soon debunked by a popular handle @AndColorPocket that the TRAI chairman’s mobile number is already available in public domain.

The ‘hacker’ then shared a tweet complaining to ‘lawyers and journalists’ on how could he proceed with the available information provided by the TRAI chief.

He also put out some easily available information and tried to pass it off as the information he gathered by using the TRAI chief’s Aadhaar details. The ‘hacker’ was called out by Netizens. The Twitter user @EtPrayLove in a Twitter thread explained how all the information was easily available.

The ‘hacker’ had claimed that no bank account number was linked to the phone number. That was also debunked since someone sent money to the Aadhaar pay account of the TRAI chief’s number and that wouldn’t be possible if a bank account wasn’t attached to the number.

The user also explained how PAN could be found out without using Aadhaar details and how the frequent flyer number was in all probability fraudulently obtained.

RS Sharma’s tweet sharing his Aadhar number has generated quite a buzz but till now none of the naysayers has been able to come up with a credible proof on how his data can be misused. It is notable here that recently, the government had declared that Aadhar based direct benefit transfers have saved the exchequer a total of Rs 90,000 crores so far.

Kerala police arrests Noorudeen Sheikh for directing a vicious campaign against a student on social media

The Kerala police on Saturday took into custody a Muslim person named, Noorudeen Sheikh from Wayanad, alleged to be the key tormentor, for launching a cyber attack on a 19-year-old, college girl Hanan Hamid, who sold fish at Thammanam near Kochi after her class hours to support her mentally-ill mother and brother.

Hanan had grabbed a lot of attention on the internet after she was featured in a newspaper, the Malayalam daily- Manorama, as a student who sold fish after college hours. Soon after some people on Facebook started targetting her with vicious abuse baselessly alleging that she was only putting up an act. The Union Minister for Tourism Alphons Joseph Kannanthanam stepped forward to extend his support, condemning the abuse.

However, it was after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s Facebook post supporting Hamid on Friday that the police registered a case against the cyber bullies.

Noorudeen Sheikh, the man who did a Facebook live claiming Hanan was a fraud, is being questioned and an FIR has been registered against him, a police officer said. He has been booked under various sections of the IT Act, besides provisions attracting non-bailable offences.

Sheikh who was the first to take selfies with Hamid when he came to know of her struggles, later went hammer and tongs against her and posted the pictures questioning her condition, after she was also seen in a few pictures with superstar Mohanlal. Soon Sheikh’s post went viral and Hamid was slammed as “a fake and doing all she did only to impress superstar Mohanlal in order to land a role with his son Pranav Mohanlal in an upcoming film.”

A happy Hanan who dreams of pursuing MBBS only resorting to these odd jobs to take care of her mentally ill mother and brother, on hearing about the arrest said, “Now, I have realised that with the support I am getting from the government and my college, I have got so many guardians.”

Bullying, it seems, is no longer restricted to the pervasive schools, colleges, playgrounds or parks. This global menace has spread its tentacles over to the big, wide world of technology making it more dangerous than before. Cyber-bullying, as it is known, can occur anytime, anywhere and be targetting almost everyone.
