Bengaluru court orders FIR against Udhayanidhi Stalin and 3 others over ‘Eradicate Sanatana’ comments, issues summons

A Bengaluru court has ordered registration of a criminal case against Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and three others over the infamous ‘eradicate Sanatan’ comments. Special (Magistrate) Court Judge J Preeth of the Bangalore Metropolitan Magistrate’s issued the order on Friday to lodge the case for insulting Sanatana Dharma at the “Eradicate Sanatan Conference” held in Chennai on 2 September 2023.

Apart from the DMK leader, others to be booked in the case are Tamil writer S Venkatesh, Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association State President Madhukar Ramalingam and Association Secretary Adavan Dichanya. The court has directed the police to register a case against the four under Sections 153 (provocation to cause riot), 298 (hurting religious sentiments) and 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The court also ordered to issue summons to the accused persons. Judge J Preeth is the special judge for trial of cases against former and current MPs/MLAs.

The order was passed on the basis of a private complaint filed with the court. The complainant stated in the complaint that he belongs to the Scheduled Tribe community and follows Sanathana Dharma. He added that the derogatory statement made by Udhayanidhi Stalin has defamed him, his religion and the people belonging to the Hindu faith.

The matter will be heard next on March 4.

It notable that the event was organised by amil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association, where  DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and a minister in the government, spewed venom against Hindus and called for eradication of Sanatan Dharma. He had said, “Just like dengue, mosquitoes, malaria, or coronavirus need to be eradicated, we have to eradicate Sanatana,” sparking nationwide outrage.

Earlier an FIR was filed in Mumbai against Udhayanidhi Stalin over his comments. Petitions against him have been fled at the Supreme Court also.

Delhi Police Crime Branch visits Arvind Kejriwal’s residence, serves notice over his claims of BJP poaching AAP MLAs

On Saturday (February 3), a team from the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch unit arrived at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s home to hand over a notice in connection with his allegations that the BJP was attempting to poach Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs. The team visited Kejriwal’s residence on Saturday as the notice could be given only to the person in whose name it has been issued, sources said.

Earlier yesterday too, a team of Crime Branch had visited Kejriwal’s residence in connection with the case.

The Chief Minister’s Office, however, claimed that the crime branch team led by the ACP returned without handing the notice. Reports say that the crime branch officials visited CM Kejriwal as well as Minister Atishi’s residence to serve both a notice asking them to furnish any evidence about their poaching claims. However, it is reported that both were not present at their respective residences.

The Crime Branch’s move came after a BJP delegation met with the Commissioner of Police on January 30 and asked for an investigation into Kejriwal’s accusations that the BJP is luring AAP MLAs.

On January 27, Kejriwal accused the BJP of poaching in an attempt to destabilise the AAP government in Delhi. Kejriwal said that the BJP called seven AAP MLAs and offered them Rs 25 crore each for switching sides. Kejriwal further said that the BJP informed AAP MLAs that he would be arrested soon.

Taking to X, CM Kejriwal wrote on January 27, “Recently he has contacted our 7 MLAs of Delhi and said – “We will arrest Kejriwal after a few days. After that, we will break the MLAs. Talks have been held with 21 MLAs. Talking to others also. After that, we will topple the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi. you can also come. Will give Rs 25 crore and contest the elections on BJP ticket.” Although he claims that he has contacted 21 MLAs but as per our information he has contacted only 7 MLAs so far and all of them refused. This means that I am not being arrested to investigate any liquor scam but they are conspiring to topple the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi. In the last nine years, they hatched many conspiracies to topple our government. But they did not get any success. God and the people always supported us. All our MLAs are also strongly together.”

“This time also these people will fail in their nefarious intentions. These people know how much work our government has done for the people of Delhi. Despite all the obstacles created by them, we have accomplished so much. The people of Delhi love “AAP” immensely. Therefore, it is not in their power to defeat AAP in the elections. So they want to topple the government by arresting them on the pretext of a fake liquor scam,” the Delhi CM continued.

AAP leader Atishi claimed to have an audio clip of an “unknown” BJP leader telling an AAP MLA about the “likely arrest of Kejriwal and MLA-poaching plans.”The audio clip will be made public in a few days. The BJP leader is heard saying that Kejriwal is going to be arrested and that they would topple the AAP government following his arrest,” Atishi said.

Subsequently, a team led by BJP leader Virendra Sachdeva, met with Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to request an investigation into the chief minister’s allegations.

On the crime branch’s notice to CM Arvind Kejriwal over his claim of ‘poaching of MLAs by BJP’, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said, “We had condemned that fake allegation by Arvind Kejriwal and registered a complaint. I am happy if the Police have given him notice. Now, Kejriwal has to speak on his allegation, who are those MLAs who were approached and who spoke to them…”

Dramatic scenes unfolded on 2nd February at Patna High Court as an attorney named Shiva Pujan Jha attempted to leap from the court building after his motion for a stay of the proceedings was turned down. He is accused of cruelty against his spouse under section 498A of the Indian Penal Code. The section addresses matters where a married woman’s husband or his family members harass or abuse her.

The lawyer tried to obtain relief by filing a petition, but the court denied it and also imposed a penalty. As a result, he tried to jump from the court building. However, the court personnel intervened swiftly to prevent a catastrophic outcome. He suffered minor wounds after falling on a balcony shed. There was quite a commotion in the courtroom due to the drastic action.

The lawyer’s wife filed the initial lawsuit against him alleging that he had harassed and mistreated her. This is a severe accusation with substantial legal ramifications. He submitted a quashing request at the Patna High Court in hopes of clearing his name and obtaining relief from these accusations. The single-judge bench of Justice Satyavrat Verma, however, did not accept his petition. His grief was exacerbated by the court’s imposition of a hefty penalty on top of the rejection of his application.

The advocate didn’t want to accept the one-time settlement of Rs two and a half lakh mandated by the court after which he took the extreme measure. Many in attendance recorded a video that has already gone viral on social media. The lawyer can be heard asking, “Why are you threatening me? Make any decision you want,” in the footage.

In the video, people can be seen requesting him to get down and not jump. Some people also offered him a rope to help him get off. They also appealed to him not to defame the High Court. However, he still jumped but fell on the shed of the entrance. From there he was later rescued.

One of the most respected statesmen of our times, his contribution to the development of India is monumental. On Friday (February 1), an outrageous incident took place at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) when a play was performed at the varsity mocking Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. The play titled ‘Jab We Met’ was staged as a part of a competition at Lalit Kala Kendra.

The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists took strong objection to the depiction of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita in a poor light in the said act. ABVP activists stopped the play and a heated argument ensued. Two students have reportedly suffered injuries in the altercation on Friday, February 2.

The ABVP members, while raising objection to the mockery of Ramayana and Bhagwan Ram and Mata Sita, emphasised that Ramayana is not mythology but history.

In the outrageous video, the student playing Mata Sita was shown smoking a cigarette. The theme of the play is reported to be the rehearsal journey of actors involved in Ramlila.

Taking to X, ABVP Pune shared a video of the offensive play and wrote, “Prabhu Shriram and Sita Mata were portrayed as clowns in the dramas presented by the department of Fine Arts Center of Savitribai Phule Pune University.”

“The activists of ABVP Pune Mahanagar stopped this offensive play. ABVP Pune has taken a stand that such language about Hindu deities will not be tolerated and action should be taken against the culprits concerned,” the student organisation added.

Speaking about the matter, Suresh Bhosale from the SPPU security department said, “We were not given any prior intimation about the program and came to know about it after the incident.”

Meanwhile, both the parties involved in the matter have filed cross-complaints at the Chatuhshrungi police station. The police have been recording the statements of both the groups involved in the matter. The police said that after a verification an FIR might lodged against the organisers of the play hurting Hindu religious sentiments.

Gujarat: FIR registered against Mufti Salman Azhari for his “Aaj kutton ka waqt hai, Hamara daur ayega” hate speech in Junagadh

On Saturday (February 3), Junagadh Police said that Mufti Salman Azhari and two organisers have been booked for making inflammatory remarks at a recent event in the city. The police have registered a suo motu FIR in the matter at the Junagadh B Division Police Station. The action comes after a video of Azhari went viral on social media.

On January 31, accused Mufti Salman Azhari gave a venomous speech during a program attended by a large number of Muslims on the grounds of Narayan Vidya Mandir near the Junagadh court.

Organisers of the event, Muhammad Yusuf Malek, Azim Habib Odedara, and Mufti Salman Azhari, have been named as the accused in the FIR. A case has been filed against the trio under Sections 153(C), 505(2), 188, and 114 of the IPC. The FIR now includes sections for incendiary and provocative speech in the program and a breach of the declaration by extending the program after the time limit had passed. An investigation is now underway into this matter.

In the 22-second viral video, the Mufti can be heard saying, “Abhi to karbala ka akhiri maidan baqi hai…Kuch der ki khamoshi hai, fir shore ayega… Aaj kutton ka wakt hai, kal hamara daur ayega.” (The final battle of Karbala is yet to come… a moment of silence, then there will be noise again. Today is the time of the dogs, tomorrow will be our time).” After saying this, he chants, “Labbaik Ya Rasulullah” and the crowd in front repeats it.

As reported earlier, in his speech Azhari spoke about the history of Junagadh and said that the people of Junagadh did not fall into the hands of anyone. “It took several attempts to get them inside. Just as you did not soon come to anyone’s hands, I want you today not to wear someone else’s belt around your neck, we only have the servitude of Tajdar-e-Madinah…,” he said. Then Azhari and the crowd start chanting the slogan ‘Ghulam Hai Ghulam Hai, Rasool Ke Ghulam Hai’.

On Friday (2nd February), Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee took potshots at the Congress party for its inability to win 40 seats on its own in the Lok Sabha and aspiring for a large seat-sharing arrangement in West Bengal.

“We had told the Congress party to fight 300 seats alone and give the remaining 243 seats to other regional parties to contest wherever they are strong. We had asked the Congress party not to be over-smart,” she was heard saying

Mamata Banerjee added, “But they first came for Bengal. Like the BJP is appeasing Hindus, the Congress is trying to appease Muslims in Bengal. We are being sidelined despite being representative of all communities.”

“This cannot happen! Listen, I still dare to say this: If anyone can take on the BJP, then it is the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bengal. Only we can make all regional parties stand together on one stage. Congress cannot do it alone,” she further emphasised.

The Trinamool Congress supremo continued, “We do not even know whether Congress will win 40 seats (in the Lok Sabha). Do you have too much pride? I had promised to give you 2 seats (in Bengal). I had assured to make you win in those constituencies.”

“But you said that 2 seats are not enough. Do you want us to give you all 42 seats in Bengal? Rejected. Since then, we have no relation or talks with the Congress.”

“They call us part of I.N.D.I. Alliance but did not bother to inform about their programmes in Bengal. None from the Congress party informed me. I got to know this from the local administration.”

“If you have the courage, they defeat the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, Allahabad, Benaras, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh,” she concluded.

The Background of the Controversy

Last month, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury hit out at Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and called her an ‘opportunist.’

The development came following media reports that the TMC was planning to avoid seat-sharing with Congress and field candidates in all Lok Sabha constituencies.

He said, “We won’t fight the election with Mamata’s help. Congress knows how to fight on its own strength, and Mamata Banerjee should remember that it was with Congress’s support she came to power in Bengal.”

Reportedly, TMC had offered only 2 seats to the grand old party while it was hoping for a larger share of seats. Later, Congress scion Rahul Gandhi publicly snubbed Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury for claiming that Congress would fight elections in West Bengal without the assistance of the Trinamool Congress.

While speaking about the matter during his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, Gandhi remarked, “Mamata Banerjee is very close to me. Sometimes our leaders say something. Such comments won’t matter.”

He added that talks with the Trinamool Congress on seat-sharing in West Bengal for the 2024 Lok Sabha election were underway although Mamta Banerjee has clearly denied such assertions in her latest speech.

3,000 terrorists captured outside of Gaza since the start of the war: IDF

The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) reported that about 3,000 wanted persons suspected of terrorist activities have been arrested by forces of its Central Command since the beginning of the war in Gaza. The Central Command is responsible for the areas of Judea and Samaria, among other things, so the 3,000 were captured outside of the Gaza Strip.

In the latest operation to capture terrorists, which lasted for more than 16 hours, hundreds of IDF reservists and special forces soldiers overnight completed a counter-terrorism operation in the village of Hussan in the Etzion Brigade, located to the south of Jerusalem by Bethlehem.

The forces arrested 13 wanted persons, interrogated dozens of other suspects and confiscated incendiary materials of terrorist organizations.

In addition, overnight, in another operation south of Jerusalem, fighters located and confiscated means for preparing explosives.

Two additional wanted persons were arrested in Kfar Jamal north of Jerusalem and in Marj Na’je located in Israel north of the Kineret (Sea of Galilee).

No casualties were reported to Israeli forces.

UPI formally launched in France at Republic Day Reception at the Eiffel Tower in Paris

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has been formally launched at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Indian Embassy in France said on Friday and termed it as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “vision of taking UPI global.” The UPI was formally launched at the Republic Day reception held in France.

In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in France stated, “UPI formally launched at the iconic Eiffel Tower at the huge Republic Day Reception. Implementing PM @narendramodi’s announcement & the vision of taking UPI global.”

The UPI is India’s mobile-based payment system and allows people to make round-the-clock payments through a virtual payment address created by the customer. UPI is a system that powers multiple bank accounts into a single mobile application (of any participating bank), merging several banking features, seamless fund routing and merchant payments into one hood.

In 2023, India and France committed to nurturing a thriving ecosystem and building collaborations that empower their citizens and ensure their full participation in the digital century, according to the India-France joint statement. NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and France’s Lyra Collect executed an agreement to implement the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) in France and Europe.

During his visit to France in July last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India and France have agreed to use the UPI payment mechanism and it will begin from the iconic Eiffel Tower. PM Modi said that Indian tourists in France will now be able to make payments in rupees.

While addressing the Indian community at La Seine Musicale in Paris on July 14, PM Modi said, “Be it India’s UPI or other digital platforms, they have brought a huge social transformation in the country and I am happy that India and France are also working together in direction. India and France have agreed to use UPI in France. I will leave after the agreement. However, it is your job to move forward. Friends, in the coming days its beginning will be made from Eiffel Tower which means that Indian tourists will now be able to make payments in Rupees, through UPI, at Eiffel Tower.”

Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron visited India to attend the Republic Day Parade as as Chief Guest. During his visit, Macron and Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a tea stall and interacted with each other over a cup of tea in Jaipur. Macron used UPI to make a payment there. Earlier, PM Modi explained the UPI digital payments system to Macron as the two leaders visited a local shop during their visit to Hawa Mahal in Jaipur.
