Maharashtra: Senior bureaucrat’s son accused of beating up girlfriend and mowing her down with SUV, case registered

0

On Monday (December 11), a man named Ashwajit Gaikwad allegedly mowed down his girlfriend under his SUV in Thane, Maharashtra. Victim Priya Singh was seriously injured after he allegedly crashed his Land Rover Defender into her on Ovala Road in Thane’s Ghodbunder area. The accused is the son of Anil Gaikwad, the Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. According to the victim, she and the accused were in a relationship for four and a half years.

Taking to her Instagram account, the victim, who is currently hospitalised, shared her pictures after sustaining multiple injuries and also posted a note revealing the details of the incident. The victim said that on early Monday morning, her boyfriend Ashwajit called her to meet him while he was at a function along with his friends. Priya went to meet the accused who she claims was behaving strangely. The victim said that she tried to talk to him in private, however, Ashwajit’s friend Romil Patil did not let them talk. The situation escalated into a heated argument, the victim claimed, and Ashwajit, along with his friends, began hurling verbal abuses at the victim. When Priya asked her boyfriend to defend her, he allegedly slapped and tried to strangulate her.

“My boyfriend slapped me, tried to strangle my neck. I tried to push him away he bit my hand, beat me, pulled by hair and his friend out of nowhere pushed me to the ground,” Priya wrote.

Meanwhile, Ashwajit’s friends Romil Patil, Prasad Patil, and Sagar Shelke also joined him in attacking the victim. As the situation started getting worse, she headed to retrieve her bag and phone from the SUV, but the perpetrators allegedly attempted to cause her serious harm by first driving the SUV into her back near a divider, then returning and driving it over her right leg before speeding away.

“While they got into the car and started moving, I realised that my phone and purse was in the car. As soon as I reached the door of the Range Rover, I heard him (Ashwajit Gaikwad) say ‘uda de isko’ (ram into her) to his driver Sagar. He sped up immediately and I fell to the ground as I was hit by the left side of the car, after which he drove the rear left wheel over my right leg.”

The bone below her right knee got fractured from the impact and required surgical intervention. Gaikwad’s driver Sagar also threatened her not to complain about the incident while taking her to the hospital saying that “Chichi Bhai” [Ashwajit Gaikwad] comes from a well-connected and influential family, the victim wrote.

In her post, Singh has tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Smriti Irani, Shiv Sena-UBT leader Aditya Thackeray, and other political leaders.

Meanwhile, the Kasarvadavali police have lodged a case against Ashwajit, Shelke, Romil and Prasad Patil based on victim Priya Singh’s complaint, however no arrests have been made so far. The victim has alleged that police are not making arrests in the matter since the accused persons have links with influential people. Meanwhile, the victim’s post has gone viral on social media. The accused were booked under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 279 (rash driving on a public way) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.

In a stirring tribute on Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted the brave heroes of the 1971 war, whose sacrifices led to a decisive victory for India. Their unwavering spirit and dedication, he said, are etched in the nation’s history and the hearts of its people.

“Today, on Vijay Diwas, we pay heartfelt tributes to all the brave heroes who dutifully served India in 1971, ensuring a decisive victory. Their valour and dedication remain a source of immense pride for the nation. Their sacrifices and unwavering spirit will forever be etched in the people’s hearts and our nation’s history. India salutes their courage and remembers their indomitable spirit,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a post on ‘X’.

Meanwhile in a post on ‘X’ the Indian Army said, “December 16 marks the Historic Victory of Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan in the India Pakistan War of 1971. On this day, let us salute the courage & fortitude displayed by the Indian Armed Forces.”

Vijay Diwas is celebrated on December 16 to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war. December 16, 1971, was the day when Pakistan signed the instrument of surrender in Dhaka, following a 13-day India-Pakistan War. With the surrender of over 93,000 soldiers, the Pakistan Army’s capitulation against Indian forces was complete.

Following this decisive victory, India announced itself as a major regional force.Pakistan and the creation of Bangladesh was a devastating event for West Pakistan, the aftershocks of which continue to this day.

Along with the physical fall of Dacca, Pakistan was also defeated psychologically. The two-nation theory, that Muslims of the subcontinent formed a nation, was demolished.

Pakistan is still searching for a rationale for the dismemberment. For India, this battle is considered a historical occurrence. Because of this, December 16 is commemorated nationwide as “Vijay Diwas” to honour India’s triumph over Pakistan.

According to reports, 3,900 Indian soldiers are believed to have died and 9,851 have been injured during the Battle of 1971.

Ukraine: Official detonates three hand grenades during meeting of a village council, 26 injured

On Friday (15th December) a local deputy of a village council in Ukraine brought hand grenades with him while coming to a meeting of the council. During the meeting, he detonated these grenades leaving at least 26 injured. The incident took place at the headquarters of the village council of Keretsky in Ukraine’s western Zakarpattia region.

According to reports, the grenades were detonated when the council was right in the middle of the meeting and the accused local deputy had just entered the room where the people present in the council were engaged in a discussion. A video of the incident has also gone viral on social media.

As seen in this video, a man dressed in black entered the room. He then casually pulled three hand grenades out of his pocket, unpinned the grenades and dropped them on the floor only to cause a series of explosions. The room went dark as it was filled with smoke. Those present in the meeting could be heard screaming.

The man executing this grenade attack is identified as Serhii Batryn. He is a council member who belongs to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Servant of the People party

Madhya Pradesh: Houses of three Congress MLA Arif Masood’s supporters accused in an attack on BJP worker bulldozed

0

Houses of three individuals were demolished by the government of Madhya Pradesh one day after Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mohan Yadav took office as chief minister on 13th December. They were accused of attacking Devendra Singh Thakur, the Mandal General Secretary of the party’s Jhuggi Jhopri Cell after an argument over the recently concluded poll results which witnessed a massive victory for the saffron party.

Supporters of Congress MLA Arif Masood targeted the BJP man with swords and other sharp-edged weapons near the Habibganj police station on 5th December. Swords and other sharp weapons were wielded by the attackers during the assault. He suffered injuries to his back, stomach and middle section of his right palm which was slashed more than half. His allies intervened swiftly to drive the perpetrators away and he was immediately taken to a local hospital for treatment.

22-year-old Farukh Raine, his 29-year-old brother Shahrukh Raine, 24-year-old Sameer, alias Billu Raine along with two aides 42-year-old Aslam and 28-year-old Bilal Khan were identified by the police as the accused who are facing charges of attempted murder. The complaint asserted that one of the accused grabbed hold of the victim while another swung a blade at his head. The offenders beat Swapnil Bankhede a 26-year-old local and left the scene when he attempted to save him.

Farukh alias Minni, Rehan and Vicky who is a history-sheeter severed the hand of the BJP member with a sharp object. He is facing 15 previous crimes, including murder and attempted murder and is viewed as the main suspect in the attack. The Bhopal collector has suggested NSA action against him again following the four preventive actions that the police took against him between 2016 and 2022.

Manish Raj Singh Bhadoriya, the in-charge of Habibganj police station stated, “We demolished the homes of the three men accused in the case after violations were found. The men got into a violent confrontation after they taunted each other over the election results. Farukh has a criminal record and charges under the NSA (National Security Act) have been slapped against him.”

According to Station House Officer Habibganj Manishraj Bhadouria, the crew went to Sai Baba Nagar and Janta Colony in Habibganj and destroyed the three houses that belonged to the perpetrators and were built illegally. The three dwellings, each with one room, were reduced to rubble.

The chief minister issued an order on the first day of his administration that forbade DJs or loudspeakers at religious events and public spaces from going over noise limitations. Furthermore, he declared the commencement of an “intensive campaign” to stop the “illegal buying and selling of meat, fish, etc.” Government officials demolished about ten illicit butcher shops on 14th December.

Additional Commissioner of Ujjain Municipal Corporation remarked, “According to the order, without permission, meat and fish cannot be sold. Action has been taken in the Nagjhar area against 10 shops that were selling meat in the open. Some shops that were near the streets have been damaged. Teams are also working in other sectors.”

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan moves out of the Bachchan home over rift with in-laws, has not spoken with Jaya Bachchan for years: Report

The Bachchan family is making headlines once more, but this time for all the wrong reasons. There have been long-running allegations that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan are at odds, therefore, she reportedly moved out of the family residence and into her mother’s house. Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan had been struggling with the issues for years and now things have come to a crucial point.

A source close to the family cited by Times Now divulged, “It is for their child that Abhishek and Aishwarya are still together. They have been having problems for years. Now matters have come to a head.” Aishwarya now splits her time between her mother and in-laws’ house where she and her husband remain in a completely separate and isolated section from other members of the family.

According to numerous sources, she and her mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan have not spoken to each other in a few years and won’t even acknowledge each other’s existence. Abhishek finds himself entangled in the conflict between his obligations to his wife and children and his parents. The already tumultuous relationship has worsened since Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter Shweta Nanda moved in permanently into Jalsa.

Divorce doesn’t appear to be an option anytime soon, though. This is because prominent parties are involved and cannot afford to be associated with a scandal. Allegations that megastar Amitabh Bachchan unfollowed his daughter-in-law on Instagram sparked a lot of attention on the Internet earlier this month. This sparked a lot of conversation on social media where users shared strange theories regarding the rivalry between the Bachchan family.

The claims of a family feud intensified after Amitabh Bachchan celebrated his eighty years old. Shweta posted a picture of her parents and their grandchildren Aaradhya Bachchan, Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya Nanda with the comment, “May you always be surrounded by love,” on her official Instagram account.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan shared the same photo on social media but with a slight variation. She cut out Jaya Bachchan, Navya Naveli and Agastya Nanda and left just her father-in-law and daughter in the spotlight with the caption, “Always, God Bless.”

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan tied the knot in 2007 after a whirlwind relationship and had their only child Aaradhya in 2011. The two actors have worked in movies like Guru, Raavan, Dhoom 2 and Umrao Jaan among others.

Stray dog attack is municipality’s fault: Odisha HC asks Puri civic body to pay Rs 10 lakhs to the family of 4-year-old who was mauled to death

0

In a significant ruling, the Orissa High Court mandated that Puri Municipality compensate the family of a young person who passed away from a dog bite by Rs 10 lakh.

The order was issued by the High Court during the hearing of a petition related to a 2016 Puri case in which a four-year-old child was mauled by a pack of stray dogs.

“The Municipality had submitted an affidavit saying there is no provision in the Municipality Act to provide compensation to the victim’s family. However, the Court anyway ruled that the Municipality should pay Rs 10 lakh compensation to the family of the deceased child,” Rajkishore Swain, the counsel of the petitioner said.

“The court took cognizance of the Municipality Act and Animal Birth Control Act under which there are provisions to take action against the civic bodies if they falter in controlling stray animals in the cities,” Swain added.

“I had filed a PIL in the Orissa High Court after four stray dogs mauled the child to death. I wanted the government to compensate the family of the child for their loss,” the petitioner said.

It is important to note that stray dogs in the state are becoming a bigger threat to children.

Not only did the Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC) in Cuttack report an increasing number of stray dog bite incidents, but the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) also took notice of these incidents on its own.

In May of this year, the commission sent notices about the matter to the City Municipal Corporation, the hospital administration in the state of Odisha, and the state government. The NHRC said these incidents, if true, are a violation of the patients’ human rights.

‘Need preachers who stand up for our values’: Germany to stop accepting imams from Turkey, to train its own Muslim clerics

To promote integration, Germany plans to train its Muslim clerics and is scheduled to phase out a training program that places Turkish imams in the country’s mosques. The decision was pronounced by the Interior Ministry on 14th December. A deal for the gradual dismissal of foreign imams has been reached with the Turkish-Islamic umbrella organization DITIB. The goal is to replace the existing imams in Germany by training 100 each year. The approximately thousand clerics who were trained and hired by the Turkish Diyanet will progressively be replaced by them.

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated in a statement, “We need religious leaders who speak our language, know our country and stand up for our values. We want imams to get involved in the dialogue between religions and discuss questions of faith in our society. This is an important milestone for the integration and participation of Muslim communities.”

The German Islam Conference (DIK) estimates that 5.5 million Muslims or around 6.6% of the country’s total population consider Germany their home. About 2,500 mosque communities exist in Germany and DITIB is in charge of 900 of them. The largest Islamic group in Germany, DITIB is a branch of the Presidency of Religious Affairs in Ankara, although it has been charged with serving as an extension of the Turkish government.

The most recent DITIB scandal arose last month when an Afghan Taliban member gave a speech at one of the group’s mosques in the western city of Cologne. Following claims that imams sent by Diyanet had spied on behalf of Ankara in the wake of the attempted coup against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s regime, German officials called on DITIB to implement major reforms in 2017. Diyanet refuted any involvement and no charges were filed after the investigation was concluded.

In her 2018 speech to the parliament, former chancellor Angela Merkel stated that the training of imams on German territory “will make us more independent and is necessary for the future.” According to the ministry, the 100 imams who will be trained annually in Germany will be trained both through an additional program and as part of the current DITIB program. It claimed to be pursuing “cooperation with the German College of Islam” in Osnabrück to achieve this.

Osnabrueck, in northern Germany, is host to the Islamic College Germany, also known as Islamkolleg Deutschland. It was established in 2019 by Muslim community associations, scholars and theologians to give imams and religious personnel who speak German-speaking communities theological and practical training. The German government reportedly wishes to support courses that teach religious education and the German language to aspiring imams. Other courses that will be promoted include history, political science and German values.

More than 60 years ago, Turkish immigrants began to arrive in substantial numbers as West Germany began hiring “guest workers” from Turkey and other countries to support the nation’s economic development. The majority of the young males worked in the car sector, steel industry and coal mining. Large immigrant populations could be seen in Berlin and other western and southern German cities because many of the people who had originally arrived as temporary labourers chose to stay and bring their families.

The new imam training agreement was reached over prolonged negotiations with the Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs or Diyanet, and the union of Turkish-Islamic cultural organizations in Germany also known as DITIB in Turkish.

Karnataka: Congress MLA proposes to rename Mysuru Airport after Tipu Sultan, draws sharp criticism from BJP

0

The proposal of renaming the Mysuru airport after Tipu Sultan, a Muslim ruler, by Congress MLA Prasad Abbayya has drawn sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs in the Karnataka Assembly.

Abbayya who is MLA from Hubballi-Dharwad (East) came up with the proposal during a discussion about the state government writing to the Centre to change the names of airports.

Abbayya said, “I propose renaming Mysuru Airport to Tipu Sultan Airport.”

This left BJP MLAs angered and they stood up to protest and objected to the decision, triggering heated arguments between both sides.

However, the Karnataka Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution recommending the union government to name four airports after prominent personalities.

According to the resolution, the Hubballi Airport will be named after Kranti Veera Sangolli Rayanna, Belagavi Airport after Kittur Rani Chennamma, Shivamogga Airport after Rashtrakavi Dr KV Puttappa (Kuvempu) and Vjiayapura airport after Sri Jagadjyoti Basaveshwara.

Infrastructure Development Minister MB Patil said the new names for the airports will be recommended to the union government for approval.

Earlier, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah spoke at an event on October 13 when he said that Kittur Rani Channamma and Tipu Sultan are inspirations to fight for self-respect.

“Kittur Rani Channamma and Tipu Sultan are inspirations to fight for self-respect. Kittur Channamma was a fierce queen who challenged the huge British army with her small army. Kittur Utsava and Jayantsova were started during my first term as Chief Minister, to introduce her courage and ideals to the youth and today’s generation,” the CM said.

Tipu Sultan has been a polarising figure in Karnataka, when he was Chief Minister in 2016 Siddarmiah decided to celebrate Tipu Sultan’s birthday as “Tipu Jayanti” on November 10.

This decision was scrapped after the BJP came to power in the state in 2019.

‘SRK is a murtad. He is a kafir’: Islamists attack actor Shah Rukh Khan over his visit to Shirdi Sai Temple

Actor Shah Rukh Khan and his family became the latest victims of Islamist wrath after a raft of Muslim fundamentalists targeted them for visiting the famous Sai Baba Temple in Shirdi.

Earlier this week, Jawan actor Shah Rukh Khan visited the Shirdi temple with his daughter Suhana Khan and offered prayers ahead of his upcoming theatrical release, Dunki. News agency ANI shared the video of the father-daughter duo entering the temple premises and later offering prayers inside the temple.

However, no sooner did visuals of SRK and his daughter paying their respects at the Shirdi Sai Temple appear on social media than a large number of Islamists took to X to castigate Shah Rukh Khan and declare him a murtad, kafir, etc. A barrage of despicable comments were made against the actor because he visited a Hindu temple despite being a Muslim.

It is worth noting that idol worshipping or idolatry is considered as an unpardonable sin as per Islamic texts and carries strict punishment. The Qur’an considers shirk as a sin that will not be forgiven if a person dies without repenting of it.

A Muslim fundamentalist who appeared visibly offended by SRK’s visit to Shirdi Sai Temple said the actor could not be considered as a Muslim but a Murtad and a Kafir.

Murtad is an Islamic term for ‘apostasy’, which means an abandonment of a religious belief. Kafir, on the other hand, is a word used as a pejorative for non-Muslims.

Another X user said Shah Rukh Khan is not a Muslim because if he believed in Allah, he would have never visited a temple and pray there. According to Islamic scriptures, Muslims are prohibited from indulging in idolatory and idol worshipping is considered as a sin, forbidden in Islam.

It is worth noting that idol worshipping or idolatry is considered as an unpardonable sin as per Islamic texts and carries strict punishment. The Qur’an considers shirk as a sin that will not be forgiven if a person dies without repenting of it.

One of the Muslim social media users tweeted, “If you call yourself a Muslim and his fan at the same time, you need to evaluate your Iman.”

Many others too attacked the actor for his visit to Shirdi temple.

“Are actor Shah Rukh Khan and the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan having a competition to see who can engage in more shirk? Absolute sellout fools,” wrote another Islamist fundamentalist.

While many Islamists abused and attacked SRK for his visit to the Shirdi temple, this is not the first time that the Kal Ho Naa Ho actor has raised the hackles of the Muslim fundamentalists. Every year, Islamists suffer a meltdown after SRK celebrates Hindu festivals, most notably Ganesh Chaturthi, when the actor installs an idol of Lord Ganesha at his home and offers prayers to Him. The actor shares a picture of the Ganesha idol every year, driving the Islamists up the wall who then resort to using familiar abuses to attack the Bollywood artist for indulging in ‘idol worshipping’.

‘Arrest illegal, force-fed beef, pork’: Indian national Nikhil Gupta detained in Czech over Gurpatwant Singh Pannun murder plot approaches SC

0

Nikhil Gupta’s family members filed a habeas corpus petition with the Supreme Court, seeking relief on his behalf. Gupta faces accusations from the United States for conspiring to eliminate Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. The petition implores the Government of India to intervene in Gupta’s detention in the Czech Republic, arguing that his arrest in a foreign country at the request of the United States is considered illegal.

On Friday (15th December), the Supreme Court postponed the petition to 4th January 2024. At first, the bench, which includes Justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti, indicated a reluctance to consider the petition, stating that the detainee should seek relief from the “appropriate court.”

The court said, “You have to go before the court which is outside India. Go over there. We are not going to have an adjudication over here. The person detained has not given the affidavit. If there is a violation of any law etc you have to go to court over there. We will have this on January 4 after vacations. We will decide on the next day. Serve copy to the central agency.”

Nikhil Gupta said in his petition that he was in the Czech Republic on a leisure and business exploration trip when he was illegally detained at the Prague Airport on June 30. Senior Advocate Aryama Sundaram, appearing on behalf of the petitioner, said, “The circumstances surrounding his arrest were marked by irregularities, with no formal arrest warrant presented, and the apprehension executed by self-claimed US agents rather than local Czech authorities.”

The plea provided a comprehensive account of the petitioner’s detention at the airport following his clearance at the immigration counter. According to the petition, upon exiting the airport, the petitioner was approached by individuals claiming to be law enforcement, who detained him without specifying any reason for his apprehension. Subsequently, he was compelled into a sports utility vehicle (SUV), and a device was affixed to his mobile phone.

It is crucial to highlight that the petitioner was not intercepted at the immigration counter; rather, his apprehension took place after completing immigration procedures when he exited the Prague Airport. The petition argues that the subsequent three-hour interrogation within the confines of an SUV was entirely unlawful, contravening both international and domestic legal principles.

The petitioner, a devout Hindu and adherent to a vegetarian lifestyle, was subjected to the coercive consumption of beef and pork while in Czech custody, directly infringing upon his religious convictions, as asserted in the petition. Additionally, the petition contends that he was deprived of consular access, the right to communicate with his family in India, and the freedom to seek legal representation.

Notably, Czech authorities have verified that Gupta’s detention was carried out at the request of the United States of America. U.S. prosecutors have accused Gupta of collaborating with an Indian government official in a thwarted plot to assassinate Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu on American soil. Pannu, who holds dual citizenship in the United States and Canada, was the target of the alleged conspiracy.
