US: Negligence lawsuit filed against Google Maps after North Carolina man drove to his death off a collapsed bridge following app’s directions

0

The family of Philip Paxson from North Carolina is suing Google Maps for negligence after the man died upon following the app’s directions and drove his car off a fallen bridge. They charged that the technology giant was aware of the collapse but did not update its navigation system.

A complaint was submitted on September 19, 2023, in Wake County Superior Court saying that Philip Paxson, a medical device salesperson and father of two, drowned on September 30, 2022, when his Jeep Gladiator slid into Snow Creek in Hickory. Google Maps reportedly instructed him to cross Snow Creek Bridge. The bridge had collapsed in 2013 and was never rebuilt. Paxson was returning from his daughter’s ninth birthday party via an unknown neighbourhood.

Paxson’s wife Alicia Paxson released a statement which read, “Our girls ask how and why their daddy died, and I’m at a loss for words. They can’t understand because, as an adult, I still can’t understand how those responsible for the GPS directions, and the bridge, could have acted with so little regard for human life. Google ignored the concerned community voices telling them to change its map and directions. No one should ever lose a loved one this way, and we want to make sure our voices are heard.”

The victim was not aware of the bridge that he drove over as he followed Google Maps’ instructions to complete the roughly 10-minute route home. The suit asserted, “The bridge had no artificial lighting, and the area was pitch black at 11:00 p.m. While following the dangerous directions the Google Map defendants provided, Mr. Paxson’s vehicle drove off the unguarded edge of the bridge and crashed approximately twenty feet below.”

It was reported by state troopers that there were no barricades or warning signs along the washed-out road where the body was discovered in his flipped-over and partially submerged truck. According to the claim, he had driven off an unsecured ledge and crashed around 20 feet below.

The original developer’s company had dissolved, according to the North Carolina State Patrol, and neither local nor state authorities were responsible for maintaining the bridge. The complaint listed many private property management firms as defendants and accused that they are in charge of maintaining the bridge and the nearby area.

Many individuals had alerted Google Maps about the situation in the years before the incident and had pushed the firm to update its route data, per the lawsuit. A second Hickory resident used the map’s “suggest an edit” function in September 2020 to inform the corporation that it was sending traffic across the destroyed bridge, per email records included in the legal filing. Google acknowledged receiving the grievance and examining the requested adjustment in an email sent in November 2020, however, the lawsuit contended that no further action was initiated.

Google spokesperson José Castañeda said, “We have the deepest sympathies for the Paxson family. Our goal is to provide accurate routing information in Maps and we are reviewing this lawsuit,” in a press release.

Tarde LLC, James Tarlton, and Hinckley Gauvain LLC are named in the lawsuit which argued that they are liable for the bridge and the road. The road is reportedly a private one and counties in North Carolina do not maintain public or private highways, but the state does the same for state-owned roadways. Images of messages from Kim Ellis, who lives in Hickory and twice suggested changes to Google Maps regarding the collapsed bridge, are included in the lawsuit.

After Philip Paxson’s passing, his family filed a lawsuit for unspecified amounts of compensation and punitive damages, and have requested a jury trial in the matter.

Indonesia: TikToker with over 2 million followers jailed for saying ‘Bismillah’ before eating ‘crispy-skin pork’. Read what happened

0

On Tuesday, a court in Indonesia sentenced a woman to two years in jail for alleged ‘blasphemy’. Lina Lutfiawati, a 33-year-old famous social media influencer, who has over 2 million followers on the Chinese short-form video hosting app TikTok, was found guilty of ‘inciting hatred’ for a video she posted on the social media site in March this year, wherein she was heard saying ‘bismillah’ (an Islamic prayer) before eating ‘crispy skin pork’.

Besides the jail term, the court also asked the TikToker to pay a fine of 250 million rupiah ($16,245 or Rs 13,48,111) failing which, her jail term would be extended by three months.

Lina Lutfiawati is a lifestyle influencer, who has over two million TikTok followers. She acquired the Indian name Lina Mukherjee owing to her love of Bollywood films. She also runs a business in India. Lina is a Muslim and pork consumption is strictly forbidden in Islam.

Indonesia, a Muslim-majority country, forbids eating pork and those found guilty can also be tried under blasphemy laws.

Lina was reportedly travelling in Bali, Indonesia when she uploaded the TikTok video. The matter came to light in March after the video went viral.

In the video, Lina could have been heard saying “Bismillah,” which translates to “in the name of God” in Arabic.

The video received millions of views and was highly condemned, prompting another Indonesian to report her to the police for “knowingly eating pork skin as a Muslim.”

In May, an Indonesian court convicted Lina for disseminating hateful information. The court ruled that it was an act of hostility over ethnicity, religion, and race.

Many Islamist groups across the country, including the Ulema Council, Indonesia’s leading Muslim clerical body, issued rulings calling the video posted by Lina blasphemous.

Lina’s case is the most recent in a long line of high-profile blasphemy convictions in Indonesia. Last year, the Indonesian police had arrested six people after a bar named Holywings, promoted free alcohol, prohibited in Islam, for customers named Mohammed.

Similarly, in 2017, an Indonesian court found Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, the then-Christian governor of the country’s capital, Jakarta, guilty of blasphemy and sentenced him to 2 years in jail over comments he made regarding what he believed to be the misinterpretation of certain verses of the Quran.

Who was Sukha Duneke, whose gang buddy Arsh Dalla is linked with Congress leader Balli’s murder in Moga

On 20th September (local time), one of the most wanted criminals by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Sukhdool Singh alias Sukha Duneke, was killed in a gang war in Canada. As per the India Today report, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has taken responsibility for the murder of Sukha Duneke.

Duneke was an associate of Arsh Dalla, a Khalistani terrorist who recently took responsibility for killing Congress leader Baljinder Singh Balli in Moga.

Duneke was a member of the Bambiha gang that was named in controversial Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala’s murder. He escaped to Canada in 2017. He was operating his gang activities in India while sitting comfortably in Canada. Hailing from the south Malwa region, Duneke was a small time gangster who rose to headlines quickly. Along with gangsters like Goldy Brar and Arsh Dalla, he was into extortion and cross-border funding. Duneke was a known Khalistani sympathiser.

There was a time when Duneke was limited to local gang rivalries in Punjab. However, after escaping to Canada, he and his associate gangsters took control of a well-organised crime network. As per reports, they masterminded several crimes in Punjab and nearby states and provided “real-time” assistance to local gangsters using their vast network in Punjab. Dunnake was wanted in matters linked to terrorism, murder, attempt to murder, loot, extortion, and kidnapping.

Reportedly, Dunnake used social media and other digital platforms to stay connected to gang members in Punjab.

Duneke’s criminal history

Duneke was one of the key members of the Davinder Bambiha gang and operated mainly in Malwa districts. At one point in life, Dunnake was an employee at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office in Moga. However, things took a different turn in his life, and he joined the world of crime. In 2017, Duneke escaped India with the help of two police officers who provided forged documents aiding his escape. At that time, seven pending cases against him rose to 20+ by the time he got killed. Duneke had spent some time in Faridkot jail before escaping to Canada.

Two police officials were booked in Punjab for aiding Duneke

In June 2022, ASI Prabhdyal Singh and head constable Gurwinder Singh were booked by Moga Police for helping Duneke in obtaining a fraudulent passport and police clearance certificate in 2017 that helped him escape to Canada. An FIR was registered under Sections 420, 467, 468 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 10(3)(B) and 10(3)(E) of the Indian Passport Act against the two police officials.

As per reports, the police officials cleared Duneke’s name during passport verification in 2017 despite the fact that there were seven cases registered against him. Based on their clearance, a passport was issued to Duneke. He managed to get a Canadian Visa and fled to Canada. After escaping to Canada, he came in contact with Khalistani terrorist Arsh Dalla and started activities of extortion and arms smuggling.

Duneke’s name appeared in a conspiracy to kill Kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal in March 2022 during a match at Mallian Village in Jalandhar.

Though Duneke was mainly involved in extortions and ‘supari’ killings, he was a known associate of Khalistani terrorist organizations too.

Khalistani terrorist Arsh Dalla

Arsh Dalla, who was declared an “individual terrorist” under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) by the Indian government in January, was facing six criminal cases in Punjab before he fled abroad. In 2017, an assistant sub-inspector fabricated a verification report for Dalla, which helped him obtain his passport and fly to Canada. After moving to Canada, Dalla became involved in terrorist activities and was also involved in cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons on a large scale. According to the police, a total of 35 cases, including five murders, have been registered against him in Punjab since he fled abroad. Police say that Dalla is associated with the banned Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) and was running terror modules on behalf of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was also a designated terrorist. Dalla recently took responsibility for killing Congress leader Baljinder Singh Balli in Moga.

Hours after the murder, fugitive gangster and terrorist Arshdeep Singh Gill aka Arsh Dalla, who is also from Punjab and believed to be hiding in Canada, came to Facebook and claimed responsibility for the attack. Arsh Dalla accused Balli in a message posted on Facebook. He blamed Balli for introducing him to the world of crime and for ‘harassing his mother’.

Home Ministry called out the US and Canada for sheltering gangsters

In April this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement that the United States and Canada house the most number of notorious gangsters wanted in India. Duneke was one of the gangsters named by the Home Ministry. A list of 28 gangsters was released by the Home Ministry a day after Minister of External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar had slammed Western countries for failing to provide security to Indian diplomatic missions and consulates. His statement came in reference to the Indian flag being pulled down by Khalistani elements in the Indian High Commission in London.

On September 20, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) shared a list of 43 wanted criminals and gangsters with terrorism links. Arsh Dalla and the now deceased Sukhdool alias Sukha Duneke both feature in the list. Arsh Dalla is at No. 15, while Sukha Duneke was No 33.

Lawrence Bishnoi gang claims responsibility for killing Sukhdool Singh of the Davinder Bambiha gang in Canada

0

On 21st September 2023, gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for killing gangster Sukhdool Singh alias Sukha Duneke of the Davinder Bambiha gang in Canada. This was revealed by a Facebook post. Gangster Sukhdool Singh alias Sukha was killed in Canada by unknown gunmen. Sukhdool Singh was known as ‘Sukha Duneke’ and has been on a wanted list by India.

The message by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang alleged that Sukhdool Singh was behind the murders of Gurlal Brar and Vicky Middukhed, and conspired to kill other gang members. The gang warned that they will take revenge if anyone targets the groups members, even if it takes time.

The Facebook post said, “The Lawrence Bishnoi group claims responsibility for the murder of Sukhdool Singh alias Sukha Duneke who posed to be the in charge of the Bambiha Group that took place in Winnipeg city of Canada. This heroin addict has caused harm to many families just to satisfy his urge for money and addiction. Sitting outside the country he conspired the killings of our brothers Gurlal Brar and Vicky Middukheda. He also conspired in the murder of Sandeep Nangal. He got the punishment for his sins. We just want to tell you one thing. After becoming our enemies, in whichever country you go, you will not be saved irrespective of which country you hide in. It may take some time, but everyone will be punished.”

Lawrence Bishnoi is presently incarcerated in Ahmedabad as part of an ongoing National Investigation Agency (NIA) inquiry into a drug smuggling case. Additionally, he faces charges as a suspect in the murder case involving Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.

Goldy Brar is a central figure in the investigation regarding the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Mansa district on May 29, 2022. Originally from Sri Muktsar Sahib in Punjab, Satinderjeet Singh, who goes by the alias Goldy Brar, relocated to Canada in 2017 on a student visa. He has gained notoriety as a prominent member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

According to reports, unknown assailants shot Sukha in what appears to be an inter-gang clash in Canada’s Winnipeg. Interestingly, Sukha’s name was on the list of wanted criminals shared by NIA on September 20. The names included criminals engaged in terror-gangster acts against India.

As per reports, Sukha’s murder has been cited as similar to that of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June this year, for which Canada is now blaming India. Sukha’s name was on the list of 43 wanted criminals released by NIA. 29 gangsters from the Punjab region feature in the list. Sukha appeared at Number 33 on the NIA’s list. Now, Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang claimed the responsibility for his murder.

India suspends visa services in Canada “until further notice”, announces visa service provider

India has suspended visa services for Canadian nationals as diplomatic ties continue to deteriorate between the two countries. This comes in the backdrop of Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau alleging Indian govt’s hand behind the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

BLS International, which runs visa application centres for India in Canada and many other countries, posted a message on its Canadian website which read, “Important notice from Indian Mission: Due to operational reasons, with effect from 21 September 2023, Indian visa services have been suspended till further notice. Please keep checking BLS website for further updates.”

Screenshot of BLS International website notifying about the Indian Mission’s notice to suspend visa services to Canadians till further notice

BLS International is an Indian company that provides outsourcing services for diplomatic missions worldwide. The company provides visa, passport, consular, and citizen services.

The website of the High Commission of India in Ottawa has no update on the suspension of visa services, and the website of the Consulate General of India in Toronto seems to be down.

No formal announcement of the suspension of visa services has been made. However, an Indian official reportedly confirmed the suspension but did not comment further. “The language is clear and it says what it is intended to say,” as per Hindustan Times.

On 20 September, the Ministry of External Affairs issued an advisory to its citizens in Canada urging them to exercise caution citing the surge in anti-India activities and politically-endorsed hate crimes.

Meanwhile, security has been heightened at India’s missions in Canada for senior diplomats after Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) chief Gurpatwant Pannun issued threats to Canadian Hindus asking them to leave Canada.

In a video titled “Leave Canada, Indo-Hindus, Go To India”, Pannu said, “Indo-Canadian Hindus, you have repudiated the allegiance to Canada and the Canadian constitution. Your destination is India. Leave Canada, go to India.”

India has sought additional security at the embassy in Ottawa and consulates in Toronto and Vancouver after the threat issued by SFJ.

Amid such blatant threats and the free pass to the Khalistani elements, it is a must that Indian High Commissions, diplomats, their staff, and citizens get security by the Canadian authorities.

Canada too has sought additional security around its high commission in New Delhi and consulates in Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Bengaluru saying that they “expect India to provide for the security of our accredited diplomats and consular officers in India, just as we are for theirs here.”

ISRO should not release ugly photos of the Moon, will hurt people who see it as a symbol of beauty: Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav

0

Samajwadi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav made a bizarre demand from the scientists of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on September 20. Ram Gopal Yadav stated that they should keep the unflattering pictures of the moon for their research and should not release them to the public because it will hurt the hearts of those who view the natural satellite of Earth as a symbol of beauty.

Yadav conveyed his unusual concern while participating in the discussion on the topic of ‘India’s glorious space journey Chandrayaan-3‘s successful soft landing’. The Samajwadi MP said, “We will request our scientists to keep the unattractive photos of the Moon for study instead of showing them to the public.”

The MP further added, “Female names are Shashi Prabha or Chand Prabha, whereas male names have the Moon in them such as Subhash Chand, Manik Chand etc. The Moon’s inclusion in the names of both men and women is due to its beauty.”

Earlier, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar introduced the politician as Ram Gopal Verma rather than Ram Gopal Yadav leading to laughter in the house.

Notably, this isn’t the first time that a bizarre statement from an Indian politician regarding India’s milestone moon mission has come to the fore. West Bengal Chief Minister had earlier said, “I remember, when Rakesh Roshan landed on the Moon, Indira Gandhi asked him how India looked from there,” in a clip that went viral on social media.

After confusing director Rakesh Roshan with astronaut Rakesh Sharma, she made another gaffe a few days later and said that former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had visited the moon. “When Indira reached on the moon, she asked Rakesh how does India look from the moon,” she declared at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Youth wing rally.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully demonstrated the capability of soft-landing on the surface of the moon at approximately 6:04 PM IST on 23 August and etched itself and the country’s name in history. The moment Vikram Lander touched the lunar south pole, India became the first nation to achieve this momentous feat. Overall, India joined the United States, China, and the erstwhile Soviet Union (Russia) as the only other space powers to successfully complete a soft landing on the moon.

Madhya Pradesh: Salman Khan and Chhotu Khan attack Hindu family in Gwalior for performing Ganesh Aarti, mother, son among 4 injured with swords and sticks

0

In Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, a Hindu family was brutally attacked while performing the ‘aarti’ of Lord Ganesh. The assailants in this incident were their neighbours, Salman and Chhotu Khan, who violently targeted the family during their bhajans and aarti, as per reports. The culprits used lathis and a sword in this attack.

As a result of this assault, several members of the Hindu family sustained serious injuries. This distressing event occurred on 21st September 2023.

As Urmila Yadav, a member of a Hindu household, initiated the aarti ceremony at the Ganesh pandal and switched on the sound system, Salman Khan and Chhotu Khan, immediately came there and attacked the Hindu family with with swords and sticks, as per the victim family’s complaint. In the ensuing violence, four individuals, including a mother and her son, suffered injuries, necessitating their immediate hospitalization. The local authorities have registered a case and initiated an active search for the suspects involved in this disturbing incident.

The incident took place in the Prajapati Mohalla on the ‘Gende Wali Road’ which comes under the Janakganj police station area in Gwalior. Jitendra Yadav, son of Bharat Singh Yadav, who lives in Prajapati Mohalla, has installed an idol of Lord Ganesh in the locality. As per the complaint, Salman and Chhotu from the neighbourhood were against the celebration. This attack was done as soon as Urmila Yadav turned on the sound system to perform aarti at the Ganesh pandal.

Following the installation of the idol of Lord Ganesh, the local youth, including Jitendra, gathered to perform nighttime puja and aarti. However, an unsettling turn of events occurred when Salman Khan and Chhotu Khan, residents of the same neighbourhood, arrived at the scene. These individuals were heard using offensive language in proximity to the pandal, prompting objections from those present during the aarti. In response to being confronted about their language, Salman Khan and Chhotu Khan issued threats to Jitendra Yadav. They also abused the worshippers and insisted on switching off the sound system.

Shortly after, Salman Khan and Chhotu Khan came with their companions Irrfan Khan, Parvez Khan, and others. These people attacked Jitendra and other youths while performing aarti. Jitendra was hit in the head with a sword. Panic spread due to the use of swords. Jitendra’s mother Urmila Yadav, neighbour Jaswant Khatik, and others came to their rescue. They have also been hurt in the attack.

The local residents alerted both the police and an ambulance. Jitendra Yadav, in critical condition, was transported to the hospital, where he is currently receiving intensive medical care and treatment. According to reports in the local media, the assailants involved in the incident were numerous. As per a report by News Mail Today, in addition to Salman Khan, Irfan, Parvez, and Chhotu Khan, several other attackers were involved in the incident. Notably, among these individuals, Salman Khan was observed wielding a sword during the altercation.

In this case, Janakganj Police Station In-charge Vipendra Singh Chauhan has confirmed that the police have filed an attempt to murder case against four accused. Furthermore, he emphasized that security personnel have been stationed at the location to prevent any potential recurrence of such incidents.

The location of the incident is situated in a particularly sensitive area within the city. Historically, during events such as the Ganesh festival, Navratri festival, and Tazia, even minor disagreements have had the potential to escalate into significant sources of tension in this locality. In response, police are actively working to get CCTV footage from the vicinity of the incident for investigative purposes.

As Justin Trudeau makes up stories in his head about India, 1000s in his country march against the militarised wokeness of gender politics

0

On Wednesday, September 20, thousands of people gathered in cities across Canada to rally against the indoctrination of kids in schools by the woke far-left activists.

Protesters charged that schools expose young students to ‘gender ideology,’ and that parents have the authority to know whether their children have doubts about their gender identification. Meanwhile, counter-demonstrators blamed protesters for bringing US culture conflicts into the country and attempting to deny students critical lessons about inclusivity and respect for gender-diverse persons.

The protesters joined the 1 Million March 4 Children, a protest that raised voices against indoctrination and sexualisation of children, and converged on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. The protesters stated that the public school boards marketed gender ideology and sexual indoctrination as a part of the educational curriculum.

Meanwhile counter-demonstrators used phrases like “transphobia,” “trans kids,” “two-spirit,” and “safe spaces” in their rally. The protesters and the counter-demonstrators yelled slogans against each other.

The march’s organisers stated that they are protesting premature sexualisation and potentially harmful indoctrination of children, but that they are not anti-LGBTQ2S+ persons.

Several police officers stood between competing protesters and tried to pacify the situation. The Ottawa Police later confirmed that two arrests had been made for inciting hatred at the demonstrations by displaying hateful material. “Hate or bias-motivated crimes will be fully investigated,” the police wrote on Twitter (X).

Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe also commented on the protests and said, “As Mayor of Ottawa, I condemn any form of discrimination or hatred. Members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community have the right to live free from harassment and bigotry. I respect the right to protest, however, the specific targeting of 2SLGBTQIA+ children for being who they are, has no place in our city. The protests taking place today will only cause harm to youth who are looking for our support and acceptance. I stand with Ottawa’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Please know that you are valued and are always welcome here.”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau commented saying “Transphobia, homophobia, and biphobia have no place in this country. We strongly condemn this hate and its manifestations, and we stand united in support of 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians across the country — you are valid and you are valued.”

The protests are also said to have taken place in Victoria, Regina, Saskatoon, and Toronto.

Many protesters in the 1 Million March 4 Children event repeatedly stated that sexual content aimed at children in public schools, which is presented as instructional curriculum by school boards, is harmful to children. Several of these participants described a degradation of parental power over their own children, which they defined as a weakening of parental rights by government-run schools that are increasingly remote from and hostile to their kids’ parents’ preferences.

As reported earlier, Canadian Muslim Organisations and the Canadian Council of Imams have extended in principle support to the 1 million March for Children which has been started by a man named Kamel El-Cheikh as a counter to Trudeau’s woke agenda.

In a written statement, the Muslim organisations jointly said, “Canada is regrettably moving in a direction where advocates of sexual and gender ethics contrary to the Islamic faith are going beyond their limits by imposing their worldview on our children, often without the knowledge or consent of parents.”

“Enforcing agreement with beliefs and practices that are incompatible with the Islamic moral code is harmful to our children. This means that mandated celebration or affirmation of LGBTQ, including direct or indirect impositions to participate in “Pride” events and activities, constitutes an infringement on the legal rights of Muslims,” it added.

The Muslim organisations demanded that every child deserves a coercion-free educational environment, where they are not forced to engage in activities contrary to their faith.

This is not the first time that Muslims and the Trudeau government have drawn swords against each other on the issue of the LGBTQ+ community. Earlier, in July, many Muslim outfits staged protests where they not only attacked gender ideology but also directly criticised Trudeau for presiding over a woke agenda that they strongly reject. ‘F**k Trudeau’ flags were all over the place at these parents’ protests.

Meanwhile, as Canada stands divided over the issue of woke agenda and gender politics, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is busy antagonising India to appease his Khalistani vote bank. From blaming India for the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar without any proof to suspending trade talks with India, Trudeau has been trying to provoke India at every turn.

India denied the allegations and released an official statement affirming that claims made by Canada are absurd and motivated, the Trudeau govt is continuing to make up stories against India in their heads and turning a blind eye to actually what needs attention in his own country.

Trudeau plane delay: After refusing to deny ‘sabotage’ theory, Canadian Minister of Defence says there was no sabotage

0

Merely 10 hours after refusing to categorically deny that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s plane was ‘sabotaged’ in India, Minister of National Defence of Canada Bill Blair has now ruled out sabotage.

Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair was asked by the media if sabotage has been ruled out in technical issues in Canada’s plane on his (Trudeau’s) trip to India. Blair said that he would not comment on that.

“There are obviously uncoined concerns. I am also focused on replacing those planes because we have already made that step…,” Blair said but was interrupted with another question.

“But you are not commenting on if there’s any potential sabotage?” a reporter asked. “No, I am not commenting on that,” the Canadian Minister said.

10 hours on, speaking outside the House of Commons, Blair then clarified that it was a technical error, and not sabotage, in his plane. Justin Trudeau was stranded in India for well over 36 hours of his scheduled time of departure making global headlines.

When asked by the media once again whether the resting period of the plane at the Delhi airport was sabotage, Bill Blair denied the same. “No, it was not. The first time I received that question was this morning and it was the first time I had heard that suggested. But I went back in and had confirmed with our people that that plane was very much in our possession throughout our time in India and it has been very clearly and unequivocally determined that it was a mechanical problem that required repair so there can be a safe departure. It was also an unfortunate delay. We are also addressing that delay through the acquisition of new aircraft that hopefully will prevent the thing from reoccurring in the future.”

The Canadian Prime Minister made headlines for all the wrong reasons and the delayed departure could not have made things worse for him. Not only was Trudeau ignored by world leaders at the G20 but also got a strong message from India during a “pull aside” talk over rising anti-India activities in Canada by Khalistanis.

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau was denied a chance at a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister. On 10 September, the concluding day of the G20 Summit, Trudeau was scheduled to fly back to Canada but his plane developed a glitch.

On 12 September, a backup aircraft got on its way to Canada to pick up the stranded leader but even that was diverted to London for unknown reasons. Moreover, according to sources cited by ANI, New Delhi had offered Trudeau the service of Air India One but the Canadian side declined the offer and chose to wait for the backup that never arrived.

The dramatic snag and delay came amid the visible tension between the two nations at the G20 Summit over India’s concerns.

Switzerland’s parliament passes legislation to ban burqa, introduces fine for violators

0

On Wednesday, September 20, the Lower House of Parliament in Switzerland passed legislation to ban burqa (Islamic veil) in the country. Following the passage of the legislation, covering one’s face with a burqa has become illegal and wearing it would attract a fine of 1000 Swiss Francs which is around Rs 83,000.

The legislation was adopted by the National Council with a vote of 151-29. It had already been approved by the upper house. It was easily passed by the Swiss People’s Party, despite reservations expressed by centrists and the Greens.

The legislation comes after a nationwide referendum in 2021 in which Swiss voters approved prohibiting niqabs, that leave slits for the eyes, burqas, ski masks, and bandanas.

The proposal to ban face veils in public was passed in a referendum in 2021. The Swiss People’s Party (SVP) members who constitute the Egerkinger Komitee, which organised “resistance against the claims to power of political Islam in Switzerland”, were behind the initiative to outlaw the burqa.

Contending that “free people show their faces” and “the burqa and niqab are not normal clothes,” the group amassed the necessary 100,000 petition signatures in 2017 to push a referendum on the issue. 51.2% of Swiss voters approved the proposed ban.

The law bans concealing the nose, mouth, and eyes in both public and private buildings that are open to the public, with limited exceptions.

Notably, similar regulations already exist in two Swiss cantons: southern Ticino and northern St. Gallen. Switzerland’s national legislation will bring it in line with countries such as Belgium and France, who have implemented similar legislation.
