Is AAP lying? LG says they received no request from Delhi govt to extend ‘Dilli ki Yogshala’ program beyond 31st Oct

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has initiated a new offensive against Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena by utilising the ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’ program. The party led by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has claimed that Delhi LG has denied approval for the extension of the ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’ project beyond October 31. A claim, that has been categorically refuted by officials in the LG’s office who said they had not received any file seeking permission for the extension.

In a Tweet posted on November 3, Thursday, the Aam Aadmi Party claimed that they would be continuing the ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’ programme ‘despite’ the Delhi LG not granting permission for the same. The post in Hindi read, “CM Arvind Kejriwal restarted yoga classes all over Delhi despite the LG not giving approval for the same. The promise made has been fulfilled.”

In a Tweet dated Thursday, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also attacked Saxena. Calling him a ‘conspirator,’ Sisodia wrote in Hindi that the public of Delhi, by continuing to participate in the yoga programme, has given a befitting response to the governor, on whose order government officials are being intimidated, threatened, and pressured to stop the yoga classes.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) posted a video to attack the Delhi Lieutenant Governor accusing him of denying permission for free yoga classes for Delhi residents. In a video that appeared to be an effort at emotional manipulation, a yoga instructor was heard claiming that a 75-year-old Delhi resident approached her and encouraged her to tell him who he would visit and request so that these yoga classes would not be stopped.

The video was accompanied by allegations that the Delhi Lieutenant Governor has stopped the Yoga classes which is benefitting thousands of Delhi residents.

The particular controversy erupted on October 31 after Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said the 590 yoga classes in parks run by the Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University will be closed from November 1.

Sisodia claimed he met Saxena on October 28, seeking the continuation of the Dilli ki Yogshala programme. After the meeting, Sisodia alleged that Delhi government officials were being pressured to stop the yoga classes under the ‘Dilli Ki Yogshala’ program.

These allegations that the Aam Aadmi Party issued against the Delhi Lieutenant Governor, have been refuted by the office of L-G, saying that the LG office has not yet received any file seeking permission for an extension of the yoga program beyond October 31. “So it is wrong to state that the LG has not approved the extension of the program due to which it is being discontinued,” an official in the LG’s office said.

Political face-off between the AAP and LG

Notably, the political spat between the AAP administration and the LG erupted in July after Saxena recommended a CBI probe into the Delhi government’s excise policy 2021-22 for alleged violations of rules and procedural lapses.

In response, a number of AAP leaders launched a series of attacks against the LG, claiming he indulged in money laundering. AAP and its leaders were accused of defaming the LG by claiming on social media and press conferences that Vinai Kumar Saxena was involved in a scam worth Rs 1400 crore.

On August 31, LG House Officials said in a statement that the Lt Governor would take legal action against a number of Aam Aadmi Party leaders Saurabh Bhardwaj, Atishi, Durgesh Pathak and Jasmine Shah, among others, for highly defamatory and false allegations of corruption.

On Tuesday, September 27, the Delhi High Court passed an ad interim injunction order in favour of Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena and against Aam Aadmi Party and its five leaders in connection with a matter pertaining to their corruption allegations against him.

Subramanian Swamy is a Z category protectee, security arrangements for him are adequate: Centre tells Delhi High Court

In response to a notice issued by the Delhi High Court on a petition by former Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy seeking security arrangements at his private residence in the national capital, the Centre stated that security agencies are content that appropriate arrangements have been made to ensure the former Rajya Sabha MP’s safety, given that he is a Z category protectee.

“Security agencies are satisfied that appropriate arrangements have been made for ensuring the safety and security of former Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy, considering the fact that he is a Z category protectee,” the centre told Delhi High Court on the matter.

This comes after former BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy filed a petition with the Delhi High Court on October 27 alleging that the Centre failed to provide proper protection at his private house in the national capital.

The case resulted as the six-week timeframe set by the Delhi High Court for him to vacate the government bungalow in Delhi’s Lutyens’ area to the estate officer expired last Thursday. Swamy’s attorney recently assured the court that custody of the government residence will be given over by Saturday.

Delhi HC directed Subramanian Swamy to vacate Govt accommodation within 6 weeks

The Delhi High Court ordered Swamy to evacuate the government bungalow within six weeks on September 14, and that period concluded on October 27. On the final day of the grace period, he petitioned the High Court for an extension of time to keep the bungalow. The plea appears to be Subramanian Swamy’s last-ditch attempt to keep occupying the government residence he was allocated in 2016.

Notably, in January 2016, the urban development ministry of the union government allotted a bungalow on Pandara Road in the Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone in Delhi to Subramanian Swamy on security grounds. Swamy was a private citizen at that time, but he was allotted the VVIP house based on threat perception.

Subramanian Swamy was nominated as a Rajya Sabha member in April 2016, and he continued to live in bungalow number AB-14 as an MP. His Rajya Sabha term ended in April this year, but he wanted to retain the house and approached the Delhi High Court seeking re-allotment of the bungalow. In his plea, he had said that it was originally allotted to him on security grounds, and he still faces threats due to his political activities.

The disgruntled BJP leader claimed that the type 7 bungalow should be re-allotted to him as he is a Z-category protectee and there are security guards that stay with him.

But the central govt opposed the plea, saying that the house has to be allocated to other ministers and MPs. Central Government’s Standing Counsel Asheesh Jain said that while Swamy’s Z-category security has not been downgraded, the question is on the bungalow, which was allotted for five years, and that term has expired.

After hearing the arguments, the High Court rejected the plea filed by Swamy on September 14 this year and ordered him to vacate the bungalow within 6 weeks. The court noted that Swamy owns a private residence in Nizamuddin East, and directed the govt to arrange for his security and safety there.

UN Security Council: India abstains from voting on Russian resolution seeking an investigation into alleged bio-weapons in Ukraine

0

On Thursday, India abstained from voting on yet another resolution involving Ukraine at the UN Security Council. The motion, which was sponsored by Russia, sought to form a commission to probe Moscow’s claims that the US and Ukraine are conducting “military biological activities” in Ukrainian laboratories in breach of the biological weapons convention.

The resolution failed to get adopted as only two Council members, Russia and China, voted in favour, while the United States, the United Kingdom, and France voted against it, and the remaining Council members, including India, abstained.

Counsellor A. Amarnath of India’s Permanent Mission to the UN stated in his explanation of the vote that India places a high value on the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), which is the first non-discriminatory disarmament treaty that prohibits a broad range of weapons of mass destruction. “We remain committed to enhancing the effectiveness of the BWC and strengthening its implementation in letter and spirit”, he said.

According to the reports, India also reiterated the need to negotiate a comprehensive legally binding protocol that includes an effective, universal, and non-discriminatory verification mechanism to enhance the Convention’s implementation.

“This is necessary to strengthen the BWC and its implementation by the State Parties and we hope the current situation will provide an impetus for early consideration, negotiation, and finalization of such a protocol by the State Parties. Factoring in all these aspects, India has decided to abstain from the resolution,” he stated.

US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, who voted against the resolution, said that the resolution endorsed by Russia was ‘based on disinformation, dishonesty, bad faith, and a total lack of respect for UNSC’. “Russia has failed to provide any credible evidence to support these false allegations. And as you can see from the vote today, no one is buying it except China. I will not devote any more time, energy, or resources to these lies from Russia. Nor should the rest of the Security Council. Not while troops still occupy Ukrainian territory. And not while Russian forces continue to attack Ukrainian civilians and commit war crimes. Instead of letting Russia waste our time, we should focus on the truth and the horrors Russia has inflicted upon the Ukrainian people”, she was quoted as saying.

However, Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative Dmitry Polyanskiy said that Moscow would continue to act within the BTWC (Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention) framework and make the necessary efforts to establish all the facts related to the violation by the United States and Ukraine of obligations under the BTWC in the context of the activities of biological laboratories on Ukrainian territory. Adding that sooner or later, all perpetrators will have to be accountable for such illegal activities in front of the global community anyway.

Meanwhile, Amarnath noted that India had taken part in discussions on the matter under consideration in Geneva in September and had voiced its views on this issue during previous Council meetings. “I reiterate that any matter relating to the obligations under the BWC should be addressed as per the provisions of the Convention and through consultations and cooperation between the relevant parties,” Amarnath said.

He went on to say that India wants to emphasise the importance of international cooperation in the area of peaceful biological activities and the exchange of scientific and technical data. “India emphasises the full and effective implementation of Article 10 of the Convention and underlines that biological related activities for peaceful purposes that are fully consistent with the Convention’s obligations should not be undermined,” he said.

During a Security Council meeting last week, Russian Permanent Representative Vassily Nebenzia stated that Moscow would present a draft law calling for the establishment and dispatch of a commission to investigate claims against the US and Ukraine regards to compliance with their commitments under the (BTWC) and activities of biological laboratories on Ukrainian territory.

According to Nebenzia, Russia has long voiced alarm about military biological activities carried out with the most direct support and involvement of the US Department of Defense (DoD) in laboratories in regions of the former Soviet republics away from the North American continent and close to the Russian borders.

‘We are sitting idle, no complaints of corruption in Goa in last few years’: State CBI chief encourages people to come forward and report corruption

0

On Wednesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) anti-corruption team in Goa stated that they are facing a unique problem as they have very little to do in the state. The CBI Goa unit also said that tolerance to corruption among the people of Goa is very high and that they had been sitting basically idle as no complaints of corruption had been reported in the recent past.

“The tolerance to corruption among people of Goa is very high. We are sitting idle, as there is not a single complaint of bribery or disproportionate assets in the state against officers from the people for the past five years”, Adesh Kumar, SP of CBI Goa was quoted as saying.

According to the reports, the last complaint was received by the CBI unit in the year 2018, and only three complaints had come to the CBI for investigation in the past three months. “For the past five years, we have not received a single complaint about bribery. We have also not received a single complaint about disproportionate assets. That means there is no corruption in Goa”, Kumar said.

He also added that the people of the state were quite satisfied and that this is ‘Ram Rajya’ as people are not aggrieved and that their tolerance towards corruption is very great here. “Are we to suggest that there is no bribery taking place in Goa and that Goa has turned into Ram Rajya?”, Adesh Kumar, SP of CBI Goa said while he was addressing an event that was organized to observe ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’.

Notably, the CBI unit of Goa is very small and consists of only five investigating officers. Kumar noted that there is no scope for expansion of the team until more crucial cases are received for investigation. According to Kumar, the three complaints received recently were related to financial fraud. “Two cases were referred by Canara bank for fraud and third is a minor complaint of sufficient provident fund contribution not being made by a company”, the SP said.

He meanwhile pointed out that there were many banks in the state and that their employees were charging huge illegal commissions for sanctioning loans of Rs 1 crore or above. “But in Goa, there are no complaints being registered. Many officers are purchasing expensive flats here. But no one is complaining”, he said.

The Superintendent of Police appealed to the public to come forward fearlessly and provide information about such incidents. “CBI will act based on oral information without any written complaint. We can take suo moto action but we have to receive information at least. If a person is being asked for a bribe, how would we know”, he said.

The CBI is currently prosecuting 80 corruption cases in the state, while only eight are being investigated. The agency is also looking into several cases handed over by the Goa high court, including the death of Swedish national Felix Dahl, who was allegedly murdered in south Goa in 2015. The CBI’s anti-corruption branch can investigate and prosecute corruption complaints against central government employees and central government entities such as banks, insurance companies, and central government PSUs among others.

As much as I admire the ongoing torture of the Left by Elon Musk, here is his massive handicap that he might need to overcome

If you recall my earlier article on Elon Musk, I said that India should not accept his unreasonable terms and offer any special deal to Tesla just to get him to sell in India. If you read it, it should be clear I was not one of his fanboys.

However, little did I imagine that within months he will recruit one more. Not that it matters to him, as he is already the richest person in the world and has 110m+ followers on Twitter.

Indian and global left’s ongoing and professionally executed ‘oppari’ over Elon’s acquisition of Twitter has been well analysed in Nupur’s article.  One pities the Indian left because just when they were busy singing the praise of Rahul Gandhi’s yatra, licking palms in anticipation of good times, this takes away the focus and probably some lifafas.

Left lashes out

I had also somewhat pessimistically predicted that Elon Musk taking over Twitter wouldn’t change much. Nothing much has happened since May to change my forecast. Though as predicted there is a lot of noise. Leftists have been lashing out furiously.

Elon is a successful businessman that has made Tesla and SpaceX what they are today. But he’s never been on time and often delivers much less than promised. Like FSD. But when it comes to delivering us the misery of the leftist cabal and their collective insanity, he is not just ahead of time, he has delivered way more than he has promised! And that is a source of genuine pleasure or schadenfreude.

I wish I had bought some stock in popcorn companies.

It is especially painful to the left as it is their own activism and climate change scaremongering that has made Elon what he is. Without carbon credits and generous subsidies to super-rich buyers of electric cars, a serious misallocation of public money in the opinion of many, Tesla would not have seen profits and would have long gone bankrupt. And their indulgence of his antics, because he is “saving the earth”, has fed the monster and made it bigger. Now he is roasting them in their own juice. And that often tastes good.

Now left is up to its familiar tricks. “Studies” have shown that “hate speech” on Twitter has gone up dramatically since Elon took over. Articles are written about how democracy will suffer. This is while there has been no change to Twitter’s policy! Left has expertise in coming out with “studies” by fake intellectuals that suits its narratives. After all, they “proved with studies” that the BLM protests that resulted in looted stores and burnt streets raging for weeks on TV were “largely peaceful”. In India, similar tricks have been used to “prove” pretty much anything the Politburo or Palazzo wants. Remember the Godhra train burning cleverly attributed to kar sevaks burning themselves? And the fake news and anti-Hindu venom on Delhi or Leicester anti-Hindu violence and riots?

Twitter’s sacking of staff, we are told, will affect control of “disinformation”. That is the leftist code word for an inconvenient truth. Such as Hunter Biden’s laptop story or COVID origin and Biden’s disastrous Presidency and dementia. In any case, it is an open admission of censorship to anyone not holding the scissors.

Musk’s plan to charge $8 is being opposed by millionaire and billionaire leftists with bizarre logic. AOC, not to be left behind, has protested the fee and Elon has hit back in his own style pointing out her hypocrisy of selling $58 sweatshirts on her personal website. Someone joked that she may demand a discount for people of colour.

As usual, the left uses words like “worried about safety” at the drop of the hat. In fact, those that oppose the Islamist-Left continuum are killed on regular basis and it is them that should be afraid. Instead, Stalinist rapist butcher left’s academics, ideologues and propagandists pretend they face “physical harm” – just because their blue tick will now have to be paid for! Something most of them can easily afford given their abundant funding!

How will it end?

Not that I particularly care if Twitter stays or goes belly up, but it is fun trying to predict how this will end. After all, nothing in this world is as uncertain as Elon Musk’s moods and U-turns. That makes prediction really fun even if dangerous.

On the positive side, Twitter is unique in the sense that it has no real competition – even Facebook has, in Tiktok. Google is kept in check by Apple and many others in niches. Yes, Trump and others have launched right-wing alternatives such as Gettr, Truth Social and Gab. Koo’s inability to keep its key users actively posting and it’s buggy poor-quality UI are clear proof if any is needed that it is not easy to replicate Twitter’s success, even in a single market let alone globally. There are enormous technical as well as marketing challenges.

As the world’s richest man Musk can afford to lose a few millions or even billions for a cause at least until the Tesla bubble doesn’t deflate.

Having said that, finally, companies run on money, not sentiment. That needs a sustainable business model and profits. Unlike Wikipedia, also controlled by fringe left, it cannot run on donations. Twitter post-acquisition has taken on enormous debt which comes with costs and bankers’ expectations. In its listed history, Twitter never made much money and in fact, lost about $770m cumulatively. A lot of that is stock compensation paid to insiders (read elite wokes) at the cost of diluting outsiders. If you had bought Twitter stock for $45 at IPO in 2013 and waited for Elon’s takeover at $54, the annual returns are about 2% – pathetic even ignoring the long bull market. Now there are no outsiders for elite wokes to shaft, only insiders and they want to make money.

That sets the scene for an interesting battle. Elon is used to running companies that make money from taxpayers or investors. And as pointed out earlier leftists have essentially funded his empire. Twitter presents a different set of challenges.

Everything will depend on how profitable Twitter is going to be. Elon’s $8 brainwave may not do the trick, even if implemented well. After all, it is rumoured that only 400k or so verified handles exist and many would not pay. Many that don’t have a blue tick in fact treasure the anonymity and would be fools to pay for taking that away, unless forced to.

While woke left is increasingly seen as destructive, poisonous, intolerant and hate-filled, the fact remains they control headlines in mainstream media and thus Corporate decisions indirectly given their nuisance value. Cases of companies or individuals standing up to woke blackmail and prevailing are few are far between. Even a brand like Victoria’s Secret had to meekly surrender and feature “plus-sized models” and (effectively) pay off wokes, recruiting their favoured elites as brand ambassadors. Already GM has put its Twitter ads on hold. The usual tropes and fake excuses – racism, Islamophobia and anti-LGBTQ etc will be used to good effect to enforce left censorship and adherence to narratives. Disobedience will have costs.

Furthermore, Elon’s personal cash cow, Tesla, is increasingly facing pressure from safety regulators for its disastrous FSD that, according to some experts, should be banned. This gives the woke left, at least until Biden regime lasts, enormous leverage to encourage good behaviour, if they choose to use it. As Elon himself said once, Tesla is worthless without it. In fact, even without regulatory pressure, best days of Tesla and its near monopoly seems to be behind it with fierce competition in China and Europe and soon USA its most profitable market. Its stock reflects that reality increasingly. This will keep Elon busy as he has borrowed considerably using it as collateral.

Elon’s own recent behaviour seems to suggest he is essentially anti-left and conservative at heart. His attacks on NYT, even Guardian provide ample justification for this assumption. But then he is capable of U-turns and somersaults that will have Kejriwal lifting his cap in awe.

If Twitter continues to be a leftist backwater it will simply fragment the market as one of the right-wing alternatives will find increasing traction. If on the other hand, the left deserts it and goes its own way, as some reports suggest, it will be the same or worse. Even if Musk folds in the face of leftist pressure and reverses some decisions, Twitter will not be in any better position. It may simply be back to square one, in fact, worse, with LBO debt.

All this leads me to believe that Musk has a massive handicap that he needs to overcome. Much as I admire his ongoing torture of the left with daily taunts, I really don’t wish him luck on this! Just keep the show going, Elon. Maybe it’s not too late to buy the popcorn stock.

Congress giving up on Gujarat already? The Grand Old Party casts aspersions on Election Commission ahead of state polls

As Election Commission announces dates for the upcoming state assembly elections in Gujarat, Congress has already started its attack on the institution. This move is straight from Congress’ toolkit of creating an air that independent institutions are compromised right before elections so that when they lose, they have someone, anyone to blame except their own leadership.

On Thursday, when it was announced that the Election Commission will announce dates for Gujarat elections, Congress official Twitter account put up the tweet mocking the EC and sarcastically said how they thought the institutions are supposed to be independent.

Congress tweeted, “Election Commission of India is an independent institution. It conducts unbiased elections.” This was followed by three emojis of a monkey with hands on eyes, ears and mouth.

The tweet is being seen as a sign of things to come where usual trope like EVM hacking, VVPAT malfunctioning and conspiracy theories that have been debunked multiple times over past nine years now will be made. In elections where BJP is expected to win or have won, we’ve seen earlier seen opposition parties cry ‘EVMs are hacked’ or ‘EC is not unbiased’, including parties like AAP where their MLA even tried to ‘prove’ EVMs are hacked in Vidhan Sabha using a toy machine.

Amusingly, the Election Commission is not biased with Congress won in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and EVMs are not hacked when AAP won Delhi and Punjab. All these theories float only when the BJP is much likely to win like clockwork. The stakes and theories will intensify as we get closer to 2024 general elections.

For the record, Congress has been in power for most of the 75 years India has been an independent country. The trends have changed only in past few years when people of India chose others. Which is when Congress and other opposition parties started crying foul. Amusingly, Jawaharlal Nehru has been prime minister of India for almost 17 years and was elected as a Lok Sabha MP from Phulpur thrice. His daughter, Indira Gandhi, has been PM of India thrice, of which she was elected as Lok Sabha MP three times as well, two times from Rae Bareli and once from Medak. Sanjay Gandhi was an MP from Amethi once, before he died in plane crash. Rajiv Gandhi has been an MP twice from Amethi. Sonia Gandhi has won five elections starting from 1999 and Rahul Gandhi has won four elections. The Election Commission was perfectly independent and unbiased all these times.

The grapes, dear readers, are sour and if Congress continues this way, soon they’d be left with no grapes to whine about either.

Pakistan: Statue of symbolic warrior woman vandalized in Islamabad

0

According to Dawn, unknown individuals allegedly vandalized a statue of a symbolic warrior woman that was installed in the Kachnar Park of Islamabad, Pakistan. The issue was brought to light on Wednesday morning by park visitors who also manage a Facebook page called ‘Friends of Kachnar Park.’

Twitter user Tahir Malik shared about the incident in a tweet. He wrote, “Shameful act of Vandalism in Kachnar Park,1 /8 Islamabad this excellent sculpture has been vandalized. The sculpture was presented by a great artist in Islamabad whose art is exhibited at public places.”

The monument was supposedly destroyed by someone at night and was in a good condition until Tuesday, according to Malik, who spoke to Dawn. Although the Capital Development Authority (CDA) claimed that the monument had fallen, he said that it could not be ruled out because other vandalism incidents had recently been reported in several other parts of the nation.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s statue was damaged in Lohore in December 2020

A nine-foot-tall statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Lahore, Pakistan, was vandalized in December 2020. The statue, which was located outside the Haveli of Rani Jindan Kaur, wife of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, at Lahore Fort, was vandalized on December 11 by a person identified as Zaheer Ishaq. After breaking the left arm of the monument, Ishaq was apprehended on the scene by a security guard.

Zaheer Ishaq said that Ranjeet Singh had killed several Muslims and harmed the sentiments of the Muslim community, which is why he damaged the statue. The culprit, who was said to be a staunch follower of the late Maulana Khadim Hussain Rizvi, was reportedly opposed to the placing of statue of the brave Sikh king at Lahore fort because he had converted the Badshahi mosque into a horse stable.

Idol worship is Haram in Islam

Worship of Idols and celebrating personalities through statues is considered Haram in Islam. The Quran states that idolatry is a grave sin, a violation of the first commandment in all of God’s teachings, and an impenitent sin if continued until death.

Surah 31 verse 13 says, And remember when Luqmân said to his son, while advising him, “O my dear son! Never associate anything with Allah in worship, for associating others with Him is truly the worst of all wrongs.”

Islam’s intolerance toward idol worship was most visible in the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas, the famed 6th-century massive sculptures of Gautama Buddha carved into the side of a cliff in central Afghanistan’s Bamyan valley. It was by far the most barbaric attack on Afghanistan’s historical and cultural legacy by the Taliban, eliciting harsh condemnation from nations around the world.

The world’s largest standing Buddha statues had survived for a millennium and a half—until the Islamists of the Taliban ordered their destruction. On 27 February 2001, Talibani leader Mullah Muhammad Omar, issued a decree ordering the elimination of all non-Islamic statues and sanctuaries in Afghanistan.

Bangladesh accuses Virat Kohli of ‘fake fielding’ and influencing umpires in India’s tense victory in T20 World Cup

On Wednesday, November 2, after India defeated Bangladesh by 5 runs in a Super 12s match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan complained that the on-field umpires had overlooked an instance of “fake fielding” by Virat Kohli, which could have given Bangladesh five potentially significant penalty runs.

After the game, Nurul spoke with the media and brought up the issue. Hasan said that the run chase was hampered by the wet field and that Kohli’s deceptive throw went overshadowed on the day. “Certainly, the field was wet and it had an impact and everyone saw that and eventually, what I felt is that when we were talking there was a fake throw and it could have been a five-run penalty and that could have gone our way, but unfortunately, even that didn’t come,” said Hasan.

In the seventh over of Bangladesh’s batting at Adelaide Oval, Litton Das played the ball off Axar Patel in the direction of the deep off-side field. Arshdeep Singh threw the ball, and Kohli, who was positioned at the point, seemed to be catching it and throwing it on the stumps. However, as visible in the camera recording, the ball did not reach the hands of Kohli.

The on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Chris Brown didn’t do anything about it at the time, and neither did the Bangladesh batsmen. Though it seems that it was a deception by Kohli, there is a possibility that Kohli missed the ball but acted in reflex to throw it at the stumps, without realizing that the ball was not in his hands.

Unfair play is prohibited under Law 41.5 of the ICC, which forbids “deliberate distraction, deception, or obstruction of [the] batter.” The umpire has the authority to declare a dead ball and award the batting team five runs if they feel that something happened that was against the rules.

The umpiring in the match was also in the spotlight when Kohli was batting in the 16th over. When Kohli top-edged a pull towards square leg in the 16th over of India’s batting, he signalled a no-ball to umpire Erasmus because he thought Hasan Mahmud of Bangladesh had bowled two bouncers in that over. It was requested due to the height of the ball.

Erasmus ruled it a no-ball and found himself between Kohli and Shakib Al Hasan, who had emerged from the covers. The two players hugged one other and went away after around 90 seconds of discussion. When Kohli was pursuing in the India-Pakistan match, umpires issued a similar no-ball. That ball was a full toss above the waist. There was a similar argument from the Pakistani team over the no-ball.

India and Bangladesh played a thrilling Super 12s encounter in Adelaide, with the Indian team winning in the final over. India had scored 184 runs in 20 overs, led by fifties from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Litton Das took the Indian bowlers to the hammer as Bangladesh got off to a flying start in chase of the score. However, due to rain, the aim was reduced to 151 runs.

Virat Kohli’s brilliance was on display once again in this T20 tournament, as the Indian star blasted another unbeaten half-century to lead India to victory.

As AAP blames the Centre for pollution, here is how Kejriwal cannot escape the responsibilities

On November 3, the Air Quality Index of Delhi NCR ranged between 400 to 900, that fall under the hazardous category. Amid National Capital being turned into a gas chamber, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders have been doing pressers after presser blaming the central government and neighbouring states for the problem.

However, the Centre’s panels on air pollution said in its assessment that the AAP-led Punjab Government took negligible steps to control stubble burning. The Centre pointed out the bio-decomposers’ field experiments were successful in UP, Haryana and Delhi. No efforts were made in Punjab by the state government to employ the technique for stubble management.

Furthermore, while Haryana and Uttar Pradesh opted for bio-decomposer usage across 5,00,000 acres and 138,000 acres, respectively, Punjab used it only in 7,500 acres. Nurture Farms used another bio decomposer in another 250,000 acres in the state through a CSR initiative.

The panel added that not only bio-decomposer but also the government failed to deploy residue management machines effectively. There was inadequate implementation of public sensitisation over the matter. The Centre might take up the matter with Punjab Government soon.

Spike in stubble burning incidents in Punjab

As per the data available, the stubble-burning incidents increased by 33.5% between September 15 and November 1 compared to last year. Last year there were 15,065 incidents reported. In 2022, 17,846 such incidents were reported. According to ET, in 2021, 1796 incidents of stubble burning were reported on November 1. In 2022, it increased to 1,846 incidents. Notably, 40% of the crop in Punjab has not been harvested yet, and more such incidents are expected to get recorded in the coming weeks.

Data suggests that 70% of the farm fires were reported in Amritsar, Sangrur, Firozpur, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Patiala and Tarn Taran districts. These districts were red-flagged in 2021 as well.

Haryana and UP recorded a decline in stubble-burning incidents

Data shows that Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are working extensively to reduce stubble-burning incidents. In 2021, Haryana reported 3,038 stubble-burning incidents. However, this year only 2,083 such incidents were reported marking a decline of 24%. In UP’s region around NCR, 53 stubble-burning incidents were reported in 2021, which has been reduced to 33 this year.

AAP blamed the Centre for not funding cash incentives

Notably, the AAP-led Punjab government had approached the Centre to fund the cash incentives for farmers (for not burning stubble) that were rejected. As a result, the AAP government has put the blame on the Centre for turning Delhi into a gas chamber. Contrary to the AAP’s allegations, the Centre’s assessment of the situation exposed the ineffectiveness of the Punjab government in deploying 120,000 crop residue machines available at the state’s disposal.

The Centre added that the monitoring and enforcement of the stubble management techniques at the field level were missing in Punjab. Notably, the Centre has sent Rs 1,347 crores to Punjab in the last five financial years, including 2022-23, to reduce stubble-burning incidents. However, instead of using the resources effectively, the Punjab government is not blaming the Centre and neighbouring states for its own mess.

BJP leader Kapil Mishra recreates Shankar Mahadevan’s ‘Breathless’ song to highlight pollution in Delhi due to a ‘useless CM’. Listen to the song

0

BJP leader Kapil Mishra on Thursday dropped a single, ‘Breathless Delhi Useless CM’ where he recreated Shankar Mahadevan’s iconic song ‘Breathless’ and highlighted the woe of residents of Delhi-NCR owing to pollution caused mainly due to stubble burning by farmers mostly in Punjab.

In a tweet, Mishra exposes the apathy of Delhi government as well as Punjab government to control the stubble burning fires which lead to intense pollution over the northern India, particularly the national capital region. The air quality here has reached hazardous levels and residents are already facing various health related difficulties. While Delhi government had banned bursting of Diwali crackers claiming it adds to pollution, considering the level of air pollution here, it is clear beyond doubt that the firecrackers are not the major contributors as pollutants. The farmers, especially in Punjab, where Aam Aadmi Party is in power, continue to burn the stubble unabashedly in absence of strict measures by the state government.
