Financial fraud accused WaPo columnist mocks a Hindu man being shamed for consuming milk by a vegan ‘activist’

0

Financial fraud accused Washington Post columnist Rana Ayyub on Tuesday mocked a Hindu man who was being shamed by a seemingly vegan ‘activist’ in London for consuming cow’s milk, especially because his religious beliefs consider cow holy.

Rana Ayyub has now deleted the tweet.

Rana Ayyub’s now deleted tweet

Here is the full video that ‘cracked up’ Ayyub.

In the clip, a white man, who appears to be some sort of vegan ‘activist’ is asking an Indian man if he is a Hindu and if he worships cows. He then mentions how in the dairy industry in the UK, calves are separated from the cows for the milk and how cows are also slaughtered for beef. He then shames the Hindu man that as a Hindu man when he goes to a supermarket to buy dairy, he is financing these ‘horrible things’ which are happening to the cows the Hindu man worships as holy.

The Hindu man then argues that milk is source of calcium, to which the white man gives plant-based ‘milk’ options. The Hindu man says that while he consumes eggs too, he does his bit for animals by not consuming meat. When needled further by the ‘activist’, the Hindu man says that if there is an option of ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence/cruelty) based milk, he would opt for it, but refused to opt for plant-based ‘milk’. The ‘activist’ then further mocks the Hindu man by asking if there are magical properties in milk which he is unaware of since he himself is ‘vegan’ and does not seem to be missing out on anything.

To that, the Hindu man, very politely, pointed out that it is a personal preference of his. However, after nagging further, the clip ends with the ‘activist’ reiterating how the Hindu man worships cows but still ‘harms’ them.

This exchange, apparently, ‘cracked up’ Rana Ayyub.

To put things in perspective, beef and cow jibes are often used by Islamists in India and around to mock Hindus and as a political tool because they worship the cows. Islamists including terrorists have often used the ‘gaumutra’ and ‘cow’ jibe to mock Hindus and even before carrying out terror attacks in India. That Ayyub finds a white man heckling a Hindu man specifically for his religion and his considering cow holy certainly says a lot about her.

Canteen employee climbs a pipe duct and films IIT Bombay student in hostel bathroom, arrested

0

Days after the Chandigarh University video leak scandal took the country by storm, another similar incident has come to the fore from IIT Bombay. A canteen worker of the prestigious institute has been arrested for filming a girl student while she was in the hostel washroom.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday, September 18. According to reports, the student in question spotted a mobile phone looming outside the bathroom window. She immediately alerted her friends and the hostel council about it. The varsity dean and student affairs dean visited the premises, however owing to broken cameras, CCTV video from outside the hostel building could not be checked.

They, however, informed the Powai Police Station officials about the incident, who immediately reached the institute and interrogated five staff members who run the night canteen from 3:30 pm to 3 am. After questioning, the police arrested one of them under IPC Section 354-C (voyeurism).

Speaking on the matter, the institute said that the canteen employee, working on the night shift, climed a duct pipe and tried to “violate the personal space of women residents of a hostel”. He was caught by the hostel residents and handed over to the police.

In a statement issued soon after, the institute said, “The investigation, including cyber investigation, is being carried out by the Mumbai police. The institute, as per the initial report, is not aware of any footage being shared from the phone confiscated from the culprit.”

“The canteen has been shut down immediately and will reopen only if staffed exclusively by women. Gaps in the ducts, which may have been used by the suspects, have been closed. We are in discussions with the students to see what other additional steps we can take. IIT Bombay stands with its students and we will do everything in our capacity to ensure the safety and security of our students,” it added.

This incident has come on the heels of the MMS incident at Chandigarh University wherein a student allegedly filmed her hostel mates changing clothes and taking showers.

On September 17, a private university named Chandigarh University, located in Mohali, Punjab, saw a massive protest by students after it was revealed that a female student allegedly filmed 60+ female students in the hostel while they were bathing and sent the videos to a person in Shimla.

Uttar Pradesh: After madarsas, CM Yogi Adityanath orders investigation of all Waqf properties within a month

0

Amidst the ongoing survey of unrecognized madarsas in the state of Uttar Pradesh, CM Yogi Adityanath has issued an order directing the district administrations to survey the Waqf properties as well. The government has asked the district administrations to conduct the survey and submit the relevant report within a month.

According to the reports, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has ordered the officers to scrutinize and demarcate the Waqf properties in the revenue records. The government has also canceled the 1989 mandate of the Revenue Department in this regard. This came after several properties have illegally been occupied by the Waqf Boards.

Shakeel Ahmed Siddiqui, deputy secretary, UP government, issued letters to Commissioners and District Magistrates asking them to investigate such properties. The letter stated that several Waqf authorities had neglected the regulations regarding property registration as per the Waqf Act 1995 and the UP Muslim Waqf Act of 1960. In 1989, an order was also issued to properly register such properties in revenue records.

As per the 1989 order, these properties are mostly registered under Banjar, Usar, and Bhita categories. In the revenue records, these lands must be correctly registered and demarcated. According to government instructions, Gramsabha and municipal councils have public properties and are required by law to use these assets for the benefit of the general populace. Changes to the management and nature of these areas are prohibited under the 1989 order.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed all the authorities in UP’s districts to complete the survey and submit the report within a month. Reportedly, the government intends to stop the illegal possession and sale of the Waqf property. According to the order issued by the government on September 19, Shia and Sunni Waqf Boards will be investigated in all the districts of the state in UP.

To note, recently the dispute regarding the Waqf Act being above Indian laws has invited a lot of controversies. Reports mention that Waqf boards have the largest land holding in the country after the Indian armed forces and the Indian Railways.

Bengaluru: Fiancee along with her friends kills Chennai-based doctor after he shares her private videos on social media, arrested

0

On Monday, September 19, Bengaluru police said they arrested a 25-year-old female architect and two of her male friends on charges of murdering her live-in partner. The police revealed that the main accused killed the Chennai-based doctor in Bengaluru after the latter allegedly shared her intimate video on social media.

The deceased doctor had also released his fiancee’s mother’s video, said the police.

The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Dr Vikas and the accused have been identified as his fiance 25-year-old Pratibha, her friend Susheel and Gowtham. Pratibha is a resident of Mico Layout in Bengaluru. Another accused in the case, Surya, is absconding.

The incident took place within the limits of the Begur police station of Bengaluru.

The victim, Dr N Vikas, was working as a doctor at a private hospital in the city after finishing his MBBS in Ukraine, according to the authorities. He earlier worked in Chennai before moving to Bengaluru to complete a certification degree.

According to reports, Vikas met Pratibha through social media two years ago and fell in love. They agreed to get married in November.

Vikas and Prathibha rented a property near Udupi Garden and began living there together a year ago. Their families were aware that they were in a live-in relationship and had decided to marry, according to the police.

According to the police, Prathibha recently discovered images of herself and her mother on Facebook and learned that they had been uploaded by Vikas using a false ID.

According to the police, the couple fought over the issue on September 10. Hurt with the entire development, Prathibha informed her friends about the incident.

After receiving the information, Pratibha’s friends immediately showed up at the couple’s residence on the same day, and intense arguments ensued between them.

“The accused hit Vikas using a floor mop stick and bottles. As Vikas fell unconscious, he was shifted to Jayashree hospital and the doctors suggested shifting him to St John’s Medical College and Hospital for further treatment where he succumbed to death,” a Begur police official said.

Prathibha lied to the hospital about Vikas being injured in a fight with her friends about trivial issues. Prathibha then called Vikas’s older brother Vijay and told him the same story she told the doctors.

On September 14, Vikas succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in the hospital. Vijay later filed a complaint with the Begur police.

‘Will certainly look into it’: Aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s alleged deplaning from flight in Germany for being drunk

0

Following the controversy surrounding Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s deplaning from a Lufthansa flight on Saturday night in Frankfurt, Germany, civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated on Tuesday that he will investigate the issue.

When confronted by reporters requesting his views on deplaning of Bhagwant Mann, Scindia stated, “This was on international soil. We’ll have to make sure we verify the facts. It is up to Lufthansa to provide data. I’ll certainly, based on the request sent to me, look into it.”

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann returned to India on Sunday after an eight-day long visit to Germany. There were reports that Mann was deplaned from his return flight to India for being drunk, leading to his flight getting delayed.

Notably, CM Mann has been allegedly found inebriated on multiple occasions. According to accounts, after becoming Chief Minister of Punjab, he visited places such as the Gurudwara Damdama Sahib while being in an inebriated state. Mann has been accused of even attending Parliament sessions when he was a Member of Parliament.

In 2015, former AAP leader Yogendra Yadav alleged that Mann had attended Parliament sessions while being under the influence. In October of the same year, former Granthi of Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, allegedly noticed that Mann was drunk. He was attending the Bhog ceremony of the Faridkot firing victims. Mann was asked to leave the stage, and the incident caused the party embarrassment at the national level.

In 2016, AAP leader Harinder Singh Khalsa accused Mann of being drunk in the house of parliament. He wrote to then-Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan and stated it was “torturous” to sit next to Mann, who “reeks of liquor.”

Bhagwant Mann swore not to drink again in January 2019. Arvind Kejriwal, the chairman of AAP, described it as a “great sacrifice for the people.” Mann, the MP from Sangrur at the time, had come under fire for his drinking habits. Though Mann’s commitment was supposed to be honoured, things supposedly did not go that way.

Accused men blackmailed Chandigarh University girl student to record and share private video of hostel inmates: Report

0

Some shocking details have emerged in the Chandigarh University video leak case, wherein a student allegedly filmed her hostel mates changing clothes and taking showers. Media reports have quoted sources as revealing that the two arrested accused, Sunny Mehta and his friend Rankaj Verma had allegedly blackmailed and pressurised the accused girl student to make and share private videos of other hostel inmates.

As per reports, WhatsApp chats have revealed that both the accused Sunny Mehta and Rankaj Verma had threatened to make the accused girl student’s private videos viral unless she filmed and shared videos of hostel inmates changing clothes and taking showers in the common washroom.

India TV report also quoted one of the protesting students of Chandigarh University as saying that some chats between the accused girl and the accused men revealed that she was getting blackmailed by them.

A report by Mirror Now has claimed that the role of a third youth is also under the scanner.

While an SIT team has been probing the case, the varsity has also set up an internal inquiry committee, that includes three student representatives and 6 professors, to probe the case.

Chandigarh University video leak case accused taken to their hometowns in Himachal to recover pen drives and data

Meanwhile, in another development in the case, the two accused, Sunny Mehta and Rankaj Verma, have been taken by the police to their hometowns in Himachal to recover pen drives, computers and other devices. The authorities suspect that images and videos were also kept on the other devices.

Video of another girl found on accused’s phone, all 3 accused sent on 7-day police remand

OpIndia reported yesterday (September 19, Monday) that the accused’s lawyer, Sandeep Sharma, had confirmed to the media that two videos had been found in the mobiles of the accused that will now be sent for a forensic probe. One video is that of the accused girl while the other one is of some other girl.

Notably, the Mohali Police and the Chandigarh university had maintained that the accused girl shared videos only of herself, and they did not find videos of any other girl on her mobile in the preliminary investigation.

All the three arrested accused, which include two men and one female student from the college itself, have been sent to 7-day police remand. Additionally, Chandigarh University officials have suspended two hostel wardens, including one who can be seen in one of the videos.

On September 18, the third accused in the Chandigarh University video leak case was detained from Shimla. The 31-year-old man was the third accused held by the Police from Himachal Pradesh. Earlier, the accused female student of the University and a 23-year-old man from Shimla were arrested by the Police.

The Chandigarh university video leak case

On September 17, a private university named Chandigarh University, located in Mohali, Punjab, saw a massive protest by students after it was revealed that a female student allegedly filmed 60+ female students in the hostel while they were bathing and sent the videos to a person in Shimla. The reports related to the incident started making headlines the following day with information about rumoured suicide attempts by at least eight female students of the University, out of which one was said to be dead.

The college authorities and the police have denied the reports of suicide attempts.

RSS worker Sreenivasan’s murder in Kerala: PFI leader Aboobaker arrested, 26 others nabbed so far

On Monday (September 19), the police arrested a Popular Front of India (PFI) leader for the gruesome murder of a 45-year-old RSS leader named SK Sreenivasan in the Palakkad district of Kerala.

As per reports, the accused was identified as Aboobaker Siddik. According to the preliminary investigation, the accused was the mastermind of the dastardly attack on the deceased RSS leader.

He had also prepared a list, along with other PFI members, to carry out targeted retaliatory attacks against members of BJP/RSS, and CPI (M) leaders. It must be mentioned that Aboobaker Siddik was the District Secretary (Palakkad district) of the radical Islamist outfit.

In this defence, the Popular Front of India claimed that the arrests were a part of the CPI(M) agenda to harass its workers. So far, the Palakkad police have arrested 27 people in connection to Sreenivasan’s murder and filed charge sheet against 26 people.

Over 20 of the accused are associated with PFI or its political wing SDPI (Social Democratic Party of India). On April 16, 2022, Sreenivasan was killed inside his shop in the Melamuri area of Palakkad with sharp weapons. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers were armed with machetes and attacked him several times, inflicting multiple fatal injuries.

He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Sreenivasan is survived by his wife and a daughter.

In December last year, the workers of the Social Democratic Party of India (the political wing of the PFI) murdered BJP leader Ranjith Sreenivasan in the Alappuzha district of Kerala. The perpetrators broke into Sreenivasan’s house in the wee hours on December 19 and hacked him to death.

On November 15, 2021, a 26-year-old RSS worker A Sanjith was also hacked to death by the SDPI goons. Sanjith, a native of Elappully was killed while he was going to work on his motorcycle with his wife.

The Wire quotes terror sympathiser Majid Freeman, who dog-whistled against Hindus in Leicester, to demonize Hindus

0

Days after the violence erupted in the city of Leicester, England, where Islamists assaulted Hindus and vandalized their properties, the Wire published an article on Monday blaming the Hindu community for the violence. In the article, it said that people chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ created a disturbance in the city on September 17 and ‘threw bottles and all sorts’ at the Islamists.

The Wire happened to quote several Islamist eye-witnesses who claimed that the initial disturbance in the area began after the Hindus allegedly gathered in the city and attacked the Muslims on the streets. It quoted Rukhsana Hussain, an alleged community leader who was also quoted by the Guardian and the BBC saying that people chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ were masked when they allegedly attacked the Islamists on east Leicester street.

The publication also referred to the video tweet by Hinduphobic professor Ashok Swain who claimed that “Hindu far-right groups shouted ‘Jai Sri Ram’ and launched an attack on the Muslims in east Leicester”. The incident is said to have happened on September 17 when hundreds of Hindus crowded the streets in the city’s eastern section demanding action against the initial violence by Islamists. The saga began after the Asia Cup India-Pakistan cricket match on August 28, when armed Islamists attacked Hindus and their residences in the area.

The Hindus then marched in a peaceful protest against the Islamist attack and demanded justice. However, the violence in the city erupted after the Islamists disrupted the protest march and hurled glass bottles at the Hindu participants. They also desecrated a Saffron flag left behind by the protesters in presence of the police. The Police also released a statement calling the protest an ‘unplanned’ one.

The Wire however alleged on September 18 that the violence was due to the Hindus in the area. It went on to peddle a false narrative about the Leicester violence claiming that it was ‘RSS goons’ and ‘Hindutvavadis’ who attacked the marginalized Muslim community of Leicester. To bolster the claim, it further quoted Majid Freeman, a local ‘activist’ who is known for his problematic and extremist Islamic views.

“They (Hindus) were throwing bottles and all sorts. They were coming past our mosques, taunting the community and physically beating people up randomly”, Majid Freeman was quoted by the leftist British media outlet The Guardian and The Wire. Freeman who stays at the Belgrave Road in the eastern part of Leicester further confirmed his claims by retweeting the article published by the Wire.

The Wire article retweeted by Majid Freeman

As reported earlier, Majid was at the forefront of spreading fake news that instigated violence against Hindus in Leicester. The violence began after India defeated Pakistan in a T20 match. The Islamists snatched the Indian flag and desecrated it. Later in September, violence against Hindus started with mobs hunting them down in their houses and on the streets.

However, Majid Freeman, the local Islamist ‘activist’ added fuel to the fire against Hindus by spreading fake news against Hindus. He claimed that Hindus had chanted ‘death to Muslims’ slogans and also desecrated a Quran in Leicester. He influenced several Islamist organisations and made them believe that Hindus were deliberately targeting the Muslim community in the city.

Majid Freeman said that the Hindus were targeting the Islamists from the month of May. In another such incident, he claimed that around 30 Hindus had chased and assaulted a Muslim teenager. OpIndia verified all the claims made by Freeman and found them to be false. Insight UK talked to OpIndia to confirm that no complaints were filed by the police and no video evidence was submitted for investigation in either of the cases.

One dangerous lie spread by Freeman recently was that Hindus had abducted a Muslim school-going girl. However, he admitted that he had spread fake news only after the Leicester police on September 14 confirmed that no such incident had happened. By all his fake tweets, Freeman kept on feeding Hinduphobic poison into the minds of Islamists which led to severe violence against Hindus on September 17.

On September 17, several Hindus and their homes were attacked in Leicester. A temple was also desecrated and the Om flag there was also burnt. Majid, on the 17th of September, justified the violence by the Muslims against Hindus calling it the community ‘standing up for themselves’ because the Hindu community ‘broke peace’ by marching past a mosque and chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’.

Majid Freeman who claims to be an ‘activist’ in Leicester city in the midlands of England, is a radical Islamist whose publicly available information establishes his connection with several Islamic terrorist organizations. Freeman is known to have sympathy for several terrorists like Aafia Siddiqui, Oliver Bridgeman (an ISIS terrorist), and several other terrorist organizations including Al Qaeda.

‘News organisations’ like the Wire and the Guardian quoted Majid Freeman as an eyewitness of the Leicester violence but failed to publish his problematic views. They also failed to expose him for spreading fake news against Hindus in the city and instigating the Islamists to target Hindus. They termed him as a mere ‘activist’ but to know Majid Freeman’s real face, one must read this exclusive story published by OpIndia.

DPS MMS Scandal: India’s first MMS scandal where a video of 2 students was sold online

The Chandigarh University video leak case has stirred the MMS controversies again. Since 2004, India has witnessed numerous MMS scandals. It is a grim reminder of how the internet can be misused to the extent it can ruin people’s lives.

It was December 9, 2004, when the nation was first introduced to the phrase ‘MMS Scandal.’ A 2-minute 37 seconds long video was being sold on a website of two students of Delhi Public School (DPS) RK Puram. The report was exclusively covered by journalist Anupam Thapa a tabloid named TODAY (owned by India Today). In his report, Thapa alleged that a website named Baazee.com was selling pornographic clips of students from DPS. The report read, “India’s biggest online trading portal baazee.com had listed the said MMS clip under the title ‘DPS girls having fun’ with the member ID of 27877408.”

At that time, Baazee.com was a famous website for selling products online. Though India was still getting in sync with the online world, the reports of MMS clips being sold online went viral instantly. The clip was pixelated and grainy in nature, and it was obvious that the person who recorded the clip used a low-resolution camera phone. It was also evident that the girl who was being recorded was possibly unaware that the boy was recording the sexual act. Both the students were of Class XI at that time.

According to the case details in Avnish Bajaj versus State, the clip was being sold for Rs 125 over the website baazee.com. Avnish Bajaj was the owner of Baazee.com India Private Limited (‘bipl’), which was a wholly owned subsidiary of Ebay Inc. USA, and the owner of the website http://www.baazee.com. The company was later renamed eBay India Private Limited (EIPL).

How the clip went viral online and offline

A fourth-year student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, identified as Ravi Raj, was behind the initial sale of the clip. He had placed it on the auction website on November 27, 2004, at a price of Rs 125 per piece. He was using the name of Alice Electronics with an address of Kharagpur.

To avoid detection by the baazee.com filters, he had placed it under the category Books and Magazines and sub-category ‘e-books.’ Though the words’ sex’ and ‘sexual’ were part of the ‘suspected words’ list, the listing passed the system and went live with the description “Item 27877408 – DPS Girls having fun!!! full video + Baazee points”.

How baazee.com failed to detect the nature of the clip

As per the court documents, there was a system in place that informed the website’s moderators about a new listing. The moderators, who were on the company’s payroll, were supposed to call the user and confirm the listing. However, this was only for the new sellers. The old sellers could list the products without getting a call from the moderators. In the case of old sellers, there was a system in place that would check the information of the item and approve or disapprove based on the meta-data provided by the seller. In this case, Ravi managed to fool the automated system.

On November 27, 2004, Community Watch member Amit Vohra sent an email to baazee.com titled “fraud report about item ID 27877408”. In his email, Vohra informed baazee.com that the product that was listed on the website was a pornographic video which was illegal in India. Also, the persons shown in the video were below the legal age of 18, making it a serious offence. He wrote, “You need to sort this issue, and you should even report it to the legal authorities as this can get your site in trouble.”

The email was marked to BIPL official Namrata on the same day. On the next day, i.e., on November 28, 2004, the email was assigned to Swapna Sawant and was marked to the ‘high alert’ category. On November 29, 2004, baazee.com delisted the video and sent an email to the seller saying, “The listings put up on site by you are either obscene or pornographic in nature.” It was further informed that the listed item was removed as per the User Agreement.

A letter was sent to Amit Vohra as well, thanking him for the email reporting the item in question. However, eight transactions were made so far from cities, including Calcutta, Nellore, Pune, Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai.

On December 9, 2004, the Crime Branch of Delhi police received credible information about the sale on the auction website and registered FIR in the matter. On the same day, the report in TODAY was published with the title “DPS sex video at baazee.com.” The report read, “India’s biggest online trading portal baazee.com had listed the said MMS clip under the title ‘DPS girls having fun’ with the member ID of 27877408. The Police, upon investigation, learned that one Alice Electronics of Kharagpur West Bengal had since November 27, 2004, sold eight copies of the said MMS clip.”

A Notice under Section 91 CrPC was sent to Sharat Digumarti, the Senior Manager, Trust, and Safety, BIPL, also an accused in the matter, to obtain information about the seller. The information was provided to the Police the next day by baazee.com. Digumarti, in reply to the notice, said that the listing was disabled immediately once they received the information about it.

In the investigation report, the Police said that the three accused, Avnish Bajaj, Ravi Raj, and Sharat Digumarti were aware of the nature of the video and went ahead with the sale. A charge sheet against them was prepared under Sections 292 and 294 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 of the IT Act.

The matter is still sub-judice.

Some reports suggest that the two students who were in the video were suspended from the school. The girl was sent to London, and the boy was sent to Australia by his parents. Their whereabouts are unknown. Since the MMS went viral on the internet, the way, the people of India and the law look at pornography changed.

The MMS scandal was also picked up by Bollywood and the TV industry. Movies including Dev D, Love Sex aur Dhoka, Ragini MMS, and I Don’t Luv You are some of the films that have incidents loosely based on the DPS MMS scandal. The crime series ‘Gumrah: End of Innocence’ also featured an episode on the incident.

It is impossible to remove something from the internet completely

Since the DPS MMS, several MMS scandals surfaced on the internet, but none of them sensationalized the country the way the DPS matter did. When the MMS was first released, the number of internet users in India was very limited. Those who are aware of the matter know that the clip was sold in CDs for a price ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 250, depending on the locality. Even in remote areas, people were able to get their hands on the clip as the matter had made it to the headlines.

At that time, there were some adult forums that shared the clip widely. Though the Police and law attempted to remove the clip from the majority of the famous porn websites, and it is now hard to find the clip on the “popular” porn websites, experts believe that the clip might still be available on low-ranking porn websites. The DPS case is a classic and sad yet perfect example of the fact that once something gets available on the internet, it remains on the internet forever.

Please note that downloading, sending, selling and purchase of porn in India is illegal and punishable as per the law.

‘Hijab distinguishes Muslim women from others so molesters can spare them’: Lawyer for hijabs in school had cited Quranic verse, old tweet surfaces

Amidst the Supreme Court hearing in the wrangling hijab row, an old tweet posted by Nizam Pasha, one of the advocates arguing for hijabs in state-run schools, has gone viral on the internet. In his tweet, Pasha has cited Quranic verse to say how hijab helps molesters to distinguish Muslim women so they can be spared.

Citing Quran 33:59, Pasha, who had posted the tweet in February 2022, said Muslim women should wear hijabs so that they can be identified as Muslims and not be harassed.

“Holy Quran 33:59 explains why Muslim women should wear a hijab. “So that they can be recognised as Muslim and not be harassed.” The hijab is meant to tell people that this is a strong woman with a strong community standing behind her that you are taking on, so tread with caution,” Pasha had tweeted.

Nizam Pasha alleges HC misquoted Quran to uphold hijab ban

Earlier this month, Pasha submitted in the Supreme Court that the Karnataka High Court, which had upheld the hijab ban in government-run educational institutes, had misquoted the Holy Quran to pronounce that wearing hijab is not a mandatory practice in Islam.

Pasha submitted had that the High Court had referred to an unrelated verse, which stated that nobody can be compelled to convert to Islam, to hold that hijab was not mandatory. He further stated that the High Court had referred to the opinion of a translator of the Holy Quran and not the translation of the text itself. He claimed the verses cited in the High Court were concerning “jilbab”, which covers whole body as opposed to “Hijab” which only covered head and chest. He said that the translator had meant that “jilbab” was not mandatory and not hijab.

Earlier yesterday, Dushyant Dave, another advocate arguing in favour of hijab had made a slew of preposterous arguments during the plea(s) hearing challenging the order of Karnataka HC upholding the prohibition on wearing headscarves in Pre-University institutions.

From claiming Brahmins had hijacked India to designating Jains and Buddhists as outsiders to selectively quoting Dr BR Ambedkar, Advocate Dushyant Dave made a bunch of ludicrous arguments while representing the petitioners challenging the hijab ban upheld by the Karnataka High Court.

Karnataka hijab row

A major controversy erupted in Karnataka in January 2022 after a Udupi school prohibited hijab inside classrooms. Some Muslim girl students, supported by PFI had appealed against this in the Karnataka High Court. On February 25, the court reserved its decision on the case. Protests, allegations, and counter-allegations occurred in response to the hijab ban.

The Karnataka High Court declared on March 15 that wearing a headscarf does not constitute an essential Islamic practice as the petitioners failed to provide evidence in that regard. The Karnataka High Court dismissed all petitions contesting the hijab ban in Karnataka schools and decided that the rules for the uniform dress were fair and that students can not object to respective dress codes mandated by educational institutions.
