“YouTube has signed its own warrant”: Russia hints at banning YouTube after the platform blocks Russian Parliament’s channel Duma TV

As part of sanctions against Russia for the invasion on Ukraine, Google’s video sharing platform YouTube has blocked the official channel of Duma, the lower house of Russian parliament. According to Reuters, a message on YouTube said the Duma channel had been “terminated for a violation of YouTube’s Terms of Service”. A visit to the YouTube Channel Duma TV shows that the page is not available.

Duma TV on its website said that the channel had 145,000 subscribers, and the videos of then channel had over 100 million views. Apart from broadcasting sessions of the parliament, Duma TV also streamed comments by government officials and parliamentarians, and exclusive programs.

The channel said that they were already prepared for a possible blocking by YouTube, and has already readied alternate Channels on RuTube, VKontakte and Telegram.

Russian officials strongly objected to this decision by Alphabet Inc. Virtually threatening to ban YouTube in Russia, Foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “From the look of it, YouTube has signed its own warrant.” She advised Russian YouTube users to transfer their content to Russian platforms, indicating that YouTube may disappear from Russia soon. “Save content, transfer to Russian platforms. And hurry up,” she said on Telegram.

Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that YouTube’s move was further proof of violations of rights and freedom by the US govt. “The USA wants to obtain a monopoly on promoting information. We cannot let it happen,” the speaker said.

In the meanwhile, Russian telecommunications watchdog Roskomnadzor said that it has urged Google to restore the Duma TV channel. “The American IT company adheres to a pronounced anti-Russian position in the information war unleashed by the West against our country,” Roskomnadzor said.

The department also demanded to explain the reason for such restrictions.

The machine translation of the statement by Roskomnadzor reads as following:

Roskomnadzor demanded that the American company Google LLC, which owns the YouTube Internet service, immediately restore access to the Duma TV channel of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on video hosting and explain the reason for the introduction of such restrictions.

The State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation is a representative and legislative body of power in the Russian Federation, one of the chambers of the Parliament. The blocking of the YouTube channel of the state body, carried out by the administration of the video hosting, prevents the dissemination of information and free access to it.

The American IT company adheres to a pronounced anti-Russian position in the information war unleashed by the West against our country. Video hosting is a key platform for the spread of fakes, discriminating against official Russian sources of information.

Google said that it was committed to compliance with all applicable sanctions and trade compliance laws. “If we find that an account violates our Terms of Service, we take appropriate action. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation for any updates and changes,” the company told Reuters via email.

Russia has already blocked access to Meta owned platforms Facebook and Instagram calling it an extremist organisation.

Access to Twitter also has been restricted in the country. It also can be completely blocked, as the micro-blogging site has started limiting the reach of Russian government accounts. “We will not amplify or recommend government accounts belonging to states that limit access to free information and are engaged in armed interstate conflict — whether Twitter is blocked in that country or not,” Twitter said in a statement.

Gujarat High Court refuses anticipatory bail to Mahmood, who converted 37 families and 100 Hindus to Islam: All you need to know

On Monday (April 4), the Gujarat High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail petition of one Islamic preacher named Varyava Abdul Vahab Mahmood for converting 37 Hindu families and 100 Hindus to Islam in exchange for financial assistance, reported LawBeat.

Mahmood was allegedly facilitated in his nefarious conversion agenda by 5 other accused, namely, Shabbirbhai, Samadbhai, Abdul Aziz, Yusuf and Aiyub. He had sought anticipatory bail in connection to a First Information Report (FIR) registered against him on November 15 last year at Aamod Police Station in Bharuch city of Gujarat.

The matter came up for hearing before Justice BN Karia. He observed, “Prima facie from the record produced by the prosecution, it appears that the present appellant has attempted to convert directly or otherwise, any person from one religion to another by use of force or by allurement or by any fraudulent means nor any person abet such conversion.”

“Considering the material placed on record before this Court… this Court is not inclined to accept the prayer to release the appellant on anticipatory bail, as prayed for. Hence, this appeal deserves to be dismissed and accordingly, the same is dismissed,” Justice BN Karia ordered.

The Background of the Case

On November 15, 2021, a man named Pravinbhai Vasantbhai Vasava (converted to Salman Vasant Patel) filed a complaint with the Aamod police in Bharuch city against two people, namely, Shabbirbhai Bakerywala and Samadbhai Bakerywala.

He had accused the duo of converting him to Islam in 2018 and forcibly changing his name on the Aadhar card. Pravinbhai pointed out that the duo also converted another man named Ajitbhai Vasava to Islam by providing him financial assistance about 15 years ago. On conversion, Ajitbhai adopted the name ‘Abdul Aziz Patel.’

The trio then converted two others, namely, Mahendra Vasava (who became Yusuf) and Raman Vasava (who became Aiyub) in exchange for money. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against them under the Indian Penal Code Sections 120B, 153(B)(1)(c), 506(2) and Section 4 of Gujarat Freedom of Religion Act, 2003.

As per the FIR, the accused converted a total of 37 Hindu families and 100 Hindus by providing them monetary support. They also converted a house, built with government funds, into an Ibadatgaah (Islamic place of worship).

When Pravinbhai expressed his desire to re-convert to Hinduism, he was threatened with dire consequences on October 26 last year. Forced by circumstances and an immediate sense of danger, he had filed a case against the accused.

“Subsequently, the Investigating Officer filed a report seeking to add Sections 466, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC and Section 3(2)(5-A) of the Atrocities Act…Subsequently, on 16.12.2021, the offences under Section 4A of the Freedom of Religion Act and 84C of the Information Technology Act, 2002 are added in the FIR,” the court order had noted.

The Investigating Officer filed his affidavit dated 24.12.2021, inter alia, declaring that the appellant had facilitated financial assistance to the convertees and given religious sermons/takrirs demeaning Hindu religion,” it further added.

Accused Yusuf, Aiyub and others also created a Whatsapp group where they spewed vitriolic content against the Hindu community through videos, speeches, and chats.

Witnesses testified that Islamic preacher Varyava Abdul Vahab Mahmood, who had filed the appeal before the Gujarat High Court, had tried to lure people to Islam by gifting them air coolers, water coolers, lories, chatai (carpet) to perform Namaz, dresses, medicines, ration and cash.

On December 28 last year, a Special court had rejected the anticipatory bail application of Mahmood, following which he moved the High Court seeking relief. However, his petition was dismissed by the High Court based on prima-facie details of the case.

The ministry also clarified that there is no need separate registration for the booster dose. All beneficiaries are already registered on the COWIN portal.

More than 2.4 crore Precaution Doses have also been administered to Healthcare Workers, Frontline Workers and 60+ population group. 45% of 12 to 14 years age group have also received the first dose.

The ongoing free vaccination programme through Government Vaccination Centres for first and second dose to the eligible population as well as Precaution Dose to Healthcare Workers, Frontline Workers and 60+ population would continue and would be accelerated.

‘Our Nation threatened with Jihadi Civil war’: Sufi Islamic Board reacts after getting threat letter from Islamic org supporting PFI

The Sufi Islamic Board, which has been relentless in its efforts to expose the Popular Front of India (PFI), has said that it has been threatened with death for pursuing the radical Islamist outfit. PFI has been on the radar of several central agencies amidst suspicion of funding various anti-national activities in India.

The Sufi Islamic Board said that on April 7, 2022, at 11.15 pm it received a Tweet on its official Twitter Handle stating “For siding with Hindutva-Brahman supremacist fascism against Muslims i.e Hijabi Muslim school girls and Popular Front of India etc the @sufiboard exposed themselves as munafiq kaffirs”.

Along with this Tweet, some other Tweets were also tagged. In one of the tagged Tweets, there was a copy of a letter attached with the heading “Letter to the Popular Front of India. Disregard Bans and re-organise into a Revolutionary Army… in the coming civil war”.

Today (April 9, Saturday), the Sufi Islamic Board took to its official Twitter account to share a copy of the aforementioned letter. “@PFIOfficial nexus with International Jihadi Terrorist Exposed. In his letter written to #PFI@almass3ari writes thet if @sufiboard does not protect the Indian Muslim’s they should be treated as Kafirs and delt Militarily. #BanPFI@HMOIndia@NIA_India@ANI”, Tweeted Sufi Islamic Board while sharing eth copy of the letter.

The Sufi Islamic Board said that the letter by The Party of Islamic Renewal read that “Jihad against the Indian regime is the right of all Muslims on Earth and it is positive to see Muslims in India mobilising under The Popular Front of India. The letter continued, “ as such, Muslims in India have the Islamically legitimate right to carry out insurgency, sabotage and espionage against the officials of the Indian regime involved in the oppression and as well as soldiers and Police officers enforcing oppression.”

The letter by the Islamic organisation was written in support of PFI, threatening the Sufi Islamic Board after it has been running a campaign to get PFI banned.

In the letter, which was clearly reeking anti-government, anti-India, and anti-Hindu sentiments, the Islamist organization also said that already the “Sufi Islamic board (Shaukat Ali) has criticized Popular Front of India for radicalizing the Muslims. No, it is the fascist BJP / RSS Hindutva Brahmin supremacist policies that are alienating the Muslims and if groups like the Sufi Islamic board do not fall in line behind the project to protect the Muslims of India from prosecution and potential genocide they should be dismissed as munafiq (hypocrites)/ Kafir (non Muslims) which the treacherous Shaukat Ali (Advisor, International Affairs, Sufi Islamic Board) has clearly shown to be”.

Quoting verses from the Quran, the letter in support of PFI further stated that if war breaks out, and they aid the enemies of Islam and Muslims, either militarily or through propaganda, they can be treated as harbi (the military forces of a nation), munafiq (hypocrite) or kaffir (non-Muslim) forces and engaged militarily, alongside other forces engaged in Muslim oppression.

The letter further stated that “To achieve victory, in house cleaning must also be done (Euphemism for killing opponents).”

The letter went on to call add that the “fascist Indian Modi and Amit Shah regime, by oppressing Muslims in India, has broken the covenant of protection/security with the Muslim population and regrettably. as such. a state of war now exists between the Indian regime and the Muslims in India.”

The letter, in the end, said that “the Party of Islamic Renewal, (headed by Secretary-General Muhammad Al-Massari @almass3ari) provides these suggestions only in the hope, by the permission of Allah, that you should help in leading the Muslims (and the other oppressed peoples) of India to victory.”

Highlighting the aforementioned excerpts from the letter, the Sufi Islamic Board inferred that The Party of Islamic Renewal has threatened the organisation with life if they fail to fall in line with PFI’s jihadi ideologies.

Pertinently, last month, the Sufi Islamic Board had also replied to a defamation notice it received from PFI. In a curt reply, the National President of Sufi Islamic Board Mansoor Khan had said that they will not stop until PFI is banned in India because they are radicalising the youth of India.

Mocking PFI for sending a defamation notice to the Sufi Islamic Board, Mansoor Khan said “an organisation which has 1300 cases against it says to me that we are defaming them. What fame does The Popular Front of India carry when charge sheets have been produced against it, many cases have been proven against them. They say that they are being defamed.”

The Sufi Board had responded to the defamation notice sent to them by PFI after the Tamil Nadu Police, on the request of the Sufi Islamic Board, revoked permission for the radical Islamist organisation Popular Front of India to organize a march at multiple locations across the state on March 4.

Rahul Gandhi claims the country has committed violence against him: What he said

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday made an inexplicable claim that the country has committed violence against him.

“I have been beaten with shoes. I have been subjected to extreme violence in this country. When I introspected why is this happening to me, I got an answer that the country wants to teach me a lesson,” Gandhi said in a speech he made during an event organised to launch the book ‘The Dalit Truth-Battles For Realising Ambedkar’s Vision’.

Trying to project himself as an altruist leader who never sought power, despite the fact that he hightailed it to Wayanad on the prospect of losing Amethi, Gandhi postulated that it was never his intention to grab power and was thankful for the nation for showering him with love and respect.

“Desh ne sirf mujhe pyar nahin diya, desh be mujhe jhoote bi maare. You cannot understand, jitni zoron se, jitni hinsa se, is desh ne mujhe mara hai, peeta hai (But the country has not just given me love, it has thrown shoes at me. You cannot understand how hard, with what violence, I have been hit). I thought why is this happening. I got the answer. The country wants to teach me, the country is saying that you learn and understand. It doesn’t matter even if it pains you, learn and understand,” Gandhi said.

Rahul Gandhi predicts violence and chaos in India, thanks to politics he himself has been playing

The remarks made by Gandhi came a day after he had predicted violence and chaos in the country and had accused the BJP of dividing the nation, two months after he fanned separatist sentiments when he claimed India is not a country but a union of states.

Talking to reporters after meeting Sharad Yadav in Delhi today, Rahul Gandhi accused BJP of dividing the country, saying that it has stoked violence. “India has been divided into groups, earlier it used to be one country, now it has been several countries inside the country, these people have a different country, those people have a different country, those others have a different country, and all of them are being made to fight among themselves,” he said.

After that Rahul Gandhi said that this will lead to violence, by saying, “when this pain will be felt, violence will happen”. He said that people may not agree with him, but will see this situation after 2-3 years.

After Karauli, Hindus come under attack in Karnataka, stones pelted at a Sri Ram Shobha Yatra in Mulbagal

Communal tensions prevailed in Mulbagal town of Kolar district in Karnataka after a Sri Ram Shobha Yatra was attacked using stones. The incident happened on Friday night when the Shobha Yatra was being taken out ahead of Ram Navmi on Sunday.

As per reports, stones were pelted at the Sri Ram idol which was carried out in the procession. Cars and motorcycles that were part of the yatra were also attacked by the miscreants and a motorcycle was set ablaze by the stone-pelting mob. Kolar MP S Muniswamy was also reportedly a part of the procession.

The Shobha Yatra was planned as part of the four-day program at Avani Kesthra in Mulbagal from April 7 to 11. On Friday, the procession was passing through the main streets of the town when the violence broke out. As the procession headed towards Jahangir mohalla, a mob started throwing stones at the procession leading to chaos in the area. A power cut in the area added to the confusion and police had to resort to lathi-charge to bring the situation under control. Police have also arrested 6 accused for their role in the violence.

After the violence, to maintain law and order, two platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), and six platoons of the District Armed Reserve (DAR) have been deputed in Mulbagal town to maintain law and order. Police is further investigating the case to identify others involved in this case of communal violence.

Disturbing trend of attacking Hindu processions

This stone-pelting incident in Karnataka came at the heels of the riots in Karauli, Rajasthan when a bike rally celebrating Hindu New year was attacked leading to large-scale violence. The safety of Hindu processions across the country has come under the scanner due to the repeated attacks on these processions.

Hindu procession in Karauli, attacked by Islamists, was first in 7 years, now, Hindus are being blamed: What it says about the police

Earlier this month, on April 2, when Hindus around the world were celebrating their new year, a horrifying communal conflagration erupted in Rajasthan’s Karauli during a motorcycle rally organised by Hindus to mark the Nav Samvatsar passed through Hatwara Bazar locality in the city, an ostensibly a Muslim-dominated region.

The rally, which was the first time since 2015 that Hindus took out a procession in Karauli, was met with violence as it traversed through a predominantly Muslim neighbourhood. Stones were pelted at the rally; shops and vehicles were set on fire as miscreants ran amok indulging in arson, vandalism and destroying the public property.

According to reports, 43 people were injured in the clashes that erupted in the wake of the Hindu procession. The injured also included policemen, who were referred to the district hospital for tending to their injuries.

The Rajasthan Police had initially registered an FIR against 37 people for instigating the violence. While the police had identified Congress Councillor Matloob Ahmed as the main conspirator in the case, it booked BJP leader and Jaipur mayor Somya Gurjar’s husband Rajaram Gurjar for his alleged involvement in violence. The authorities also booked convenor Neeraj Sharma who had applied for permission for the rally, Sahab Singh Gurjar, state president of the Hindu Sena, and Rajaram Gurjar, former Chairman of the Municipal Council, Karauli.

Rajasthan Police blames Hindu rally for the violence that swept Karauli on April 2

However, on April 8, the Rajasthan Police blamed Hindus for the violence that erupted in Karauli, insinuating that ‘objectionable songs’ played in the Hindu rally were the cause for the communal flare-up that broke out in its wake. The police response implied that stone pelting was in response to the objectionable nature of songs that were played during the procession carried out by Hindus.

Mohan Lal Lather, DGP, Rajasthan, said that the way the Nav Samvatsar procession was carried out was dubious and objectionable songs were played, that’s why stone pelting took place. He further added that peace ensued across states and people celebrated festivals with amity except in Karuli’s Hatwada Bazar. “Such incident happened in Karauli as no procession was taken out the area since 2015. The Police had given permission to the organizers after monitoring the situation but no permission was granted for use of DJs,” DGP Lather added.

According to Rajasthan Police, Hindus who carried out the procession were responsible for the violence because devotional songs played by them were intolerable to the other side, which got triggered pelting stones and escalated the violence. Instead of blaming the Islamists for having a low threshold for inter-religious tolerance and clamping down on their unlawful activities, the police proceeded to hold Hindus responsible for the imbroglio simply because they dared to carry out a procession to celebrate their new year.

The age-old Congress tradition of indulging in minority appeasement and demonising the majority

However, blaming the majority community, regardless of culpability, is often the modus operandi of law enforcement agencies working under the aegis of Congress governments, who have made minority appeasement a cornerstone of their national polity. For decades now, the Congress party has weaponised minorities like no other, ceaselessly stoking the victimhood narrative among them and demonising the majority as a community bent on changing the religious character of the country.

Since the Congress government view minorities as voter blocks, they often gloss over transgressions committed by members of the minority community, in a bid to remain in their good graces. Instead, the majority community, i.e Hindus, take the rap and are deviously projected as aggressors and enemies of peace and tranquillity.

In Rajasthan, where the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government is in power, the police seem to be operating on the same principle. Minorities are mollycoddled, their vices and criminal behaviour overlooked and instead, the majority community is held responsible when a communal cauldron erupts and results in violence and rioting. However, the Rajasthan Police’s stance on Karauli violence also betrays the insidious rise of Islamism, which is either unchecked or perhaps enjoys the state’s sanction.

What stance on Karauli violence tells us about the Police

The fact that a Hindu procession took place for the first time in seven years indicates how Islamism has mushroomed in Karauli, right under the nose of Rajasthan Police, which in all likelihood, was oblivious to their rise or, even worse, complicit in empowering them so much so that they could not even tolerate one Hindu procession, that too, carried out after more than half a decade. As years passed by, without Hindus carrying out any procession, the Islamists in Karauli seemed to be all the more emboldened to continue stamping their authority and subjugating the non-Muslims, including stripping them of their right to organise peaceful rallies to celebrate their festivals.

The action of pushing the blame on Hindus also reveals the Rajasthan Police’s pusillanimity in treating the rampant menace of Islamism plaguing the society. Islamists are allowed to do as they wish because opposing them and initiating disciplinary action against them would incur a political cost, which the Congress government does not seem inclined to pay, given that Rajasthan remains one of the few states where the party has managed to cling on to power.

But besides the political compulsions that are forcing the government in Rajasthan to blame Hindus for the violence, the Rajasthan Police’s stance on the matter is tantamount to endorsing a no-go in “Sharia-compliant zones” in the country, places where Islamists expect non-believers and apostates to conform to the supremacy of their religion, not celebrate festivals of any other faiths and in case if they do, they are alone responsible for the violence that follows in its wake.

Amidst Navratri, Hindu temple vandalised with idols of deities shattered into pieces in Jammu, was attacked two times in recent past

Hooligans vandalised a Hindu temple in Sidhra, Jammu, according to reports and video evidence. As per accounts, the god and goddess idols were vandalised and shattered into pieces. The incident occurred late Friday evening in Jammu’s Sidhra sector, but villagers just learnt about it on Saturday morning, triggering a heavy police presence in the area.

While police have cordoned off the whole area, the entrance to the shrine has also been limited for the time being. The Jammu & Kashmir police have also initiated legal proceedings, and a Forensic Science Lab (FSL) team has arrived at the location to gather samples for further examination.

This is not the first time a temple in Jammu has been vandalised. Furthermore, this occurred during the Navratri festival, which has the potential to cause unrest and rioting among the general public.

Notably, the temple has already been exposed to two vandalism attacks on the idols. As a consequence, the temple was adorned with new idols.

Former Jammu and Kashmir deputy chief minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician Kavinder Gupta issued a statement condemning the attack on the Jammu temple, saying such attacks are carried out to break the area’s ethnoreligious harmony.

He said, “Similar incidents have taken place in the past in Jammu, however, this time, the attack which came after many days raises several questions about the administration itself.”

To ensure that security at the temple is even tighter, the BJP leader indicated that a complete inquiry into the incident would be conducted in order to prevent such incidents in the future.
