After reciving flak, Tamil Nadu government revokes decision to hold public examinations for classes 5 and 8

After receiving flak from all quarters, the Tamil Nadu government has planned to roll back its previous decision to hold public examinations for classes 5 and 8.

Providing much relief to the students, Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday (February 4), in a statement released by School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan, announced its decision to scrap the September 2019 Government order that was meant to introduce Public exams for State board students of classes 5th and 8th, starting March-April 2020.

Reportedly, there was an order passed on 13th September 2019 by Tamil Nadu government, stating that there will be board exams for 5th and 8th standards from the current academic year.

The statement said, “We received a lot of feedback and comments from various stakeholders in the education sector about the exams. And taking all this into consideration, we have decided to stop the board exams for the Class 5 and 8 students”. This simply means that the earlier pattern of the exam system will sustain further.

Minister for School Education K.A. Sengottaiyan had affirmed that several representations and suggestions from the public had received following an announcement in September last year to hold public exams for these classes.

“The government has taken all this into consideration and has cancelled the government order to conduct examinations for classes 5 and 8. We will revert to the regular existing system of exams,” he said in a statement”, he said.

The order passed had come under intense criticism from all sides. Educationists and Activists advocated against putting children under immense stress by making them appear for public exams at this age.

Stakeholders highlight that such a policy could end up causing an increase in child labour as parents of “non-performing” or “under-performing” students who belong to lesser fortunate sections of society would discourage their wards from continuing their schooling.

Moreover, activists have emphasized that having board exams for classes 5 and 8 would only deprive the children of the freedom and joy, as they would be pressured by parents to perform well in the board exams right from their 5th grade up until they complete their schooling.

Recently, a Class 8 student from Peerkankaranai had allegedly committed suicide and his parents had suspected that the stress over the board exams could have pushed him to take the extreme step.

Budget 2020: Modi Government allocates 30 per cent higher funds for the agriculture sector

To give a boost to the agriculture sector in the country, the Modi government in its 2020 budget has aimed to provide a higher budget allocation for agriculture and its allied activities as well as to the food and food processing sector for the financial year 2020-21, reports Economic Times.

According to the report, the government has provided a 30 per cent increase in fund allocation at Rs 1,42,761.58 Crore for the next fiscal for agriculture and farmer welfare than Rs 1,09,750.17 Crore for the ongoing financial year.

The allocation for the PM-KISAN scheme, under which Rs 6,000 are provided in three equal instalments to each beneficiary farmer annually, has been kept at Rs 75,000 crore for the FY21 as against the Rs 54,370.15 crore provided in the revised estimate for this year. The allocation has been trimmed keeping in view the implementation hurdles and lack of attentiveness shown by some states like West Bengal.

The BJP led government has focussed on allied activities that bring additional income to farmers such as dairy. The government has increased allocation for animal husbandry, livestock, dairy and fishery to Rs 4,114.13 Crore for the FY21 from the revised estimate of Rs 3490 Crore.

The Research and agriculture development has been allocated Rs 8,362.58 crore for FY21 as against Rs 7,846.17 crore in the revised estimate.

However, for the fertilizer and the chemicals industry, the allocation of funds has been reduced. The budget which earlier stood at Rs 80,405.18 Crore would now stand at Rs 71,563.34 Crore for the current financial year.

Besides a 16-point action plan was put forth by the Finance Minister to help the agricultural sector and increase farmer’s wages.

‘We have seen a modest increase of about 8% year on year’, Army chief expressed confidence that the defence force will continue to be modernised

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 presented the Union Budget 2020 in which the defence budget was hiked from Rs 3.18 lakh crore to Rs 3.37 lakh crore. In an effort to modernise and buying new weapon systems, the defence forces have been allocated Rs 1,10,734 crore which is Rs 10,340 crore more than what was provided in last year’s budget.

Speaking of the 6 per cent hike in the 2020 defence budget, the Army chief General MM Naravane on Tuesday expressed confidence that the defence force will continue to be modernised notwithstanding what budget allocations are made.

“We will continue to modernise notwithstanding what budget allocations are made. Last year itself we had inducted 4-5 different types of weapon systems and platforms. Modernisation has never been an issue,” he added.

Further talking about the defence budget allocation, Naravane said he will study on how to make full use of it. “We have seen a modest increase of about 8 per cent year on year, we will be studying how to manage this budget and how to make full use of it,” he added.

Responding to the report by Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) tabled in Parliament on Monday, that included the condition of troops in high altitude areas, he said that it was a “little outdated”. He asserted that each and every jawan who goes to Siachin gets personal clothing worth Rs 1 lac.

“That CAG report pertains to the year 2015-16. So it is not the report of present times. It is a little outdated at that sense But I would like to assure you that as of today- 2020, we are very well prepared”, he said while speaking to ANI.

He affirmed that every jawan who goes to Siachin is provided with personal clothing worth approximately Rs 1 lac. The army chief said: “that is the preparation we do, that is the way we equip every man before he goes up and similar is the case with special rations which are authorized to anyone who is deployed in such difficult areas, we are making sure whatever their needs are, are met”.

Along with the personal kit for protection against winters, every soldier also gets equipment worth rupees Rs 1.5 lacs for survival and moving around the Siachen glacier during their deployment there.

The Army General furthered: “As things improve, as new technology comes in as better as lighter clothing comes in…we will continue we will continue endorsing those also. We will make sure our men are looked after at all times”.

On the Indian Nationals coming back from Cornonaviras stricken Wuhan, General said: “The coronavirus has become a global epidemic and it is going to affect all the countries in the world. it is going to affect us also. we had a number of our nationals in Wuhan and other places in China. And as part of the overall effort, we’re also chipping to help out. It is to that extent that we have made a small camp at Manesar where we had an existing facility to house our troops”.

We can take care of 200-250 people at any point in time. It is a very basic facility, as far as the camp is concerned, we have put out medical detachment there monitoring the people, who are there on a daily basis. As and when anybody is showing any symptoms, he’s being screened more careful before he is cleared for being sent back home”, General MM Naravane said.

As Kapil Gujjar turns out to be AAP leader, here is how Sanjay Singh, who felicitated the shooter, blamed Amit Shah for Shaheen Bagh shooting

The skeletons which were safely tucked in Aam Aadmi Party’s closet for all this while have now been tumbling out. It has now been revealed that the Shaheen Bagh shooter, Kapil Gujjar, who fired three shots in the air on February 1, after declaring that only Hindus will prevail in India, was associated with the AAP since early 2019.

This revelation is sure to bring the Aam Aadmi Party much embarrassment considering its leader Sanjay Singh had alleged that the incident was BJP’s ploy. After the shooting incident at New Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh had launched an attack on the BJP and alleged that they want to disturb peace in Delhi to defer Assembly polls.

Reacting to the incident, Singh said they had already warned the Election Commission that a conspiracy is being hatched by the BJP to postpone the polls.

“I had warned earlier that BJP is hatching a conspiracy to disrupt peace to defer polls in Delhi. They know they will lose. They tried to do the same thing before the 2015 Delhi polls,” the Rajya Sabha MP said.

“How is it possible that individuals in the national capital are brandishing dangerous weapons and are firing openly?” he said. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is responsible for the law and order situation in Delhi but he is trying to create trouble, alleged Singh.

On February 1, one man named Kapil Gujjar had fired three rounds in the air at Shaheen Bagh, the epicentre of the protest against the country’s new citizenship law, and was later taken into custody. On being nabbed by the police, he had announced:  “Hamare desh me kisi aur ki nahi chalegi, bas Hinduon ki chalegi (Only the writ of Hindus shall run in India, no one else’s).”

AAP leader Sanjay Singh had immediately reacted to the firing incident at Shaheen Bagh pinning the blame on ruling BJP.

Today, the Delhi Crime Branch has found certain pictures on the mobile phone of Kapil Gujjar. In these pictures, Kapil Gujjar can be seen with AAP leaders such as Atishi and Sanjay Singh. In the pictures, AAP Dy CM Manish Sisodia and AAP leaders such as Atishi and Sanjay Singh are seen felicitating Kapil Gujjar and his father.

Kapil in his statement to the police has allegedly accepted that both he and his father had political aspirations and in order to fulfil it, they joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2019.

Now with these details emerging it is sufficiently clear that Kapil Gujjar was not any other ordinary citizen, but an important part of the AAP’s hatched conspiracy behind the ‘organised’ Shaheen Bagh protests.

Egypt: 12-year-old girl dies after forced ‘khatna’, parents and retired doctor who illegally performed surgery detained

0

In a horrific incident, a minor girl in Egypt died after Female Genital mutilation (FGM), also called ‘khatna’ procedure was illegally performed on her. The Egypt police have now taken the girl’s parents and aunt into four-day custody. They have also detained the retired doctor who illegally performed the banned procedure on the minor, in his private clinic.

One 12-year-old, Nada Hassan Abdel-Maqsoud was taken by her parents, uncle and aunt to a private clinic in Manflout, located in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Assiut, where she underwent the illegal procedure, also known as female circumcision, the public prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

After the procedure, the girl was brought back home. Soon after her condition started to deteriorate, with the child complaining of excessive bleeding and pain. Her parents then rushed her back to the clinic where the retired doctor had illegally performed the circumcision on the child.

“After she left, she suffered complications. The doctor tried to save her, but she passed away,” said the statement, pledging “firm action” against anyone carrying out the procedure in the future.

The retired doctor (70), who identified himself as “Ali AA”, was allegedly carrying out these surgeries illegally in his private clinic. He reportedly carried out the procedure on this 12-year-old without anaesthesia, without a nurse present and without any qualifications as a surgeon, according to local prosecutors. He claimed the family brought the girl to him for “plastic surgery” on her genitals.

The girls family reportedly admitted that they knew they were taking the child to undergo FGM and that her mother and aunt had allegedly stayed in the room during the procedure.

This incident has sparked outrage, with Women’s and children’s rights groups in Egypt urging prosecution in the case.

Egyptian authorities have struggled for years to eradicate this illegal practice. Despite the 2008 ban and new laws in 2016 criminalising it and attracting a jail term up to 7 years, this illegal practice, which is still considered a religious practice by few sections of the Islamic community, is still carried out exponentially in Egypt. According to a 2016 survey, 87 per cent of women and girls in Egypt are circumcised.

In India also, almost 90 per cent of women belonging to the Bohra Muslim community undergo the painful practice at 7-8 years of age. The FGM is almost always performed by women of the community or non-medically trained midwives. It not only causes pain and humiliation risking the hygiene and health of the girl but also causes a lasting memory of the ordeal, adding to long-term trauma.

In 2018, the Modi government has sought a complete ban on this practice maintaining that no girl child should undergo such trauma in the name of religion. Then Congress leader and advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing on behalf of the Dawooodi Bohra Women’s Association for Religious Freedom, had argued in favour of the practice.

He stated that the Bohra community practises female circumcision and it is a 1000-year-old practice. He further added that it is an essential and integral practice for the community based on religious grounds.

No researcher from Wuhan involved in study: NCBS slams The Hindu for spreading misinformation amidst the Coronavirus crisis

The National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) has hit back at The Hindu after a report published on its website claimed that an inquiry was ordered into a study conducted in Nagaland by researchers from the U.S., China and India on bats and humans carrying antibodies to deadly viruses like Ebola.

The Hindu report further claimed that the study was under the scanner because two of the twelve researchers involved belonged to the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s Department of Emerging Infectious Diseases, and that it was funded by the United States Department of Defense’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA).

Wuhan is the epicenter of the Novel Coronavirus (nCov) outbreak and speculations have been rife that nCov is a Bioweapon leak and not merely an outbreak of disease. It is further speculated by a great many that the Wuhan Institue of Virology is where the bioweapon was conceived at or leaked out of.

Read: Coronavirus: India temporarily suspends e-visa facility for Chinese and foreigners residing in China

It seems that The Hindu hurried its report given that the said institute featured in the story and added spicier details such as ‘steeped in secrecy’ despite the fact that it wasn’t in order for sensationalist headlines.

In a public statement, slamming The Hindu for its shoddy journalism, NCBS issued a clarification over the matter. NCBS clarified that no researcher from the Wuhan Institue of Virology was directly involved with the study. The statement said, “Researchers at the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) have been studying bat antibodies in Nagaland since 2012. The Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases of the Duke-National University of Singapore Medical School (Duke-NUS) has been studying bat populations across Southeast Asia, including in Singapore and Cambodia. In 2017, NCBS and Duke-NUS entered into a collaboration in which researchers based at NCBS collected samples of serum from bats and humans. These samples were tested at NCBS using the technologies supplied by Duke-NUS.”

NCBS clarified that researchers from the Wuhan Institute of Virology were listed as co-authors only because they supplied reagants critical to the study to Duke-NUS, as is the standard practice for scientific authorship. It further made it clear that no biological samples or infectious agents were transferred into or out of India, and this study has no connection with Coronaviruses.

On the claims made by The Hindu with regards to the funding of the study, NCBS clarified that it is not a recipient of DTRA funds. Duke-NUS receives funding from the DTRA and hence, it finds a mention in the study. It also said that documentation regarding this study is transparently and freely available in the public domain.

Read: The New Worry of Depleting Journalistic Ethics: Suhasini Haidar lies in her The Hindu oped about India’s diplomatic ties

NCBS said that such studies are necessary as bats are a major reservoir of novel zoonotic diseases, which are infectious diseases that can jump from animals to humans. Nipah, Coronavirus, and Ebola are examples of some of these diseases. It said, “It is important to understand where outbreaks are likely to occur ahead of time, so resources can be rapidly mobilized when required. An important part of this preparedness is to characterize the natural types of immune-system antibodies that are prevalent in wild populations of bats. This is especially important where bats come in close contact with humans, as is the case in Nagaland due to traditional hunting practices.”

NCBS also urged the media and all stakeholders to only obtain information from reliable and verified sources as the spread of misinformation and panic could be devastating during a global health crisis. The Hindu’s track record on issues of grave importance has been constantly irresponsible. It appears that beyond the realm of politics, they have started indulging in spreading misinformation during a potential global pandemic as well.

Pictures emerge of Shaheen Bagh shooter Kapil Gujjar being AAP leader, admits to crime branch of having political ambitions: Read details

The conspiracy surrounding the Shaheen Bagh shooting where one Kapil Gujjar fired three shots in the air after declaring that only Hindus will prevail in India is finally unravelling. Delhi police made a shocking revelation regarding Shaheen Bagh shooter, Kapil Gujjar and his father’s, link with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). According to the Crime Branch sources, Gujjar, the man who open fired near the anti-CAA protest at Shaheen Bagh on February 1 and his father became members of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP in early 2019.

The Delhi Crime Branch has found certain pictures on the mobile phone of Kapil Gujjar.

Gujjar, who belongs to east Delhi’s Dallupura, fired three bullets in the air after warning protesters to vacate the spot on February 1. He was arrested by the Delhi Police and a court sent him to police custody.

Initial investigations had revealed that the accused was miffed over long traffic jams caused due to the Anti-CAA protests in Shaheen Bagh, accompanied by road blockades. On being nabbed by the police, he announced:  “Hamare desh me kisi aur ki nahi chalegi, bas Hinduon ki chalegi (Only the writ of Hindus shall run in India, no one else’s).”

Now with these details emerging it is sufficiently clear that Kapil Gujjar was not any other ordinary citizen, but an important part of the AAP’s hatched conspiracy behind the ‘organised’ Shaheen Bagh protests.

Kapil in his statement to the police has allegedly accepted that both he and his father had political aspirations and in order to fulfil it, they joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2019. He further confessed to the Delhi Police that he had bought the pistol seven years back for celebratory firing during his brother’s wedding, claimed a report by CNN News 18.

Investigation details revealed that Gujjar had initially to delete all such images from his mobile phone but the Delhi crime branch successfully retrieved these pictures with technical assistance.

It is pertinent to note here, that the Aam Aadmi Party has openly extended its support to the Shaheen Bagh protesters, Speaking to the CNN News18 ahead of the 2020 Delhi elections, Deputy chief minister and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia declared his support for the protesters demonstrating at Shaheen Bagh. He categorically stated that the Aam Aadmi Party stands with the protestors of Shaheen Bagh, Delhi.

Pakistani ministers brazenly call for Jihad against India inside the Pakistan Assembly: Read details

0

Exhibiting its fervent anti-Indian or anti-Hindu narrative, Pakistan has once again called for ‘jihad’ against India on Monday.

Jamiat Ulema-e Islam, Fazlur (JUIF), a Deobandi trained party of Pakistan led by Maulana Fazal ur Rehman who is leading a crusade against Imran Khan government by organising protests across Pakistan, has now openly urged Pakistani PM Imran Khan to declare Jihad against India at the Pakistan Assembly yesterday.

Opining that mere announcement of war with India would force the international community to intervene and resolve the decades-old Kashmir issue between the two countries, Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, a member of the Pakistan assembly even audaciously suggested a date, February 10 (Monday) for starting the Jihad against India.

Other leaders in the Pakistan Assembly asserted that war is the only option available in order to “liberate the people of Kashmir and to complete the unfinished plan of the subcontinent’s partition.

Recently, in another desperate attempt, Pakistan had in October, last year, organised an event called the ‘Azadi-e-Kashmir Convention’ in Karachi to promote Jihad against India. The theme of the event, as per its Facebook page, was “Ub Hind Banega Pakistan”. The organizers wanted to “build a pressure in India to show our Strength because we all are one.”

While its Facebook page was evidence enough for the kind of morbid hatred against India that the event would cater to, the organizers appeared to have outdone themselves with a promotional video that engaged school-going children in their grotesque charade.

The fervent anti-Indian or anti-Hindu narrative in Pakistan is not a new phenomenon. The idea of Pakistan was itself premised on the eternal hatred towards Hindus, however, it has grown gradually in the last few decades due to various politico-religious reasons. The Pakistani establishment aided by its ‘deep state’ often becomes very enthusiastic about ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’, one of the lunacies peddled by radical Islamists to fool terror recruits into believing that killing Hindus and waging war against India is their religious duty.

In recent decades, as Pakistan’s socio-economic status kept declining among the countries who had also gained freedom or were formed around the same time, the Ghazwa-e-Hind narrative became another one of the easy tools for Pakistani politicians to justify their policies and hide their failures.

Even as Imran Khan has continued his hollow statements about peace and ‘talks’, many of his ministers have been betraying the real face of Pakistan’s politics where radicalism, hatred against Hindus and India is all they have to show for 70 years of their existence.

Recently, one of Pakistan’s ministers, Ali Muhammad Khan openly called ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’, the last holy war against Hindus and India, by invoking Islamic invaders Muhammad bin Qasim and Mahmood of Ghazni. Ali Muhammad Khan, who is the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in Pakistan had claimed that Pakistanis were the descendants of Islamic invaders in India and had warned India of “Ghazwa-e-Hind”.

Fayaz-ul-Hasan Chohan, another minister in Imran Khan’s government, in a recent speech called Hindus as “cow urine drinkers”. Interestingly, the phrase ‘cow urine drinkers’ is commonly used to target Hindus not only by Islamists, terrorists but also it has become a ‘fanciful’ term for Indian liberals to either refer Hindus or anybody who is critical of them.

On 19 February 2019, Pakistani railways minister Sheikh Rasheed had threatened Indians and the Hindus with a nuclear war and had claimed that no bells would sound in Indian temples.

In fact, Rasheed had also opposed the release of Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman. He had appealed to every Muslim to join “Jihad”. “Doing Jihad is mandatory in Islam. If a Muslim does not do Jihad, he is no longer a Muslim,” he had said

The controversial Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi had emerged as one of the epi-centres of the anti-CAA agitations being perpetrated in the name of ‘peaceful protests’. The students and Muslim mob associated with the Jamia Millia Islamia University had unleashed violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

In December, the protests against CAA and NRC had turned violent amidst chants of Allah-o-Akbar and Naara-e-Taqbeer. The Muslim mobs had burnt four DTC buses, 100 private vehicles and 10 police bikes and pelted stones, injuring several policemen.

Following the riots, the Delhi police had registered an FIR against six people including four local politicians and a former Congress MLA was also named as suspects related to Jamia violence. The Delhi Police had named former Congress MLA Asif Khan as one of the accused in its FIR.

The other six accused persons were identified as local politicians Ashu Khan, Mustafa and Haider, Kasim Usmani – a member of the CYSS, the student wing of Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party, AISA member Chandan Kumar, SIO member  Asif Tanha, a member of the Students Islamic Organisation of India.

The Delhi police had also arrested 10 people with criminal background in connection with the Jamia Nagar riots that took place in the national capital. The ten arrested people were identified as – Mohammad Hanif, Danish alias Jafar, Sameer Ahmed, Dilshad, Shareef Ahmed, Mohd Danish, Yunus Khan, Jumman, Anal Hassan, Anwar Kala.

It is pertinent to note that AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan was also spotted at the Jamia Nagar protests which turned violent in December. Later, an FIR was also filed against him for instigating violence through social media.

In an inflammatory speech on December 15 at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, Khan had attacked the BJP government for enacting the Citizenship Amendment Act by claiming that it was discriminatory for Muslims of the country. Khan had also alleged that the silence of Muslims on the Triple Talaq Act was taken as their weakness by the central government.

The speech which was attended by thousands of impassioned people gathered to protest against the CAA was allegedly delivered just minutes before the violence broke out on the streets of Delhi.

On Friday, the Delhi Police Crime Branch also arrested a person named Mohammad Iliyas for rioting during Anti-CAA protests. Prior to this, Furkan, a resident of Jamia Nagar was nabbed by police for his involvement in Anti-CAA riots. Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Okhla, Amanatullah Khan who allegedly instigated riots after the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act had created a ruckus demanding the release of Furkan.
