Supreme Court takes suo moto cognizance in the heinous Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case

0

The Supreme Court has today taken suo moto cognizance of the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case and issued a notice to the Bihar government and the ministry of woman and child development. According to reports, the apex court has sought a detailed reply on the issue.

The Supreme Court has also raised concerns over the images of child victims being circulated in the media and their identities being revealed. The court has banned the media from broadcasting the images of minor victims even in blurred or morphed form.

The case of children of shelter homes in Muzaffarpur being sexually abused and tortured came to light a few days ago. Underage girls residing at the Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti shelter home has alleged rape and torture on the officials and employees of the shelter home. Most of the girls are speech impaired and according to a recent medical report, 34 girls were allegedly raped after being given sedatives with food at night. Any girls resisting sexual abused were being beaten and starved. The Tata Institute of Social Sciences workers had played a crucial role in bringing the long-ongoing abuse to notice. TISS had reportedly notified the state government over sexual abuse being rampant in a number of short-stay homes in the state back in April.

So far, four shelter homes run by the Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti have been revealed to have sexually abused their inhabitants. 11 people, along with Brijesh Thakur, the owner of the NGO have been arrested so far. The Bihar police had lodged an FIR in this case on May 31. However, it is reported that even after the allegations and FIR, social welfare department of Bihar government had sanctioned another project to the same NGO.

Horrid details of abuse, rape and torture have emerged from the case. Recently, another FIR was lodged against Brijesh Thakur when news came to light that 11 women and 4 children were missing from another shelter home run by his NGO. The shelter home in Chaturbhuj sthan in Muzaffarpur had all its inmates, 11 women and 4 children missing. The involvement of the state welfare department in protecting and shielding Brijesh Thakur is being suspected because even though the state welfare department was aware of the women and children missing, no FIR had been registered for almost 2 months. The police were also informed that one girl was beaten to death and buried in the premises of the shelter home.

Reports state that 3 girls have had abortions while 3 are currently pregnant. The shelter home reportedly had a separate room that functioned as OT for carrying out forced abortions. The shelter home was reportedly run as a brothel where girls were tormented almost every night. The girls have even alleged that on occasions, they were even taken outside for a night and returned the next day. They have accused Brijesh Thakur and the shelter home staff for beating and starving them. The district child protection officer is also among those arrested.

On 28th July, Bihar police have submitted a 16-page charge sheet in the POCSO court over the matter. Public prosecutor Sangita Sahni has stated that the shelter home effectively ran as a brothel. The charge sheet reportedly states that there were 67 types of drugs that were recovered from the shelter home, including injections for epilepsy. The girls have principally accused one ‘Tondwale Netaji, one ‘Moochwale uncle’ and one ‘Hunterwale uncle’ as the main persons who have sexually exploited them. The charge sheet also includes the statements of 32 girls.

After a nation-wide uproar and raised questions on the state welfare department, the CBI has taken over the case. CBI has reportedly registered an FIR on the issue on Sunday and a 12 member team is currently camping in Muzaffarpur.

Jyotiraditya Scindia asks Muslim woman leader to step down from stage during press conference

0

A new video has been surfaced which could embarrass the Congress party ahead of the state elections in Madhya Pradesh. In a viral video, it is seen that Madhya Pradesh Congress campaigning committee chief Jyotiraditya Scindia seems to be unhappy about a woman Congress member sharing the stage with him.

The senior Congress leader of Madhya Pradesh Jyotiraditya Scindia was about to address a press conference in Ujjain. However, before the commencement of the conference, Congress spokesman Noori Khan was also seen sitting next to the scion. Scindia then pointed fingers at Noori Khan and asked her to step down from the stage. Noori Khan had to follow the order of the senior Congress leader and politely stepped down from the stage.

The other Congress leaders like Ujjain Congress president Mahesh Soni, senior leader Rajvardhan Singh Dattigao and former MLA Rajendra Bharati were are also seen sharing the stage with the Scindia.

Noori Khan, a Congress leader and also the spokesperson of the Madhya Pradesh Congress, is known in the state for holding a fast-unto-death agitation in support of the purification of River Shipra in Ujjain.

The incident seems to be from July 28th 2018 when Jyotiraditya Scindia had held a press conference in Ujjain.

AAP’s Alka Lamba, who had laughed insensitively during a rescue operation and had spread lies about a rape in Gujarat also hit out at Scindia for disrespecting a woman.

Jyothiraditya Scindia recently had stoked a controversy after he was caught throwing away a coconut, which incidentally was presented to him by his party workers, while he was campaigning for the upcoming elections in the state. It was reported that the coconut was a ‘Pooja Prasad’ or offering to the god during the Pooja. Rahul Gandhi, who claims himself to be a ‘Janeu-dhari’ Hindu and a champion of women empowerment is yet to comment on either of these incidents.

The Congress in the Madhya Pradesh seems to be a divided house, as the infighting in the party over the leadership over the state unit continues. There is reportedly a sense of uneasiness between the two factions, one led by the Madhya Pradesh Congress Chief Kamal Nath and other by Jyothiraditya Scindia, who was made the state campaigning chief by Rahul Gandhi. Recently, a poster war had been erupted between both the factions, each claiming their leaders to be the next Chief Minister of the state.

Senior HRCE official arrested in connection with misappropriation in making gold idols

A senior official of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department in Chennai, M Kavitha, was arrested by the Idol Wing of the Police in connection with an alleged misappropriation in making gold idols of Lord for the ancient Ekambaranathar temple in Kancheepuram district, on Tuesday. She has reportedly denied any irregularities in making the gold idols.

According to Idol Wing officials, the two idols which were supposed to contain 5.75 kg of gold in total did not contain even a single gram of gold in them. The making of the idols was overseen by the then Deputy Commissioner of HRCE, Kavitha.

HRCE officials, meanwhile, have claimed that they are being unfairly targeted by the Idol Wing of the Police. After a series of meetings, they have decided to go on a mass leave. However, their requests for leave was not granted. “We are being targeted by the idol wing and the court is not supporting us. Not all of us are involved in corruption. If there are proper cases against officials, they must be punished. We are not able to work under threat daily,” said one joint commissioner. The employees will also hold a strike in protest against AG Manickavel who heads the Idol Wing. “His job is to find out the missing idols and draw plans for protecting existing idols. But complaints regarding irregularities need to be investigated by top officials of the HR&CE department and Manickavel has no business in this connection,” said one official.

The Idol Wing, however, isn’t taking the accusations of harassment hurled at them kindly. “Even before we start interrogating anyone in the case, we are being accused of harassment. In the absence of actual examination of the accused/witnesses, the complaint of harassment by a few is false and malicious. Such an allegation is intentional and is being levelled by some HR&CE officials who could be involved in the wrongdoing,” said a senior officer in the Idol Wing.

The AIADMK government has drawn flak after it transferred all pending idol theft cases to the CBI claiming Manickavel’s work was not satisfactory. Critics of the government claim that Manickavel has successfully resolved over 50 cases and recovered 20 idols. His crowning achievement, however, was the recovery of idols of Raja Raja Chola and his consort Lokamadevi.

Mehul Choksi had ‘loose alliance’ with Congress, says his lawyer David Dorsett: Republic

0

As reported by Republic, David Dorsett, Mehul Choksi’s lawyer has claimed that Choksi had ‘loose alliance’ with the Congress which ‘flamed’ the situation, implying the case against him is a case of political witchhunt. In a conversation with Republic, Dorsett has claimed that there are ‘serious political elements involved’ in the case. Mehul Choksi, who is an accused in the multi-crore financial fraud, has recently claimed that he is now an Antiguan citizen. He became an Antiguan citizen in November 2017, months before the scam broke out.

India has requested Antigua to detain him, following which Choksi approached the High Court of Antigua to block the government’s move to extradite him.

Choksi’s lawyer also called Nirav Modi, his nephew, also an accused in the financial fraud, a ‘scapegoat’ and that the authorities are trying to pin the matter on him. He further says that a very serious political element is involved in this whole matter and the political climate in India is heated up in a very ‘serious way’ especially with the elections coming up next year. He claimed that “the politicians in splints right now. They are trying to carry as much popular support as they can and the situation with Mr. Choksi has to be seen in that context”.

He further claims that Choksi “was an ordinary businessman and he had some loose alliance with what is now known as the opposition party in India, the Congress Party, which is the party that is different from the party of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I believe that his name. So, there is a difference. I also know that he was a regional, a political activist but there was somewhat of a loose alliance that has kind of inflamed the situation.”

Earlier, the BJP had cornered Congress over fielding Mehul Choksi’s lawyer as a candidate in Karnataka Assembly elections. Interestingly, on 16th May, 2014, the day election results were declared with Prime Minister Modi winning the elections, P. Chidambaram, the then finance minister, had signed an order to benefit 13 companies including Mehul Choksi.

Meanwhile, Republic reports that the BJP will be holding an emergency meeting to discuss the development and even raise the issue in the Parliament. Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, too, sought an explanation from Congress.

Liberals want Bharat ke tukde so that they can feed the pieces to Bangladeshi illegals

“You have come from outside … All you Aryans have come from outside…”

This is not a troll on Twitter pouring out garbage on social media. These are words of Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the Congress Legislative Party in the Lok Sabha speaking on the floor of Parliament. Speaking on the occasion of Constitution Day in the Lok Sabha.

And who are these comments directed at? Who is being called an outsider? Well, it is none other than Rajnath Singh, India’s Home Minister.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWOi6lHxIJ4?version=3&rel=1&fs=1&autohide=2&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&wmode=transparent]

Yeah, that is the official view of the Congress Legislative Party leader presented formally on the floor of the Lok Sabha. That India’s Home Minister is an “outsider.”

That is the real face of the party which claims to be doing politics of loving and hugging.

Let me pose this question directly to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, the Congress Party and the entire liberal ecosystem: do you consider Home Minister Rajnath Singh to be an “outsider”? Yes or No?

Even if you use the discredited, false and malafide Aryan invasion theory, the Aryans have been living in India for 3500 years at the very least. Tell me Rahul ji, tell me Sonia ji, for how many thousand years should Home Minister Rajnath Singh prove his lineage in India before you will allow him to shed the tag of “outsider”?

This is the same Left-Congress ecosystem that is also asking: what will happen to Bangladeshis who have been living here (illegally) for maybe one or two generations?

Why this double standard? The answer is obvious and so is the agenda. Because Rajnath Singh is a Hindu and an Indian. Dividing Hindus is the topmost priority of the Congress ecosystem right now. The only time they remember universal brotherhood of people is when somebody talks of getting Bangladeshi illegals to leave the country.

Take Maharashtra. The entire Congress-Left ecosystem is getting Marathas riled up against Chief Minister Fadnavis, who happens to be a Brahmin. Don’t tell me this is about the reservation. In 54 years, there have been 11 Chief Ministers in Maharashtra from the politically dominant Maratha community, but the reservation pot just happens to boil over when a Brahmin CM is in office.

What happened to universal human solidarity now? A Bangladeshi illegal is an integral part of India but a Brahmin from Nagpur should have no rights in Maharashtra?

Then, there is Haryana. The Congress ecosystem in Haryana wants the Jats to revolt because Chief Minister Khattar is a Punjabi Khatri. That means his ancestors have roots not in Haryana but in the adjacent state of Punjab. Oh dear! That makes CM Khattar an infiltrator in the eyes of liberals and seculars.

But don’t you dare call a Bangladeshi illegal an infiltrator. Haven’t you heard that the world is one big family?

Of course, there is Gujarat. When Hardik Patel was going around to young people distributing “I am Patidar” caps, liberals were clapping so much that they nearly fell out of their chairs. Apparently, liberals will build a developed new India by getting the youth to walk around wearing caps with their caste displayed prominently on them.

This is happening all across the country. The Congress ecosystem is going around looking for reasons to tear us apart. In Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, there is Pathalgarhi, a movement most beloved of leftists and Maoists. A simple tribal cultural event was seized upon and made into a political movement where tribals are encouraged to put up signs refusing entry to all “outsiders.” Here, “outsiders” would mean any Indian who is not a tribal from that exact area. The tag of “outsiders” would also apply to any symbols of the Indian state, including government schools.

The same liberal ecosystem that calls for all non-tribals to be expelled from Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh also calls for Bangladeshi illegals to be tolerated in Assam.

So Rajnath Singh is an outsider, Fadnavis is an outsider, Khattar is an outsider, any non-tribal born in Jharkhand or Chhattisgarh is an outsider. Apparently, the only insiders are Bangladeshi infiltrators who jumped the border illegally. Suddenly, when it comes to Bangladeshis, the world is one. But non-tribals born in Jharkhand must be expelled immediately.

The agenda is crystal clear. Liberals want to divide Indians between Jat, Maratha, Patidar, Lingayat, Tribal, Dalit, etc, etc. There the slogan is Bharat ke tukde. And what will happen to these tukde? Well, the idea is to break up India, chop it up into tiny bite-sized pieces and feed it to infiltrators from across the border.

NRC fallout: 2 TMC leaders from Assam quit, accuse Mamata Banerjee of speaking without knowledge

As per reports, two TMC leaders from Assam have quit the party over Mamata Banerjee’s remarks on the recently published final draft of NRC.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljzFHPXMBcM]

As reported by CNN News 18, the TMC leaders, Diganta Saikia and Pradeep Pachoni, have asserted that Mamata Banerjee is commenting on the NRC without knowledge of the facts and ground realities. Further, they said that they shall not stand behind a leader who speaks without having any knowledge of the subject she is commenting on.

Mamata Banerjee has also drawn flak from various quarters in the state for her comments on the NRC. President of All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA), Pradip Dutta Roy, slammed the West Bengal Chief Minister during a media briefing. He said, “When National Register of Citizens (NRC) officials from Assam sent 1,11,048 names of applicants to her state for verification, the matter was not ‘suitably supported’ by her, or her government. Only 5,852 names got back verified from her state, which goes to show that she alone has gobbled up more than a lakh applicant”. Speaking to Northeast Now, he added, “The hue and cry that she is making is just to appease her minority vote bank of her state. The team of Trinamool Congress leaders that she is sending, would add more fuel to the fire that has not started at all in Assam, post declaration of NRC final draft”.

Former Chief Minister and senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, has also slammed Mamata Banerjee for her comments on the NRC. “Mamata Banerjee is trying to use the issue for political gains, which is not justified,” he said. Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Tarun Gogoi, also made his displeasure known with Mamata Banerjee’s remarks. “Mamata Banerjee should not worry about what happens in Assam. She should be bothered by the politics of West Bengal. There is no question of harassment of genuine Indian citizens in the name of NRC update. We are here to protect each genuine Indian citizens from harassment,” he said.

Mamata Banerjee had said while speaking at a conclave that the NRC will lead to a civil war. Claiming that the NRC was done with a political motive and accusing the BJP of diving people, she said, “If it goes on like this, don’t you think it will create a civil war, don’t you think it will create a bloody war? The civil unrest has already started as section 144 has been imposed in Assam”.

Christian Convent in Gujarat punishes girl student for wearing henna, later apologizes

0

A Christian Convent in Bharuch, Gujarat had barred girl students from entering school, if they were found to be wearing henna (mehendi) on their hands. It is reported that the school principal made around 40 girls stand outside the classroom for four hours as a punishment for applying the henna on the hands. The new diktat has angered the parents and they protested against the school authorities.

The administration of the Queen of Angel’s Convent School had ‘suspended’ the girl students till the mehendi on their hands faded. The angry parents confronted the school authorities and stormed the school chanting Hanuman Chalisa to protest against the order issued by the school. Local BJP MLA, and members of the RSS and VHP also joined in the protests again the school.

The wearing of mehendi is a custom in practice in many parts of the country since a very long time. The girls traditionally wear it during the ‘Gauri-vrat’ in Gujarat which ended two days earlier, said the MLA.

The Christian Convent had to finally apologize for their diktat and assured the parents that these incidents will not occur in the future. Sister Shila, a member of the school administration has even denied suspension of any student.

We had earlier reported that a similar incident had occurred in Kerala, when the principal of a government school in Pallakad had issued a diktat, threatening the students with expulsion if they are found to be using religious symbols like kumkum on their foreheads or sacred threads on their wrists. Earlier, a government school run by an evangelical Christian affected an order on girl students not to wear flowers and bindi.

Amidst rampant idol thefts from temples, Tamil Nadu govt to transfer all such cases to CBI

0

The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday informed the Madras High Court that it has decided to transfer all the idol theft cases to the CBI, which till now were being probed by the Idol Wing of the CID, The Hindu has reported.

As per the report, additional Advocate General P.H. Arvindh Pandian informed the division bench of Justices R. Mahadevan and P.D. Audikesavalu that such a decision to transfer the cases has been taken to inspire public confidence. This division bench was specifically constituted by the Chief Justice Indira Banerjee to hear matters related to idol theft.

As per a Times of India report, the Advocate General conceded in the court that one of the reasons for the transfer was the unsatisfactory performance of the idol theft investigative wing headed by inspector general Pon Manickavel.

Following this, the court directed the Advocate General to produce documents about the policy decision during the next hearing on 8 August. It also directed Manickavel to file a status report regarding the cases.

Such a decision to transfer the cases follows a July hearing in the High Court where the court had warned that it would ask the CBI to probe the thefts if proper steps weren’t taken to curb the menace.

During that hearing, Justice Mahadevan had referred to the recent thefts of Lord Dhandapani’s 15-inch bronze idol and a Trishul from Sri Arunachaleswarar temple to demand that, a separate department needed to be established if the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department wasn’t capable protecting the idols.

The lax behaviour of the authorities was also noted when one of the petitioners alleged that ancient idols worth Rs 7 crore were kept in a small room without any protection. Even two policemen who were tasked at guarding the room had been withdrawn.

As reported by Times of India, an audit by the HR&CE department had determined that at least 1200 ancient idols have been stolen from Tamil Nadu between 1992 and 2017 out of which 350 have been declared untraceable and only 18 have been retrieved.

The HR&CE department has administrative control of about 36.595 temples in the state.

NRC draft has come as a death knell for the already dwindling common sense of opinion makers

0

Indian politics has seen all kinds of exhibits and if minority appeasement was considered a fatal disease affecting political judgement, the NRC draft has almost come as a death knell for the already withering grey matter of the “opinion makers”. The publication of draft NRC list has brought out all sort of reactions. From TMC chief Mamata Banerjee who predicted ‘civil war’ and ‘bloodbath’ to Congress calling the NRC a politically motivated move by the BJP, the NRC has generated a lot of heat.

Amidst all this, the journalists who exude blinding brilliance and politicians who are a poster child for nepotism took this opportune time to exhibit how common sense and education are essential.

Abusive troll masquerading as a journalist, Swati Chaturvedi chose to compare proofs required to be shown proof of residence by people in Assam to determine their nationality with the educational degree of PM Modi and Smriti Irani which have been claimed by Aam Aadmi Party supporters as fake.

Swati, who probably attributes the figment of her fertile imagination to ‘sources’ in her ‘explosive articles’, speaking on proofs is a bit rich. Moving on to Barkha Dutt.

To her credit, Barkha Dutt does put out the disclaimer that she is not an expert on the NRC Assam. But she just compared Indians working on a legitimate work visa in the US to illegal immigrants from Bangladesh who may even have received election cards and have voted. And if for whatever reason, the United States decides to change its policies, Indians in the US on legitimate US visa will not be declared ‘illegal immigrants’. They will have to leave the country on expiry of their visa and they could either return back to India or move to another country of their choice, on a valid visa, of course.

And echoing Barkha Dutt’s views was fodder scam convict Lalu Yadav’s son Tejashwi Yadav.

To his credit, too, Tejashwi put out the disclaimer that he would voice his views once he examines the clauses. But he too compared Indians on legitimate and valid visas working or living elsewhere to illegal migrants.

Going by the trends, soon a narrative would be built to guilt Indians on the illegal immigrants’ issue by comparing the same with NRIs who are on completely legal documents on other countries.

As BJP men are killed, 80 members flee Bengal to take shelter in Jharkhand claiming threats

Reports have been coming over the past few months of BJP leaders fleeing West Bengal following threats by the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state. The Panchayat elections were mired in violence and alleged concerted attacks on opposition party candidates by the TMC and the ruling party won a great many seats uncontested as a consequence.

In its report, Times of India has mentioned that the state unit of the BJP in Jharkhand has provided shelter to at least 80 members of the party who were allegedly evicted from their villages by the TMC. “We have put them (gram panchayat members) up at Agrasen Dharamshala and Naya Bazaar Dharmshala in Chakulia,” TOI quoted BJP functionary Sameer Mahanty as saying. The report quotes another BJP leader, Abani Ghosh, from Jhargram as saying, “TMC leaders have been using threats to make us support their candidates as gram pradhans. They often barge into our houses at night and threaten that they will not spare us if we do not support their candidates. The pradhan poll process will continue until the middle of August.”

Talking to OpIndia, a BJP leader from Bengal confirmed that in most places, BJP leaders have been kept away from their constituencies after receiving threats from the TMC. He further asserted that the Police has been acting like the cadres of the Trinamool Congress. “Police Trinamool er cadre er bhoomika paalon korchhey (The Police is playing the role of TMC cadres in the state),” he said.

News of a BJP leader’s brutal murder in Bengal recently rocked the nation. Shaktipada Sardar from Mandir Bazaar in South 24 Paraganas was brutally hacked to death. Bengal BJP accused the TMC of murdering Sardar. In June, the body of Dulal Kumar was found hanging from an electric pole. In May, the body of BJP worker, Trilochan Mahto, was found hanging from a tree. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, had earlier said that he would make the Purulia district ‘Opposition Free.’
