Asaram had submitted favourable citation letters from many senior Congress leaders, SC threw them out

0

According to a report published in the Economic Times, self-styled godman Asaram had submitted to the court citation letters from former presidents KR Narayanan and APJ Abdul Kalam, former vice president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, and Congress leaders Digvijay Singh, Kamal Nath and Kapil Sibal, among others, to bolster his claim of having performed charitable acts over the years. However, the court, which sentenced him to life imprisonment for raping a minor girl, dismissed the citations saying Asaram had spoilt the name of saints among the people of the country.

These letters which were produced in the court praised him for working in tribal areas for the poor and stopping forced religious conversions. He accused the victim and her family of implicating him in the rape case for blackmailing him to cough up Rs 50 crore. But the court disbelieved such claims, terming them an afterthought.

“Such citation letters show that the accused is an influential and an immensely powerful person,” the court said in its detailed judgement, citing the letters furnished before it from personalities including former Haryana chief minister Bansi Lal and former governors Balram Jakhar and Sudarshan Agrawal, and veteran members of the Congress party.

This comes as an epiphany, since all this while it seems the Congress has been barking up the wrong tree. We had earlier reported that the Congress party had floated an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi when its official Twitter handle tweeted an old video showing PM Modi sharing the stage with Asaram. In its constant attempt to devalue Prime Minister’s image, the congressmen seem to deliberately remain amnesic.

The court clearly mentioned that the citation letter produced in court, was by Congress leaders Digvijay Singh, Kamal Nath and Kapil Sibal and few others, tried to prove the rapist Asaram, not guilty. In a constant quest to tarnish BJP’s reputation congressmen seem to obfuscate facts as a matter of habit.

Islamists demand that Ghaziabad rape victim, who is minor, be married off to her rapist

0

The recent rape of a 10-year old girl In Ghaziabad has shocked everyone. It has been alleged that the girl was held captive in a madrassa and that a Muslim cleric has been booked in connection with the crime. People have been wondering whether the heinous incident will spark a similar outrage in the country. However, the reaction thus far has been muted.

One of the justifications of the muted reaction by those who brought religious angle in the Kathua rape case, has been that there has been no support for the alleged rapists. However, unfortunately, this is not true. Some Muslims have taken to social media, especially Twitter, to defend not only the rapist, but to claim that the rape was ‘fake news’. They have resorted to calling the rape a ‘love affair’ and are demanding that the victim — a minor not even in her teenage — be married off to the rapist.

People are visibly outraged over the shameful defense of rape by some on social media.

Such comments have been left by many other Islamists on Facebook too giving the entire affair a sickening angle, which not only aim to downplay the reported incident of rape inside a Madarsa, but legitimizes sex with a minor and child marriage.

While the Islamists are claiming on social media that the 10-year-old girl has in her statement denied rape, media reports have earlier confirmed that the girl had given a statement confirming rape, after which a juvenile and a Maulvi were detained. Father of the girl has also accused the Maulvi of being involved in the sexual assault.

Rather unsurprisingly, this support by some Muslims for the rapist has not been highlighted by the mainstream media, which termed any demand of CBI inquiry in the Kathua incident as a ‘pro-rapist’ stand.

Usual elements share photoshopped image of TOI headline to undermine Modi-XI meet

0

An alleged headline of a Times of India article has been doing the rounds on social media which mocked the meet between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The headline read, “Modi, Xi will mate 6 times in 24 hours”.

The headline was shared by the usual people including the Executive Editor at the Caravan, Vinod K. Jose, and disgraced former IPS Officer, Sanjiv Bhatt.

However, today the official Twitter handle of Times of India tweeted a clarification over the matter and stated that the ridiculous headline doing the rounds was photoshopped. As evidence, they presented images of the correct headline and asserted that all their editions carry the correct headline.

A trend has emerged in recent times where the usual elements try to undermine Prime Minister Modi’s meets with leaders of powerful nations by concerted attempts at mocking Narendra Modi. Recently, the Congress party had attempted to undermine Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s historic visit to India by tweeting a juvenile video of the Indian PM hugging world leaders. Congress had also attempted to drag domestic politics into Japanese PM Shinzo Abe’s diplomatic visit to India while claiming credit for the Bullet Train and slamming Narendra Modi for it simultaneously.

Narendra Modi is in China for a bilateral meet between the two countries after the relationship between the two countries became considerably strained during the Doklam dispute. The Indian Prime Minister and Chinese President will discuss matters of global importance and Indo-China relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective during what is being dubbed a “heart-to-heart” meeting.

PIL filed in SC against contemptuous remarks made by lawyers and politicians on Judiciary

0

Lawyer Gaurav Bhatia had yesterday moved to the Supreme Court with allegations that several lawyers and politicians are regularly making contemptuous remarks against the judiciary. According to reports, Gaurav Bhatia, who is also a BJP spokesperson, has filed a PIL seeking contempt of court action against these people who have made adverse remarks on the judiciary on social and mainstream media platforms.

A Supreme Court bench comprising of CJI Deepak Mishra, Justice AM Khanwalikar and Justice DY Chandrachud reportedly stated that they will hear the petition next week. Bhatia has reportedly cited various material available on social media where lawyers and politicians had attempted to taint the sanctity of the judiciary and put baseless allegations. Tweets by Congress social media head Divya Spandana is also reportedly cited by Bhatia in his PIL.

Bhatia has reportedly stated that certain unsavoury and uncharitable remarks are being made by advocates and political activists and they should be taken note of by the judiciary as they are contemptuous in nature. In the recent verdict in Judge Loya death case, the Supreme Court had remarked that it was just inches away from initiation contempt of court action against some of the lawyers for their constant contemptuous behaviour and disregard for the judicial process.

It is notable here that Congress party MPs including prominent lawyer Kapil Sibal had moved an impeachment motion against CJI Deepak Mishra. The motion was rejected by Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on grounds that the allegations hold no merit and the attempts are only politically motivated to malign the sanctity of the SC. The impeachment motion and current errant and rude behaviour of lawyers was also condemned by senior lawyers. Finance Minister and prominent Lawyer Arun Jaitley had also called out the tactics of maligning the SC as politically motivated attempts.

Watch how Siddaramaiah himself strikes a blow to the ‘divide Hindus’ policy of his govt

The Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday was cornered by BJP Karnataka over the Lingayat issue, with the latter tweeting out a video which supposedly exposes the former’s hypocrisy over the matter.

Back in March, the Congress government in Karnataka had recommended that the Lingayat community, be given a separate minority religion tag, thereby separating them from the mainstream Hindu religion. This recommendation was seen by many as being a divide and conquer policy by the Congress party, in a desperate bid to retain power in the southern state.

This “Lingayats are not Hindu” stance of the Siddaramaiah led Congress government has now suffered a blow in form of the Karnataka Chief Minister himself contradicting the narrative, in a video put out by the Karnataka BJP twitter account:

In the video shared by BJP Karnataka, Siddaramaiah while talking about the minority tag given to the Lingayat community, immediately contradicts himself by commenting that the community too comes under the Hindu fold.

Such an admission by Siddaramaiah raises the question as to why did the Congress government try to cast the Lingayats as some separate religious entity when by their own leader’s admission, they are part of Hinduism.

Also, this tweet by the BJP Karnataka twitter account isn’t the only time they have taken social media by storm. We had reported how controversial ‘celebrity’ Raghu Ram was thumped by a tweet from the account when he tried to abusively attack them.

This has been followed by various witty and tongue-in-cheek remarks from the handle, thereby making it pretty well known on social media.

Comparing Hindutva to the Ku Klux Klan is nothing but shameless propaganda

0

A trend has emerged over recent years to find an equivalent of monotheistic fundamentalism in the faith of polytheistic Hinduism. The saffron terror narrative of the Congress party might have collapsed but people of a particular political ideology haven’t deterred from their efforts to find in pagan Hinduism the most nefarious aspects of monotheistic faiths.

In a recent issue of Outlook magazine, an attempt was made to equate Hindutva with the vicious ideology of the Ku Klux Klan by having the cover of the issue portray a member of the white supremacist American outfit sporting a Tilak. Needless to say, there is no equivalent of the Ku Klux Klan in India just as there exists no saffron terror. Those who genuinely believe that Hindutva could be equated with an ideology that asserts the supremacy of a particular race fails spectacularly at grasping the core tenets of the Hindu faith.

The difference in the worldview of monotheistic faiths and polytheism is so vast that liberals have to rely on Abrahamic terminology to describe the intolerance in the Hindu faith. For instance, intellectuals like Tufail Ahmed, who change loyalties faster than a chameleon changes its colours, have resorted to using the term ‘Abrahamic Hindutva’ to adequately describe the intolerance in the Hindutva camp. Also, when trying to assert that Hindutvavadis will spell the doom for the country, it is always stated that India will turn into a Hindu version of Pakistan if Hindutva is allowed to hold its sway over the masses. The obvious reason for this is there exists no instance in history when polytheistic faiths have displayed the same degree of intolerance towards monotheists or other polytheistic faiths as the monotheists have exhibited towards polytheists throughout the centuries since its advent. Of course, one could argue that Japan did resort to drastic measures to preserve its cultural heritage but then the continued existence of Shintoism in Japan could be attributed to the intolerance that was displayed during those fateful years.

Racial supremacy has never been a core tenet of polytheistic faiths in its entire history. Yes, the Greeks and the Romans did practice slavery, however, it was never the defining aspect of their culture or faith. In contrast to that, monotheistic faiths have continually harboured and encouraged sentiments of racial supremacy through its concept of the ‘chosen people’. In this day and age, it can be most blatantly observed in Islam where the Arabs believe in the superiority of their race as a consequence of the ancestry of the Prophet of Islam. It has surely not escaped the notice of people that when a particular community converts to Islam en masse, they give up on their own heritage and adopt the traditions and customs of the Arabs so much that they could even be dubbed pirated Arabs. And if we look back at history, we can observe that white supremacy stems in part from Christian theology as well.

Thus, racial supremacy is so alien to the Hindu faith that only a fool or the ideologically blinded would equate the Ku Klux Klan with Hindutva. History stands testament to the fact that Hindus, by and large, have existed together without enmity to any serious degree for hundreds and thousands of years. Despite the atrocity literature spread by vested interests, Hindu society has never witnessed a race war or a caste war ever in its ancient history. Of course, liberals are working hard to change that fact by continuously fueling regionalist and casteist sentiments to divide Hindu society but despite various political leaders’ attempt at inciting violence along caste lines, they have failed spectacularly thus far and the riots and violence that did occur was more due to political motivations rather than any indication of a deep fissure within Hindu society.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has been falsely equated with the Islamic State by certain ideologues to tarnish its reputation. And now, Hindutva has been equated with the Ku Klux Klan as well. In their desperation to paint all religions in same colours, liberals have lost all sense of proportion. Hinduism will pale in comparison to the extent of violence that monotheists have perpetuated in the past few centuries, let alone since the advent of monotheism. The attempts that we see today to equate Hindutva with the most vicious aspects of monotheism is merely to shame Hindus into not being politically aware. For Hindutva is nothing more than the political wing of Hinduism, it is the politically aware and assertive aspect of Sanatana Dharma.

It isn’t to say that polytheistic faiths are not capable of intolerance or embracing violence. Our religious scriptures are littered with instances where ancient Heroes have resorted to violence to uphold Dharma. However, violence was embraced only to protect Dharma, not to assert the supremacy of a particular race or in service of a particular manner a worship. Also, intolerance is an integral part of human nature. As Michael Dibdin says in his book ‘Dead Lagoon’, “There can be no true friends without true enemies. Unless we hate what we are not, we cannot love who we are. These are the old truths we are painfully rediscovering after a century and more of sentimental cant. Those who deny them deny their family, their heritage, their culture, their birthright, their very selves! They will not lightly be forgiven.”

The fundamental ethos of polytheism paves the way for peaceful coexistence between devotees of different Gods. It’s testament to the virtues of polytheism that even after centuries of monotheistic dominance, the world yearns for times when every God is worshipped without fear of violence, where all manner of worship is tolerated, where different Gods and their devotees can coexist peacefully and in harmony, just as it was when polytheism dominated the world.

ED attaches land of Robert Vadra’s alleged aide in Bikaner land scam case

0

The Enforcement Directorate yesterday attached land belonging to Jaiprakash Bagarwa, who is believed to be an aide of Robert Vadra. According to reports, the central probe agency had yesterday seized a parcel of land measuring 18 beegha which were in the name of Jaiprakash’s wife Raju Devi.

Earlier on April 19, ED had reportedly attached another property belonging to Jaiprakash. The attachments have been done in connection with the Bikaner Land Scam case. In the Bikaner land scam, some fraudulent individuals, including real estate developers, in collusion with state government officials had got land allotted in the names of non-existent individuals. The land was actually meant for the people displaced for the construction of the Mahajan Field Firing Range. A total of 1422 beegha land has been reportedly grabbed in this manner.

Jaiprakash Bagarwa and another person Ashok Kumar have been arrested by ED in December 2017 in the same case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. In February 2018, ED had reportedly conducted raids in the Faridabad premises of Congress leader Mahesh Nagar in connection with the land scam. Mahesh Nagar was reportedly the official representative of Skylight Hospitality, a real estate firm Robert Vadra is associated with. Skylight Hospitality is believed to have purchased 275 beegha land in Bikaner’s Kolayat area. The ED had lodged a criminal complaint against the firm after taking into account the FIR lodged by Rajasthan Government after the local tehsil complained of forgery in the said purchase.

Skylight Hospitality has also been allegedly involved in similar transactions in Haryana and a probe was earlier recommended by the Justice SN Dhingra commission against Bhupinder Singh Hooda alleging that Hooda and some of his government officials have been involved in suspicious land deals with Skylight Hospitality. Skylight Hospitality is also under Income Tax scanner for alleged irregularities in financial transactions in their land deals in Rajasthan and Haryana.

Robert Vadra is reportedly a partner in Skylight Hospitality. The firm has been under the lens for several tax irregularities and land scam complaints. Priyanka Vadra, Robert Vadra’s wife and daughter of Congress ex-President Sonia Gandhi has also been under the scanner for shady land deals in Haryana under the Congress rule.

Sister of deceased Latvian woman accuses Kerala police of shocking apathy

0

The Kerala police has been accused of apathy by the sister of a deceased Latvian woman, who was recently found dead in the state. The corpse of the Latvian woman speculated to be a 33 year old Liga Skromane was recovered from a riverbank in Kerala’s Thiruvallam, where it was found hanging upside down in the bushes. It was reported that Liga had gone missing from an Ayurvedic clinic on 14 March.

Following this, her heartbroken sister Ilze Skromane identified the body, with the police proceeding to conduct postmortem and DNA tests on the corpse. After the discovery, the police had assumed that Liga had committed suicide, which was disputed by the family. The family in-turn alleged that she was murdered and accused the Kerala police of being lax in pursuing the case.

The sister Ilze accused the Kerala police of carrying out an investigation which wasn’t backed by evidence. She was even quoted as accusing the Kerala police of laughing at them, while they were at the police station:

Following this, the Kerala police seems to have gone into damage control mode. In the statements released by the police’s communication department’s they claim to have taken all possible steps on the complaint regarding Liga’s disappearance. After recovering the body they claim to have initiated scientific investigation to uncover her cause of death.

They also claimed that a special team comprising of 10 police officials was commissioned to probe the matter, who then searched 245 hotels in Kovalam, questioned 375 people and inspected CCTV footage and call records. They also claimed that the probe was streamlined after Liga’s family met the state police chief.

Despite battling violence, BJP projected to make strong gains in West Bengal Zilla Parishad polls

0

The upcoming West Bengal Panchayat polls have been marred by violence and attack on BJP workers, allegedly perpetrated by the TMC goons. There have also been various reports of TMC goons attacking BJP candidates going to file nominations for the Panchayat polls. This has resulted in the party taking a contingent of electoral violence victims to President Kovind, to appraise him of the situation.

Despite such setbacks, the BJP might end up doing well in the said polls if a ABP Ananda – C Voter survey is to be believed.

As per the survey, the TMC is predicted to win the majority of the 825 Zilla Parishad seats, but BJP too is expected to make a significant entry into the state.

According to reports, the TMC is set to win 538 out of the total 825. BJP has been predicted to win 167 seats. The erstwhile ruling CPI(M) and left parties have been predicted to win about 73 seats while the Congress may end up being at the bottom with just 43 seats.

If this indeed turns out to be true, it might signal a strong upswing in the BJP’s fortune in West Bengal. Back in 2013, out of the 825 Zilla Parishads, the TMC had won 531, the left won 213, Congress won 77 and the BJP won virtually none.

Since the first opinion polls were aired on 2 April the BJP has reportedly gained 2% of the vote share, with the party doing well in districts like 24 Parganas, Nadia and Cooch Bihar. Congress and the left parties have seen a loss in their vote shares.

With the BJP emerging as the single largest opposition party in the polls, speculations are rife that it might cause concern for TMC chief Mamata Banerjee for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

As of today, state BJP leaders met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh regarding the ongoing violence in the state.

The Kolkata High Court had earlier issued a stay order on the panchayat election. The state government had informed the Election Commission that it wants a single phase Panchayat elections on 14th May. As per latest news reports, the Election Commission has accepted the request. The counting of the votes will happen on May 17th.

Congress leader Kamal Nath accused by rivals of having a role in 1984 riots, becomes party’s MP chief

0

According to reports it is now a settled affair that Congress leader Kamal Nath will head the party in Madhya Pradesh in the run-up to the state elections due this year. It is claimed that the Congress high command took almost a year to arrive at this decision, given the tussle for supremacy between the party’s young and old guard.

Young leader and party chief whip in Lok Sabha Jyotiraditya Scindia was contending with Nath for the top Congress job, a keen battle that supposedly resulted in the decision being delayed by almost a year. Scindia also led the Congress charge in key by-polls that the party won.

Scindia is likely to be named the chairman of the campaign committee, while senior leader and former chief minister Digvijaya Singh would be the chairman of the coordination committee, claimed reports. Its also believed that Kamal Nath also had the backing of Senior congress leader Digvijay Singh.

The Congress has been out of power in Madhya Pradesh for 14 years and hopes to capitalise on the anti-incumbency of the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government. The party believes Kamal Nath, known for his shrewd manoeuvring skills, may come in handy against Chouhan, who is known for his excellent connect with the people.

This isn’t the first time Veteran congress leader Kamal Nath has made headlines for election responsibilities entrusted to him. In 2016 Nath was appointed as the Punjab in-charge ahead of the state elections which prompted rival political parties to rake rake up his alleged role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Following this controversy, Nath soon resigned from his Punjab post. This led the BJP to allege that his resignation proved his complicity in the riots.

1984 riots though continue to haunt Nath. Back in January, in light of the Supreme Court’s decision to re-probe 186 cases connected to the riots, the Supreme court advocate HS Phoolka slammed him by commenting that the law would soon catch up with “powerful and influential people like Congress leader Kamal Nath”.
