TMC leader calls triple talaq verdict ‘unconstitutional’, says courts can’t interfere in matters of Islam

0

Trinamool Congress MLA and West Bengal Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind President has described the Supreme Court verdict on instant triple talaq “unconstitutional” saying that the court and the government have no right to “interfere in internal matters of Islam”.

Chowdhary, who is also the Library and Mass Education Minister in the Mamata government, said, “The verdict given by the Supreme Court is unconstitutional and we will not abide by it. Our central committee will meet today in Delhi to decide our future course of action in this regard.”

He added that triple talaq is “mentioned in Quran, and we will abide by it”.

He even went on to blame the BJP government for banning triple talaq and said they would move a review petition before the Constitution bench of the Supreme Court. He said Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind does not accept this verdict and will continue with triple talaq. He further added that only minuscule population, about 3 percent of Muslim population, suffer from triple talaq. However, he did acknowledge that these views are his and not of Trinamool Congress.

Earlier, TMC ministers Partha Chatterjee and Firhad Hakikm had opposed the uniform civil code in favour of triple talaq. They had taunted the BJP for falling short of requisite numbers in the Rajya Sabha to bring about a change in existing laws.

On Tuesday, in a landmark judgement, the apex court had abolished the practice of instant triple talaq, calling it arbitrary and against the tenets of Islam. And while most hailed it as a victory and considered it as an empowering step for Muslim women, a lot seemed unhappy about it.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is quick to react to all quick developments, has maintained silence over this verdict even as she welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on Right to Privacy being a fundamental right.

In Mamata’s Bengal, news channel banned as its Facebook page had ‘offensive’ comments by people

0

If there is one thing the Mamata Banerjee government excels at, it is crawling the social media and keeping a vigilant eye for all things that could possibly show her government in bad light, and then instead of weeding out the cause, just ban it.

It has been a month since West Bengal government has banned ABN News Network, the only Nepali language satellite channel in India, alleging that telecasting footage of Darjeeling unrest fanned hatred in the hills. The news referred to the 21st July pro-Gorkhaland khukhri-rally. Khukhri is a traditional Nepali knife and one of the symbols used by protestors demanding a separate state since early this June.

The order served by district magistrate of Jalpaiguri, Rachna Bhagat said that the channel’s news were promoting enmity between communities, especially after being shared on the social media. The complaints that led to banning of the channel reportedly focused on the ‘objectionable comments’ left by users on the Facebook page of the channel.

Representatives of the news channel claim that they had even deleted many comments, and that they should not be held responsible for what the public is saying. However, this failed to convince the administration and the channel remains off air.

This control on internet and media is unfortunately not new for the Mamata government. Many pro-Gorkhaland Facebook pages have reportedly been banned and the news from the hills are actively suppressed, critics claim.

This high-handed behaviour of the government is not limited only to the ongoing Gorkhaland protests. Earlier, the state police had preferred arresting a minor for an allegedly provocative post on Facebook to taking action against rioters inuldge in arson. Last year, an FIR was filed against Zee News reporters for covering Dhulagarh riots.

Things were taken to absurd level last month when a photograph of someone praying in a temple posted on Twitter was allegedly seen as a threat to peace in Bengal.

Unfortunately, these illiberal developments don’t cause a huge hue and cry nationwide, especially among the ‘liberal’ media and chatterati, as Mamata Banerjee is seen as a ‘secular’ challenger to Narendra Modi.

Sonia and Mayawati to not attend Lalu’s ‘Desh Bachao, Bhajpa Bhagao’ rally

In some disheartening news for Lalu Yadav and his supporters, Sonia Gandhi became the second top leader after Mayawati who has decided to skip Lalu’s anti-BJP rally. On 27th August, Lalu has organised a “Desh Bachao, Bhajpa Bhagao” rally in Patna.

According to media reports, even Rahul Gandhi would be unable to attend the rally. Sonia now has nominated Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and CP Joshi to attend the same. The rally in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan was seen as an attempt to forge an alliance of like-minded opposition parties to take on the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Among the leaders who have confirmed their participation are, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and JD(U) rebel, Sharad Yadav.

Lalu while speaking to the media confirmed the absence of Soina and Mayawati while stating that the latter would be sending Satish Mishra to represent her. He also dismissed Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Modis appeal to put off the rally in view of the devastating floods in Bihar due to which at least 341 people have died so far.

Lalu reportedly stated that Sushil Modi should not teach him things and asked whether the rally’s postponement would end the floods.

He in the same press conference also reportedly attacked JD(U) spokespersons who were defending Nitish in the ‘Srijan scam’, by calling them Alsatian dogs.

This isn’t the only time the opposition failed to rise above their squabbles to put up a united front. Recently Nitish Kumar who was then a key part of the “Mahagathbandhan” had announced his support for the NDA Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind and later decided to switch sides itself and join the BJP’s alliance.

The opposition has also in the past boycotted possible partners like the AAP whose Supremo Arvind Kejriwal is a bitter critic of PM Modi and could have aided the opposition’s attack on the ruling BJP government.

Only a few days back, BSP had disowned its verified Twitter account after it shared a picture showing opposition unity where Mayawati and Akhilesh were together along with Lalu and Sonia.

Newslaundry columnist asks a Sikh man supporting Hindu festivals to give up Sikhism

0

On Wednesday, West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stirred up a storm after applying restrictive conditions on the immersion of Maa Durga idols this Dashami. According to ANI, immersion would only be allowed till 6:00 PM on Dashami and be resumed only from 2nd October due to the Muharram procession.

This outraged many people online and one of them was Tajinder Bagga, who is the spokesperson of Delhi BJP. Bagga decided to protest against such clamping down on the Hindu festivals by the Mamata government:

Bagga, who happens to be a Sikh, in his tweets reiterated that Hindus had the right to celebrate their festivals and dared the Mamata government to stop the visarjan. He also stated that he would personally stay present in Bengal this Dashami to ensure no disruption occurs.

This vocal support for Hindus by a Sikh deeply pained a Newslaundry columnist named Jaspreet Oberoi, who decided to attack him and Hinduism:

Jaspreet, who goes by the name of Jas Oberoi, was then given a befitting response by Bagga, who also tagged Newslaundry’s Editor-in-chief Madhu Trehan to make her aware about the antics of her columnist:

The Hinduphobic and communal comment by the Newslaundry columnist was also bashed by other twitter users:

But rather than apologising for his attack, the Newslaundry columnist made further personal attacks on Bagga and users opposing his bigotry.

Rather than putting the troll columnist in the dock (who might just enjoy the attention), it might be more prudent to ask as to whether Newslaundry approves of his vicious trolling. And if not, does it plan to take any suitable action against him? People might also question as to what did Newslaundry see in the troll, that it decided to make him their columnist?

Questions might be also raised as to why has Newslaundry chosen to give space to his articles such as this, where he demonises legendary police officer KPS Gill, who was one of the key persons responsible for stopping the Khalistani insurgency.

It also remains to be seen if Madhu Trehan and Newslaundry condemn this unsolicited heckling by their troll columnist or whether they choose not to react, which some might consider to be a case of silent approval.

Father of 2 Spanish terrorists claims they were radicalised by their Imam who masterminded the attack

0

Recently Spain witnessed a chain of terror attacks. On Thursday terrorists drove a van into a pedestrians which killed at-least 13 people and injured 100 more at La Rambla in Barcelona. On Wednesday an explosion took place in the town of Alcanar which destroyed a building, killing a man. Later on Thursday the police killed 5 terrorists in Cambrils who attacked  pedestrians with an axe and knife. The Spanish Prime Minister openly called it a Jihadi attack.

Such form of crude terror attacks have now become rampant in Europe in the past 13 months and have killed about 130 people in France, Germany, Britain, Sweden and Spain.

Now as news keeps coming out about the attack, the father of the two dead Spanish terrorists named Said Aallaa and Youssef Aallaa who were killed in Cambrils and at an explosion at a bomb factory in Alcanar respectively has claimed that their minds were poisoned by a radical Imam. According to the report, the father pinned the blame on the Imam named Abdelbaki Es Satty who preached for two years at a mosque in Ripoll where incidentally 11 of the 12 attackers lived.

The report claimed that the Imam Es Satty, whose mosque was raided by the police, was linked to the Al-Qaeda and was also connected to the terrorists responsible for the 2004 Madrid train bombings. One local shop owner in the area claimed that families had become more hardlined ever since the Imam had arrived in town. This increased orthodoxy included young women starting to wear the Hijab even though they had never done so before. Families of the other attackers too acknowledged that there was a spike in religiousness of their wards. The imam in question incidentally vanished from the town last week but is believed to have died in that explosion in Alcanar and is believed to have masterminded the whole attack.

According to latest reports, the Imam had gone to jail in the past for smuggling drugs between Spain and Morocco. For this crime he was ordered to return to Morocco but when he left jail in 2014 he won an appeal against the deportation. There he had argued that his International rights would have been breached by the order. He then sought asylum later that year due to which he was allowed free movement in 26 European states.

This Spanish attacks weren’t the lone instance of terror and they were closely followed by attacks in Finland and Russia.

On Friday at about 4 PM the Finnish town of Turku experienced a knife attack where the armed assailant had resulted in the death of 2 women and injuries to 8 people. This attack was soon suspected to be an act of terror and a journalist also claimed that the attacker was shouting “God is great” in Arabic. The police apprehended a certain Abderrahman Mechkah who is a 18 year old Asylum seeker from Morocco, in connection with the crime.

Russia too was not spared from such an attack. On Saturday, 7-8 people were injured in a knife attack at the Siberian city of Surgut. According to the report, local police claimed to have shot down the attacker and the responsibility for the same was taken by the Islamic State.

How an unverified picture about Doklam made it to Times Group’s newspaper and news channel

0

Early morning on 19th August, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari tweeted two pictures saying these are sent to him by a friend claiming these are the roads are from the Indian side to Doklam and are in “pathetic” condition:

Seeing the pictures, Bhutanese journalist Tenzing Lamsang quoted the tweet and called it as final stretch of road to Doklam, which could be in Sikkim:

In subsequent tweet, he clarified that his tweet about probable place where the picture might be clicked was based on the photograph tweeted by the Congress spokesperson. That he was just making an educated guess:

He said he it could be last stretch of road from Indian side based on the vegetation seen in the picture:

Tewari immediately held on to the first tweeet by Lamsang and said how the Bhutanese journalist “confirmed” that this is Indian road:

He conveniently missed out the part where the picture was sent to him “by his friend on ground”. It was now somehow the responsibility of the Bhutanese journalist, even though he had clarified that he was ‘comfortably based’ in Thimpu and not confirming anything about the ground situation in or around Doklam.

Soon, Times of India, in its 21st August edition printed the above picture claiming Bhutanese journalist Tenzing Lamsang tweeted the said picture.

Picture tweeted by a Congress leader is being claimed as picture tweeted by a Bhutanese journalist

Tenzing Lamsang even tweeted to Times of India about the error, giving them benefit of doubt that they might have assumed he tweeted the picture since Congress Spokesperson Manish Tewari had retweeted his tweet:

But that still wasn’t enough. Not only did Times of India not acknowledge the error, their news channel, Times Now, even ran an exclusive video of how they have access to Indian side of Doklam giving ‘credit’ to Tenzing Lamsang for the pictures:

In their defence, they did say how Times Now cannot verify these images, which they claimed were of Chinese army vehicles moving inside Doklam region.

(Please note, the narrative has changed from exclusive image of Indian side of Doklam to Chinese army invading Indian side of Doklam – all over unverified images.)

Tenzing Lamsang, on his side, cried himself hoarse that Times of India has got the story completely wrong, but it all fell on deaf ears.

In a Facebook post, he lashed out against The Times of India for misreporting on Bhutan:

Bhutanese journalist lashes out at Indian journalism

He even requested Times of India and Times Now to correct their “blunder” but no such correction seems to have been made.

At a time when Doklam is a sensitive issue concerning India, such casual attitude of a leading media house is really unfortunate.

Parents of Mulayam’s daughter-in-law accused of grabbing land worth Rs 100 crore during Akhilesh regime

0

In another controversy which has hit the Yadav family in Uttar Pradesh, reports have claimed that parents of Aparna Yadav, who is married to Mulayam Singh Yadav’s younger son Prateek Yadav, had grabbed land worth Rs 100 crore during the erstwhile Akhilesh regime.

According to the report, the mother of Aparna, who is deputy secretary in the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), fraudulently allocated the land belonging to LDA to Aparna’s father, Arvind Bisht. LDA has reportedly recommended action against 3 of its officials including Ambi Bisht. Arvind Bisht is currently the state information commissioner.

The accusation is that Ambi Bisht had allotted a 12,000 sq ft plot situated at a prime location in Lucknow to her husband Arvind Singh Bisht using forged documents. Ambi allegedly created a duplicate file via forged papers to prove her husband’s ownership.

This was reportedly revealed when the registrar was contacted, after which LDA was informed that there was no such property record. Apart from Ambi Bisht, action has been recommended against then project officer Seema Agrawal and section officer Devendra Lal.

Ambi Bisht has now reportedly denied the allegations and has claimed that the controversy was being created because of political reasons. She has alleged that it was an attempt to malign both the families.

She claimed that the land belonged to a certain Nazrul Trust, from which her husband had leased it for the past several years. The lease incidentally was renewed by her in 2015, when she was looking after the work of leased properties. This step according to her was also approved by senior officials. Then she had reportedly sent a request to the CM’s office to make it a freehold property; that is the owner of the property won’t have any time-limit on the land ownership.

She further claims that they applied to cancel the lease when they found there was encroachment on the land. This cancellation supposedly wasn’t approved and it was in this year May, that they surrendered the lease deed.

A further investigation in this matter has been launched by the Yogi government.

This isn’t the only time Aparna Yadav has been in the news for the wrong reasons. Last month, an RTI query had revealed that 86% of the funds reserved for the NGOs carrying cow welfare activities were granted to an NGO run by her. Reportedly the state government’s Gau Sewa Aayog had sanctioned a total amount of Rs 9.66 crores from 2012-2017 out of which 8.35 crore or about 86.4% were sanctioned to Jeev Ashraya, the NGO of Aparna Yadav.

Aparna though at that time had decided to come up with a simple defence by asking that if some organisation was doing good work, why shouldn’t it be helped out financially.

Dear liberals, BJP is treating Triple Talaq verdict as their victory because you are treating it as your defeat

Suffice to say that the landmark judgement of the Supreme Court yesterday did not please everyone. Even as millions of Muslim women celebrated a huge step towards their freedom, the leading lights of India’s secular brigade went into a bout of whining, complaining, and spouting whataboutery.

One of the biggest complaints of ‘liberals’ was that the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were appropriating “credit” for the Supreme Court judgement. See an example here:

All Nidhi Razdan cares about is that BJP should not take credit

Well, to be fair, the Central Government argued in the Supreme Court against Triple Talaq and so there should be no problem with them claiming their fair share of the credit.

But let’s not get into all those details here. Let’s ask the big, broad question:

Hey liberals, why all the glum faces?

What is holding you back? Is this not a great moment for gender justice? Why not just celebrate?

Instead, the secular brigade seemed to be snapping in frustration.

Whataboutery by Yogendra Yadav

Some had to scratch their itch to make tasteless digs about the personal life of the Prime Minister, which involves child marriage:

So-called comedian tries to earn liberal brownie points by attacking personal life of Narendra Modi

Hey liberals, have you considered the possibility that the reason BJP is running away with the credit for this judgement is that you seem to be treating it as your personal defeat?

Why the confusion, backbiting and whining in liberal circles? In what is perhaps a first, we had the leftists at the propaganda blog Scroll were left wringing their hands about “politically correct issues”.

Leftist propaganda blog Scroll rues

Reading those words, it seems like the leftists are almost complaining that “political correctness” has kept them from saying what they really felt about yesterday’s judgement!

Leftists just found out that political correctness can be real frustrating. We’ve finally reached peak irony. What a day to be alive …

Why is the left behaving like a deer in headlights? Newslaundry had nothing better to do than obsessively scratching its Arnab itch.

Newslaundry reduced to being a troll website

Why is the left so “triggered”? Why is yesterday’s judgement bringing out their most obsessive-compulsive behaviors and activating their nervous defense mechanisms?

Dear leftists, please take a deep breath and try to calm down. It’s gonna be okay. This is not that childhood nightmare where you walk into class and realize that you forgot about an exam that day. This is supposed to be a good thing. You are going to be just fine.

We’re having a party and you are welcome to join. Come on in.

Instead liberals just went into their shell. Some are indulging in Hindu bashing. Some are making jokes on the Prime Minister’s child marriage. Some are scratching their Arnab itch. What to say…

The same sense of gloom seemed to prevail in Opposition ranks. While BJP President Amit Shah read out a celebratory statement, the Congress sent out a low level functionary to “welcome” the judgement in the most terse terms possible. Barely a week ago, when the Prime Minister had mentioned the plight of triple talaq victims in his Independence Day address, the Congress seemed to wince in pain. Like this:

Tweet by Manish Tiwari

We also had to wait a long time for Rahul Gandhiji, otherwise known for his emphasis on “women empowerment”, to put out his solitary tweet on this issue.

Tweet by Rahul Gandhi

This from the Congress Vice President. Of course, we do not even expect the inaccessible Congress President to actually speak on any issue. Other leaders of secular parties were mostly missing in action, of course.

Perhaps the real reason BJP is running away with the credit on the Triple Talaq issue is that Indian secularism has been so pathetic over the last seven decades. Narendra Modi does not have to do much, if anything at all, to be seen as champion of justice here.

He just doesn’t have to show rampant disregard for the courts and constitution for the sake of votebank politics.  You know, like not following in the footsteps of Bharat Ratna Prime Ministers who passed laws to take justice away from an elderly Muslim woman.

Our Indian secularism has such low standards that Narendra Modi should be a champion today simply because he isn’t going to pass a law bending the Supreme Court verdict to the will of the Mullahs.

Who is responsible for turning Indian secularism into such a joke over 70 years? You tell me, dear leftists…

And so it is today that for 85 million Muslim women of India, Narendra Modi has emerged as the brother they never had.

Bhutanese journalist slams Indian magazine for biased report helping China

0

On Tuesday, Tenzing Lamsang, a Bhutanese journalist who is editor-in-chief of the newspaper TheBhutanese, tweeted the cover story of an Indian magazine The Week, and termed it disrespectful (presumably towards Bhutanese people) and distasteful:

The story is on Doklam standoff by The Week comes at a time when India is in a delicate position regarding the Bhutan region strategically located located at the Sikkim-Bhutan-Tibet tri-junction.

The cover story in the magazine, which is titled “Dangerous Liaison” goes on to talk how Bhutan seems to be drifting away from India. The story say that even ‘senior officials’ are in awe of China’s charm, thus suggesting a diplomatic shift.

So is India losing the plot in Doklam? That’s what the cover story suggests, which was trashed by the senior Bhutanese journalist.

Let us see why.

In the article, the reporter Rabi Banerjee reaches out to the Bhutan Prime Minister’s office, seeking an appointment, but he is cautioned that nothing on Doklam will be discussed. Considering the gravity of the situation, it is hardly surprising. Bhutan wants to use only official diplomatic channels to communicate.

But the article quotes an unnamed senior government official, who apparently claimed that Bhutan has refused to make any anti-China statements in India’s support because India had not withdrawn fully from Doklam despite an alleged request from Bhutan to do so.

To know more about “Bhutan’s refusal to stand with India”, the reporter decided to meet the Information Minister of Bhutan, D. N. Dhungyel. This is what happened (quoted from the article):

Since it was Saturday, an official holiday, I went to his residence. The security staff let me in after I told them that I was from India and had come to schedule an appointment with the minister.

Dhungyel was not at home. He came back half an hour later and was surprised to see me. He was incensed when I told him that I wanted to discuss India-Bhutan relations. “How dare you come to my residence and talk on this subject?” asked the minister.

When I told him that the prime minister’s office had advised me to meet him, he wanted to know whether I had sought permission from the Bhutanese embassy in Delhi. It was clear that Dhungyel was afraid of discussing Doklam. “Two big nations are fighting and we are caught in the middle. Shouldn’t we feel scared? Definitely we are. We have decided not to utter a word over the issue. You may want us to talk, but we will not do so, never,” he said.

Before I could finish the tea that his daughter had served, the minister asked me to leave. As I started walking to the gate, dodging two dogs that chased me, I could hear the minister scolding his guards for letting me in.

There are multiple things wrong with this kind of reporting. The Bhutanese government has made it very clear they are not giving any official statement on the Doklam standoff. Why is the need to reach out to the Information Minister, that too at his residence, without any official appointment?

Nonetheless, from the only thing Dhungyel is quoted to have said, it is clear that Bhutan doesn’t want to rub either India or China the wrong way. Sensible thing to do for a tiny nation literally caught between two giants. Yet, the reporter wants to use it as a “proof” of Bhutan’s “refusal” to stand with India, and as a sign of Bhutan and China developing friendship.

The reporter then reaches out to Lyonpo Jigme Zangpo, the speaker of the Bhutanese National Assembly, who the reporter claims is next only to the King in terms of stature and protocol. The speaker too chides the reporter for ‘barging in’ and reiterates that the official response was to not issue any statement.

So two named officials declined to say anything, while one unnamed one claims that Bhutan is not happy with China. This was claimed as senior officials being in awe of China’s charm.

To further the assertion that Bhutan and China are developing friendship, the report in The Week quotes a ‘blogger’ who accuses India of ‘interfering’ between an issue that is between China and Bhutan. The article then quotes some citizens, a Buddhist monk, Bhutanese businessmen etc. and goes on to claim that more people want to have better relations with China.

The article also quotes some citizens preferring India, but the reporter ‘feels’ that such citizens are in ‘minority’.

And this article became the cover story of the magazine, which declared that Bhutan and China were coming closer, as if it was a diplomatic development amidst the Doklam standoff, when all it was in reality was a reporter’s private diary.

Not only was it trashed by the Editor-in-chief of the Bhutanese newspaper, it drew a lot of flak on social media, where people even called it the “hit and run” journalism:

Some Bhutanese citizens also trashed the report, questioning the reportage and its conclusion about what Bhutanese people wanted:

It is indeed sad that an Indian media house would unwittingly follow a Chinese propaganda to create rifts and tension between Indian and Bhutan regarding the sensitive Doklam Standoff.

Earlier too, Indian media was called out when they projected a ‘stunning but unsubstantiated claim’ of Bhutan accepting Doklam as Chinese territory, made by a Chinese official to appear like a Bhutanese official had said it. Later Bhutan had denied issuing any such statement to any Chinese official.

It should be noted that the Chinese state media had openly called for attempts to seed discontent between India and Bhutan. And you have an Indian magazine doing exactly that!

Sadly, one can say that it is not really so shocking a behaviour from the Indian media, since in the past it has followed the “Pakistani doctrine” on how media should be used to further Pakistani agenda.

Rajasthan govt recommends CBI probe into Robert Vadra’s controversial land deals

Robert Vadra, the famous son-in-law of Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi has been under the cloud of controversy ever since his shady land deals in Haryana and Rajasthan came under the public scanner, thanks to exposes by people like Ashok Khemka.

When the BJP government came into power in both Rajasthan and the centre in 2014, many speculated that probes would be initiated into the matter and Vadra would be punished if he was found guilty of any wrongdoings. Action against Vadra was incidentally one of the top demands of BJP supporters.

Things started off with promise, with the Vasundara Raje government ordering a probe after coming to power. Also in 2015 the Service Tax officials raided the premises of Siwal Infra Limited, a local company in Bikaner which had been project contractor for Vadra. A tax inspector also scanned the land transitions done by Skylight Hospitality Private Limited and Skylight Reality Private Limited which were also under the scanner.

These raids led to the speculation that it was only a matter of time before Vadra was nailed by the authorities. But interestingly, to much ire of the BJP supporters, things went very cold on the Vadra front and reports also surfaced speculating as to whether the BJP was being gentle with him.

Now it seems there has been a reboot of sorts, with the Rajasthan government on Tuesday recommending a CBI probe into controversial land deals which were allegedly executed by a company owned by Vadra. The Rajasthan Police has lodged 18 FIRs in the matter which have been sent to the Centre’s Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for issuing the notification of the CBI probe, provided it is accepted.

Skylight the company in question had allegedly purchased the land in the Kolayat Teshil. The state government has already cancelled the transfer of 374.44 hectares of land in Bikaner district after it was found that land allotments were made in the name of fake persons. The Tehsildar of Kolayat has alleged in his complaint that government land in 34 villages in Bikaner which was meant to expand army’s firing range was grabbed by the land mafia through forged and fabricated documents. The mafia was allegedly helped in this matter by the government officials. The ED has also pursued the matter and conducted raids after registering a case of money laundering.

Robert Vadra has incidentally responded to the action via a Facebook post. In the post, Vadra has claimed that he is being hounded, persecuted and harassed. He reiterates that come what may, the truth will prevail in the end.

It remains to be seen if the request for the CBI probe is indeed accepted and whether the case is taken to its logical conclusion.
