All About Gurugram

Located in the northern part of Haryana State, Gurgaon is a major city in the NCR of Delhi. The city is popularly known as ‘Cyber City’ and ‘Millennium City’ as it has a number of IT companies. The name ‘Gurgaon’ has derived from two words – ‘Guru’ and ‘Gram’. It is said that Guru Dronacharya used to live here and taught the skills of archery to the Pandava. Due to this connection, the city was called ‘Guru-Gram’ but later changed to ‘Gurgaon’. In past few years, the city has been witnessed of a substantial growth in the economy and that’s the main reason which made it the home to major information technology companies, ITES, pharmaceuticals and automobile industries. To target Indian market, many Multi-National Companies have their branches in Gurgaon considering it a best place to operate business. After Chandigarh and Mumbai, Gurgaon is the third highest per capita income city in India.

Gurgaon is also seen as one of the populated cities of the NCR of Delhi. According to 2001 census data, the population of the city is around 1,576,665. The city is also known for its excellent infrastructure in terms of sky-touching housing societies, residential colonies, wider roads, modern shopping complexes, schools and medical facilities. The city is quite close to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport that makes it a preferred destination for corporate bodies. The National Highway 8 (NH 8) connects Jaipur and Delhi via Gurgaon. Gurgaon shares its boundary with Delhi and Faridabad therefore many people come here in search of better career opportunities.

The city has a lot to offer in terms of entertainment, dinning, shopping and nightlife. Gurgaon has some of the best shopping malls like – DT Mall, DT Mega Mall, Sahara Mall, DLF City Center, MGF Mega City, DLF Grand Mall and Metropolitan Mall where shopping freaks can enjoy their shopping. ‘Golden Triangle City Center’ in Sector 29 is a dream project of Haryana Government that will add more charm to this city. Gurgaon has finest restaurants, pubs, lounge and disk to enjoy many beautiful shades of life. Places like Kingdom of Dreams and Appu Ghar are quite popular among the youngsters. The city has a good transportation system and people can take State run buses to commute in various parts of India. The latest addition to Gurgaon transportation is the ‘Rapid Metro’.
