The strikes followed intelligence warnings about Islamic State sleeper cells exploiting post Assad instability, as US Central Command said the operation aimed to degrade the group’s operational capability and prevent future attacks on American and allied forces.
Reacting to Pakistani airstrikes in Aghanistan, Taliban's spokesperson said, "The Islamic Emirate will not let this act of cowardice go unanswered, Rather, it considers defending its territory and soil an inalienable right."
