According to researchers, the ongoing excavation has established Vadnagar as the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in India.

The ASI and Deccan College Pune have worked together over the past two years to complete the third phase of excavations at Rakhigarhi, led by ASI joint director Sanjay Kumar Manjul and Deccan College Pune assistant professor Prabhodh Shirwalkar.

A suit was filed in 1991 by the Ancient Idol of Swayambhu Lord Vishweshwar and 5 others before a local court in Varanasi seeking the removal of the mosque and restoration of the disputed land to Hindus.

Varanasi Court district rejected a plea seeking inclusion of "Wazukhana" in the ongoing ASI survey inside the disputed Gyanvapi complex.

The survey work at Gyanvapi complex had been affected by inclement weather conditions, including rain, which necessitated the extension to ensure a comprehensive examination

Shubhash Nandan Chaturvedi, a lawyer for Hindu petitioners, said that the Varanasi district court gave ASI four weeks to complete its survey, the deadline for which ended on Saturday.

A team of 37 members from the ASI was joined by additional experts from IIT, forming a combined team of 41 individuals to survey Gyanvapi

The supreme court said in its order, "We order and direct that the entire ASI survey shall be completed by the non-invasive methodology adopted by the ASI."
