A private school owner from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, who was absconding, was arrested by police from Kerala for allegedly posting objectionable remarks about Lord Ram on his WhatsApp status.
Collector Sudhir Kochar confirmed that notices have been issued in the matter and a report will be submitted to the state by 10th April. Superintendent of Police (SP) Shrutikirti Somvanshi assured a high-level inquiry into the matter to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The Gond and Baiga tribal children were fully converted to Christianity. They pray to Jesus, hold Bibles, and follow Christian rituals. The Baiga tribe, which is already facing extinction in many regions, is reportedly being aggressively targeted by such missionaries.
The complainant further stated that the mob issued a chilling threat, stating, "You escaped today, but if you ever take out a procession again in front of us, we will eliminate you."
They pelted stones at both the temple and nearby houses owned by Hindu families. One of the eyewitnesses, whose house was also targeted, said that the attack was recorded on CCTV. They further alleged that petrol bombs and stones were hurled at the temple premises, and police vehicles were destroyed along with private vehicles, including bikes and cars.
Reports say stone pelting and arson have happened. Many vehicles and shops have been vandalised. The violence reportedly started when the victory procession passed near a masjid.
