From DNA profiling and fingerprints to mobile phones and CCTV, scientific evidence is helping investigators identify suspects and victims, while new laboratories, specialised training and criminal laws strengthen India's forensic investigation capabilities.

Nearly one lakh children were newly reported missing in 2024, while police databases, 1098, GHAR, Railways and Anti-Human Trafficking Units work across states to trace children and investigate the circumstances behind disappearances.

Over the years, the government has taken action against several organisations after investigations or inspections exposed financial irregularities, misuse of foreign contributions, violation of FCRA rules or activities beyond their declared objectives.

Existing FCRA associations have one year to specify their purposes under the new schedule, while a pending bill proposes government control over assets held by organisations whose registrations are cancelled, surrendered or allowed to lapse.

Over 18.43 lakh suspect identifier data received from Banks and 24.67 lakh Layer 1 mule accounts were shared with the participating entities of Suspect Registry and declined transactions worth Rs. 8031.56 crores.
