Over the years, the government has taken action against several organisations after investigations or inspections exposed financial irregularities, misuse of foreign contributions, violation of FCRA rules or activities beyond their declared objectives.

Existing FCRA associations have one year to specify their purposes under the new schedule, while a pending bill proposes government control over assets held by organisations whose registrations are cancelled, surrendered or allowed to lapse.
