Several districts in UP witnessed violent clashes during Muharram processions on Sunday, 6th July. Resulting in stone pelting, stick fighting, property damage and mob clashing.
Violence broke out during Muharram processions in Bihar’s Katihar and East Champaran districts. In Katihar, a temple was targeted with stone pelting, while in East Champaran, a 22-year-old youth was killed in a sword attack during a communal clash.
A police officer was stabbed during a Muharram procession in Darbhanga, Bihar, while separate incidents of violence were reported in Muzaffarpur and Vaishali. Clashes, stone-pelting, and even arson of a bus marked a tense day across the state.
Muharram processions are being taken out across the country. Disputes are now emerging regarding these processions. There have been incidents of fighting at many places. There have been complaints of arbitrary permissions and abuse at some places. In view of this, the local administration is on alert and heavy security forces have been deployed.
The stated administration conducted a survey on 21st July to learn that around 11 accused persons belonging to the Muslim community had illegally expanded their properties. The same will be demolished.
