HDFC Bank employee Aastha Singh has clarified that a viral video of her invoking her caste was a reaction to harassment by a colleague’s relative. She alleges the clip was selectively edited and has since faced severe online threats and rape threats.

While recounting the mob issuing rape threats, she said, “We felt as if the same fate that happened to the victim, for whom we came here to stage a protest, would happen to us. And tomorrow someone else will protest for us. There was no safety and security.”
