In 2011, Hamid was detained after mob violence erupted in Mominpura over the controversial burial of Sufi saint Baba Mustafa. He allegedly played an important role in the unrest, linked to internal disputes.
An argument broke out between the mob and members of the procession, which quickly escalated, leading to the stone pelting incident. Members of the Hindu community also resorted to stone pelting in retaliation. Nearby shops were vandalised during the incident and the Eid Market was temporarily shut.
Buniyadganj police station in-charge also dismissed reports of stone pelting and stated, "The situation is under control. No serious injuries have been reported, and the police are monitoring the area to prevent further disturbances."
The complainant further stated that the mob issued a chilling threat, stating, "You escaped today, but if you ever take out a procession again in front of us, we will eliminate you."
Sambhal Police have also launched a project named 'Safe Sambhal' to make the region safe. Under this project, the police are planning to install hundreds of CCTV cameras across the city.
Notably, the show-cause notice issued by the MCD to the mosque clearly states that the map was approved by concealing facts. It further stated that the map was approved under the residential category.
Locals have alleged that several illegal Bangladeshi Rohingya have come and settled in the area, leading to an increase in incidents of violent confrontations.
