Muslim clerics arrested in Bihar for raping and killing a minor girl

Four Maulvies or Muslim clerics have been arrested by the police in connection with brutally murdering a minor girl by slashing a throat. This incident has been reported from the Adhang village in Purnia’s Jalalgarh police station region, in the state of Bihar.

As per the report, one of the accused raped her for over an year and when he discovered that she was pregnant, he and his accomplices decided to hatch a conspiracy to eliminate her and later disposed off her body in a maize field

After the postmortem was conducted on the recovered body, the police discovered her pregnancy and launched a probe in this matter. The police as a result arrested four people including three Muslim clerics and the uncle of the victim. The accused are named, Mohammed Mojahid, Mohammed Zafar, Mohammed Sadiq and Sahabudin.

As per the police officer named Rajkumar Shah, who led the investigation, the girl used to study in a madrasa near her home, where she got into an alleged relationship with Mohammed Sadiq. He allegedly proceeded to sexually exploit her under the guise of promising to marry her, which resulted in her getting pregnant.

After the pressure to marry her started building up on him, as per the News18 report, Sadiq allegedly along with the other Maulvis and the girl’s uncle hatched a conspiracy to kill her. The decision to kill her was allegedly taken in order to save the madrasas from getting a bad name. As a result they called the girl to a home on 4th January where they proceeded to brutally kill her and dispose off the body.

The Dainik Jagran and Dainik Bhaskar articles though claim that the girl was actually in a relationship with Mohammed Zafar. The Bhaskar article further claims that, some time later the Maulvi named Sadiq also fell in love with the girl and both started to sexually exploit her.

In order to crack the crime, the police questioned the aunt of the victim and used techniques like mobile surveillance to nab the accused, who have now been sent to jail.

Unfortunately the instances of Muslim clerics or Maulvies being accused of rape are nothing new.

We had reported in September about a Maulvi in Kashmir getting arrested in Kashmir for raping scores of young boys under the pretext of summoning jinns and driving away ‘evil eye’.

In January 2016 it was noted that a Maulvi was accused of raping a six year old student while he was giving her tuition classes. This incident was reported from Agra.

A Surat Maulvi was arrested in October, 2015 after he was accused of raping a 15 year old girl of his Madrasa, during the holy month of Ramzan.
