Chhattisgarh: One Sunita Kushwaha killed and burnt after she goes to ex-lover Zameer Khan’s home to insist on getting married

When Sunita had filed an FIR against Zameer on rape charges, Zameer's family had allegedly promised her that they will get the duo married. After getting out of jail, Zameer had reportedly duped Sunita and had married a Muslim girl chosen by his family.

A woman named Sunita Kushwaha has been brutally murdered in the Navagarh town in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district. As per reports, the woman had been duped after a long relationship with a man named Zameer Khan and was murdered after she confronted Zameer’s family members.

As per reports, Sunita had come to her lover Zameer Khan’s family home in Navagarh town’s ward number 2. Late on Sunday night, Sunita was allegedly sitting outside Zameer’s family home and had been knocking the door to be let in. When Zameer’s elder brother Anwar Khan returned from a Kabaddi match late at around 2 am, he was enraged to find Sunita still sitting there. Anwar and Sunia had allegedly got into a verbal spat following which Anwar had picked up a stone and crushed Sunita’s head.

As per reports, Anwar Khan then strangulated Sunita, poured petrol over Sunita’s body and burnt it. Later, Anwar surrendered at the police station.

Sunita Kushwaha, a resident of Jayanagar in Sarguja district, was reportedly studying in Bilaspur almost a decade ago when she had met Zameer Khan and they had fallen in love. Zameer Khan and Sunita had been in a live-in relationship for several years during which Sunita had also got pregnant and had to abort the child under Zameer’s pressure.

Sunita reportedly had no contact with her family and had been staying in Bilaspur. After being in a relationship with Sunita for several years, Zameer had reportedly wanted to dump her. Zameer had returned to his village and when he had refused to marry Sunita, she had allegedly filed an FIR against him. Zameer was arrested and was put in jail for a while.

Zameer’s father and family members had allegedly promised Sunita that they would get Zameer to marry her and had convinced her to withdraw her complaint against him. But after being released from jail, Zameer had married a Muslim girl of his family’s choice and was living with his wife’s parents in another village.

Sunita used to regularly visit Zameer’s family home in Navagarh and ask them to convince him to marry her despite being aware of his marital status. Due to her regular visits, several people in the neighbourhood were known to her. On the night of the incident, she had also come from Bilaspur to meet Zameer’s family and was sitting outside their home trying to get them to take her in.

Anwar Khan has reportedly told the police that the family was sick of Sunita’s visits and her obsession with getting married to Zameer.
