The Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) on Friday held protests in New Delhi to express solidarity with Hong Kong against China. About 200-300 protestors marched between Connaught Place (CP) and Jantar Mantar as an expression of support to the ongoing pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong.
The protestors hit the streets of the national capital holding umbrellas that had slogans printed on them. They held a protest at Jantar Mantar after reaching there. Hong Kong has been witnessing protests consistently since March-end against China and in favour of restoring democracy. At present Hong Kong is a special administrative region of southern China. It’s sovereignty was transferred to China in 1997 by the UK.
The Dharmasala based Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) is a worldwide Organisation of Tibetans in exile struggling for the restoration of complete independence for the whole of Tibet, currently occupied by China.

The protests first erupted after China proposed an extradition bill paving way for China to extradite suspects to the mainland for trials. The bill has been shelved, however, the protests have now taken a pro-democracy shape with people demanding investigations for alleged police cruelty.
Ever since the protests broke out, more than 800 protesters have been arrested by the police including Joshua Wong, the popular pro-democracy leader.

Reports about the protestors being treated with pepper spray by the police have also emerged. The police has also resorted to batons and water cannon to scatter the crowd.
China while criticizing the protests has called for peace in Hong Kong.
