‘She goes to eat and rest in an AC room during lunchtime and at night’: Delhi-BJP slams Atishi Marlena, calls her hunger-strike fake

On 21st June, Delhi Water Minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi Marlena began an indefinite hunger strike demanding that Haryana release Delhi’s “rightful” share of water. The national capital has been experiencing a severe water scarcity, with the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled state of Haryana, she alleged, reducing the city’s water supply, directly impacting about 28 lakh residents. Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, was among the prominent AAP leaders present during the event which she to as “Paani Satyagraha.”

However, the Delhi unit of BJP has termed the fast as a sham and wrote, “What kind of indefinite satyagraha is this, where Atishi goes to eat and rest in an AC room during lunchtime and at night? A big scam is going on.” The party also shared a video of empty chairs as well as the podium with images of Atishi Marlena and Arvind Kejriwal in the background on social media to drive the point home.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa also uploaded a video to question the Delhi minister and charged, “AAP’s minister Atishi Marlena claims it to be her second day of hunger strike and is going to the temple. First of all, I don’t understand how the followers of Marx and Lenin could visit temples. What can be a bigger fraud than this? This is equally fake as her hunger strike. She disappears during the day and in the evening. She takes her meals and then claims to be fasting.

He added, “If you truly choose to go on a hunger strike, do it in opposition to the tanker mafia and the MLAs from your party who have embezzled crores from the mafia while denying the Delhi people access to water. Arvind Kejriwal used to criticize the same tanker mafia in his videos, claiming that they have looted crores from Delhi and taken their water. If voted to power he would destroy their unjust authority. Atishi stop your drama and provide water to the citizens of Delhi.”

The Delhi Jal Board should have made preparations for the water problem earlier, according to BJP’s Bansuri Swaraj, considering that the weather agency had repeatedly warned of the extreme heat. The MP further questioned why, given that the AAP is in government in both Delhi and Punjab, they had not requested water from the Bhagwant Mann government. The AAP leader’s decision to stage her protest at Bhogal was reportedly motivated by her intention to run in the Assembly election the following year from the Jangpura seat, according to the BJP.

NEET-UG row: Paper reportedly leaked in Jharkhand, a professor sent it to “mastermind” Sanjeev Mukhiya on WhatsApp, read details

Bihar Police’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU) is probing the NEET-UG paper leak case which was held on 5th May this year. During this time, they received information that some students had already received the question paper and they memorised the answers. When the cops reached the spot where the applicants memorised the answers, they found a burnt question paper and recovered booklet number 636488 from there. According to sources, the booklet belonged to an exam centre in Hazaribagh. It is believed that the paper was leaked from Jharkhand.

The 53-year-old technical assistant at a government institution in Nalanda, Sanjeev Mukhiya, is the focus of the investigation of the Bihar Economic Offences Unit (EOU). Officials believe he is one of the masterminds behind the paper leak. According to Bihar police investigators, he is the leader of a gang that operates in several states to profit from rigging competitive exams. The Uttarakhand Police had previously apprehended him in 2016. His son Shiv Kumar was also arrested in one such case and is currently being held at the Beur jail in Ujjain due to suspicions of leaking the Bihar Public Service Commission Teacher Recruitment Examination in April 2024.

This group spent several months in planning the scam and Mukhiya obtained the question paper via WhatsApp from a professor. Afterwards, the paper was solved with the aid of Patna and Ranchi medical students. On the morning of 5th May, the paper was sent to Chintu alias Baldev’s mobile along with the solution. The investigating agency has also received information about the professor who sent the message.

At Chintu’s request, Pintu from Hilsa took a printout of the paper and at 9 AM, distributed it among twenty to twenty-five candidates who were staying at the now-closed Learn and Play School and Boys Hostel in remote Khemnichak to memorize the same.

A student named Abhishek was taken into custody by the police from the testing centre on 5th May. The same day his father Awadhesh, who lives in Ranchi, was also arrested. Sikandar P Yadvendu (56), a junior engineer at the municipal committee of Danapur, has also been nabbed in connection with the paper leak case. The investigation has pinpointed him as the prime suspect in the dissemination of NEET question papers. He worked as a contractor in Ranchi before 2012 and Awadhesh was his clerk. Afterwards, the latter did land business in Ranchi and acquired property worth crores in just 12 years. Awadhesh is reportedly Sikandar’s investor.

Sikandar is from a farmer’s family with agricultural roots in Samastipur and was a small-time contractor until 2012. He holds a diploma in engineering and has a background as a contractor spanning fifteen years. His professional trajectory took a turn in 2012 when he secured a junior engineer position with the water resources department. He has also amassed property in Ranchi valued at crores. He has a home and an apartment in Ranchi’s Jagatpuram. He set up a sports showroom for his son on Ranchi’s bypass route about three months ago. His daughter has completed MBBS.

The police have also learned that Awadhesh invested Sikandar’s illegal earnings in land business in Ranchi. The investigating agency will also file a case of disproportionate assets against the latter. Awadhesh was also shot and injured in Ranchi in 2023 in a dispute over land business.

Meanwhile Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha has accused former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav’s personal secretary and Bihar Administrative Service officer Pritam Kumar for the leak and stated, “On May 1, Tejashwi Yadav’s personal secretary Pritam Kumar called guesthouse worker Pradip Kumar to book a room for Sikander Kumar Yadvendu. On May 4, Pritam Kumar called Pradip Kumar again to book the room.”

Sinha added, “The word ‘Mantri’ was used for Tejashwi Yadav. Sikandar Yadvendu is a close relative of Tejashwi Yadav’s PS Pritam Kumar. An NHAI guest house was booked for Sikandar’s sister Reena Yadav and son Anurag Yadav on May 4. A phone number and ‘Mantri Ji’ were mentioned in the NHAI guest house’s diary. The investigating agency is trying to identify this Mantri Ji.”

Bihar EOU has sent a notice to Nalanda police asking them to arrest Sanjeev Mukhiya. Nalanda police raided his house on 21st June but he was found absconding. His family members were also questioned in the matter. He is the only accused named in the FIR who is yet to be arrested. On 4th June, he applied for anticipatory bail before a Patna district and sessions court, which postponed the hearing until 4th July. According to a police official, they were looking for him at different places based on tips. The official added, “We are hopeful of catching him over the next few days. We are keeping a tab on him.”

The police are also searching for other accused including Rocky alias Rakesh Ranjan, Chintu alias Baldev, Pintu, and Ashutosh concerning the paper leak.

Union govt notifies Telecommunications Act, the new allows govt to take control of all telecom networks during emergency situations

The central government will be able to take control of any telecommunications services or networks in times of emergency after the implementation of the Telecommunications Act 2023, which will be effective on June 26.

The Centre, though partially, notified the Telecommunications Act on Friday to be effective from June 26, and provisions including sections 1, 2, 10, and 30 will be in place.

“The Central government hereby appoints the 26th day of June 2024, as the date on which the provisions of sections 1, 2, 10 to 30, 42 to 44, 46, 47, 50 to 58, 61 and 62 of the said Act shall come into force,” the Gazette notification said.

According to the notification, the government may take control of the telecom services on the grounds of security, public order, or prevention of offences.

Section 20, which will be effective on June 26 states, “On the occurrence of any public emergency, including disaster management, or in the interest of public safety, the Central Government or a State Government or any officer specially authorised in this behalf by the Central Government or a State Government can take temporary possession of any telecommunication service or telecommunication network from an authorised entity; or provide for appropriate mechanisms to ensure that messages of a user or group of users authorised for response and recovery during a public emergency are routed on priority.”

As per the act, any telecom player who wants to establish or operate telecommunication networks, provide services or possess ratio equipment will have to be authorised by the government.

After the rules of the Act comes into effect, the Universal Service Obligation Fund will become Digital Bharat Nidhi, which can be used for funding research and development, and pilot projects instead of just supporting the establishment of telecom services in rural areas.

However, some other sections of the act such as the administrative allocation of spectrum, including for the satellite services, and adjudication mechanism etc will be notified later.

The act, after it comes into effect, will supersede the existing rules within the telecommunications sector, which come under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, and the Wireless Telegraphy Act (1933), among others.

Love jihad in MP: Shahrukh pretends to be Rohit to trap a Hindu girl, takes help of friend Junaid to pressurise and threaten her to convert and marry him, both arrested

A case of love jihad has surfaced from Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district. A Muslim youth in the Sadalpur area befriended a Hindu girl by hiding his identity and as their relationship progressed he pressured her to embrace Islam for marriage. Afterwards, she lodged a complaint at the police station based on which a First Information Report was filed and the offender was arrested along with his friend.

Shahrukh, a resident of Chowki Sewara, pretended to be Rohit to seduce the victim who is from Sadalpur. However, she started to distance herself from him upon learning his true identity after which he began to threaten her.

He had taken several photographs of her and warned that he would edit them and then post them on social media. He continuously forced her to talk to him and meet him. He even pushed her to convert and tie the knot with him. On 20th June in the late hours, she went to a medical shop to buy medicines. The store belonged to a friend of the perpetrator, named Junaid from Kesur. Shahrukh arrived there at the same time and started harassing her which scared her and she started to scream. People heard her cries and gathered at the spot but he escaped.

Hindu activists rushed to the location after learning about the matter and the girl submitted a complaint with their help. The two Muslim males have been named as accused by the cops. Junaid was also forcing her to change her religion and also issued death threats when she refused to comply. Sadalpur police station in-charge Savita Chaudhary said that the woman sells vegetables on a cart and Shahrukh used to visit her under the guise of purchasing vegetables and made friends with her by claiming to be a Hindu.

Afterwards, he gradually began to talk to her about Islam. He used to praise the religion and refer to it as “very good” and even encouraged others to convert. Now, the authorities have booked him and his companion under various sections of the Madhya Pradesh Religious Freedom Act 2021 in addition to molestation. The cops carried out raids and apprehended the duo. Hindu organisations have demanded strict action in the case to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future.

Earlier, a bus carrying CRPF jawans was set on fire on Monday (17th June) by a Kuki mob, alleging that the vehicle was carrying people belonging to the Meitei community.

Islamic fundamentalists plotting to kill Judge Diwakar: NIA court seeks enhanced security for Judge RK Diwakar who allowed videographic survey of disputed Gyanvapi structure

An NIA court has requested the Allahabad High Court to enhance the security cover for Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar, who allowed a videographic survey of the disputed Gyanvapi structure in 2022. He has been receiving threats to his life and his family members’ lives ever since. Notably, an NIA court’s special judge Vivekanand Sharan Tripathi has written a letter to the Registrar General of the Allahabad High Court seeking more protection for Judge Diwakar.

The development comes three weeks after an FIR was filed against an accused named Adnan Khan for threatening additional sessions judge Diwakar.

In his letter, Special Judge Tripathi said, “Investigations have revealed that Islamic fundamentalists are plotting to kill Judge Diwakar… This is a sensitive issue. If the activities of Adnan are not curbed, it could lead to an untoward incident.”

It is pertinent to note that Judge Diwakar is now an additional sessions judge in Bareilly. Earlier, he also wrote a letter to the UP Chief Secretary, expressing concerns about his current security. In the letter, he stated that Islamic fundamentalists are brainwashing the minority community and labelling him a Kafir, putting his life in danger.

The letter stated, “On 13th May 2022, after the Allahabad HC’s order, my family and I were provided security, but the current level seems inadequate. It is clear that the Islamic fundamentalists are brainwashing members of the minority community and turning them against me by labelling me a kafir to get me killed. Hence this letter is being forwarded to provide adequate security to me and my family.”

Furthermore, on 25th April 2024, judge Diwakar informed Bareilly police that he was receiving “malicious calls and death threats from international numbers”. He had also demanded a probe into the threats against him.

Earlier, following a similar threat concern voiced by the judge shortly after the Gyanvapi decision in 2022, the Allahabad High Court ordered Y-category protection for him and his family, which eventually switched to X-category.

Speaking with the Times of India, his associate stated that his current security detail includes two personnel who are inadequately equipped for a potential terrorist attack. “They are not even equipped with adequate modern weapons in case of a terrorist attack,” the associate said.

Threats against Judge Diwakar have persisted since June 2022, when Varanasi police investigated a threatening letter from the Islamic Aagaz Movement’s president. The threatening letter contained offensive remarks about his family and the Prime Minister, prompting enhanced security measures for him.

Back in 2022, Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar expressed concerns about his safety after he allowed a videographic survey of the disputed Gyanvapi structure to determine if a temple existed underneath. He said that an atmosphere of fear is being created and that he is worried about his family’s safety as well. “The fear is so much that my family is always concerned about my safety and I am concerned about their safety”, he said.

Meanwhile, last year, a member of banned Popular Front of India (PFI) was apprehended outside the judge’s residence in Lucknow. Shahjahanpur SSP Ashok Kumar Meena then posted a gunner at the residence of Justice Diwakar’s brother, who also serves as an additional district judge. However, the security cover was removed due to the Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier this month, on 3rd June, the UP ATS investigation officer filed an FIR against an accused named Adnan Khan under several IPC sections and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Khan allegedly used his Instagram account to issue threats against Judge Diwakar, encouraging violence against him.

The FIR by ATS officer Prabhakar Ojha said, “Adnan Khan runs an Instagram account through which a threat has been issued to judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar, who is hearing the Gyanvapi mosque case in Varanasi.”

The NEET-UG 2024 exam was conducted on May 5 and its results were declared on June 4, ahead of its scheduled announcement date of June 14.

The NEET-UG examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), paves the way for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.

On June 13, the NTA informed the Supreme Court that the scorecards of 1563 candidates who were awarded “grace marks” in the NEET-UG 2024 exam would be cancelled and these candidates would have an option to reappear for the exam on June 23, the results of which will be declared before June 30, or forgo the compensatory marks given for the loss of time.

Decline in Bangladesh’s foreign reserves, potential Chinese debt and Rohingya crisis: Here is why Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India is significant

On Saturday (22nd June), Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in New Delhi. She has been on a two-day state visit to India’s National Capital.

This is her second trip just within the gap of less than two weeks. Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India comes at an extremely delicate time because of multiple factors.

A press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Press Wing has provided highlights of the trip stating, that during the visit both the premiers will have a tête-à-tête (one-to-one meeting) followed by delegation-level talks.

During the visit, both Bangladesh and India would sign several agreements and Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) to strengthen the existing bilateral ties further.

Additionally, discussions on a potential trade pact are expected. Over the past decade, numerous cross-border initiatives have been launched as part of a robust regional partnership plan.

First of all, this trip is taking place when Bangladesh is facing serious economic hardship with an alarming decline in foreign currency reserves with no practical hope of bouncing back from this situation even within the foreseeable future.

Although Bangladesh’s Finance Minister A H Mahmud Ali told reporters the struggling economy and inflation shall be under control within six months, economic experts are saying – such hope or prediction is not based on realities.

Meanwhile, Dhaka has sought US$5 billion soft-loan from Beijing and it is anticipated that during Sheikh Hasina July 9-12 official visit to China, this might be finalized, economists are warning – this soft-loan will ultimately place Bangladesh into China’s debt trap, where Beijing shall attempt to take numerous advantages and strategic benefits.

Meanwhile, since last year’s Israel’s military operations in Gaza, Bangladesh authorities, including Foreign Minister Hassan Mahmud have been extremely critical of Israel and even went further by criticizing Jews.

Taking undue advantage of this situation, Islamist and religious bigots – mostly belonging to ruling Awami League’s rival bloc, including Al Qaeda-connected Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) began capitalizing anti-Semitic policy of the government and started mixing religious bigotry with their political agenda, while anti-Israel, anti-Jews and anti-India elements joined this trend by calling for boycott of Israeli, Jewish and Indian products.

Meanwhile, an asset of Pakistani ISI namely Pinaki Bhattacharya has intensified his anti-India propaganda on social media platforms and in recent days, he has been openly expressing delight stating – India has been ousted from Bangladesh and now China shall enter the scene. He even is publishing video contents justifying Adolf Hitler’s cruelty on Jews and the Holocaust stating Jews are evils and that is why they were hated in Europe. Pinaki Bhattacharya has also intensified his anti-Sheikh Hasina propaganda by mixing it with anti-Israel and anti-India agendas.

Pro-jihadist and anti-Semite broadcast network. such as Al Jazeera English has also joined the ongoing anti-Israel and anti-India sentiment by airing instigative contents.

Ruling Awami League government now cannot pull the lever of such notoriety and ever-spreading propaganda targeting American and European products by branding those as being manufactured by Israeli and Jewish companies.

For the Bangladesh government – now it is genuinely a double-jeopardy although they are responsible for this situation. Double jeopardy because, if the ruling Awami League will attempt to stop the ongoing boycott madness against Israeli, Jewish and Indian products, they will now become target of Islamist forces in the country, while if the government shall remain silent on this matter, it will ultimately result in serious consequence where Jewish buyers of Bangladeshi apparel products may begin cancelling orders by branding the country as anti-Semitic.

It may be mentioned here that Bangladesh’s economy is greatly dependent on export of readymade garments to European and American markets.

Meanwhile, political opponents of Sheikh Hasina are intensifying propaganda stating her government shall collapse maximum by December this year. Suspiciously, state machinery is maintaining reluctance or silence in countering such propaganda despite the fact it is gradually spreading within the vast proportion of the people simply like hellfire.

Political rivals of Sheikh Hasina are saying, Awami League government’s key ally Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been completely weakened following the Lok Sabha elections as BJP failed to get the required majority to form the government. They say, Modi’s government in this consecutive third-term is extremely weak, while it is apparently walking on crutches.

There also are two more challenges for Sheikh Hasina – the over-burden of 1.20 million Rohingyas, with intelligence agencies warning about Rohingya camps turning into hub of international terrorism – and Western plot to carve out a “Christian state like East Timor” taking parts of Bangladesh, Myanmar and India.

These are the two biggest headaches of Sheikh Hasina which are directly threatening the country’s national security and sovereignty. Meanwhile, a significant segment of the Rohingyas in Bangladesh are joining hands with international terrorist groups as well as Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Jamaat-e-Islami and other Islamist forces in the country, including pro-Caliphate Hefazat-e-Islam.

While Sheikh Hasina’s government is struggling in coping with ongoing economic crisis, international media  giving   shocking details of rampant corruption, money laundering and loot of public wealth by a section of people – mostly affiliated with the ruling Awami League, while the state machinery is showing reluctance in taking any action against those high-profile corrupts.

Media report quoting the World Bank says, nearly US$3.15 billion flows out illicitly from Bangladesh every year through offshore accounts while the country smarts from dearth of foreign exchange reserves for over a year now.

According to analysts, a weak government in Dhaka with massive dependence on China may become extremely disadvantageous for Delhi as Beijing may try to use Bangladesh as its geopolitical playground, mostly targeting India.

Simultaneously, Washington, which also is clearly unhappy with Sheikh Hasina’s government may intensify its plots of creating a “Cristian state” as well as by using Rohingyas into terrorist and jihadist activities.

In the past, Sheikh Hasina has visited India on a number of times, where those trips were mostly pleasant. But this time, Sheikh Hasina is visiting India when Bangladesh is facing multiple challenges including a growing economic crisis.

There truly is total uncertainty about the future of Bangladesh, particularly because Washington and its European allies are desperately looking to turn Bangladesh into a vessel state while China on the other hand is attempting to establish its dominance by forcing Bangladesh to create distance from India. This is genuinely a very complicated situation for ruling elites in Dhaka.

Deceased Aurangzeb looted jewelry and cash at gunpoint, tried to rape women: Aligarh’s victim narrates ordeal as propagandists spin it as religious mob lynching

A tense situation has been prevailing, for some time, in the Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh following the suspicious death of a person named Aurangzeb, alias Mohammad Farid, on Tuesday (18th June 2024). Based on a complaint filed by Aurangzeb’s brother after his death, the police registered an FIR against 10 suspects. Six of the accused have been sent to jail. While the complainant described his brother Aurangzeb as a cook, the family of the accused said he was a thief.

The wife of an accused who was sent to jail has submitted a written complaint to the police against Aurangzeb. In the complaint, she made serious allegations against Aurangzeb and his three accomplices, including barging into their house, stealing, molesting the women of the house, and taking the family members hostage. While speaking with OpIndia, the victim reiterated her allegations. The complaint letter is addressed to the SHO of Gandhi Park police station in Aligarh.

In her written complaint, the woman stated that around 10 PM on Tuesday (18th June), her husband noticed a noise coming from the roof. At the same time, 4-5 armed men barged into their house through the stairs. The armed intruders took the victim and her family hostage in a room, threatening to shoot and kill everyone if they called for help. When the intruders demanded cash and jewelry, the terrified victim took them out of the safe and handed them over.

It is said that the robbers looted Rs 2,50,000 to 3,00,000 from their house. They handed this money to some of their accomplices who were on the roof. One of these accomplices is identified as Jameel, also known as Alfa Tailor. After giving the looted money and jewelry to Jameel, two suspects re-entered the victim’s house. They then grabbed the victim and another woman in the house with malicious intentions. Both the accused tore the clothes of the victims and attempted to rape them.

According to the victim, when they cried for help, people from the locality and surrounding areas gathered. Seeing themselves surrounded, all the suspects started to flee. One of them even fired at the neighbours, creating a chaotic situation. During this commotion, one of the fleeing robbers fell on the stairs and got injured, while his accomplices managed to escape. The injured person turned out to be Aurangzeb, alias Mohammad Farid. The neighbours caught hold of him and started questioning him.

According to the victim, when the neighbours questioned him, the accused Aurangzeb revealed the names of his accomplices as Salman, Tufail, Asif, and Jameel alias Alfa Tailor. Aurangzeb further said that he and his gang conduct reconnaissance in Hindu-populated areas to identify wealthy families. They had done a recce of the victim’s house for four days. When the police were informed about the matter, they reached the spot and took Aurangzeb with them.

The victim has demanded strict action against Farid alias Aurangzeb and his accomplices. Along with the victim, members of several Hindu organisations in Aligarh have also demanded that an FIR be registered and action be taken against the named accused. A copy of the victim’s complaint is available with OpIndia. In this regard, the OpIndia team has also spoken to the victim to understand the reality of the incident.

The victim told OpIndia that the robbers had also taken her 8-year-old child hostage. Fearing for her child’s life, they handed over all their savings to the thieves. During the conversation, the victim reiterated the allegations made in her written complaint. Speaking to the media, Aligarh’s SP City Mrigank Shekhar stated that a case has not yet been registered based on the complaint provided by the accused’s wife.
