On Thursday, June 1, two unidentified individuals broke into the home of a local BJP leader in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal and opened fire, killing him. The victim was identified by the police as Prasanta Basunia, general secretary of the BJP local committee in the Dinhata region of the district.
The BJP leader’s family told the police that Basunia was going to have lunch when two men barged through the door and shot him at close range. The BJP leader was rushed to the Dinhata government hospital where doctors declared him dead.
According to police, the victim’s mother informed authorities that she could recognise one of the attackers and that she had previously seen him.
A police officer at Dinhata police station said on condition of anonymity that they are questioning the Basunias’ neighbours and family for leads.
The opposition leader in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, meanwhile, reacted angrily to the occurrence. According to him, the incident was a response to the daily defection of hundreds of members from the TMC party in Dinhata to the BJP. He asserted that the TMC was so angry by the mass resignation that it responded by carrying out the brutal murder.
WB's Law & Order is in tatters.

“I demand CBI investigation as any fair investigation by the Police would be obstructed or influenced by the ruling party, due to the involvement of “influential” people,” Adhikari stated.
Samik Bhattacharya, West Bengal BJP’s chief spokesperson, also claimed Basunia was killed by criminals sent by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). “This is a political murder. Basunia was targeted to weaken the BJP’s organisation before the panchayat elections. Criminalisation of politics is an achievement of the ruling party,” said Bhattacharya. He did not cite any evidence to back his allegation.
TMC’s Dinhata legislator Udayan Guha, however, dismissed the BJP’s allegations. “The crime had nothing to do with politics. Police are conducting an investigation and the truth with be revealed soon. Basunia had a criminal record,” Guha said.
“I have to say that any incident like this is unfortunate, but it has nothing to do with politics, and TMC does not believe in the politics of violence and killings,” Prathabratim Roy, TMC district president also dismissed the allegations.
Political Violence in West Bengal
West Bengal has a long history of political violence. The state has often seen unprecedented waves of violence directed at BJP workers and supporters, who were allegedly brutally murdered, prosecuted, and raped by Trinamool Congress leaders and workers.
In the 2021 polls, TMC won 213 out of 292 seats while BJP won 77 seats. Following the election victory, the Trinamool workers unleashed rampant violence against their political opponents, including BJP workers and those of CPM and even Congress. Several BJP karyakartas were killed brutally in the victory celebration by the TMC. In a gruesome incident, BJP’s Avijit Sarkar was lynched to death along with his pet puppies allegedly by the TMC’s bloodthirsty cadre.
In the state during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, 693 violent incidents and eleven deaths were reported, according to the MHA. Even after the elections, in which the BJP won a record 18 out of 42 seats, there were up to 852 reported instances of political violence between June 1 and December 31, 2019, which resulted in 61 deaths.
According to the MHA report, 663 occurrences with 57 deaths were registered in 2020. There were 23 violent occurrences in just the first week of January 2021, which resulted in two fatalities and 43 injuries. The report also stated that 23 persons from various political parties died in confrontations during the 2018 panchayat elections.
The large number of love jihad cases in the country has now been joined by another similar incident from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Here a marriage of a Muslim boy and a Hindu girl has led to a major uproar. The girl’s name is Anamika Dubey (22), and the man’s name is Ayaz Khan (25). It was revealed that the girl has converted to Islam after their wedding invitation card surfaced.
The instance took place at Gohalpur’s Makkanaga, where Ayaz Khan developed a relationship with Anamika Dubey, following which they did court marriage. After around 5 months, he converted her to Islam and was preparing to wed her in an Islamic ceremony on June 7. The issue gained traction after the wedding card went viral on social media in which Anamika is written in brackets next to ‘Uzma Fatima.’

The girl’s family has charged that their daughter has been indoctrinated and converted to Islam, labelling it love jihad. They have said that their daughter was converted to Islam without their knowledge, and they learnt about the upcoming wedding only after the wedding card started circulating on social media.
Anamika’s father Chandrika Prasad Dubey said that his daughter was lured by the Muslim man under a conspiracy, and he married her by misleading her. He also said that Ayaz is now threatening to kill him. The girl’s mother Anuparna Dubey said that they learnt about the wedding only from social media after the card which mentions their name went viral. She has demanded that the girl should be brought back.
Hindu organisations who joined them in the protest have also stated that such occurrences will not be tolerated. They along with the girl’s family surrounded the Superintendent of Police (SP) office after the invitation card came to light.
According to reports, they got married on January 4, 2023, in the office of marriage officer Vimlesh Singh and a certificate was also obtained which bears the signatures of three witnesses. The marriage certificate mentions the girl’s name as Anamika Dubey. Afterwards, the accused left with the girl. Now, the wedding card has to the fore after five months.
The individuals from the Hindu organisations approached him on Wednesday, according to Chandrika Prasad Dubey, the girl’s father. He said that the marriage card had come up on social media and they discovered that the duo are getting ready for marriage in keeping with Muslim traditions. He mentioned that his daughter Anamika’s name was noted as ‘Uzma Fatima’ on the card along with his own name. He added that the nuptial and wedding feast was arranged for June 7 which shocked all of them.
He further charged that the perpetrator passed himself off as a Hindu and talked to his daughter. Ayaz Khan married her discreetly and the father was not even made aware of this union. The family has asked the police to investigate both the matter as well as the marriage officer. The girl’s family has also charged that the latter failed to provide them with a notification, as required by law.
Marriage Officer Vimlesh Singh, however, has denied the accusations and claimed that both the families of the couple were informed before the marriage’s registration. The police station was also told about the same and a picture of the two was also put on the board.
The girl’s mother complained that Ayaz Khan had taken Anamika and they have not been married. She demanded that the police rescue her daughter and hand her over to them. She also remarked that our daughters are being misled.
She confirmed that they were not informed about the marriage and her daughter was converted to Islam without their knowledge. She urged the police to take action against the accused. She further claimed that death threats are being issued after the matter came to light.
Members of Hindu organisations also voiced that the girl has been indoctrinated and converted to Islam and now a Muslim wedding will take place. They warned that this is love jihad and it will not be tolerated.
Additional SP Priyanka Shukla has informed that the girl’s family has registered their complaint and assured them that the police will look into the matter and take appropriate action.
In the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, a case of love jihad has come to the fore wherein a man named Aamir posed as Amit and raped a Hindu woman for over seven months, a Patrika report, however, states seven years. On May 19, 2023, the victim lodged a complaint against the accused. On the basis of the victim’s complaint, the accused has been arrested.
The matter pertains to the Kankar Kheda police station precinct in Meerut wherein the victim woman who had divorced around seven years ago, was working at a hospital near Garh Road. The victim in her complaint lodged last month alleged that the accused, a Hapur Road area resident introduced himself as Amit and worked with her at the same hospital. The two soon became friends and drew closer. According to the victim, the accused raped her multiple times on the pretext of marriage. The victim was repeatedly pressuring the accused to marry, however, he kept refusing.
Meanwhile, accused Aamir got married to a Muslim woman. The victim alleged that she got to know about Amit’s real identity through a colleague at the hospital. The two had a rift after the victim learnt that the man she believed to be Amit was actually Aamir.
One day, accused Aamir barged into the victim’s home and tried to rape her. The family members of the victim gathered as they heard the screams of the victim. Following this, the accused fled the spot.
The victim approached local BJP leader Ankit Chaudhary for help who along with the victim reached the Kankar Kheda police station. Following this, a case was registered on the victim’s complaint and the accused Aamir was arrested from Hapur Road.

This is after Jan Chetna Rally being organized by BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and the saints of Ayodhya on June 5 was postponed. Reports mention that the BJP MP did not seek permission from the Ayodhya administration for the rally. A senior official also stated that the rally could not be allowed since Section 144 was already in place in Ayodhya.
The decisions of the Khap Panchayat held in Muzaffarnagar were reserved for discussion in the Khap panchayat in Kurukshetra. On Thursday, it was resolved during the Khap Mahapanchayat meeting that a team would meet President Droupadi Murmu to demand justice for wrestlers accusing BJP MP and WFI chairman Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of allegedly sexually assaulting female grapplers.
Naresh Tikait, a leader of the Bhartiya Kisan Union, also convened the maha panchayat on Wednesday after he and other farmer leaders successfully stopped some of India’s best wrestlers from tossing their medals into the Ganga river in protest at what they claimed was police inactivity against the WFI chairman.
The Balyan Khap is led by Naresh Tikait. Khap chiefs from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi all attended the mahapanchayat. Rakesh Tikait said at the maha panchayat that the khaps would meet again on Friday in Kurukshetra to make further choices.
Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, as well as the gold medalist from the Asian Games, travelled to Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar on Tuesday with their fans to toss their medals into the Ganga. However, they gave in when Khap and farmer representatives requested an additional five days to resolve their complaints.
Two FIRs have been filed by the Delhi Police against the BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The second FIR was filed in response to outraging modesty, while the first FIR was filed in response to claims made by a young wrestler under the POCSO Act. Singh, who has categorically rejected all allegations against him, declared on Wednesday that he would hang himself if even one accusation were to be proven.
It is to be noted that several derogatory slogans have been raised amid the wrestler’s protests at Jantar Mantar which has been ongoing for months now. It was reported that slogans like ‘Modi Teri Kabar Khudegi’ and also anti-India ‘Azadi’ slogans were raised during the protests.
Notably, similar slogans were raised by protesters in many protests in the past. Anti-CAA protests, Shaheen Bagh protests, farmers’ protests led and supported by Rakesh Tikait, and various other protests in JNU are known for these Azadi slogans. Now, these sloganeers have also joined the wrestlers’ protests.
The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to Delhi Police on a plea moved by Sharjeel Imam challenging trial court proceedings against him in two cases for one speech delivered in Jamia Milia Islamia on December 13, 2019.
An FIR was registered against Sharjeel Imam under sections related to ‘sedition’ and ‘promoting enmity between groups’ under IPC at Police Station New Friends Colony in 2019. Now he has challenged the first supplementary charge sheet in the matter. Sharjeel Imam has sought quashing of the charge sheet filed on April 16, 2020, against him as he is being prosecuted by the special court for the same speech.
Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar issued a notice and sought a status report from Delhi Police. The matter has been listed on October 18, 2023, for further hearing. Special public prosecutor (SPP) Amit Prasad appeared and accepted notice for Delhi Police. Sharjeel Imam was represented by advocate Ahmad Ibrahim, Talib Mustafa and Ayesha Zaidi. The counsel for Imam has said that the speech of December 13, 2019, in FIR no. 242/2019 is already the subject matter of another FIR (22/2020).
It is argued that there cannot be multiple proceedings for one speech as the charges have already been framed by the special court in the second FIR, under Section 124A and 153A IPC.
Imam’s counsel also argued that the charge sheet filed in sections related to the offences of sedition and promoting enmity, Police have not yet taken sanction for prosecution. Consequently, no cognizance has yet been taken by the court of these two offences.
It is stated that based on an incident of rioting/violence that took place at Jamia University and Mata Mandir Marg on 15.12.2019, FIR No. 242 of 2019 was registered at P.S. New Friends Colony under Sections 143/ 147/ 148/ 149/ 186/ 323/ 353/ 332/ 308/ 427/ 435/ 323/ 341/ 120-B and 34 of IPC & Section 3 and 4 of PDPP Act, 1984.
The investigation of the case was later handed over to the Crime Branch of Delhi police. After that, based on the disclosure statement of the co-accused Mohd. Furkan recorded during the investigation wherein he says that he was instigated to commit the offences after hearing the speech delivered by the Petitioner on 13.12.2019 at Jamia University, the Petitioner was formally arrested in the present FIR on 17.02.2021, and the petition was submitted.
The petitioner also said that in the meanwhile, on 25.01.2020, a separate FIR had already been registered by the Crime Branch bearing FIR No. 22/2020, against him for having delivered two speeches during the Anti-CAA protests including the one at Jamia University on 13.12.2019.
The same was registered for the offences punishable under Sections 124A/153A/153B/505 of the IPC. A Charge sheet was later filed in the matter after obtaining the sanction Under Section 196 of CrPC from the appropriate government, and charges were framed against the Petitioner on 15.03.2022 by the Special Court, Karkardooma Court, Delhi.
The case is presently at the stage of prosecution evidence. It is also stated that during the investigation of FIR No. 242 of 2019, the Investigating Officer collected a copy of the transcript and the video of the speech in question (Jamia Speech) in a CD by the IO of FIR No. 22/2020 and also recorded his statement under Section 161 of CrPC.
Consequently, filed a supplementary charge sheet under all the offences as invoked in the FIR, the plea said.
The Jamia speech which was already investigated by the same investigating agency in FIR No. 22/20 was also made subject matter of the present FIR (242/2019) and a charge sheet was additionally filed U/s 124A and 153A against the Petitioner in complete disregard and defiance of the law laid down by the
Supreme Court in T.T. Antony Vs State of Kerala & Ors, the petition said.
The same is in complete defiance of the fundamental right of the Petitioner to fair and speedy trial guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India, the plea added.

Days after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) busted an ISIS-linked terror module in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh, it has been revealed that the NIA recovered several anti-India and anti-Hindu materials from the arrested terror terrorists Syed Mamoor Khan, Mohammad Adil Khan and Mohammad Shahid. The material contains information about a mission to turn India into an Islamic nation by the year 2050.
In a press release, the NIA stated that arrested terrorist Adil Khan who was on the agency’s radar since August 2022 and his aides were promoting ISIS propaganda through social media and on-ground ‘Dawah’ programmes to carry out terrorist activities at the behest of ISIS. The NIA had stated the arrested terrorists were receiving funding for carrying out Dawah programmes and disseminating ISIS propaganda. Sharp weapons, ammunition (including prohibited bore), incriminating documents, and digital devices were recovered by the NIA’s raiding teams.
Reportedly, NIA has said that the arrested terrorists were working on the agenda of converting India into an Islamic nation by 2050.
According to the NIA investigation, the three accused were “highly radicalised and determined to carry out violent jihad. They were collecting funds, disseminating ISIS propaganda material, motivating and recruiting youth, and trying to acquire arms and ammunition with the intent of carrying out terrorist acts,” the NIA press release stated.
According to a Dainik Bhaskar report, arrested terrorists Mohammad Adil ran a YouTube channel wherein they found a ‘Dawah To Hindus’ document. The report also claimed to have found the website linked with the YouTube channel which is working on the ‘Dawah’ programme meant to convert non-muslims to Islam. The said website carries out propaganda to destroy religions other than Islam. It is through this website, Adil received funding and there were links related to payments made to him by the ISIS terrorists.
Dawah To Hindus
It is pertinent to note that Dawah in Islam means to call proselytise or call upon non-Muslims to convert to Islam. The DainikBhaskar report stated that Adil’s YouTube channel had over 92,000 subscribers adding that all the videos posted on the channel have been deleted. However, the report claims to have seen some of the videos before deletion and found out from the comments on the videos that around 60 to 70 percent of the subscribers of the channel were foreigners. Moreover, the cover picture of Adil’s YouTube channel read, “Religion of Truth (Islam) to prevail over all religion”.

Terrorist Adil’s mother told Dainik Bhaskar that her son had told her that he runs a YouTube channel wherein he uploads videos of other Islamic scholars and this led to a copyright strike on his channel. After the strike was revoked, he used to make his own videos. She claimed that it was a normal religious YouTube channel adding that she does not know anything else about it.
Adil’s YouTube channel has ten links, including a Twitter account, an Instagram account, an English Quran app, a Quran online link, a Salah translation PDF document, a Hukm Allah PDF document, a Man Made Law PDF document, a Beneficial Knowledge link, and a PDF document titled “Dawah to Hindus.” This document reportedly claims that the process is underway to turn India into an Islamic nation by 2050.
Dawah To Hindus and 20 chapters filled with lies, distortion and hatred for Hindus
The introduction of this document mentions how Hindus are not practising their own religion appropriately and also describes the ‘similarities’ between Hinduism and Islam.
The ‘Dawah To Hindus’ document consists of twenty chapters, according to the Bhaskar report which includes chapters disparaging Hinduism. There are chapters on Hindu gods like Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma wherein extremely derogatory language has been used for the gods and the Hindu scriptures have been misquoted and distorted beyond imagination.
The first chapter of the document asserts that everyone should accept Mohammad as the prophet and a true teacher. It also mentions Lord Shiva, Indra and Raja Bhoj.
The second chapter mentions Hindu scriptures and their known categories like Shruti and Smriti, the four Vedas are mentioned under the category of Shruti (what is heard) and Manusmriti as well as epics like Ramayan, Mahabharat are categorised as Smriti.
The third chapter mentions about the formless nature of God in Hinduism, it misquotes Hindu scriptures out of context to insinuate that idol worship is wrong and that there is only one god who is unborn. It mentions shlokas from Vedas and Upanishads out of context to assert that there is no image of god.
The fourth chapter discusses ‘scientific mistakes’ in Hindu scriptures. According to the Dawah To Hindus document, the distance from Earth to the Sun, as well as the diameters of the Sun and Moon, are incorrect in Hindu scriptures.
The fifth chapter again distorts Hindu scriptures such as the Garud Purana and Brahmsutras of Adi Shankaracharya to justify non-vegetarianism. It also mentions verses from the Valmiki Ramayana.

The sixth chapter discusses Hindu rulers having several wives whereas women were only meant to have one husband, implying that women face inequality in Hinduism.

The seventh misinterprets Hindu scriptures and ISKCON founder Sri La Prabhupada’s preachings to claim that beating wives is justified in Hinduism.
Chapters eight and nine assert that women in Hinduism are inauspicious and that Hindu men indulged in some imaginary ‘Hindu Jihad’.
Chapter ten of the document claims that Hindu deities oppress women and children.
There are highly outrageous chapters in the document such as chapter eleven on prostitution, chapter twenty on Lord Shiva and chapter twenty-four on Shiva and Lingam. These chapters contain obscene images of Hindu deities and extremely derogatory language is used to describe the Shivling.
According to chapter eighteen, ‘Child Marriage’ of the aforementioned document, child marriage is justified in Hindu scriptures. Misquoting the Puranas, it is claimed that men in Hinduism are required to marry girls who are one-third younger than them.
The next chapter titled ‘Incest’ asserts that women are attracted to any good-looking man.
Chapters twenty-one and twenty-two malign the character of Lord Krishna and Lord Brahma respectively. Distorting the puranic shlokas it is claimed that Lord Krishna used to have ‘Rasleela’ with eighteen lakh Gopis. While Lord Brahma’s wife and daughter have been mentioned in an extremely slanderous manner.
Similarly, the twenty-third chapter contains slanderous content regarding Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. It further asserts that if Maa Sita had worn a Hijab, nothing ‘bad’ would have occurred to her.
UK-operated website taking forward the ‘Dawah Mission’
The Bhaskar report further claims to have found a link to a UK-operated website which has collected funds for continuing its operation for the next five years. The website featured an appeal to raise funds for ‘The Quran Project’, ‘Pamphlet Project’ and ‘Live Updates Syria’ organisations. The website is also raising funds for one ‘Cageprisoners Project. The website is reported to have featured an appeal from Iqbal Madani, a terrorist caught in Pakistan.
The website has listed several books for varied age groups including books on ‘dress code’ for women. There are audio and video lectures on the website to propagate the mission of Dawah.
