On Friday (December 31), former Tennis player Jimmy Connors made an appeal to allow India’s indigenous Covid-19 vaccine ‘Covaxin’ in the United States. Connors is the former No.1 who has won 107 titles, 8 grand slams between 1972 to 1996.

In a tweet, he wrote, “CNN, Fox News, FDA – You always talk about Pfizer, J&J, Moderna vaccines – may be a nod to Covaxin. #ocgn – an opportunity to have an option- a choice- allow Covaxin to get in the game – I’m not Dr but the others have had a chance – why not Covaxin!!!”

Jimmy Connors has been a strong advocate for the inclusion of Covaxin in the list of approved vaccines by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States. On December 17, the American tennis star remarked that there was no talk of India’s indigenous vaccine, despite being better than the other alternatives in the market.

A few days later, he tweeted, “There is another vaccine #covaxin that is available— gives people another option – should check it out- #Fauci #fda #variants I’m no Doctor— but always like to keep my options open- #choices.” Connors had made a similar appeal on the occasion of Christmas (December 25) as well.

Covaxin approval by WHO, UK and DGCI and a smear campaign

Covaxin is an indigenous COVID-19 vaccine that is developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with ICMR, and the National Institute of Virology (NIV). According to the website of Bharat Biotech, Covaxin has been developed using “Whole-Virion Inactivated Vero Cell-derived platform technology”. Despite smear vaccine to deride India’s achievement and stir vaccine hesitancy, about 15.59 crores of Covaxin have been administered as of December 31, 2021.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on November 3 granted the Emergency Use Listing status to Covaxin after the Technical Advisory Group of WHO recommended the same. In a tweet thread, WHO said the Technical Advisory Group (TAG), an independent advisory committee of the World Health Organisation (WHO), has recommended Emergency Use Listing (EUL) status for Covaxin, the Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by India’s Bharat Biotech.

On November 22, the United Kingdom recognised India’s indigenous Coronavirus vaccine Covaxin as valid in the country. In a statement released by the UK government, it said, “From 4 am on Monday 22 November, the government will recognise vaccines on the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL). As a result, Sinovac, Sinopharm Beijing and Covaxin will be added to our list of approved vaccines for inbound travel, benefitting more fully vaccinated people from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and India.”

Recently, the Drugs Controller General of India had approved the Covid vaccine Covaxin for minors aged 12 to 18. According to reports, DCGI had granted emergency use approval for Bharat Biotech to use the made-in-India vaccine to people in the age group 12 years to 18 years.

Yogi Adityanath has been one of the most successful Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh in terms of fighting the organised mafia, restoring law and order and also developing the state. At the ‘Destination Uttar Pradesh’ conclave, Yogi Adityanath spoke to Times of India and opened up about what made him join politics after he was appointed the successor of Goraksh Peeth in 1994.

Speaking to TOI, Yogi Adityanath narrated two incidents from 1994 and 1995 that shaped him and led him to join politics. He said that it was 1994-1995 when there was a well-known family from Gorakhpur who had two big havelis. Those havelis had been allocated, unilaterally, to the mafia by the Uttar Pradesh government and administration. When Yogi Adityanath met the family, he saw that they had torn down the two havelis. On being asked why, the family said that they tore down their property because, in this way, they would at least be able to retain the land. Had they not demolished the buildings, they would have been left with nothing since the mafia would have taken the havelis and the land over.

The other incident that Yogi Adityanath narrated related to a minister in Uttar Pradesh. While Yogi Adityanath did not name the minister, he said that one day, he got a call from a rich family who said that their property was being occupied by a minister. When Yogi reached there, he saw that the belongings of the individual were being thrown out of the house and that several people were standing around, but doing nothing. When Yogi Adityanath asked the people how they could do this given that the owner had not sold his property to them, the mafia simply waved some papers in his face. It was at that point in time that Yogi Adityanath says that he told the crowd to beat them up.

These two incidents and several incidents like these, Yogi Adityanath says, shaped his political career and compelled him to join politics. He says that now, nobody can afford to do such activity in Uttar Pradesh anymore and that they know if they illegally occupy any property they will face the bulldozer.

Further, talking about allegations of how his crackdown on the mafia was ‘one sided’, Yogi Adityanath said that the mafia is mafia and cannot be linked to caste, religion, creed or politics and that they are the worst enemy of the society – worse than coronavirus.

Saying that he is unfazed by the UP elections being a referendum on his work, Yogi Adityanath said that he is confident that BJP would get over 350 seats in the upcoming assembly elections.

Delhi HC refuses to ban Wasim Rizvi’s book ‘Muhammad’, plea demanded to destroy all copies, sold and unsold: Details

The Dehli High Court has rejected a plea that sought a ban on the book written by Wasim Rizvi, Muhammad, contending that the book contained remarks against Islam, the Quran and Prophet Muhammad. The suit was filed by Qamar Hasnain who had also sought damages worth Rs 2,05,00,000 to make Rizvi stop from committing such acts in the future.

The suit had sought a permanent injunction against the book, demanding that all copies of the book, sold and unsold be destroyed. The plea had also demanded that the books in print be recalled. The suit, seeking permanent injunction to stop Waseem Rizvi from making such provocative statements or publishing them on any platform, was dismissed by single-judge bench of Justice Sanjeev Narula.

The petitioner had approached the Delhi High Court on behalf of all practitioners of Islam and claimed that the book is not just offensive to practitioners of Islam, but was offensive, hateful and distressing to any other casual reader as well. The bench ruled that “in the absence of disclosure of infringement of any legal right, the plaintiff’s prayer seeking injunction and damages on account of being offended or aggrieved by the contents of a book – which allegedly is hurtful to his religious sentiments – would not give him any right to approach this court by way of the present suit”.

“For such suits, amongst other requirements as provided under Section 91 of CPC (Code of Civil Procedure), a suit if not filed by the Advocate General, has to be filed by two or more persons with the leave of the court,” the judge elucidated.

“Under this provision, a party can perhaps approach the court for an illegal act which in its nature tends to cause injury of the public at large. However, for a representative action, it is indispensable that reliance is placed upon such provisions of the statute. No such pleadings are found in the instant case,” the court remarked.

It is important to note that while the court dismissed the case because it was of the opinion that the petitioner did not have a legal right to bring this case to the court, the bench clarified that it had not commented on the merits of the case in this judgement.

Wasim Rizvi becomes Jitendra Narayan Swami

Former Shia Waqf Board chief Wasim Rizvi reverted to Hinduism by renouncing Islam in December 2021. He has been a frequent target of fundamentalists because of his statements. He converted to Hinduism in the presence of Mahant Yati Narasinghanand Giri at Dasna Devi temple in Ghaziabad. Rizvi was welcomed back into the faith of his ancestors in a series of rituals, after which he was named Jitendra Narayan Swami.

Recently, Rizvi launched his book ‘Muhammad’ in the presence of Dasna Mahant. After that, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi himself filed a complaint against him. In his complaint, Owaisi alleged that Rizvi wrote the book to hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community. Earlier, Rizvi had made headlines when he had filed a PIL to remove 26 verses from Quran, stating those verses allegedly encourage terrorism. As the head of the Shia Waqf Board, Rizvi had supported the struggle for the Ram Mandir at Ram Janmabhoomi, Ayodhya.

Assigning invented names does not alter the fact that Arunachal belongs to India: MEA on China ‘renaming’ 15 places in the state

Reacting to reports that China has assigned its own name to 15 places in Arunachal Pradesh, the Ministry of External Affairs has said that such a move does not alter the fact that Arunachal is an integral part of India.

A statement issued by the MEA spokesperson said:

“We have seen such reports. This is not the first time China has attempted such a renaming of places in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. China had also sought to assign such names in April 2017.

Arunachal Pradesh has always been, and will always be an integral part of India. Assigning invented names to places in Arunachal Pradesh does not alter this fact.”

Earlier today, the Chinese state media house Global Times had reported that China has ‘standardised’ the names of 15 places in Zangnan, the name China uses for Arunachal, ‘based on sovereignty and history’. The report had said that China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs has renamed those places in Arunachal, in accordance with regulations on geographical names issued by the State Council, China’s cabinet. The new ‘standardised’ names were issued in Chinese, Tibetan and Roman alphabet

The 15 places assigned ‘standardised names’ included eight residential areas, four mountains, two rivers and one mountain pass. This is the second such step taken by China, the country had ‘renamed’ six places in Arunachal in 2017 as part of its ongoing claim that Arunachal is part of China which it refers to as South Tibet or Zangnan.

‘It is a legitimate move and China’s sovereign right to give them standardized names. More standardized place names in the region will be announced in the future,’ Lian Xiangmin, an expert with the China Tibetology Research Center in Beijing, said. He added that ‘it is part of a national effort to standardize the management of place names’.

The eight renamed places are, Sêngkêzong and Daglungzong in Cona County of Shannan Prefecture, Mani’gang, Duding and Migpain in Medog County of Nyingchi, Goling, Damba in Zayu County of Nyingchi, and Mêjag in Lhunze County of Shannan Prefecture. Four mountains that new Chinese names are Wamo Ri, Dêu Ri, Lhünzhub Ri and Kunmingxingzê Feng, the two rivers are Xênyogmo He and Dulain He, and the mountain pass Sê La in Cona County.

It is interesting to note that there is already a mountain pass in Arunachal named Sela Pass, and it is not known whether the name Sê La has been assigned to this pass only.

In 2017, China had renamed 6 places in Arunachal, in apparent retaliation against the Dalai Lama’s visit to the state.

A 62-year-old Christian man in Karnataka has been arrested for desecrating several Hindu temples by dropping used condoms. Devadas Desai (62), son of John Desai, was arrested by Mangaluru South Police for dropping used condoms at various temple premises and in donation boxes in temples in the region. The police were looking for the accused behind such repeated desecrations for a year, and finally made the arrest.

At least five temples in Mangaluru had lodged complaints with the police after used condoms were found inside temple premises. However, the police were unable to find the culprit. But after a used condom was found inside a donation box at a temple in Korajjana Katte village on December 27, the man was finally nabbed. After the temple management complained to the police about the incident, CCTV footage from the temple and nearby areas were checked, and the man was seen dropping something in the donation and leaving the place.

Based on CCTV visuals, the police nabbed the person, and he confessed during interrogation that he had desecrated several temples in a similar manner.

“Five cases were registered at various police stations where used condoms were thrown in different temple premises in Mangaluru. With the help of the CCTV footage, our team managed to nab the accused,” Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashikumar said. The police informed that the accused has been identified as Devdas Desai, a native of Unkal in Hubbali, who has been living in Mangaluru for the past 20 years.

“Since his father’s days, the family has been practising Christianity. He left his wife and child many years ago and is not in touch with them. He is an ardent Christian,” Commissioner Shashikumar added. Police said that Desai desecrated religious places of other religions to make people follow his religion.

The accused used to work as an auto driver, but had left the job due to old age, and has been collecting plastic and selling it to scrap dealers to earn a livelihood.

Although five complaints of such incidents were reported, the accused has revealed that he has desecrated 18 places in total. The Police further informed that Desai had desecrated only Hindu religious places, but other holy places as well, including Gurudwaras and mosques.

“The accused had dropped used condoms in Gurudwaras as well as Mosques in the region. He has also revealed all the areas where has done such acts. When asked about how he can recall all the places clearly, he said he had worked as an auto driver for over 15 years and is well versed with all the places. He used to collect used condoms from waste dumps. We have also found some writings against other religions from his house,” Shashikumar said.

Apart from used condoms, Desai had also dropped letters to hurt the religious feelings of devotees, and disfigured images of politicians in the donation boxes.

Talking to the media, the man defended his action saying he was doing it to spread the message of Jesus. “I am spreading the message of Jesus from the past 15 years. The Bible says that except Jesus there is no other god. I used to drop these condoms as impure gifts must be given to impure places. I don’t have any remorse, the god has given us a life of 70 years and I am already 62 years old,” Desai reportedly said.

Police have found that the accused is not mentally ill, he can read and write, and answers all questions asked, making it clear that he was desecrating the temples fully aware of what he was doing.

It may be noted that in January this year, used condoms and posters of disfigured images of then CM BS Yediyurappa and his son BY Vijayendra with Christian messages were found from the hundi of Koragajja Guligajja Daivastana, near Ullal in Mangaluru. Defaced images of PM Modi, Amit Shah, JP Nadda and other BJP leaders were also found in the posters. Now it can be confirmed that Devadas Desai was behind this incident.

In an exclusive conversation with Goa Chronicle Executive Editor Sonakshi Datta, a mother of a now 18-year-old boy spoke about her family’s struggle in the fight for justice for her son, who was raped and sodomised by a Christian priest, Fr. Lawrence Joshi, in 2015, when he was 12-years-old. The pastor of the Church in Shivaji Nagar, Dadra in Mumbai was sentenced to life in prison by the Special POSCO Court.

“Fr Lawrence has been punished now but I had known, right back in 2015 that he would perish when he wronged my son. Lawrence had confessed about sexually exploiting my then 12-year-old son in front of me and my husband, going down on his knees, and had asked us to forgive him stating that such a ‘mistake’ would not be repeated in the future”, she said while conversing with the Goa Chronicle Executive Editor Sonakshi Datta.

It may be noted, that in 2015, the 12-year-old victim had told police that he and his brother went to the church in Shivaji Nagar, Dadar, on November 27, 2015. After the prayers, he was called inside by Fr. Lawrence under the guise of keeping a box. When the boy went inside, the pastor closed the door from the inside and sexually assaulted the minor. The minor had been left injured and bleeding. The boy added that the priest had done something similar a few months before the incident also. He had confessed the same in front of the magistrate too.

Pastors followers stage ‘morcha’, spread lies about the victim’s family

Recalling the harrowing incident and the repercussions it had on her son and her family, the victim’s mother claimed that when the family went to file a complaint against Lawrence, his followers staged a ‘morcha’ against them, accusing the victim’s family of spreading falsehoods about him for monetary benefits.

She added that whenever she went to court, the pastor’s supporters made derogatory remarks about her. She use to be alone in the courtroom, while the pastor had a slew of supporters standing by him, offering him biryani like delicacies, recalled the victim’s mother.

Minor attempts suicide, church goes on to shield the accused

The mother lamented that Father Lawrence had exploited her son three times and that her now 18-year-old son was still the same traumatised 12-year-old child who cannot go out in public for fear of being victimised again. She said this while confessing that her son still holds her hand for support.

The mother went on to describe how her distraught son had attempted suicide twice and was currently undergoing psychological counselling.

Further revealing the church’s obnoxious practises, she stated that after she notified the Vice President of the church about Lawrence’s wrongdoings and requested justice, he answered: “Let it be, leave it; he is a boy after all.”

She said she had also taken her son to the Cardinal of the church following his horrific encounter, but all the Cardinal said was that he was travelling for Rome and would resolve problems when he returned. The Cardinal has, however, remained aloof to the family and has never bothered to check in on the victim. “The church members continue to harass my family and most probably, would never leave us alone”, she rued.

She then described to Goa Chronicle how the church members held “morchas” (processions) outside her home and teased them in the streets about her son being raped. Her family, until today, has never been consoled by the church or the Cardinal, added the victim’s mother.

“Right from 2015 till now, one person, Brother Jo Soros of The Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP) stood by our side and assisted us through the hard times. SSVP always stands by the poor to help them. On the other hand, the Cardinal kept lying through his teeth saying he helped us and assisted us financially for my son’s treatment”, the boy’s mother added.

Even now, she claimed, when she and her husband went to church, people literally spat at them and pointed fingers at them, claiming their child had been raped. Despite all this, their trust in God has been unshakeable and would stay so, said the mother, asserting further: “I have turned into an immensely strong mother now.”

“Come what may, we will not get frightened and I am sure that even the Cardinal would be punished soon”, the mother said, looking determined in her struggle against the Church’s evil practises.

Mumbai Police have issued a high alert after receiving intelligence reports that Khalistani elements could carry out terrorist attacks in the city on new year eve. All holidays and weekly offs for the cops posted in Mumbai have been cancelled on December 31 in view of this threat.

“All police holidays & weekly holidays have been cancelled tomorrow and every policeman posted in Mumbai will be on duty. Information was received that Khalistani elements could carry out terrorist attacks in the city, after which the Mumbai Police has been on alert”, ANI quoted Mumbai police as saying.

In view of the situation, tight security has been arranged at major railway stations in Mumbai, including Mumbai, Dadar, Bandra Churchgate, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Kurla and other stations. Quaiser Khalid, the Commissioner of Police for Mumbai Railway informed that more than 3000 railway officers will be deployed tomorrow to monitor the security at railway stations.

Restrictions under section 144 of the CrPC are already in place in Mumbai, although it was imposed due to Covid-19. Any kind of new year celebrations and gatherings in any closed or open space, including hotels and restaurants, bars and pubs, have already been banned by BMC in the city in the wake of the emergence of Omicron variant of Coronavirus.

The high alert of a possible Khalistani terror attack in Mumbai comes in the wake of emergence of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) link with the Ludhiana court bomb blast. German police have arrested SFI leader for involvement in the blast, and reportedly he was involved in conspiracy to more blasts in Delhi and Mumbai. Punjab: ‘Hero’ of farmer protests arrested for promoting ‘Referendum 2020’ of banned group Sikhs For Justice

Patiala Police arrested 28-year-old Jagmeet Singh, his mother 50-year-old Jasvir Kaur and his friend 23-year-old Ravinder Singh for allegedly campaigning for the so-called Referendum 2020 of terrorist organisation Sikhs For Justice. They have been accused of appealing to the Sikhs on social media to vote for the referendum. Jagmeet Singh had made headlines as the face of farmer protests in November 2020 when his videos went viral facing water cannons of Haryana Police.

As per reports, Police said the trio has no previous case registered against them. Jagmeet and his mother originally hail from Durgapur village in Gurdaspur. However, currently, they are living in Banur’s Housefed Society. His friend Ravinder hails from Jasda village in Mandi Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib. All three have been campaigning for the referendum for some time. The trio has been sent to six-day police remand. The investigation is underway to find out if they had received any foreign funds for the campaigning.

The trio is accused of campaigning for a referendum in Rajpura during langar that was being organised to mark the martyrdom of Mata Gujri and the sons of Guru Gobind Singh. A case has been registered against them under Sections 153 A, 505 (2), 505 (3), 120-B of the Indian Penal Code.

GS Bains, DSP, Rajpura confirmed that Jagmeet was the same person whose video had gone viral during farmer protests last year. He said, “The trio accused were campaigning for a referendum in connivance with banned organisation Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) and were also motivating the masses to vote online for the referendum. Jasvir was the key campaigner. The bank accounts of all the accused are being examined to search if they got any foreign funding.”

HS Bhullar, SSP, Patiala said the Police recovered seized 692 forms and pamphlets, plastic plates, spray bottles, pens, and other campaigning material for the so-called Referendum 2020. He said, “Jasvir’s brother-in-law Manjit Singh was area commander of Babbar Khalsa International group, whereas her husband, Kuldip Singh, was working as a superintendent with Chandigarh Transport Undertaking. Ravinder is Jagmeet’s friend.”

On the other hand, the farmer leaders said they would see if he was being punished for participating in farmer protests. SS Pandher, leader of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, said, “We will take serious notice if Jagmeet has been punished for supporting farmers’ agitation.”

Jagmeet Singh’s viral video

On November 25, 2020, when protesters were marching towards Delhi to mark their protest against the now-repealed Agriculture laws, the Haryana Police used water cannons to disperse the protesters.During that time, Jagmeet stood in front of the water cannon and did not move for several minutes. Videos of Jagmeet went viral on social media platforms, and supporters of the farmer agitation hailed him as a ‘hero’.

During farmer protests, evidence showed that the movement was captured by anti-India forces, including Khalistani organisations, Naxal sympathisers and professional protesters. Khalistani terrorist organisations SFJ had announced a cash reward for anyone who hoisted the Khalistani flag on Red Fort on January 26, 2021. Two flags with Sikh Holy symbol were hoisted amidst riots in Delhi. Links to Khalistani sympathisers like Mo Dhaliwal were also revealed during the farmer protests.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy has accused West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar of sending him ‘provocative messages’ against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee every day. While terming it an unethical act, Roy alleged that Dhankhar often tweets against the TMC-led government after meeting BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Roy, however, has neither specified the kind of messages he allegedly receives from the Governor nor offered a specimen of any such message. Besides, the mode of messaging is also not clear.

However, the Governor has not responded to this daily diatribe of the TMC, but he has vehemently protested after Mamata Banerjee mocked him as a ‘Raja sitting in the Raj Bhavan.’

“Raj Bhavan me ek raja baithata hai. Wah kya nahin bolta hai. BJP ke president se bhi bada.” Bengal chief minister had hit the Governor during her political programme in Goa.

The Governor expressed shock that TMC officials, ministers and even CM have been publicly using the foulest and vituperative language to defame and insult the post of the Governor. Dhankar said that on December 16, he had urged the CM for interaction as constitutional functionaries must act in harmony to serve people. But she did not respond to his offer of dialogue and deliberation.

The Governor is also understood to have personally conveyed his anguish and anger to Bengal CM over her Raja in Raj Bhavan remark. In his message to Bengal CM, the Governor said her statement against him was hurtful and not in sync with constitutional norms of fact scenarios.

Governor Dhankar said that undeterred by such insinuations, he would continue to earnestly work to secure governance as per constitution and law. Besides, he termed the present scenario alarmingly worrisome.

The Bengal Governor has long been facing insinuations as he objected to the state government undermining constitutional norms while running the government. Besides, the state government has been accused of undermining the position of the Governor.

Position of Governor as Chancellor undermined

For instance, in a recent case, the government appointed vice-chancellors at 24 universities without the approval of the Governor-Chancellor who is the appointing authority.

Gujarat: Pastor rapes minor girl who went to church for prayers, wife records video for blackmail, both arrested

A pastor in Songadh taluka of Tapi district has been arrested on allegations of raping a minor girl. His wife, who has been accused of filming the incident and using it for blackmailing the minor girl, has also been arrested. As per reports, the incident occurred in May this year but the complaint regarding the same was registered at Songadh Police station on Tuesday.

Pastor Baliram Kokni and his wife Anita were subsequently arrested and produced before the court. The duo have been sent to police custody for four days. The minor girl worked as a farm labourer and went to the church for prayers. The accused then developed contacts with her and her parents. As per reports, the pastor and his wife called her to Songadh on pretext of getting KYC done and then allegedly raped her.

A report in Sandesh states that the girl was first raped in May in the hut in her farm. On next day also the pastor allegedly raped her by luring her by stating money will be deposited in her bank. During both the assaults, the pastor’s wife Anita was reportedly present. On 31st May 2021, the couple again called her to Songadh on pretext of getting her KYC done where she was allegedly raped a third time.

Shockingly, the pastor’s wife Anita, reportedly recored the heinous crime on the phone. The minor girl in her complaint has alleged that she was blackmailed with the pictures and clips of the assault. Police suspects that the minor girl did not file a complaint earlier for fear of her videos and pictures going viral on the social media.
