Meet Nadia Whittome, the 23-year old British MP who believes the democratically elected Govt of India is ‘colonial’

Nadia Whittome, the recently elected Member of Parliament to the United Kingdom’s House of Commons from Nottingham East, has generated quite the flutter in Indian circles on social media. In the aftermath of the Anti-Hindu Delhi Riots, the ‘Baby of the House’ (youngest MP) has labelled the communal riots where numerous Hindus were murdered as a ‘pogrom’ against the Muslim community, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

The 23-year old MP from the Labour Party has called the communal riots a “sustained and systemic Hindutva violence waged on Indian Muslims, sanctioned by the BJP”. She appears to have ignored entirely the rabid Islamists who incited the violence and engaged in an organized campaign of vandalism against Hindu-owned property and the murder of Hindus including policemen and Intelligence Bureau officials.

A member of Jeremy Corbyn’s faction within the Labour Party, Whittome has also embarked upon a slander campaign against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. She claimed that the RSS had contributed “absolutely nothing to the independence struggle” while “people like my grandfather risked their lives fighting for Indian independence”. Furthermore, she claimed that “They are not only continuing colonialism through the BJP, but now call themselves anti-colonialists.”

Nadia Whittome’s tirade against the RSS

Whittome’s opinions appear consistent with that of the politician she adores, Jeremy Corbyn. The far-Left Labour leader had led the party to its worst General Elections defeat in decades that gifted Boris Johnson’s Tories a resounding majority on its own in the British Parliament. Her politics appear to be consistent with that of her grandparents, who belonged to the Communist Party of India.

The Corbynite faction of the Labour Party can be roughly compared to the Bernie Sanders-inspired Justice Democrats in the United States, which consists of Congresswomen such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib among others. The Justice Democrats, who are socialists, wanted to kill ‘farting cows’ as part of their Green New Deal, an effort to stop the supposed impending climate change apocalypse. They are currently at war against the Moderate Democrats in the US, who are quite Far-Left in their own outlook, represented by Joe Biden in the Presidential Race.

Whittome, personally, was a pro-Remain candidate in the ‘Brexit’ General Elections in 2019 while her party’s stand on the matter was never quite clear. Leaders like her are a large part of the reason why the Labour Party suffered such a catastrophic defeat. A great section of the electorate saw the stand of the party as a great betrayal of the Democratic results of the Brexit Referendum and switched over to the Tories who promise to ‘Get Brexit Done’.

The young leader had said about Britain’s exit from the European Union, “Brexit is a threat to the jobs and livelihoods of people in Nottingham, to migrants, to our rights, the NHS, and our planet. As a hate crime worker, I see first-hand the rise of the far-right, which feeds itself off deprivation, disenfranchisement, and a sense of abandonment by the political establishment. I support a fresh referendum and I will campaign to stay in Europe – at the same time bringing the country together by tackling poverty and inequality, and giving people control over their lives.”

The story of Whittome’s rise to power resembles closely with that of AOC’s who was a bartender before she became a Congresswoman. Whittome told The Guardian in January, “It does feel really odd that, not very long ago, I was looking for Christmas temp work – got rejected from a lot of Christmas temp work – and now I’m a member of parliament.” She also scoffs at the idea that young people need more experience before becoming MPs, which is natural given the fact that she was elected to the House of Commons at the age of 23. Her opinions about the Delhi Riots, too, are consistent with AOC’s who had lied about Muslims being ethnically cleansed in India.

With regards to India, Whittome’s opinions are not of place with that of the humiliated Corbyn and her animosity towards the Indian Government appears consistent with that of other members of the party. Following the abrogation of Article 370, the Labour Party had passed a resolution that called for “international intervention in Kashmir” and demanded a UN led-referendum.

After the Indian diaspora registered its offence, the party backtracked on its resolution fearing the loss of votes in the looming General Elections. A Pakistani mob led by a Labour MP had also attacked the Indian High Commission following India’s action on Kashmir. The mob included other Labour MPs as well. The anti-India stand did not appear to end well with the party as it descended into a catastrophe in the General Elections.

Whittome was born to a Punjabi Sikh father, who emigrated to the United Kingdom when he was 21, and an Anglo-Indian Catholic Mother who emigrated from Kolkata in the 1950s. While she claims that her grandfather fought against the Colonial British for Indian Independence, her actions are completely at the polar ends of the spectrum. Her words reflect a desire for British interference in the internal matters of India. However, she appears to have missed the memo that India freed itself from British rule in 194 and is under no obligation whatsoever to care about what she and people like her have to say about Indian internal matters.

Given her stance on the internal affairs of India, Whittome’s claim that the RSS is continuing ‘colonialism’ appear rather ironic. However, it is consistent with the claims of far-left hacks in India such as Arundhati Roy who describe India as a colonial power. The BJP is an Indian political party and the Indian Government was democratically elected by the Indian electorate. Therefore, her claims of the BJP being a colonial power appears rather ironic given the heritage of her own country.

Man in Ghaziabad tested positive for Coronavirus, the total cases in India rise to 30

Another positive case of coronavirus has been reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad today, taking the total number of cases in India to 30 so far. According to reports, the Ghaziabad man reported positive is a middle-aged man with a recent travel history to Iran.

Karnataka: Crisis hits JDS as leaders look to switch loyalties

In what may seem to be a massive setback for the Janta Dal (Secular) or JDS in Karnataka, as rumours are making rounds that senior leader G T Deve Gowda may quit the party to join the BJP. According to a report by Economic Times (ET), many sitting MLAs have been unsettled about their party’s relevance.

Cracks are forming within Congress-JDS alliance as well as a disgruntled JDU leader told ET that if DK Shivkumar becomes the president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, it will weaken the JDS, especially in the Old Mysuru region. The leader further added that the Vokkalinga community would happily support the Congress leader who could become the Chief Minister if Congress wins the polls.

G.T. Gowda, who defeated the former chief minister Siddaramaiah in 2018 state assembly from Chamundeshwari in Mysuru, has reportedly been keeping away from party affairs. He is believed to have had a secret meeting with BJP Secretary, BL Santosh. G. T. Gowda has been upset about allocation of portfolio as well as denial of ticket to his son.

However, party supremo and former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda dismissed any concern regarding the issue. When quizzed, he responded “If someone goes or come again, I will not get disturbed by it, if someone goes. G.T. Gowda had in the past gone to BJP and come back, he had even become Minister here. Now he may again go back (to BJP). Why should I bother?”

Due to mounting pressure within the party they have started preparing for the 2023 assembly polls and have requested poll strategist Prashant Kishor to help them plan their strategy. JDS joins a long list of political suitors like DMK in Tamil Nadu and TMC in Bengal to avail his services to help them win their respective assembly polls. Prashant Kishor has previously worked with the BJP, JDU (where he was part of the party until recently), Samajwadi Party, Congress, YSR Congress and AAP.

Lok Sabha suspends seven Congress MPs for snatching and throwing paper on speaker’s chair, barred from attending rest of the budget session

Seven MPs of the Congress party have been suspended from the Lok Sabha for disrupting house proceedings, tearing and throwing papers in the well.

Reportedly, seven Member of Parliament of the Congress party has been suspended for the remainder of the Budget session for disrupting the lower house even after Lok Sabha speaker had issued a stern warning against creating ruckus inside the house.

A motion in this regard passed by voice vote in the Lok Sabha. The suspension is for the remainder of the session until April 3 and it was approved by a voice vote. All the seven members were suspended for the remainder of the Budget Session under Rule 374.

The decision to suspend Congress MPs came after they were seen snatching and throwing paper near the speaker’s chair. Parliament Party Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi had moved a resolution asking them to be suspended for the rest of the session.

The suspended MPs are identified as TN Pratapan – Member of Parliament from Thrissur, Kerala; Benny Behnan – Member of Parliament from Chalakudy, Kerala;  Dean Kuriakose – Member of Parliament from Idukki, Kerala; Rajmohan Unnithan – Member of Parliament from Kasargod Kerala, Gaurav Gogoi – Member of Parliament from Kaliabor, Assam; Manickam Tagore – Member of Parliament from Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu and Gurjit Aujla – Member of Parliament from Amritsar, Punjab.

On Tuesday, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla had warned MPs against suspension if they continued to disrupt the functioning of the house. He had read the riot Act to parliamentarians of both the ruling alliance and the Opposition in the wake of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress members of Parliament (MPs) being involved in a scuffle inside the House on Monday.

“Opposition parties must clarify whether placards should be brought in the House or not. Strict action will be taken against the MPs, be it of any party, who come to the well of the House. They will be suspended for the entire session,” Birla said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

The ruckus in Parliament took place against the backdrop of the Anti-Hindu riots in Delhi that shook north-east Delhi last week and led to more than 45 people being killed and several being seriously injured.

Nirbhaya case: Delhi court issues fresh warrant to hang convicts on 20th March, convicts’ lawyer blames media for ‘hanging them 4 times’

A Delhi court on Thursday issued a fresh death warrant to all four convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case. The order by the court states all four convicts to be hanged on March 20, at 05:30 am, reports ANI.

Reportedly, the order by a Delhi court comes after President Ram Nath Kovind had rejected the mercy petition of Pawan Gupta – one of the convicts in the Nirbhaya case.

Earlier on Wednesday, a plea was moved in a Delhi court, seeking fresh death warrant for the execution of the four convicts, contending that the convicts had exhausted all the legal remedies available to them. This is the fourth death warrant issued by a Delhi court.

Additional Session Judge Dharmender Rana issued notice to the convicts seeking their response on the application and slated the matter for hearing at 2 pm today.

Public prosecutor advocate Irfan Ahmad, appearing for the state, sought the issuance of a fresh date for execution on Wednesday, saying that the convicts have exhausted all the legal remedies available to them.

“The only legal remedy available to Pawan Gupta has also been exhausted. As there is no legal remedy left, please issue a fresh date of execution today itself,” he said.

On Monday, the court, for the third time, had stayed the death sentence of four convicts in the case observing that they cannot be executed while a mercy petition is pending before the President. However, the President has rejected the mercy petition of all the convicts in the case.

Meanwhile, Delhi gang-rape victim Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi on Thursday contended that the convicts have exhausted all the legal remedies.

“If there is any chance, I would like to see them die,” said Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi.

On Wednesday, she had thanked President Ram Nath Kovind for rejecting the mercy petition of Pawan Gupta, one of the four death row convicts in the case.

Meanwhile, AP Singh – the lawyer representing the convicts AP Singh, has blamed the media for promoting ‘judicial killings’. AP Singh, who helped the 4 convicts in filing multiple petitions challenging the execution, on Thursday, said that the convicts have already been killed 4 times and they are no terrorist.

“Media pressure has already killed them. They have been killed 4 times with 4 death warrants. They have been hanged 3 times,” said lawyer AP Singh, who has been representing the rape and murder convicts in court.

The lawyer also said, “The court tells us I am playing with fire this means I am being harassed and threatened.”

The four convicts in 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case were sentenced to death by a trial court in September 2013, and the verdict was confirmed by the Delhi High Court in March 2014 and upheld by the Supreme Court in May 2017, which also dismissed their review petition in July 2018.

“He was here to get pictures clicked, rub salt on our wounds”, Brijpuri woman expresses angst on Rahul Gandhi’s late visit to Delhi’s riot-hit area

After returning from his latest foreign trip, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi along with several other party leaders visited the riot-hit areas in northeast Delhi on Wednesday, to provide belated sympathy to the victims. The Wayanad MP visited a vandalised school in Delhi’s Brijpuri area.

The victims of the unprecedented violence, unleashed by Islamists on the Hindus, believe that Rahul Gandhi’s late visit to show solidarity to them is nothing but a gimmick and a political stunt. An eyewitness to the gory violence feels that Rahul Gandhi visit to their area was a mere joke, he wanted to poke fun at them and not show solidarity.

A woman from Delhi’s Brijpuri area who had confronted the Congress bigwig on his visit to a vandalised school in Brijpuri, while speaking to Times Now narrated her angst and rage at Rahul Gandhi’s antics.

Furious at the Gandhi scion, Vimlesh, the lady asks whether Rahul had come for a “picnic or just to get his pictures clicked”? She said that Rahul went to rub salts on their wounds. ‘He shouldn’t have come, he made a joke of us… he kept moving in and out of the road…what was he seeing on the road?”, asked Vimlesh.

She recalled how Hindus in her area were mercilessly attacked. She said “Hum bhag bhag kar jaan bachaye the… bahut mushkil se jaan bachaye..pathar pade the pathar” (we ran to save our lives…we saved ourselves with immense difficulties..the rioters rained stones at us).

She narrates how the frenzied mob pelted stones at the Hindu residents there, and one Hindu boy was shot. She recollects how the mob mowed down a rickshaw puller. She said: “the poor Rickshaw puller is survived by his three daughters. If Rahul Gandhi came here he should have helped the three orphaned kids, what was he here for.. was he here for a picnic?” asked Vimlesh in a fiery voice.

“Why is Rahul Gandhi being selective, he stood at the door but did not enter the houses of the victims in the area”, said Vimlesh. “He only visited the school. That can still be reconstructed, but what about the orphaned kids, will they get back their lost ones? why didn’t Rahul Gandhi visit them?” “Yahan koi nahi aaya”, Vimlesh said angrily.

“We are so scared… we are getting sleepless nights”, said Vimlesh to Times Now.

This was Congress party’s first visit to the area, where 48 people died and more than 200 were injured in spiralling violence over four days last week.

The Congress MPs, including senior Congress leaders K.C. Venugopal, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, K. Suresh, Mukul Wasnik, Kumari Selja, Gaurav Gogoi and Randeep Surjewala were ferried in a white tourist bus. Gandhi and party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala visited Brijpuri, one of the epicentres of the violence and paid a brisk visit to the Arun Modern Public Senior Secondary School.

A pet dog in Hong Kong tested positive for Coronavirus, authorities confirm first case of human to animal transmission of Disease

Health authorities in Hong Kong have confirmed the first case of Human to animal disease transmission when a pet dog belonging to COVID-19 novel coronavirus affected person was tested positive for the same.

As per the reports of ANI, the pomeranian picked up the virus by surface contamination through Nose and mouth and was repeatedly tested “weak positive” since last Friday. The owner of the pet is a 60-year old woman who was admitted to the hospital on 25 February after being confirmed infected with COVID-19.

The Pomeranian has been quarantined with the local Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation, later department said that the experts from the University of Hong Kong, City University and World Organisation for Animal Health has been consulted and all of them unanimously agreed the results suggested the dog had “a low-level of infection and it is likely to be a case of human-to-animal transmission”.

The Health Minister Sophia Chan Siu-Chee said during a press conference, “It is positive to test and has been infected, so it is now quarantined in a centre by the department. Further tests will be conducted and it will not be released until the tests return negative results.”

The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(SPCA)  in Hong Kong said that being infected is not as same as being infectious or capable of spreading the virus COVID-19.

“While the information tells us that the dog has a low-level of infection members of the public should note that the dog is showing no symptoms whatsoever. We have been informed the dog is currently very healthy and doing well at the quarantine centre,”, SPCA said.

Delhi anti-Hindu riots: AAP councillor Tahir Hussain arrested by Delhi Police in Ankit Sharma murder case

The suspended AAP councillor Tahir Hussain, who was absconding after being charged for the brutal murder of the IB sleuth Ankit Sharma has been arrested by the Delhi Police.

As per reports, Hussain went to Rouse Avenue court to surrender. However, the court dismissed his surrender plea and ordered him to be arrested. The court said it was not within its jurisdiction. On Tuesday he had moved the court with an anticipatory bail in connection with the murder case. However, on Thursday, Delhi’s Karkardooma Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea while observing that no one had appeared from the accused side.

Before surrendering Tahir Hussain in an interview with India Today asserted that he was innocent and that he was not even in his house when the mob entered. He alleged that BJP’s Kapil Mishra had conspired against him.

A day after Delhi police registered a case against Aam Aadmi Party leader Tahir Hussain for his involvement in the murder of IB employee Ankit Sharma and for instigating anti-Hindu riots in Delhi, the controversial AAP corporator had gone missing.

The Delhi police had filed a case against the AAP leader under Section 302(a) Murder, in the Dayalpur police station of Delhi.

On February 27, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had suspended Councillor Tahir Hussain from the primary membership of the party after he was named in a murder FIR.

The role of Aam Aadmi Party leader Tahir Hussain in the brutal murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) employee Ankit Sharma and also inciting riots in the Delhi has now been under scanner.

The dead body of an Intelligence Bureau constable was recovered from a drain in North East Delhi amidst anti-Hindu riots in the national capital. Ankit Sharma, who lived in Chand Bagh, was returning home on Tuesday evening when he was allegedly attacked by a violent mob on the Chand Bagh bridge and beaten to death. The Muslim mob had thrown his body into a drain.

The family of the deceased Ankit Sharma had accused AAP leader Tahir Hussain and his Muslim mob of dragging their son and brutally murdering him.

A day after Sharma’s family alleged his role in the riots and his murder, many crates of petrol bombs and stones have been found on the rooftop of the AAP leader.

Addition to that, in the anti-Hindu riots that erupted in North East Delhi earlier this week, AAP leader Tahir Hussain has emerged as one of the main kingpins. Videos have emerged which show hundreds of people throwing stones, petrol bombs from the roof of his building. Other videos show Tahir Hussain himself supervising the stone and petrol bomb pelting from his building, with a lathi in his hand.

Delhi riots: Police Commissioner meets officer Anuj Sharma who was injured trying to rescue DCP Amit Sharma from a violent mob

On Thursday, Commissioner of Delhi SN Srivastava visited Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Gokul Puri, Anuj Sharma who was attacked by the Muslim mobs during the anti-Hindu riots in Delhi on February 24.

ACP Anuj Kumar was injured during the violent clashes while rescuing Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amit Sharma.

DCP Amit Sharma was badly injured by the rioters and constable Ratan Lal was killed by the rioters as he tried to save IPS Sharma. Although initial reports had said that Ratan Lal died due to injuries from stone-pelting, the autopsy report had confirmed that he had died of a bullet injury.

As ACP Gokulpuri Anuj Sharma met Commissioner SN Srivastava, he narrated the incident and explained how he had rescued his colleagues including Shahdara DCP Amit Sharma on February 24 when they were attacked by violent Muslim mobs in North-East Delhi during the anti-Hindu riots.

Speaking to ANI, Sharma said the DCP fell unconscious after sustaining serious injuries and was rushed towards Yamuna Vihar side by them.

“On February 24, Shahdara DCP Amit Sharma got injured and fell unconscious beside the divider of Wazirabad Road in Chand Bagh where people had turned violent. Two other police personnel and I got him up and took him to the Yamuna Vihar side,” he said.

This was done while stones were being pelted at us by the violent mob, he added.

Reportedly, the injured ACP revealed horrific turn of events when his team was confronted with a heavily outnumbered violent Muslim mob.

ACP Sharma said that their team were trying to hold talks with the mob peacefully and asked them to stay confined to service road instead of the main road. But there was a rumour that some women and children got injured in police firing which acted as a catalyst and crowd got berserk. We were at a disadvantageous position, said the injured ACP who is now recovering.

“We had two companies accompanied by some local staff so we were approximately 250 personnel whereas the crowd was close to 25,000 to 30,000. We were steadily trying to persuade the ladies and the crowd but somebody started stone pelting and the situation got spiralled. As the distance between us and the mob was very less, tear gas was also not effective and the divider behind us was acted as a wall which created mayhem like situation,” he added while recalling the horrific turn of event.

A video of Delhi riots, presumably of February 24, has surfaced on social media where violent rioters at Chand Bagh area in East Delhi are seen pelting stones at police personnel as they try and rescue injured DCP Shahdara Amit Sharma. This is the same attack which reportedly claimed the life of constable Ratan Lal.

On the day of US President Donald Trump’s visit to India, the national capital has witnessed unprecedented violence. The anti-CAA riots turned communal in Delhi resulting in severe violence on the streets of  Delhi. The anti-Hindu riots that engulfed the streets of Delhi have resulted in deaths of around 47 persons and more than 220 people sustained injuries in the violence that started on Sunday.

The injured include around 70 persons from the security forces. 48 FIRs had been filed and 514 suspects had also been rounded up by the police. The cops have set up 2 SITs for investigating serious cases of offence that took place during the riots.
