Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad ‘Ravan’ ruined lives of many girls, kept his marriage hidden: Valmiki community girl who won ₹1 crore scholarship and spoke in UN

On 21st April, a girl from the Valmiki community, Rohini Ghavari, levelled serious allegations against Bhim Army’s chief Chandrashekhar Azad ‘Ravan’. Ghavari, who is pursuing PhD in Switzerland, accused Chandrashekhar of playing with the lives of many girls. Notably, Ghavari has already revealed that she was in a relationship with Chandrashekhar. She is the daughter of a sanitation worker from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Chandrashekhar is contesting Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from Nagina constituency, Uttar Pradesh.

Ghavari released a video of herself on a video call with Chandrashekhar where he was seen crying. In the post, she said that he showed “fake tears” and forced many girls to trust him. According to her, it was her mistake to consider Ravan a true revolutionary and stand with him. She alleged that Chandrashekhar had proved her false in front of the society for which she was considering staying abroad.

She added that she has paid the price of being a truthful girl and only she can understand the pain she went through while living alone in a foreign country. She said, “Now I will never be able to trust any man in life, so I am very far from things like marriage and relationships. Now my remaining life is dedicated to the country and society. I am tired of enduring false allegations, whenever I do something good, people start accusing me. I am getting a good punishment for being a girl. As the whole society is becoming foolish, I have also become one. I had sacrificed with the thought that we would both do something good for society by staying together.”

Ghavari alleged that Chandrashekhar Azad ‘Ravan’ played with the honour of many girls by hiding his marriage. She said that even a “woman” supported him in this because of the crores of rupees he was receiving for his “movement”. She added that if his reality had been made public earlier, many innocent girls’ lives would have been saved from getting ruined.

In another post, she alleged she was getting attacked for her statements. She alleged that people were accusing her of being linked to BJP/RSS and taking money [for making statements]. She further questioned why she was not getting support from the men of her community. She said, “Don’t say anything before elections. Don’t say anything after elections. Just keep quiet. Just because he is the leader of the community”. She added, “Why can’t you see my pain? Why am I being portrayed as wrong?”

Who is Rohini Ghavari?

Rohini Ghavari is a girl from the Valmiki community pursuing PhD in Switzerland. Recently, she made a post explaining how different people, including teachers, professors and her friend from the Brahmin community helped her achieve what she has achieved to date. She said her teacher Sharma Sir informed her about the scholarship which made it possible for her to go to Switzerland for a PhD. Furthermore, her friend in Switzerland who is also from the Brahmin community never let her feel alone. She then mentioned a Pandit uncle who informed her about the opportunity to speak at the UN.

In Geneva, Ghavari not only spread awareness about education but also raised a voice for the Dalit community. The Indian government awarded her a scholarship of Rs 1 crore for her studies. While foreign institutions portray India in a wrong way, Ghavari did her best to expose the anti-India elements by informing how Dalit students study in foreign universities with the help of the Indian government.

Tamil Nadu: Reports claim woman died after DMK workers assaulted her for voting for BJP, police call it fake news saying it was a family feud

On Friday (19th April), a mob of Dravidra Munnetra Kazagham (DMK) workers allegedly attacked a woman named Gomathi for voting for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as per local reports.

The incident occurred in the Pakkirimaniyam village in the Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu. As per a report by Dinamalar, the DMK goons came to the residence of Gomathi after learning that she had voted for the BJP.

They had a heated argument with the victim, following which they brutally assaulted her. “Why didn’t you vote for our party,” they were heard saying.

According to a report by Nakkheeran, Gomathi died on the spot after being mercilessly attacked by the DMK goons. On receiving information about the matter, the police rushed to the place.

The cops then transferred the dead body of the victim to the Vrudhachalam Government Hospital for autopsy. The police are now looking for seven accused, who are identified as Arul, Pandian, Arivumani, Ravi, Raja, Kalaimani, and Dharmaraj.

Reacting to the incident, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai called it a very shocking incident. He tweeted that ‘DMK’s dictatorial tendency to do away with even the basic right of voting given to the citizens by the Constitution is very dangerous for democracy.’

In the meantime, the police have arrested three women for their involvement in the murder of Gomathi.

Police deny voting angle

However, later Tamil Nadu police denied the political angle to the incident and claimed that the woman died as a result of a feud between two families. In a statement issued responding to the reports of the incident, Cuddalore District Police claimed that the woman died after falling down while trying to stop a fight between two families.

According to the police statement, there is an old enmity between the families of Kalamani and Jayashankar. As per the police, the fight is the result of teasing of Jayashankar’s daughter Jayapriya by the family members of Kalaimani. Moreover, Kalamani was also angry over Jayashankar for not withdrawing a case against him for assaulting Jayashankar’s elder brother Jayakymar.

The statement says that both parties were fighting each other unarmed, when Gomathi, wife of Jayakumar, tried to intervene and stop the fight. But she fell down and got injured, resulting in her death, the Cuddalore District Police said.

A case against 10 persons were booked in the case, and five of them, Kalaimani, hiw wife Deepa, and their relatives Ravi, Meghnathan and Indumani were arrested and remanded to judicial custody on 20 April.

The police stated that the allegation that she was attacked for voting in favour of a particular party is completely false, and that the video related to this incident is totally fake.

Reposting the Cuddalore District Police statement, the official handle of Tamil Nadu Police warned stern legal action against a social media user who had shared the allegation. “Don’t spread false news. Stern legal action follows,” tweeted Tamil Nadu police.

Tamil Nadu went to polls on Friday (19th April) in all 39 Lok Sabha constituencies. The ruling DMK government faces an uphill challenge in the State from the Annamalai-led BJP.

Central African Republic: At least 58 dead after a boat carrying over 300 people to funeral sinks in capital Bangui

At least 58 people going to a funeral died after their overloaded boat capsized in Bangui, the capital of Central African Republic, the head of civil protection said on Saturday (20th April). It is feared that the death toll could rise as dozens of people are still missing.

Speaking with Radio Guira, Thomas Djimasse said, “We were able to extract 58 lifeless bodies. We don’t know the total number of people who are underwater.”

Witnesses and videos of the incident, which have surfaced on social media, indicate that a wooden boat carrying more than 300 people overturned and sank on the Mpoko River on Friday.

As per reports, the overcrowded boat was on its way to the funeral of a village chief. Shortly after departure, it capsized, forcing passengers to jump into the water to survive. Fishermen and local residents rushed to the scene to attempt a rescue operation, while official rescuers arrived 40 minutes after the incident.

Maurice Kapenya followed the boat in a canoe as there was not enough space for him on the board. He said that he collected the bodies of some of the victims, including his own sister, with the help of fishermen and residents.

On Saturday, families were observed searching near the river for their missing loved ones.

Footage shared on social media vividly captures people either falling or leaping into the water, desperately trying to reach the safety of the riverbanks. Strikingly, boat disasters are sadly common in the Central African Republic.

Speaking with French-language broadcaster RFI, a witness said, “What just happened was terrifying. I know a family who’ve lost seven relatives in this tragedy.”

In a flurry of social media posts, civil society groups and local political parties expressed their condolences and demanded an inquiry in the boat sinking incident.

Since 2013, the former French colony has been embroiled in a civil war following the ousting of former president Francois Bozize by a Muslim-dominated armed coalition known as the Seleka.

Karnataka: Police arrest Sadiq and Adil for justifying Neha’s murder by Fayaz by calling it ‘Justice for Love’

On 20th April, Hubballi-Dharawad police arrested two men identified as Sadiq Imam Saab Tadakoda and Adil, both residents of Dharwad, for social media posts justifying Fayaz stabbing his former classmate Neha to death in Hubballi. Notably, Fayaz murdered Neha for declining his proposal of a relationship on 18th April at BV Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology in Hubbali.

Sadiq and Adil were arrested after a complaint was filed by a few pro-Hindu activists at Vidyagiri Police Station. The duo had posted on social media claiming Neha and Fayaz were in a relationship. Several posts with captions such as “Justice For Love” and “Justice For True Love” have gone viral on social media justifying Fayaz’s actions. Most of such posts are made by Islamists.

Even some so-called journalists tried to indirectly propagate that they were in a relationship. In a post, a journalist named Nabila Jamal said, “As the family comes to terms with the loss, here’s a video that’s surfaced showing a picture compilation of Neha & Fayaz looking visibly comfortable as friends… End reality is unthinkable.” She posted a photo montage where Neha and Fayaz were seen together. The photographs were picked possibly from now-deleted Neha’s Instagram account. Furthermore, the video contained India Today’s logo.

Supreme Court upholds tribunal order asking Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev-led Patanjali Trust to pay service tax on Yoga camps

0

On Friday (19th April), the Supreme Court upheld an appellate tribunal’s ruling that Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust is liable to pay service tax for charging an entry fee for organising Yoga camps, both residential and non-residential.

The bench comprising Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan refused to interfere with the 5th October 2023 decision passed by the Allahabad bench of the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT).

While dismissing the appeal by the Trust led by Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, the bench said, “The tribunal has rightly held that Yoga in camps for a fee is a service. We do not find any reason to interfere with the impugned order. The appeal is dismissed.”

Earlier, the CESTAT had held that Yoga camps organised by Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust, which charges participation fees, come under the category of “health and fitness service” and attract service tax.

Its order had noted that the Trust, working under Yoga guru Ramdev and his aide Acharya Balkrishna, was engaged in providing Yoga training at various residential and non-residential camps. According to the tribunal, a fee was collected from the participants by way of donation.

It stated, “Though this amount was collected as a donation, it was fees for providing the said services and hence covered under the definition of consideration.”

The order added that the Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise, Meerut range has raised the service tax demand of approximately Rs 4.5 crore from October 2006 to March 2011, with penalty and interest.

The development came after the Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust had approached CETSAT to challenge the October 2012 order of the Commissioner of Customs & Central Excise, Meerut.

The Trust had argued before the CESTAT that its activities were not taxable under the health and fitness services stating that as per the definition it extended to yoga for physical fitness and not yoga for therapeutic purposes. The Trust clarified that the contributions received from participants of these yoga camps were voluntary donations, not payments for any services rendered.

However, the CETSTAT rejected the arguments raised by the Trust. The tribunal had relied on the definition of “health and fitness service” in the Finance Act, 1994 as meaning “service for physical well-being such as a sauna and steam bath, Turkish bath, solarium, spas, reducing or slimming salons, gymnasium, yoga, meditation, massage (excluding therapeutic massage).”

In its reply, the Trust had also contended that it was providing services which are for curing ailments. They are not taxable under “health and fitness service”, it had said.

In its order, the appellate tribunal said, “In our view, the appellant (Patanjali Trust) was engaged in providing the services that were classifiable under the taxable category of services provided by health club and fitness centre, as defined under Section 65 (52) of the Finance Act, to any person.”

It added, “The claim of the appellant that they are providing treatment for specific ailments being suffered by the person is not supported by any positive evidence. Instructions on ‘Yoga’ and ‘Meditation’ in these camps are not imparted to an individual but to the entire gathering together. No prescriptions are made for any individual in writing, diagnosing, and treating the specific ailment/complaint of any individual.”

According to the appellate tribunal, the Trust collected the entry fee disguising it as a donation.

It had said, “They issued entry tickets of various denominations. The holder of the ticket was granted different privileges depending on the denomination of the ticket. In return, the appellant provided the person entry to the camp where Swami Baba Ramdev would give instructions in respect of Yoga and Meditation.”

Misleading ad case

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev is currently embroiled in another legal battle as the Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah has rapped him on multiple occasions in the alleged ‘misleading ads’ case. The court also rejected his apology as ‘mere lip service’.

During a hearing on 16th April, Baba Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurved MD Acharya Balkrishna proposed to “redeem themselves” and take several steps on their own initiative for the same. Baba Ramdev also offered to issue a public apology for the misleading advertisement case. Following this, the Supreme Court bench adjourned the matter next for 23rd April.

Delhi Excise Policy Scam: Conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar writes letter to Home Ministry, wants to become approver, says he has chats with AAP leaders about the case

0

Conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar, who is currently lodged in Delhi’s Mandoli jail, has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs and expressed a desire to participate in the ongoing investigation into the alleged Delhi Excise Policy Scam.

In his letter to the Home Ministry, Chandrasekhar allegedly included screenshots of conversations between him and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders including former Delhi minister Satyendra Jain and Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal. He also claims to have included screenshots of his conversations with BRS MLA Kavitha, who is currently in judicial custody in the excise policy scam case.

As per reports, the conversation between the conman and political leaders was about the details of the cash exchange. They used the “Ghee Tin” codeword for one crore cash. Chandrasekhar claimed that his employees collected cash from Hyderabad on Kavitha’s instructions and the money was then transferred to Delhi and Goa. Sukesh further added that the conversation would provide ample evidence against Kavitha, Satyendra Jain and Kejriwal in the alleged scam.

This is not the first time Chandrasekhar has made such claims. In April 2023, it was reported that he released chats with Kavitha and others. He frequently referred to Kavitha as his ‘Akka’ (older sister) in the messages. The messages unveiled the conversation about 15 crores which are referred to as ’15 kg ghee’ by them. “Bro ghee tin ready,” he told the politician. “Full na,” Kavitha inquired to which he assured her that it is indeed 15 kg.

Sukesh Chandrasekhar said that 1 kg ghee means Rupee 1 crore, a codeword allegedly used to talk about money given to TRS by AAP. He had claimed that Kejriwal gave instructions for the delivery of Rs 15 crore to the TRS office, referring to it as 15 kg ghee.

He claimed that his disclosure will reveal the connection between AAP, TRS, and the infamous South Block, asserting, “The chat screenshot will show how the leader of TRS instructs the delivery of 15 crores @ 15 kg ghee to an associate Arun Pillai who kept the boxes of cash in a black Range Rover Sport 6060 with an MLC sticker on the front windshield parked inside the TRS headquarters.”

Who is Sukesh Chandrasekhar

Sukesh Chandrasekhar is a conman who is being investigated by the Delhi Police in connection with an alleged Rs 215 crore criminal conspiracy, embezzlement, and extortion case. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police had previously filed an FIR against Chandrasekhar for allegedly defrauding the spouses of erstwhile Ranbaxy promoters Shivinder Singh and Malvinder Singh of Rs 215 crore.
