Ram Mandir inauguration: Railways to run over 1,000 special trains to Ayodhya from different parts of the country

There is welcome news for those who wish to visit Ayodhya to witness the historic Ram Mandir inauguration ceremony. As the much-anticipated convocation on 22nd January approaches, the Indian Railways is gearing up to facilitate the journey for Hindu pilgrims by running over 1,000 special trains from various locations to Ayodhya around the country from 19th January. The operation is scheduled to continue for the first 100 days of the grand event.

The temple would be accessible to the general public from 23rd January which is one day after the consecration of Lord Sri Ram’s idol. The holy city would be connected to 25 major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata, Nagpur, Lucknow, and Jammu through these trains which would make travel easier for the devotees.

According to a source, the number of trains could be raised in response to demand and the Ayodhya station has been renovated to accommodate the anticipated surge in tourists. The rebuilt station which can handle 50,000 visitors per day is expected to be finished by 15th January.

While the railways has decided to run over a thousand special trains, the exact number and the schedule of the trains are being worked out in consultation with the state administration. Railway officials said that the number of these proposed trains can be increased considering the demand. The station at Ayodhya has also been revamped to cater to the high number of footfalls.

A few trains have also been designated aside as chartered services for pilgrimage groups. As a result of the high volume of pilgrims travelling to Ayodhya during this time, the Indian Railway Food and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is preparing to offer 24-hour food services. There are going to be several food vendors contracted to meet the demand. Apart from IRTC, several charity organisations will also offer food and water to the visiting pilgrims.

In addition to seeing the birthplace of Lord Ram, pilgrims would have the opportunity to experience the holy Saryu River from the comfort of an electric catamaran. Devotees who seek a spiritual experience in Ayodhya would find the 100-person catamaran to be an added attraction.

The majestic Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is slated to have its ground level finished by the end of this year. The general secretary of the Sri Ram Janmbhoomi Tirath Kshetra Trust, Champat Rai released beautiful photographs of the temple’s sanctuary sanctorum on 9th December.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the event to install the Ram Lalla idol on the temple grounds on 22nd January, drawing thousands of Lord Ram followers to Ayodhya for the landmark event. Furthermore, notable individuals like industrialists Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani and Ratan Tata, cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli and Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan among other actors are invited to the consecration ceremony.

The plans for the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Inauguration are reportedly under the control of the Ram Mandir Trust. As they approach the temple’s premises, devotees would be able to see Lord Ram Lalla from 320 feet away. However, the devotees would not be provided prasad after darshan and prayer.

All Ram devotees would receive prasad on the day of the inauguration as a result of special arrangements. Four rows of devotees are going to be set up for darshan and between 1.5 and 2.5 lakh people are projected to visit the sacred site in a single day.

‘No foreign educational institutes can offer degrees in India without prior approval’: UGC to take action against EdTechs offering foreign degrees

0

The University Grants Commission (UGC) will take action against all the EdTech companies offering degree and diploma courses in online mode in association with foreign universities, officials said on Saturday.

In a public notice, the UGC said that no foreign higher educational institution can offer any programme in India without the prior approval of the commission.

This comes as the Delhi High Court in September directed the University Grants Commission (UGC) to take necessary action against the universities and colleges offering unspecified degrees and ensure compliance with the law, including penal provisions on the issue.

The UGC notice dated December 12 mentioned that some EdTech companies are giving advertisements offering degree and diploma programmes in online modes in association with some foreign universities and institutions.

Such a franchisee arrangement is not permissible and any such programme or degree shall not have UGC recognition, the officials asserted.

“Action will also be taken against all the defaulting EdTech companies as well as the HEls under applicable laws, rules and regulations,” the notice mentioned.

The notice also mentioned that many higher-education institutions (HEIs) and colleges have entered into collaborative agreements and arrangements with foreign-based educational institutions and providers not recognised by the Commission and have been facilitating the issuance of degrees to the students enrolled in those institutions and colleges from such foreign-based educational institutions and educational providers.

“Any such kind of collaboration or arrangement is not recognised by the University Grants Commission and accordingly, the degrees issued after such collaboration and arrangement are also not recognised by the Commission,” the notice mentioned.

Mumbai police arrest one Dildar Hussain Ali from Assam for sextortion of a woman, around 2,500 people had gathered to protect him

0

On Thursday (14th December), Mumbai police arrested a 23-year-old man named Dildar Hussain Ali from Assam after conducting a day-long search in a forest in Assam’s Sonitpur district for recording a nude video of a victim from Andheri (East) and subsequently using it to extort money. When the police team arrived in the village on Tuesday, around 2500 individuals had assembled to assist accused Dildar Hussain Ali in evading capture. Over the past year, the accused coerced a minimum of Rs 1 lakh from the victim by fabricating a false Instagram account and using it to upload a video for blackmail.

Dildar Hussain Ali – a school drop-out – possessed the technical know-how to record WhatsApp Video Calls. He utilized this skill to compel the 20-year-old victim, who was a graduate, to undress during the video call. A police officer from the MIDC Seepz police station in Andheri (East) Mumbai said, “Initially, the police team was in a dilemma about where to head first on tracking his location, shown in Assam and Kerala. The team then decided to head to Assam, where Ali was arrested after a day-long search of the jungle.”

This case was filed in the MIDC Seepz police station in Andheri (East) Mumbai on 30th November 2023. The victim woman who works in a firm in Andheri was fed up with the frequent blackmailing and harassment from the accused. Accused Dildar Hussain Ali forced her to transfer money to his bank account.

A police officer said, “The complainant had come in contact with Ali a few months ago on a social media platform. He befriended her, promised marriage and started chatting on video call. He forced her to do obscene acts and recorded them. He then created a fake social media account and uploaded these videos. Even after she filed a complaint, Ali demanded money to not circulate these videos further.”

In her complaint, the victim woman said, “The blackmailing began after I rejected his marriage proposal when I learned that the accused whom I befriended on social media as Dildar Khan is a school dropout and unemployed. This annoyed him and started posting the video screenshot which he recorded that he captured during our intimate chats.”

DCP Datta Nalawade led the supervisory role for the team, which included ACP Dr Shashikant Bhosale, MIDC Police Senior Inspector Satish Gaikwad, Inspector Tukaram Koyande, Sub-Inspector Pramod Khotwad, and supporting staff. This team successfully traced the accused to Assam.

A police officer said, “Ali’s parents took the villagers’ help to get him to escape on learning that the police team had arrived in Assam to arrest him. Around 2500 villagers gathered outside Ali’s house. The team took the superintendent of police’s help in Assam to comb out the entire jungle which lasted over 12 hours before he was nabbed.” The accused was arrested on Thursday.

Dildar Hussain Ali has been booked under the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act for sexual harassment, defamation, and computer-related offences among others.

On Friday (December 15), a Varanasi MP/MLA court sentenced mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari to five and a half years in prison for threatening a witness in the kidnapping of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad treasurer. The court also fined Ansari Rs 10,000 for threatening Mahavir Prasad Rungta, the brother of coal businessman and VHP treasurer Nand Kishore Rungta, who was kidnapped from his Varanasi office on January 22, 1997. This is the jailed mafia’s seventh conviction since September last year.

Mukhtar Ansari, who was visibly upset after hearing the ruling, reportedly began pleading with the judge. Mukhtar Ansari sat with his head down and his hands on his forehead as soon as the sentence was pronounced by the court. Following this, Ansari appealed to the judge, saying, ‘Judge Sahab, please have mercy so that all my sentences proceed simultaneously.’ However, in the decision given by the court, it was already mentioned.

Nand Kishore Rungta, a coal businessman from Jawahar Nagar of Bhelupur police station area of Varanasi, was murdered after being
kidnapped on January 22, 1997. Reports say that Nand Kishore was killed even after the family paid a ransom of Rs 1.25 crore to the kidnapper. After this, on the evening of November 5, 1997, Nand Kishore Rungta’s brother Mahavir Prasad Rungta, a witness in the case, received bomb threats on his landline not to file a complaint with the police.

A case in this regard was registered at Bhelupur police station on December 1 of that year on Mahavir Rungta’s complaint. After the investigation, the police presented the charge sheet against Mukhtar Ansari before the court on July 3, 1998.  “Mukhtar threatened to bomb our home if we did not stop pursuing the case of kidnapping of my brother before the CBI. The CBI probe into the Rungta kidnapping case had already been accepted on the application of his wife,” Mahavid Rungta had said in his complaint.

In the last 15 months, Ansari has been convicted in seven cases. In the same vein, a Varanasi court convicted Mukhtar on Friday for threatening the Rungta family. The erstwhile gangster was connected via video conferencing during the hearing. Following the hearing, Ansari was sent to the solitary barrack.

Uttar Pradesh: Rs 25,000 each reward announced to nab Aligarh Muslim University students Abdul and Faizan for ISIS module link

0

On 8th December Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad declared a monetary award of Rs 25,000 each on two Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students for their affiliation with the terror group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The accused have been identified as 25-year-old Abdul Samad Malik of Sambhal and 24-year-old Faizan Bakhtiyar from Prayagraj. They were reportedly residents of the VM Hall hostel of the institution and were pursuing master’s degrees in social work from there.

The two are also connected to the Students of Aligarh Muslim University (SAMU) and used to participate in propaganda for ISIS. Authorities recently busted the network of the terror outfit in the country. According to police on 15th December, nine members of the terror group’s module have been arrested from Uttar Pradesh and other states since 2nd October.

Abdullah Arsalan and Maaz bin Tariq, members of the ISIS Pune module, were taken into custody on 3rd November, as per Additional Director General (ADG) ATS Mohit Aggarwal. The module comprised multiple Aligarh Muslim University students. ATS identified these students and discovered that they were associated with Aligarh Muslim University students Abdul Samad Malik, Faizan Bakhtiyar, Mohammed Arshad Warsi and Mohammed Shahnawaz Alam from Jharkhand, Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali who is a native of Delhi, Wajihuddin Ali Khan, Abdullah Arsalan and Maaz bin Tariq from Aligarh, Mohammad Naved Siddiqui of Chandausi, Sambhal and Rizwan Ashraf from Uttar Pradesh.

On 3rd November the ATS filed a formal complaint against Shahnawaz and ten other individuals under various sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and Indian Penal Code sections 121-A (conspiracy to wage war against the country) and 122 (collecting arms and ammunition with the intention to wage war against the nation).

According to officials, this module first surfaced after Shahnawaz and Rizwan who were connected to the AMU’s Students of Aligarh Muslim University (SAMU) student body were apprehended by the Mumbai ATS on 2nd October. Afterwards, with the arrest of Arsalan and Tariq on 3rd November as part of the ongoing operation against the AMU-ISIS module, the UP ATS filed a First Information Report against Shahnawaz and ten other individuals.

On 11th November, Wajihudeen who is another module member was captured in Chhattisgarh’s Durg. Officials revealed that he possesses a PhD from AMU and is employed by the ISIS network while masquerading as a member of SAMU.

Furthermore, four more present and former AMU students from the Sambhal and Bhadohi districts were detained by the ATS on suspicion of being connected to the module. They were Sambhal residents 23-year-old Naved Siddiqui, 27-year-old Mohammed Noman and 33-year-old Mohammed Nazim along with 29-year-old Raqeeb Imam of Bhadohi, based on UP ATS officials. Mohammed Noman completed his BA (Hons), Naved Siddiqui was pursuing a BSc and Raqeeb Imam had completed his MTech and BTech while Mohammed Nazim had graduated from the same university.

The ATS has taken action against the terror network run by several ISIS terrorists who have turned self-radicalised and are connected to the SAMU, according to Special Director General for Law and Order Prashant Kumar. He unveiled they were spreading ISIS’s ideology and aimed to impose Islamic law on the whole world.

Wajihuddin Ali Khan used social media to introduce young people to the ISIS’s jihadi ideology. The perpetrators intended to become Mujahids and impose Sharia rule by carrying out jihad in India after viewing the videos of the infamous Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Members of this module were active in Aligarh, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Sambhal, Rampur, Kaushambi, and other areas. They were all encouraging other AMU students to become members of the dreaded outfit. Wajihuddin received directions to commit acts of terrorism from a handler seated in Pakistan. He was the mastermind of the Pune module and was nabbed by ATS while Shahnawaz and Rizwan had been arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell.

Parliament security breach: Accused initially planned self-immolation, had wanted to start political party through media attention

On Friday (15th December) new updates surfaced during the investigation of the parliament security breach case. It is found in the police probe that the accused initially planned to set themselves ablaze outside the parliament but the plan was abandoned. The police are also checking if there is a foreign funding angle in this case.

On Friday, the investigators said that the individuals who infiltrated Parliament security and released yellow smoke within the Lok Sabha sought to attract media attention to establish a political party. They believed that it was the most effective means to articulate and convey their ‘opinions’. One of the arrested accused Sagar Sharma told police that the intruders had initially planned to set themselves ablaze outside the parliament. Later this plan was abandoned.

The investigating officer said, “He said that to form a political party, they had to do something that would get them media attention. He said that they didn’t want to align with any other political party because their ideology didn’t match.”

According to the information shared by the officer, these intruders wanted to stage the self-immolation without getting any serious burn injuries. For this, they had also planned to buy a gel-like material so that they would not burn. The officer said, “He said that they tried to buy this gel online and also collected money but couldn’t get through with the payment.”

On Friday, the Delhi police also submitted the details of the case unearthed so far in front of the Patiala house court. The police said that Lalit Jha was the mastermind of the entire parliament security breach episode conspiracy. The police asserted that the intruders wanted to create anarchy in the country to force the government to meet their demands. The police may also seek permission to recreate the crime scene in the new parliament.

Lalit Jha is sent to 7 days police custody for further interrogation. The police contended in the court that the accused held multiple meetings before executing this attack. The police sought the custody of the accused to ascertain if he was attached to any terror outfit or enemy country.

The police said in the court, “Jha disclosed that they wanted to create anarchy in the country so that they can compel the government to meet their demands. He took the phones (of other accused) to hide them and to destroy evidence as part of the larger conspiracy. He disclosed that he threw his phone away on the way from Jaipur to Delhi. His custody is needed to undertake an in-depth investigation to unearth the larger conspiracy behind the attack, involvement of other persons, and to find the actual motive behind the attack.”

The police further told the court, “We need him to confront the accused with each other, to locate the mobile phones, to take him to the hotel where stayed for four days, and to know the financial transaction and funding behind the attack.”

The investigations are also going on to check if there was any kind of foreign funding to these intruders to execute this security breach in the parliament. Authorities suspect the engagement of foreign funding, given the accused’s strategic planning and repeated visits to Delhi for recce. The police are also actively seeking the individual who assisted them in creating shoes with concealed compartments to hide canisters.

A senior police officer mentioned that police will be taking Jha to Rajasthan to trace the places where he threw his phone and burnt the phones of others. The officer said, “After the incident, he fled to Rajasthan where he stayed for two days and returned to Delhi last night.”

According to the police, the primary hurdle in this case lies in the absence of the accused individuals’ mobile phones, which could be instrumental in tracking the origins of the conspiracy and determining the potential involvement of additional individuals.

The officer added, “We are planning to approach Parliament to seek permission for recreating the crime scene inside the House and outside the Parliament building. Lalit Jha, who was arrested on Thursday, revealed during the interrogation that he had thrown his phone on the Delhi-Jaipur highway and destroyed the phones of the other accused.”

The accused were booked under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 279 (rash driving on a public way) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.

In a stirring tribute on Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted the brave heroes of the 1971 war, whose sacrifices led to a decisive victory for India. Their unwavering spirit and dedication, he said, are etched in the nation’s history and the hearts of its people.

“Today, on Vijay Diwas, we pay heartfelt tributes to all the brave heroes who dutifully served India in 1971, ensuring a decisive victory. Their valour and dedication remain a source of immense pride for the nation. Their sacrifices and unwavering spirit will forever be etched in the people’s hearts and our nation’s history. India salutes their courage and remembers their indomitable spirit,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a post on ‘X’.

Meanwhile in a post on ‘X’ the Indian Army said, “December 16 marks the Historic Victory of Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan in the India Pakistan War of 1971. On this day, let us salute the courage & fortitude displayed by the Indian Armed Forces.”

Vijay Diwas is celebrated on December 16 to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war. December 16, 1971, was the day when Pakistan signed the instrument of surrender in Dhaka, following a 13-day India-Pakistan War. With the surrender of over 93,000 soldiers, the Pakistan Army’s capitulation against Indian forces was complete.

Following this decisive victory, India announced itself as a major regional force.Pakistan and the creation of Bangladesh was a devastating event for West Pakistan, the aftershocks of which continue to this day.

Along with the physical fall of Dacca, Pakistan was also defeated psychologically. The two-nation theory, that Muslims of the subcontinent formed a nation, was demolished.

Pakistan is still searching for a rationale for the dismemberment. For India, this battle is considered a historical occurrence. Because of this, December 16 is commemorated nationwide as “Vijay Diwas” to honour India’s triumph over Pakistan.

According to reports, 3,900 Indian soldiers are believed to have died and 9,851 have been injured during the Battle of 1971.
