Bhuj: Hairdresser Alfaz Khalifa pulls down the shutter, molests and attempts to rape a married Hindu woman who visited his salon to straighten her hair

An incident of attempted sexual assault on a married Hindu woman was reported in Bhuj, Gujarat. The details of the case came to light on Friday, 19th May 2023 in the afternoon. Alfaz Khalifa, the proprietor of a salon, molested the married woman before making an attempt to rape her. The woman had visited the salon for getting her hair styled.

According to a report by Divya Bhaskar, on Friday, at the Ring Road area of Bhuj, Alfaz Khalifa, the owner of Rockstar Family Salon, allegedly harassed a married Hindu woman. According to the complaint filed with the Gujarat Police, the 21-year-old married woman from Kodki village in Bhuj visited the Rockstar Family Salon on Wednesday, May 17, with her younger brother. The woman intended to get her hair straightened at the salon.

After the married woman’s younger brother dropped her off at the salon, Alfaz began straightening her hair. Later, Alfaz Khalifa requested the woman to return to the salon after two days for the next phase of hair straightening. On Friday, the woman visited Rockstar Family Salon with her cousin sister, who then left for her drawing class. After the cousin sister of the woman left, Khalifa made an attempt to kiss the married woman by placing his hand on her shoulder.

As she voiced her objection, the woman admonished Alfaz mentioning that she is married. However, Alfaz disregarded her concerns and persistently attempted to forcibly engage with her as he closed the shop’s shutter. Despite the woman’s resistance, he insisted on completing the remaining hair-straightening process, assuring her that he would not harm her. As per the woman’s complaint, while she was descending from the upper floor of the salon, Alfaz grabbed her hand and began pressuring her into a sexual relationship. He enticingly offered, “Get along with me, and I’ll take you on a trip to Mumbai.”

According to the victim, Alfaz kept saying during the incident that he was alone in the shop and nobody would come. The woman left the shop and immediately contacted her sister, providing her with all the details. As soon as the police were called, the accused Alfaz fled. A complaint is registered in this regard and the police are looking for the accused Alfaz.

Pakistan: 11 cases filed against former minister Fawad Chaudhry, reports suggest cases include theft of taps, pipes and wires from school

11 criminal cases, including one relating to alleged washroom tap theft, have been registered against Fawad Ahmed Hussain Chaudhry, the former Pakistani federal minister for Information and Broadcasting and senior vice-president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Justice Anwar-ul-Haq Pannu considered the PTI leader’s request for information on the FIRs lodged against him and the Punjab police presented a report on all the cases they had filed against the latter during the hearing.

According to a report by The Express Tribune, Fawad Ahmed Hussain Chaudhry is the subject of case 889/23, which was brought forward at Multan Cantonment Police Station. Muzaffar Hanif is the one who submitted the complaint in the case in which pipes and a tap were stolen from a school. A second accusation against the politician is that he helped steal electrical wire from the Khairpur Bhatta Government Primary School.

Three cases were brought forth by the Multan Cantonment Police, while one each was filed at Jalilabad, Multan and Old Kotwali police stations. In accordance with the reports, Fawad Chaudhry has been proven innocent in one case filed by the Attock New Airport Police, while two further cases filed in Multan and Faisalabad had been dismissed.

He was reportedly the subject of two cases at the Sarwar Road and Race Course Police Stations in Lahore, three cases at the Multan Cantonment, and one case in Jalalpur Pirwala, Multan. He is also facing charges at the police stations in Attock, Jhelum and Faisalabad.

His attorney voiced worry about the filing of politically motivated, bogus lawsuits against him, arguing that the court should learn the specifics of each case and stop harassing the former federal minister. The hearing was postponed until May 22 by Lahore High Court.

However, some reports suggested that Punjab Police Department has denied that Fawad Chaudhry was implicated in a theft and pipe-breaking case. He is not connected to any such crime, according to the police. Multan Police, who claimed that no one had been named in connection with the incident, categorically rejected his involvement.

No t-shirts, jeans, leggings: Assam govt introduces dress code for teachers of state-run schools

The Assam government on Saturday issued a notification bringing a dress code for teachers in all state-run schools in the state, saying that teachers should wear only formal dress in schools. A notification issued by the governor on behalf of the Department of School Education of the state government has asked both male and female teachers not to wear T-shirts, jeans, leggings etc in schools.

The notification said that a teacher is expected to be an example of all sorts of decency especially while discharging their duties, it has become necessary to follow a dress code in the schools.

“It has come to the notice of the undersigned that some teachers of educational institutions are found in the habit of wearing the dress of their choice which sometimes does not appear to be acceptable by the public at large. Since a teacher is expected to be an example of all sorts of decency especially while discharging their duties, it has become necessary to follow a dress code that should reflect a sense of decorum, decency, professionalism and seriousness of purpose at the workplace,” said the notification issued by Narayan Konwar, Secretary of Department of School Education.

The notification said, “In view of the above, the Government in the Department of School Education is hereby pleased to prescribe the following dress code for teachers of all educational institutions.

According to the dress code, male teachers should attend their duties in appropriate formal attire only, which means formal shirt-pant and not casual attire such as T-shirt, jeans etc.

Similarly, “female teachers should attend their duties in decent Salwar Suit/Saree/Mekhela-Chador and not Casual Attire such as T-Shirt, Jeans, Leggings etc,” according to the notification

The department also directed the teachers that both male and female teachers should be dressed up in clean, modest and decent clothes in sober colours, which should not look flashy. “Casual and party apparel should be strictly avoided,” it stated.

The notification further said that the order shall be complied with scrupulously by all concerned and any deviation from this may invite disciplinary action as per rules.

Talking about the initiative, Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu said that the Assam government is going to introduce a school rule book for all government schools which will have broader things about how the school is to be managed, and how the classes are to be conducted.

“This school rule book contains that the teachers should be dressed decently, properly and they should wear formal dress. For the students we have uniforms. So, the teachers should wear formal dress and come to the school,” Dr Ranoj Pegu said.

Earlier in the year 2022, the Assam Assembly Secretariat had issued a similar dress code for the employees. Both male and female personnel were asked to avoid wearing casual clothing while on duty. The employees were also encouraged to wear traditional attire once in a week.

Former US State Department cyber official reveals how America-funded organisations interfere in Indian elections

An audio clipping of a Twitter space discussion recently went viral on social media in which a former officer of the United States cyber department revealed how America-funded organisations interfere in Indian elections. Mike Benz, Executive Director of Foundation For Freedom Online, a former US govt official, made these revelations in a Twitter space discussion hosted by a Twitter handle named Trash Discourse. Mike Benz explained how US States Department was funding various entities in Indian media to create a narrative against Narendra Modi during the 2019 general elections.

Benz was Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Communications and Information Technology in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs under the US Department of State till January 2021, he specialised in international communications and information technology matters.

Mike Benz said at around 3 hours 15 minutes in the space, “When any proxy uses democracy in unified policy establishment, it is used for regime change. For a change in that country’s elected government, principally in order to control various political, media, social, and cultural levels to give more freedom to state departments and intelligence whose influence is limited by state action in that country. I thought of the India thing for a long time. Because I remember very vividly in 2019 when America also was holding conferences about what to do about India and the problem of internet and communications freedom in India because it was leading people to be Modi supporters and Modi was perceived as a populist sort of new non-aligned movement.”

He further said, “The role that India played on the side of the state Department in the national security state during portions of the current war. When you see this right now with the fact Modi is basically non-aligned in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. You have got declarations by the Indian finance minister who has talked about how they are going to continue to buy Russian oil and gas. There is the purchasing of arms and other equipment. India plays a very very important role with respect to America’s foreign policy because of China.”

Mike Benz added, “India loses very largely to Modi’s nationalist proclamations sometimes making it an unstable and adversarial piece on the state department chessboard. They want somebody there who is like a Trudeau who is like Angelina Berboc in Germany essentially. She controls the foreign ministry in Germany and she was the one who on day one after being put in her office did this. She is from the Green Party. They are using this pretext to shut down the north stream pipeline on regular grounds over basically climate-type pretext and not having the gas coming through there. She is the perfect photocopy replica of the picture-perfect state of the Western interest.”

Mike Benz also said, “I support Western interests but there are dirty tricks. And what they are doing with Modi is dirty tricks. We have lived through three years of high-intensity Russian gates over a hundred thousand dollars are paid for gas. And we have got probably thirty million dollars at least that have flowed from the state departments to do the same thing in India somewhat explicitly. Because this is all done through the global engagement standards and USAID and funding of different pop-ups censorship mercenary groups that we send over there under the guise of fact-checking, digital resilience groups, or media literacy groups. They are censorship mercenaries who put pressure on Indian civil society and communications platforms in order to stop the ability of Modi supporters from accessing other party mines.”

In the same space, US-based cyber criminologist Laura Love lauded Indians and especially Hindu nationalists active on the internet for early identifying that the pandemic was a part of Chinese weapons and propaganda. This Twitter space discussion was held on 3rd March 2023. The clipping of the space has now gone viral on social media. Mike Benz’s remarks exposed how the US state department was trying to destabilise India by affecting the 2019 general elections as it funded certain sections of media to run an anti-Modi narrative.

This is not the first time Mike Benz has talked about American organisations working against the Modi government. In an interview with the Sunday Guardian earlier this year, he had said that biased elements in the US foreign policy establishment waged a campaign against PM Narendra Modi and the BJP ahead of the 2019 general elections in India. He had said that these elements in the US administration, social media giants, think tanks and state department officials were working together to paint PM Modi’s electoral success as the result of a “misinformation campaign”.

He had explained that labelling something as ‘misinformation’ in a foreign country is a signal to the social media platforms to impose censorship. he had said- “Misinformation” is a censorship predicate. When the US foreign policy establishment says a foreign country has a “misinformation crisis,” that is a cue to US tech companies to work with entities like the State Department’s Global Engagement Center or cut-out think tanks like the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensics Research Lab or counter-misinformation USAID fundees to censor the “misinformation” in that foreign country.

Mike Benz had added that they censored chat apps like WhatsApp to limit the spread of Pro-Modi messages.

Honeytrap Hindus to convert to Islam and join ISIS: All about Deepthi Marlah alias Maryam, the kin of a deceased Congress MLA

Last year in January, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Deepthi Marlah alias Maryam for alleged links to the terrorist organization ISIS. Marlah, a native of Kodagu in Karnataka, is the wife of Anas Abdul Rahiman, the son of B M Basha whose father Idinabba was once a Congress MLA. Idinabba died in 2009.

The NIA officials had carried out investigations about Maryam on the suspicion that she was involved in a racket to recruit youths to the ISIS network.

It is noteworthy that NIA raided the same house in August 2021 and arrested Ammar, cousin of Anas Abdul Rahiman, for his alleged ISIS links. NIA interrogated Maryam at that time but did not detain her. Reports suggested that in those five months, the security agency gathered enough evidence against her to initiate an arrest for suspected ISIS links.

The arrests, the NIA said, were made in connection with a case of IS recruitment and propaganda it had registered in March 2021.

Deepthi Marlah, a dental doctor by profession, was a Hindu before she got married to Basha. She got ‘attracted’ to Islam when she studied in the UAE. Later, she fell in love with Anas while studying BDS at a college in Deralakatte in Mangalore. She converted to Islam and married Anas. She changed her name to Maryam

Deepti Marlah alias Maryam lured Hindus through honeytrap with the sole intention of converting them to Islam and then make them join ISIS.

During her interrogation by NIA sleuths, Deepthi Marlah alias Maryam revealed that she used to entice Hindu youths through honeytraps, converted them to Islam and tried and recruit them into ISIS. She confessed to converting more than 10 Hindu youths to Islam throughout the state of Karnataka.

Maryam had created more than 15 identities on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Telegram using Hindu and Muslim names.

She used to handle the Instagram Page Chronicle Foundation for ISIS at the instigation of her husband.

Maryam used to lure youths through sexually provocative chats. She reportedly made video calls to Hindu youths after getting acquainted with them. Her sexually provocative conversations used to entice young men and make them fall in love with her. She then promises to get married to them. Once they completely fell into her trap, she use to coerce them to convert to Islam and join ISIS.

If her potential target was a Muslim youth, she used to play the drama of love and provoke them to join ISIS.

The NIA said that due to Maryam’s enticement, four to five youths left for Syria from Kerala in 2020 and 2021. Madesh Perumal alias Abdul, who was arrested in Bengaluru five months before her arrest, had also fallen into the trap of Maryam and had converted to Islam. Madesh Perumal had reportedly promised the handlers of the terrorist organization to carry out bombings in the country. The agency informed that Maryam has spent Rs 10 lakhs to entice Madesh Perumal.

Besides having links with ISIS, the NIA had also revealed that Deepthi Marlah alias Maryam had connections with the terrorist outfit in Jammu and Kashmir.

As per an Indian Express report, NIA said, “During the investigation, it has been revealed that after the decline of ISIS Caliphate in Syria/Iraq, Deepthi Marlah and Mohd. Ameen visited Kashmir in January and March 2020 for Hijrah (religious migration) and for engaging in terrorist acts and supporting the activities of ISIS. The investigation has also revealed that Deepthi Marlah was the kingpin of the instant ISIS conspiracy along with Mohd Ameen.”

Mohd Ameen alias Abu Yahya and two associates, Dr Rahees Rasheed and Mus’Hab Anwar were also among those arrested by NIA in connection to the case registered in March 2021.

Following Deepthi Marlah alias Maryam’s arrest, her parents reportedly disowned her through a newspaper advertisement.

31 years ago in May 1992, All India Radio officer ML Manchanda was kidnapped and then beheaded by Khalistani terrorists

Khalistani terrorists played havoc in Punjab during the 1980s and early 1990s demanding a separate state for Sikhs. The violent movement took thousands of lives including then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. On 18th May, it marked 31 years to the kidnapping of ML Manchanda – an All India Radio employee – by Khalistani terrorists. He was subsequently killed in captivity and his body was found on 27 May 1992.

ML Manchanda was the director of the All India Radio station in Patiala, Punjab. As the chief engineer of the station, he was one of the responsible decision-makers for the broadcast of various programs from the radio station. Khalistani terrorists demanded that no Hindi show should be run from the radio station in Punjab. They demanded that the media adhere to a code of conduct, which included broadcasting in the local language of Punjabi rather than Hindi.

To impose this demand, the Babbar Khalsa group abducted ML Manchanda who was then the director of All India Radio’s Patiala station on 18th May 1992. The terrorists continued their demand and did not agree to release Manchanda until the demand gets fulfilled.

The kidnappers threatened to send one arm of Manchanda to the Tribune office and another to the office of Punjabi newspaper Ajit. The government of India did not agree to the demand of the terrorists. Thus, these terrorists killed ML Manchanda. Gurdial Singh Babbar, Amrik Singh Kauli, and other radical Khalistanis of the Kauli group were involved in this. Manchanda was survived by his wife and three daughters.

ML Manchanda was first shot dead and later beheaded. His beheaded dead body was left near Rajpura in the Patiala district of Punjab while his severed head was left in a busy traffic intersection in Ambala – a town in Haryana situated close to the Punjab border. His body was identified by the OM tattoo on his hand that was seen on the torso.

The head was stitched up with the torso at Rajpura Mortuary, and the body was handed over to the family after an autopsy.

ML Manchanda’s gruesome murder was followed by a strike by the journalists, artists, technicians, and other staff members of the All India Radio and Doordarshan. The strike spread across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir. The strike lasted for a few days during which the employees demanded insurance and protection from the government. The family of the slain AIR employee was given ex gratia financial help by the government.

The kidnapping and murder of ML Manchanda was not the only case in which government employees were targeted by the Khalistani terrorist. there were many other cases in Punjab in which the Khalistani terrorists killed government servants for not complying with their various demands. Just like Machanda, R.K Talib, Director of AIR Chandigarh was killed in 1990 for not following the Khalistani “Code of Conduct”.

Presently, the Khalistani movement in Punjab has started to relocate its roots as organisations like ‘Waris Punjab De’ caused a law and order situation in the state in the recent past. Amritpal Singh of this organisation who mobilised thousands of Khalistan supporters in the state was on the radar of the law enforcement agencies. He was on the run for a few weeks before he surrendered.

The problem has escalated especially after Aam Aadmi Party won the state assembly election in 2022 and Bhagwant Mann became the chief minister of the border state. It is notable that as the murder of the AIR station director completes 31 years, no populist flagbearer of the freedom of the press has dared to call out the Khalistani terrorism that prevails in parts of India and abroad.

Rajasthan: Punjab AAP leader Deep Kamboj booked for rape

A woman was reportedly raped on Friday, May 19 in the Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan by Kuldeep Kumar, alias Deep Kamboj Malukpura, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader from Punjab, along with three of his relatives, Vijay Kamboj, Aman Kamboj, and Smile Kamboj. Rajasthan Police have booked all four accused following a complaint by the victim.

Deep Kamboj had lost to Sandeep Jakhar of Congress from the Abohar assembly constituency during the last assembly elections in Punjab.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 376(2)(n) (repeatedly raping the same woman), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent), 506 (criminal intimidation), 354(g) (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).

The woman has also made a complaint to the Fazilka police station in Punjab, and Deep Kamboj has responded by making a counter-complaint to Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Avneet Kaur Sidhu, claiming that the former was a mastermind behind honeytraps who extorted money from several individuals. According to Fazilka police, they are looking into the allegations made by both parties.

In her complaint in Sri Ganganagar, the victim woman alleged that on December 14, 2022, she visited the politician at the party headquarters in Abohar to request his help with a fictitious case that had been filed against her and her family.

Kamboj asked her to accompany him in his vehicle so that he can understand the case. He then took her to a motel in Sri Ganganagar where he sexually assaulted her. Based on the complaint, when she resisted, he warned her of dire consequences.

The alleged victim said that ten days ago, Kamboj brought her back to his office in Abohar together with the other perpetrators and threatened to broadcast her offensive pictures and videos on social media.

The woman underwent medical testing on May 16 and discovered she was pregnant. She brought up the matter with Deep Kamboj, and he allegedly called her to Abohar.

She further added that she met the offender and his associates but they gave her a cold drink that was spiked with medication, resulting in a miscarriage without her consent.

When contacted, Deep Kamboj Malukpura refuted all the charges. “The woman is a honeytrap mastermind and the truth will come out soon. Lives of many brothers had been ruined by this woman but now I will not let anyone fall victim to it,” he accused. He did admit, though, that he had been in touch with the female for a while.

The Non Practicing Hindu

If you let people walk all over you, they will walk all over you

I am sure the title of this piece will not surprise many of us in fact any of us.

There is an oft-debated, criticized point – socially, spiritually and now politically- that why Hindus are not united like other religions?

There are several reasons for this situation, and let us see what is lacking and what can be done.

We are not confused as people may think, but we are very clear in our minds- we stand for ourselves and our family alone. ‘We have become indifferent’ too. Because no one told us otherwise. This has happened over a long period- Over the democratization of faith.

We hide our weakness taking shelter under lofty ideas like ‘Vasudev Kutumbhkam’ or the world is one family or we being the most tolerant people God has created. We do not want to hurt anyone not even sentimentally. We are God’s only creation-we think. We are ready to kiss a snake, a demon or a horse with equal serenity. How great!

In that sense, we all are ‘statesmen’ always on the right side of right which we ourselves don’t know whether it is right or not. At least we want to show that to everyone.

We have been told by our elders – be tolerant and let anyone walk over you. Which god will tell us this? This is a self-inflicted scar. And we are ready to carry that as a cross on our backs forever.

One of Murphy’s laws is ‘Any problem can be made very complicated, if there are enough number of discussions on it’. How right this statement which fits us to a Tee.

Competitive religion-ism

Other religions and their ‘Gurus’ make it a point to tell their people that they have a religion which has certain bindings, certain rules, laws and strictures which are non-negotiable. They point to one super power and call it out as their God their savior. Period. No ifs and no buts.

We on the other hand say it is a religion but it is not a religion- it is a way of life. Obviously this is confusing. Statement itself is a bit mystic, seemingly paradoxical, especially in today’s age where people want things in binary and crystal clear. Why a common Hindu need some highly qualified Pundit to understand basics of good living as a Hindu? That is why so many gurus to teach us about God- my God. Gurus flourish –neither god nor us!

For instance, Sadhguru says ‘The term and concept of Hinduism was coined only in recent times. Otherwise, there was really no such thing. The word “Hindu” essentially comes from the word Sindhu. Anyone who is born in the land of Sindhu is a Hindu. It is a cultural and geographic identity. It is like saying “I am an Indian” but it is a more ancient identity than being an Indian. “Indian” is only about seventy years old, but this is an identity that we have always lived with.

Being a Hindu does not mean having a particular belief system. Basically, the whole culture was oriented towards realizing one’s full potential. Whatever you did in this culture was Hindu. There is no particular god or ideology that you can call as the Hindu way of life. You can be a Hindu irrespective of whether you worship a man-god or a woman-god, whether you worship a cow or a tree. If you don’t worship anything you can still be a Hindu.”

Such scattered diverse idea can confuse than clarify.

So what does one make out of this discourse? More confusion?

Is it a gospel, a creed, a cult, philosophy, ideology or a sect? These are all the synonyms of the word religion. Or we feel Hinduism is none of it. Some confuse it further by saying it is not an ‘ism’ then for God’s sake what is it?

Hindus can choose to be polytheistic, pantheistic, henotheistic, monotheistic, monistic, agnostic, atheistic or humanist. In India which has maximum number of Hindus in the world, the term dharma is also interchangeably used with religion, which is broader than the Western term religion. When you say Raj dharma it means duty of a ruler. Parmo Dharma means ultimate or supreme duty. Therefore Dharma implies being duty bound.

These are high and lofty ideas which may not hit the bulls eye with the generation gasping constantly running on day today basis with little time at hand for household chores, for fitness or family. While others are absolutely clear.

Looking at it another way in its entirety it is too big and too liberal. It is too democratic in its very essence and that could be its strength. It is Omni interpretable or multi interpretable. Or being too liberal could be its weakness too. If you have no strict rules you have no binding. When you do something religiously it implies, you do it regularly.

With such an open ended idea of belief, how do you get people on the same page- as there is no one book or no one page.

For Christians Bible is a Holy Manual. That is why people call any wholesome all-encompassing guide for a topic as a Bible. You say ‘This book authored by XYZ author is a Bible for Marketing’. This implies that there is nothing more to it; one book is all that you need. If you have any doubt about marketing, you go back to that book. If it is the Bible for marketing then that is the ultimate and final authority on marketing. That is how it is perceived. There may be thousand other books but one is sufficient and all others are as reference books.

Deriving a logical inference I would assume that a religion needs to be presented in a well-defined boundary through one book carrying all major tenets of that religions philosophy as its  essence and also needs to be practiced religiously with certain regularity.

Hinduism also has hundreds of deities to choose from.

Saab Chalta hai

It is like making an eight-lane highways to your destination- in this case all mighty – but no rules. You can drive left right or center. Overtake, over speed or stop your car in the middle of the highway to have your lunch! Bravo.

How do you keep things in order? You can’t say ‘my way on the high way’- to my god. This is a sure short cut to death and reach your god and send others too!

Weakness of Hindu religion is that it is very vast, very liberal, spread over huge number of scriptures and hence difficult to interpret for a common man. You need a guru or a priest to understand it- even a fraction of it. This can be a deterrent for people to practice it rigorously. Therefore most Hindus get into devotional obligation after they have finished their responsibility- almost retired. For a modern day Hindu youth it appears too complicated and you can’t make every living Hindu a monk or a saint.

Religion is a Sense of discipline

There is an oft-quoted expression ‘I do so and so thing religiously’. Say ‘I go for my work out with friends religiously- that means religion connotes a sense of regimentation and discipline. Then why pretend otherwise?

One simple way to understand why religions came into existence is -religion gives us purpose in life.

One possible explanation has to do with the way religion tends to act like social glue, drawing the faithful into likeminded communities. People often find social support and a sense of belonging within such communities, which can be a powerful source of perceived meaning in life.

There has to be a list of strict ‘Do’s and Don’ts. Religions are bound by a solid glue called ‘commandments’.

Unless you do this instead of free for all, there is no cohesiveness. These glorious good things were fine in glorious times when people did have values and lived by their values in a gigantic invisible ’bubble’ called a way of life which is religion. But no more as others have well defined lines, clear-cut ideas, and clear commandments. God may be intangible but you need some kind of a roadmap for a common mortal. Else how do you feel a person will follow you?

Then we bring salvation into it.

Salvation is preservation. It means and aims to conserve, defend, protect, safeguard, save, secure, store, sustain, uphold, cure, guard. Man is looking for this- man needs support. When reason fails faith begins.

For preservation there has to be a sense of collectivism. A sense of belonging and that sense of being together. How can that become possible if it is ‘free for all’?

Harvard-ization of Hinduism!

Today people other than Hindus or Hindus who lean towards left or the western culture are taking a pot shot at Hinduism. They go abroad and take refuge in lofty universities like Harvard and criticize us- they are there to tell us that Hinduism is no good. They mostly talk about caste system as a negative stance of Hinduism.

We have let the others take a pot shot at us.

Hindu Dharma is the quintessence of our national life, hold fast to it if you want your country to survive, or else you would be wiped out in three generations”. – Swami Vivekanand

What can be done to unite the religion?

After Independence a lot of balancing act has happened because of serious and sincere efforts to provide a level playing field across the Hindu masses. This was legislated.

We need a UHC- Uniform Hindu Code.

Create a citizens forum in every small city- like a Rotary movement. Let it go down to every small village- we have 6 lakh plus villages. Caste creed no bar, everyone to be encouraged to come and treated equally. This is a bottom up approach.

Organize weekly prayers in Mandirs- only one day a mass gathering- like Christians do on Sunday so do Sikhs. After that a simple to understand discourse with a take away ‘no big gyan’.

Two things can be done over and above the caste neutralization.

1. Simplify

  1. Simplifying the construct and making it more accessible to all Hindus. Why don’t many Hindus read their holy books like Vedas, Upanishads, and Gita? When asked about their religion, most of the Hindus cannot give a straight answer or give varying answers. Why do we need great scholars/religious teachers to understand what we all need to follow? We need one book as a primer for all. It needs to put the entire essence of all our holy scriptures and tell us what to do and what not to do. Other religions go by their one holy book. That is their strength.
  • 2. Religion is about symbolism too.

Every religion has a marker in terms of caps, beards, what you wear and some symbol/symbols to go by. For instance Christians have a cross.

  • Of late Hindu women have started donning a ‘Bindi’ with pride. And have started asserting this in no uncertain terms. This is true women power. But that is half the total number of Hindus. And where are the men?
  • Can they also don something to demonstrate that they belong to a ‘way of life’- if it helps. Like a cross. Om is a central thread and it is a sound and a symbol- possibly sacred to all. Hindus. Yes this is unique- may be undisputable pillar of a united religion.

Rotary- a case in point

Rotary members believe that they have a shared responsibility to take action on world’s most persistent issues. Our 46,000+ clubs work together to promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, save mothers and children, support education, grow local economies, protect the environment.

Don’t religions do much more than this?

We need cardinal principles in some form or the other.

Cardinal principles

  • We have one cardinal principle which all Hindus follow. Hindus don’t eat beef.
  • We tie a thread on our wrist- (A pratisara or kautuka) a sacred thread- we must encourage this.
  • Can we have few more like this- for instance your color is gerua or (saffron) tie a small cloth on your steering wheel. When Christians wear a Cross they demonstrate loyalty and sense of community.
  • Some more should be dug out and propagated.
  • Sabka saath sabka mangal ho.
  • Other symbols like Shiv Ling, Swastika or Lotus or Cow should continue along side. No restriction here.
  • We cannot allow people or organizations or business houses Indian or Foreign or even Bollywood or Hollywood to walk all over us. One needs a strict code of conduct to handle this.

For all these reasons, below statement becomes a testament.

“hindu ko jagana mushkil he nahi hai- namumkin hai’
