IOA President PT Usha criticises wrestlers for protesting on the streets

0

The president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), PT Usha, remarked on Thursday, 27th April 2023, that the protests by the wrestlers on the streets amount to indiscipline and are damaging the nation’s reputation. Indian wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik, are protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Wrestlers have accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation.

PT Usha said, “Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is having a committee for sexual harassment, instead of going to the streets they (protesting wrestlers) could have come to us earlier but they didn’t come to IOA. It isn’t good for Sports not only for wrestlers, they should also have some discipline”

The IOA also established a three-person ad hoc panel, comprised of former shooter Suma Shirur, Bhupendra Singh Bajwa, and a yet-to-be-named retired high court judge, to manage the WFI’s operations until a new body is elected.

After the protest first began in January, the IOA and the government were able to pacify the wrestlers by promising to look into their claims against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and the WFI.

On the other hand, wrestler Bajrang Punia, on Thursday, refuted Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur’s assertion that he engaged with the protesting wrestlers for 12 hours to settle their issues.

Bajrang Punia said, “The sports minister is saying that he spoke to the players for 12 hours. Once ask the Sports Minister for how long you were sitting among the players. He sat for 2-4 minutes with the players. His officials were mediating with the players.”

Vinesh Phogat, a wrestler and one of the three main protesters against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, claimed that at the meetings that were held to find a solution, the wrestlers were occasionally even intimidated.

Earlier in the day Anurag Thakur held a press conference in Shimla where he spoke about the issue. In addition to reiterating its commitment to an “impartial probe” into the allegations against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, he said that the government provided all of the protesting wrestlers the opportunity to state their cases before the monitoring committee.

He said, “A few wrestlers are sitting in protest at Jantar Mantar. I have spent 12 hours with them — seven hours on the first day and five hours the next day (in January). I had listened to all their grievances, held a press conference at 2-2.30 at night, and formed a committee after talking to them.”

He added, “They had asked to add a member and gave Babita Phogat’s name, and we added her to the committee. There is nothing in our mind, we wanted an impartial probe.”

Uttar Pradesh: Case registered against 1700 Muslims for offering Eid namaz on the streets

In Kanpur, FIRs have been lodged against 1700 Muslims in three police stations for offering Eid namaz on the road. Police said that despite the ban on offering namaz on the streets, it was offered on the road outside Jajmau, Babupurwa, and Badi Idgah Benazhabar on April 22. FIRs have been lodged against 200 to 300 worshippers in Jajmau, 40 to 50 in Babupurwa, and 1500 in Bajaria. Those booked include members of the Idgah Committee.

Begumpurwa outpost in-charge Brijesh Kumar said, “A peace committee meeting was held before Eid. In this, the people of the area were told that namaz will not be offered on the road. Eid prayers will be offered only inside Idgahs and mosques. It was also said that if a Muslim misses namaz due to the crowd, then alternative arrangements will be made by the police.”

On April 22, just before the prayers began at the Idgah on the day of Eid, a crowd of thousands suddenly gathered on the road in front of the Idgah. Despite the ban, everyone started praying on the road. The police tried to stop them, but they did not obey the instructions by the police.

On the complaint of the outpost in charge, the police have registered an FIR against the members of the Idgah Committee and those who offered namaz there. CCTV footage is being used to identify those who offered namaz on the road.

Babupurwa police have registered a case against the worshippers under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in public duty), 188 (obstructing crowd in violation of section 144), 283 (obstructing a crowd by blocking the road), 341 (wrongful restraint) and obstructing public service and section 353.

An FIR was also lodged at Bajaria police station against 1,500 people, including the Idgah Committee and its members, for offering namaz on the road despite the ban. “Even after the police personnel refused, people sat on the road and offered namaz, leading to traffic jams”, said the FIR.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has reacted over the FIR. A board member Mohammed Suleman said, “A particular community is being targeted. It seems that the nation belongs to only one religion. Prayers were held inside the campus of mosques and Idgahs. There is no such big Idgah in Babupurwa. If people get no space for 10 minutes, they pray on the road. Similarly, prayers were held on the road in Babupurwa, but the station in charge of Babupurwa lodged an FIR.”

He added, “Unfortunately, the trial is not for offering namaz on the street, but for obstructing public service, which is a serious offense and the second is under the Epidemic Act. This is the mindset of our government on which such enthusiastic policemen are working. This is condemnable, and not good for society.”

Mohammed Suleman further said, “Our society is governed by the Constitution. Article 19 of the Constitution protects the religious beliefs and cultural things of all communities, but this government is not running on the Constitution. Yogi’s government is flouting the Constitution.”

He also said, “The government is doing such things that people are being killed in police custody. The police watched silently. They didn’t shoot at the killers, all this is happening. In Farrukhabad, people offered namaz on the platform, so where did the unrest spread? The public did nothing, the police did. In Moradabad, an FIR was lodged for offering prayers on the roof.”

Customs held a Tanzanian passenger for carrying narcotics dissolved in whiskey bottles

0

A Tanzanian nationality passenger was arrested by Indira Gandhi International Airport customs for allegedly carrying three Whiskey bottles with dissolved narcotics substances, said a statement by customs.

Based on profiling by IGIA Customs/DRI, a Tanzanian nationality passenger who arrived from Addis Ababa was followed from the deboarding gate, added the statement. As soon as the passenger took to the Green Channel, Customs/DRI officers intercepted him inter-alia asking whether he was carrying any narcotic substances. Upon searching his baggage, three whiskey bottles were found.

The liquid inside the bottles was unusually viscous, unlike whiskey. Upon opening the bottles and subjecting them to a test kit, the presence of cocaine was indicated.

This is a new modus operandi to smuggle narcotics dissolved in alcohol, probably since alcohol evaporates in the open, the dissolved substance (cocaine in this case) could be recovered easily.

Further investigations are underway.

Mumbai: BEST prohibits loud phone conversations, audio and video on mobile phones on the buses, mandates use of headphones

0

On Thursday, 27th April 2027, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) prohibited people from loud phone conversations on the buses operating in the city and the suburbs. The BEST also prohibited commuters from playing audio and videos on their mobile phones at a loud volume while travelling in the buses. The BEST issued this order after numerous complaints regarding this issue were frequently raised by the passengers.

While speaking to the media, a spokesperson for the public transport agency said that the decision has been taken by the city civic transport body to avoid inconvenience to co-passengers. He added that acting on the frequency of complaints from passengers, the BEST undertaking took this decision and issued a notification on April 24.

According to the new rule, all passengers using BEST buses, the city’s public transportation system, must put on headphones when watching videos, listening to audio or having conversions on their mobile devices.

The spokesperson further said that BEST’s buses are public service vehicles and hence, to avoid any kind of inconvenience or trouble caused by anyone to co-passengers, action can be taken under the Bombay Police Act’s section 38/112. The department concerned has been asked to display the notification on all the buses.

The spokesperson also informed that all staffers working on the BEST buses, including those of the wet-leased vehicles hired from private companies, will be made aware of this new regulation.

It is notable that the BEST, which has a fleet of nearly 3,400 buses, provides public transport services in Mumbai and neighbouring Thane, Navi Mumbai and Mira-Bhayander cities. More than 30 lakh passengers travel every day on the BEST buses.

Israeli Ambassador to India Naor Gilon gives befitting reply to a Pakistani woman who called India and Israel ‘terrorist countries’

Naor Gilon, Israel’s ambassador to India, recently encountered a female Pakistani troll by the name of Saira Ramzan who had called India and Israel terrorist countries. However, Gilon countered that claim by thanking the Pakistan woman for reminding that India and Israel are natural allies. Saira Ramzan had written on 26 April, “Both Israel and India are terrorist countries, if these two countries are erased from the map of the world, the whole world will be at peace.”

Naor Gilon used the opportunity to call out her venomous mindset as well as point out the profound connection between India and Israel. He thanked her (mockingly) and stated that the two countries were already natural allies and didn’t require any reminders.

Zafar Sahito, the founder and central chief organizer of the Jeay Sindh Freedom Movement, commented that not India or Israel but Pakistan is the actual issue. He referred to the country as the “King Of Terrorism” in a subsequent tweet.

The Sindhi leader questioned Pakistan on its ugly track record of harbouring and hiding terrorists like Osama bin Laden, Hafiz Saeed, Masood Azhar and Dawood Ibrahim. He brought up the ties between Jamaat-e-Islami (Pakistan), ISIS and the Taliban and their role in recruiting terrorists for India and Bangladesh.

One user implied that the Pakistani is jealous by remarking, “Jealousy has no medicine.”

Vikram Pratap Singh mentioned that the destruction of India and Israel is their ultimate objective in which they will never succeed.

A netizen asserted that they are jealous because they don’t have any friends while another asked, “What happened to the Ummah (the collective community of Islamic people or countries)?”

A Twitter user opined that such people are “bringing all righteous forces together and strengthen at nation levels.” He also highlighted that unity between countries like India and Isreal is required to tackle severe threats of terrorism and ensure peaceful coexistence.

Sanghi from Downtown posted a long list of terrorists and terror organisations, particularly based in Pakistan and asked Saira Ramzan to find India or Israel on it.

A netizen posted a meme featuring Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan Niazi and noted that Pakistanis drive small pleasures from trolling others otherwise they live sad lives.

Israel celebrated its 75th Independence Day on 26 April. Prime Minister Modi congratulated the Jewish nation on the significant occasion.

President Droupadi Murmu wished her Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog on behalf of the government and the people of India.

External Affairs Minister of India Dr S. Jaishankar extended warm greetings for the “momentous milestone of the 75th anniversary of Independence” to Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Eli Cohen, the Government and all Israelis.

Notably, Pakistani and other Islamic radicals have always had Israel and India as their targets, and they never hesitate to express their malign intentions.

Why do some, including Rahul Gandhi, not like the Vande Bharat Express: Here is what Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said

The Vande Bharat Express trains have become a major success story of the Atmairbhar Bharat initiative. With 16 Vande Bharat Express trains running and many to be inaugurated in the coming days, the new trains have become a popular mode of transport among travellers. But at the same time, the trains have been the target of the opposition who criticised it in different ways on various occasions. The Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw gave a befitting reply to such politically motivated critics while speaking at the Republic Summit on 26th April 2023.

Ashwini Vaishnaw was interviewed by Arnab Goswami at the Republic Summit. Arnab Goswami asked the union railway minister about the politically motivated criticism of the Vande Bharat Express. Answering this question, Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “There is a political discourse around it. There is a large section of the political establishment that doesn’t like Vande Bharat Express. Why don’t they like it? Because, for forty, fifty, and sixty years, that political class continuously gave trains which were of 1940s design, 1950s design, and 1960s design. They never upgraded when the world was going at a rapid pace far ahead. They kept India in a very dark situation where their only thought process was to give some crumbs and keep milking this entire population as a vote bank.”

Ashwini Vaishnaw further said, “Our Prime Minister fundamentally changed that entire thought process and political discourse. He says that we have to empower our people. Look at the children who are travelling on these trains. Look at the young people who are travelling on these trains. Look at their videos. Go to YouTube. Yesterday, one person from Kottayam who has about two and a half million followers on YouTube posted a video. Listen to what he says. He says, ‘I have travelled all over the world and I always used to dream when a train like Germany, a train like what we see in Switzerland will come to India.’ And today – that person says, I don’t remember the exact name of his channel – he says ‘Today I am so happy that India has got a world-class train’.”

Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “I will tell you why it is world-class on every parameter. Acceleration – 0 to 100 kilometres per hour – this Vande Bharat train does it in 52 seconds while a bullet train takes 24 seconds for it. Any Swiss, German, or other train does it in 58 to 60 seconds. The ride index – despite whatever the condition of our tracks today and we are continuously upgrading them – you keep a glass of water in Vande Bharat and the water will not spill. You try doing that on other trains in Germany – I tried doing that from Davos to Zurich – the glass shakes. Very different. The noise level inside the train – compared to an aeroplane and the noise level within an aircraft – is measured, and we get 100 times less noise inside the Vande Bharat train. It’s not something that is a political narrative. It’s basically meeting people’s aspirations.”

Ashwini Vaishnaw added, “If something catches people’s imagination, that kind of phenomenon cannot be created. It happens naturally. Today’s India is aspirational India. Today’s youth are no longer happy with small little crumbs. Today’s youth wants the best in the world. We have to give them. As a political class, it is our duty. And that is the fundamental change in the mindset that Prime Minister Modi Ji has brought about. The Congress’ mindset was to keep giving crumbs, to keep giving small little incremental things. Modi Ji’s mindset is to make step changes, to make quantum changes in what we are delivering.”

The Railway minister also revealed the future plans for the Vande Bharat Express trains. He said that the trains will have three separate formats, chair car, Vande metro format, and Vande sleeper format. At present, Vande Bharat Express coaches have only chair car format in two classes, CC Chair (Economy) and Executive Chair (Premium).

Ashwini Vaishnaw said that Vande Metro will be used for short distances, to connect places within a distance of 200 km. These trains will be used to run shuttle services between two nearby cities. For distances up to 500-600 km, the chair car format Vande Bharat train will be used. And for distances beyond 600 km, the sleeper version will be used.

AAP reacts following Kejriwal’s Sheesh Mahal controversy in which Rs 1.45 cr were spent just on toilets, will protest against PM Modi for wasting public money

Further details about the ‘renovation’ of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Civil Lines road in Delhi have emerged that reveal that the AAP supremo, who has time and again diligently portrayed himself as a common man, has spent Rs 1.45 crore just on the toilets. The report by Times Now stated that around 15 toilets have been constructed in Kejriwal’s house and each of these bathrooms has cost Rs 15 lakhs.

Meanwhile, sanitary installations in these bathrooms cost Rs 10.78 lakhs, while the special shower tools in the house cost Rs 91 lakhs. 12 glass shower closures separately cost Rs 3.61 lakh and a hot water generator cost Rs 25 lakh. As per Times Now media reports, the toilets installed in the Delhi CM’s house are high-tech and can be operated with remote controls at convenience.

The renovation work undertaken at the Delhi CM’s home has been criticised by the BJP. The opposition party in Delhi stated that when Delhi was struggling with Covid, CM of Delhi was spending crores on getting his house renovated. The BJP also demanded Delhi CM’s resignation over this issue. Interestingly, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) responded to the criticism and has slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi instead for allegedly wasting the taxpayer’s money.

AAP spokesperson Raghav Chadha, on April 27, said that the party would stage massive protests against the BJP-led Central Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ‘squandering’ public money. “The prices of milk, petrol, diesel, CNG gas, cooking gas, and what not have skyrocketed since the BJP has come to power. PM Modi has built a new palace worth Rs 1300 crores, he has bought a ship worth Rs 8400 crores, he does foreign tours costing Rs 1500 crores, beautified his home for Rs 90 crores, and also spent Rs 56 crores for decoration at Yoga event,” he said.

He also added that the party condemns ‘wastage’ of taxpayers money by PM Modi and that it would launch massive protest agaisnt whom he referred to as the ‘uneducated king’.

Earlier it was reported that the Delhi CM’s residence was approximately renovated for Rs 44.78 crores, out of which more than Rs 1 crore was sanctioned to buy only the curtains. Kejriwal is said to have selected a curtain design costing Rs 7,94,000 per piece for his residence and had ordered 23 such curtain pieces. He also ordered ‘Deor Pearl Marble’, known for its superior quality for Rs 3.30 crores. The said amount was used to buy the marble and polish it. Additionally, Rs 21,60,000 was spent on the chemical adhesive used to fix the marble.

Further, the Chief Minister ordered 6 hand-crafted wool carpets for a total of Rs 20 lakhs. Rs 63 lakhs were spent on renovating two kitchens and Rs 4 crores were spent on wall paneling. Additionally, another Rs 40 lakhs were spent on redoing the wardrobes and dressers in his room, his parents, and also the bedrooms of his two children.

Now, it has also come to the fore that the Delhi CM spent an additional Rs 1 lakh each for 24 decorated pillars installed in his house. Further, he is also said to have spent Rs 88 lakhs for smart lighting along with Rs 2.16 crores for artistic, and ornamental work and Rs 41 lakhs for superior wooden doors and automatic sliding glass doors.

It is worth noting that last year, the Delhi CM also used several crores of taxpayer’s money to construct a swimming pool inside his residence. It was also said that Kejriwal had got the pool modeled as per the standards of luxury Maldives hotels.

The BJP took cognisance of the renovation and stated that when Delhi was struggling with Covid, the CM of Delhi was spending crores on getting his house renovated. Calling Kejriwal a ‘luxurious king’ and demanding his resignation, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Ramvir Bidhuri added, “In 2013, he used to say he will neither take a house, security or official vehicle. But he ended up spending Rs 45 crore on the renovation of his house.”

The AAP defended the expenditure and released a statement claiming that the amount spent on renovation had to be seen in the context of the amount spent by other governments on similar projects. “The estimate for the new Prime Minister’s sprawling house alone is Rs 467 crore, while the actual cost of the Central Vista project is estimated to be Rs 20,000 crore. Further, the renovation cost of the PM’s 7 RCR residence was three times the estimate. Just renovation was carried out at a whopping Rs 89 crore against an estimated cost of Rs 27 crore,” the party had said in its statement.

Operation Kaveri: Second batch of 246 Indians evacuated from Sudan lands in Mumbai from Jeddah, fresh batch of 297 Indians reach Jeddah

The Indian Air Force’s C-17 Globemaster heavy lift aircraft has brought back 246 Indians from the port city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia after they were evacuated from conflict-torn Sudan’s Khartoum region. On Wednesday, the first batch of 360 Indians was airlifted from Jeddah to Delhi, and the second batch of 246 Indians landed in Mumbai.

Earlier today, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan informed that 246 Indians travelling by IAF’s C17 Globemaster will be arriving in Mumbai soon. He had tweeted after seeing of the Indians at Jeddah airport, “Our efforts to swiftly send Indians back home from Jeddah is paying. 246 Indians will be in Mumbai soon, travelling by IAF C17 Globemaster. Happy to see them off at Jeddah airport.” It is notable that V Muraleedharan is present at Jeddah to oversee Operation Kaveri.

The minister also informed that a fresh batch of 297 Indians was carried by INS Teg from Sudan to Jeddah Port. “Happy to receive 297 Indians at Jeddah carried by INS Teg. With this second ship and total six batches, around 1100 Indians rescued from Sudan have arrived in Jeddah. Repatriation to India of those arriving today will commence shortly,” he tweeted.

Indian nationals are being transported from Port Sudan to Jeddah by navy vessels after being transported there by buses from various internal locations within the northeast African country. From Jeddah, they are being brought to India using IAF transport planes.

Following the rescue, the people chanted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” “Indian Navy zindabad,” and other slogans in Delhi after their arrival. They had boarded the flight in the presence of Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan, who is in charge of Operation Kaveri, India’s flagship evacuation mission.

“We reached Jeddah and our jawans, who are our real heroes, provided us with complete hospitality and service. Now we are going to Mumbai, our home. We all are very grateful to the Prime Minister and the entire country,” stated one Indian.

Another thanked the prime minister for bringing them back safely to India and providing them with necessary arrangements including food.

An elderly woman commented, “May PM Modi live for 1,000 years! We are feeling very relieved.”

A rescuee Avtar Singh mentioned that the operation is progressing at a fast pace, and they are pleased with the government’s prompt action.

Nisha Mehta also expressed her gratitude and happiness on returning back to India.

Indians who have recently returned from the violent country have also described the terrible ordeal and difficulties they had to endure there before being rescued.

More than 1,700 Indian citizens have been evacuated from the war areas in Sudan and around 1100 of those have arrived in Jeddah. The administration is working to get every person out of harm’s way as soon as feasible. 3,400 Indians had gotten in touch with the government, either by signing up online or staying in touch with the embassy in Khartoum.

Currently, 320 Indians are in Port Sudan and 495 are in Jeddah. More Indians are being transported by bus from Khartoum to Port Sudan. The Indians landing in Port Sudan will be carried to Jeddah by two Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130J medium lift planes stationed in Saudi Arabia and navy warships.

Delhi: School van driver Mohammad Azhar arrested for molesting a 6-year-old girl for over a year in the vehicle

On Thursday, April 27, a cab driver was arrested in Delhi for sexually harassing a 6-year-old girl. The accused has been identified as a Jaitpur resident named Mohammad Azhar. The 30-year-old accused used to take the minor victim along with several other students to her school in van. A case has been registered against Mohammad Azhar on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother at the Shaheen Bagh Police Station. The accused has been booked under POCSO Act.

Reportedly, in her complaint, the victim’s mother stated that she had hired the accused Mohammad Azhar to take her daughter to her school in the Defence Colony area. Using this opportunity, the accused has been sexually abusing her daughter for over a year. She added that accused Mohammad Azhar used to touch the minor victim’s private parts inappropriately while driving her to and from her school.

The victim’s mother got to know about the crime after the victim told her mother that she is having pain in her private parts and refused to get into the van. Following this, the victim’s parents questioned her and she revealed her ordeal.

Speaking on the matter, Southeast Delhi DCP Rajesh Dev said that a case has been registered at the Shaheen Bagh Police Station under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and the relevant provisions of the POCSO Act in response to the complaint. He also added that the accused Mohammad Azhar has been arrested.

It has been found during the police investigation that the accused used to take twenty to twenty-five students studying in first and second standard to the school. It was found during the probe that Azhad used to drop the girl at last, giving himself the opportunity to molest her.

The accused was reportedly set to get married on May 2 this year.

Not tolerated on this platform: Elon Musk after suspension of Twitter account that created paedophilia flag

0

On April 26 (local time), Twitter suspended the account of ZeebDemon after the account owner published/created a pride flag dedicated to paedophiles. Notably, April 25 is celebrated among paedophiles as “Alice Day” to “celebrate” their sexual attraction towards kids. The idea behind celebrating the day is to term paedophiles as “Youth Attracted Persons”, giving legitimacy to their “sexual orientation” or “sexual attraction” towards kids. The pride flag basically “honoured” child molesters.

Within 24 hours after ZeebDemon published the flag, the account was permanently banned from Twitter. Dr Anastasia Masia Loupis noticed the suspension and thanked Elon Musk for taking swift action. She wrote, “Elon Musk suspended the person who made a paedophilia flag. Well done, Elon.”

To her tweet, Musk replied, “Not tolerated on this platform”.

Paedophiles have been advocating decriminalising paedophilia for a long time. For example, a former assistant professor at Old Dominion University, Allyn Walker, claimed last year that paedophiles should be called “minor-attracted persons”. Walker said, “It’s less stigmatising than other terms like a paedophile. A lot of people, when they hear the term paedophile, they automatically assume that it means a sex offender. And that isn’t true. And it leads to a lot of misconceptions about attractions toward minors.”

In 2018, it was reported that child traffickers and paedophiles were found to be bragging about their victims on Alice Day. They were seen using the teddy bear symbol to look innocent and happy, but it represented a dark world. It represented association with the same club and sharing tips and tricks to find the next victim.

Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, he has worked extensively to remove child exploitation content from the platform. Notably, before Musk, Twitter failed on multiple occasions to remove child exploitation content. In a Tweet, Musk said it was his priority number one to remove such content from the platform.
