Arvind Kejriwal had promised 7 new hospitals with 6800 beds, not a single one has been built: RTI reveals

On August 2, an RTI reply revealed that contrary to the promises made by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, no new hospitals were constructed by the government of Delhi.

Twitter user Amit Kumar shared a reply to the RTI application that he had filed with the Health Department of the AAP-led Delhi government to find out how many hospitals the Delhi government has built between July 1, 2021, and July 1, 2022. The RTI was filed to see if the promise Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal had made about constructing seven hospitals in October last year was fulfilled or not.

Amit had asked four questions in his RTI application. The first question was about the new hospitals constructed by AAP Government in Delhi between July 1, 2021, to July 2, 2022. In the reply, the Public Information Officer of the Directorate General of Health Services said that no hospitals were constructed in Delhi from July 1, 2021, to July 1, 2022, by the Delhi Government.

There were three other questions asked by Amit about the new beds added by the AAP-led government in Delhi Government hospitals, ambulances added in Delhi State Govt hospitals by the Kejriwal-led government and the number of patients treated in Delhi Mohalla Clinics during the same period. These questions were further forwarded by the Directorate General of Health Services to the concerning departments for replies.

Speaking to OpIndia, Amit said, “I haven’t seen a politician lying this blatantly and not been fact-checked. Not one journalist exposes him. Every promise he made is unfulfilled, but you don’t see anyone highlighting his failures.”

He added, “So I have decided to expose all his lies because apparently, he has bought all the fact checkers and a majority of journalists through ads in their channels.”

CM Kejriwal had promised seven hospitals

In October 2021, CM Kejriwal at an event after laying the foundation stone of a government hospital that was supposed to be built in Shalimar Bagh, said that the government of Delhi was going to build seven new hospitals with a total capacity of 6800 beds. Those hospitals were supposed to be completed in six months.

A Times Now report from February 2022 suggested that the work was delayed and the hospitals were supposed to be completed by mid-2022. The report said that the first hospital would be completed by June and the rest six by September. We could not find any reports of a hospital being inaugurated by the Delhi government in June.

More ambulances were scrapped compared to new ambulances added by Delhi Government

In June 2022, another RTI filed by Gujarati activist Sujit Patel revealed from 2014 to April 2022, the Kejriwal government did not purchase a single ‘patient transport ambulance’ of the kind that can take patients to hospitals. The Kejriwal government had sold nine such patient transport ambulances in the scrap at a price of Rs 23,659 per ambulance during the same period.

From 2014 to April 2022, the Kejriwal government procured a total of 10 ‘Advanced Life Support Ambulances’, which have oxygen, ICUs, and ECG facilities to treat patients in ambulances. During the same period, the Kejriwal government had sold a total of 20 advanced life support ambulances for scrap at a price of Rs 75,246/- per ambulance.

This showed that the number of ambulances by the Health Department of the Government of Delhi had not increased after 2014. In fact, there was a major reduction in the number.

“Those who play with fire will perish by it”, China threatens USA ahead of Nancy Pelosi’s Taiwan visit

View Post

According to reports, Nancy Pelosi is finally going to Taiwan, despite warnings from the Biden administration, who are worried about the rising escalation with China that had already warned against Pelosi’s proposed visit to the island nation. Taiwanese and US officials have stated that Pelosi will visit Taiwan as a part of her Asia tour, and will stay in Taiwan overnight, though it is not clear when she would land in Taipei.

While mainland China and their mouthpieces have issued multiple warnings to the USA to avoid visiting Taiwan, apparently all those warnings from the Chinese side have gone unheard as Pelosi makes her way to Taiwan.

Chinese reaction to Pelosi’s visit

Even the US establishment has done a lot of flip-flops on Taiwan. Initially, Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the United States House of Representatives, was scheduled to visit Taiwan before omitting it from her travel list and then adding it to her Asian visit.

Nancy Pelosi’s Asian visit has become such a high-profile moment that flight radar is receiving unprecedented traffic as people try to confirm if Pelosi was indeed going to Taiwan.

In response to the impending visit by Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, the Chinese embassy to India said, “A visit to Taiwan by US Speaker Pelosi would constitute a gross interference in China’s internal affairs, greatly threaten peace & stability across Taiwan Strait, severely undermine China-US relations & lead to very serious situation & grave consequences.”

Wang Xiaojian, Spokesperson of Chinese Embassy in India further said, “Those who play with fire will perish by it. If the US side insists on making the visit & challenges China’s red line, it will be met with resolute countermeasures. The US must bear all consequences arising thereof.”

PML-Q leader asks for expulsion of Ahmadis from Khushab in Pakistan: Here is how the area has been notorious for Ahmadi persecution

On July 30, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Malik Ilyas Awan wrote a letter to the deputy commissioner of Khushab, a district in the Sargodha Division, located in the Punjab province of Pakistan, urging him to evict the people of the minority Islamic sect of Ahmadis from the district. He also asked the district’s deputy commissioner to withdraw the security provided to the Ahmadi residents of the region.

In his letter, the leader of PML-Q, an ally of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), contended that the Ahmadis should be confined to Chenab Nagar, which is the only Ahmadi-majority city in the country of Pakistan.

The lawmaker went on to say that continuing to give protection to Qadianis/Ahmadiyyas would be a mockery of Pakistan’s Constitution and that Ahmadis should not be permitted to worship openly anywhere else than Chenab Nagar.

“It is requested that Qadianis cannot worship freely in the Islamic state of Pakistan. During Bhutto Shaheed’s government, an area in Chenab Nagar had been allocated for a particular period under an agreement. They cannot do worship outside this area,” he wrote.

Awan further wrote in a letter to DC Khushab that Pakistan is an Islamic state, and that Namaz prayers and preaching are held every Friday in Tariq Wirk’s residence in Joharabad New Satellite Town, which is completely contrary to the Islamic state’s constitution.

He further stated that the presence of Ahmadiyyas in the neighbourhood is having a negative influence on the children residing in the area.

“It is requested that their (Ahmadiyyas) security must be lifted immediately and enquiry be held in this regard. Those who don’t have faith in the finality of prophethood must be ousted from the district,” wrote Awan.

Who are the Ahmadiyyas

Ahmadis in Pakistan represent a persecuted minority and the exclusion of Ahmadis is even enshrined in the constitution of Pakistan.

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, a prominent Muslim scholar and reformer, formed this Community in Qadian, India, in 1889. The movement he founded condemned any kind of terrorism and the use of aggressive violence to preach religion, i.e. the current concept of ‘Jihad’. The extremist ulemas are vehemently opposed to this benign interpretation of Islam. For years, they have exploited it as a pretext to exclude this community from the folds of Islam. In many Islamic nations, especially Pakistan, the Mullahs (the mediaeval orthodox clergy), politicians, and the military in power have collaborated to oppress and persecute this reformist Community.

In 1974, ZA Bhutto, the then Prime Minister of Pakistan, saw it as a political benefit to impose “non-Muslim” status on Muslim Ahmadis by a constitutional amendment. The “mullahs” backed this amendment wholeheartedly. This amendment paved the way for the Community’s persecution. Since then, the state and the Mullahs have worked together to persecute Ahmadis.

Ten years after the Amendment, in 1984, dictator President Zia-ul-Haq introduced Ordinance XX, which further increased the quandary of the Ahmadis in Pakistan. This legislation made it a crime for Ahmadis to practise or simply announce their beliefs in Islam, punishable by three years in jail and an unlimited fine.

As a result, since the year 1984, hundreds of Ahmadis have been severely abused and persecuted for their faith and the institutional apathy towards them has only increased the difficulties of these persecuted minorities.

Notably, the plight of Ahmadis in the Islamic state of Pakistan is so pathetic that have been excluded from the Pakistani government’s minority commission aimed at safeguarding the rights of the country’s minorities. According to the Pakistani constitution, Ahmadis can’t call themselves Muslims, and they can’t call their place of worship as mosques. Moreover, their places of worship can’t look like a Masjid or Mosque, and they can’t have a structure like minarets. Moreover, Ahmadis also can’t write the Kalima-e-Tayyiba on its walls.

Here is how the Khushab district in Pakistan has been notorious for Ahmadi persecution

While Ahmadiyyas are tormented and persecuted throughout the Islamic country, Khushab, a district in the Sargodha Division in Pakistan’s Punjab province, is particularly notorious for their persecution and oppression. Over the years, there have been several occurrences in Pakistan’s Khushab area when Ahmadis have been harassed and discriminated against, and on some occasions, brutally beaten up and killed, with authorities doing nothing to protect them.

Ahmadi man was stabbed to death for his faith in Punjab province close to Khushab in Pakistan

In fact, only this year in May, a 35-year-old Ahmadi man was stabbed to death by a religious fanatic over his faith in the country’s Okara district in Punjab province. The distance between Okara and Khushab district is approximately 270 km.

Kalma erased from an Ahmadiyya mosque with police help in Pakistan

Similarly in April this year, an incident was reported from the Khushab district where Kalma was erased from an Ahmadiyya mosque with the help of the police and the district authorities.

Graves of members of the Ahmadi community desecrated in Khushab, Pakistan

In 2020, police allegedly desecrated three graves belonging to the members of the Ahmadiyya community in Punjab’s Chak-2 TDA district in Khushab. Ironically, the incident had taken place a day after then Prime Minister Imran Khan warned that anyone targeting the country’s minorities would be dealt with strictly.

Ahmadi bank manager shot, Islamists cheer the man who shot him

Similarly in November 2020, videos had surfaced on social media where Islamists are seen cheering and greeting a guard after he allegedly shot a bank manager over a purported blasphemy allegation.

The incident had reportedly taken place in Khushab’s Tehsil Quaidabad on November 4 (Wednesday). One Ahmad Nawaz, a security guard posted at a bank branch, shot and fatally injured National Bank of Pakistan official Muhammad Imran Hanif. Nawaz said he had opened fire as Hanif allegedly committed blasphemy. However, Pakistani police confirmed the two had actually been engaging in a verbal spat for the past couple of days, which had turned sour after they could not reconcile their differences.

Student beaten up, expelled on false charges of blasphemy

Another Ahmadi family in Pakistan’s Khushab district became a victim of gross discrimination and persecution in November 2011. According to reports, a 16-year-old Ahmadi student named Rana Sajeel Ahmad of Pubic High School in Khushab, Pakistan was beaten up severely by a gang of students on November 23, 2011, over charges of blasphemy. Additionally, the activists belonging to the Islamic organization, Aalmi Majlis Tahafuz Khatm-e-Nabuwat (AMTKN) had accused his father, Rana Hakim Jameel, of doing the same by portraying Sajeel as a Muslim in his school admission form.

The school administration found it convenient to accept the fabrication. The next day, Rana Hakim Jamil, met the school principal, but he expelled Ahmad from the school accusing him of blasphemy.

Ever since the false charges emerged, the father-son duo had gone into hiding, fearing their safety. Interestingly, the Khushab police did not bother to register an FIR against the accused, instead had arrested a member of the family of the victims since the family refused to tell them about Sajeel’s whereabouts.

Children aged 8 and 11 booked for subscribing to an Ahmadi magazine

In 2007, reports emerged about how the Khushab police registered cases against five Ahmadis as young as 8 and 11 years old for subscribing to a century-old Ahmadi monthly magazine.

Umair Ahmad (8) and Nusrat Jahan (11) and three other Ahmadis were arrested for receiving the Ahmadiyya monthly for children Tashhizul Azhan by post. The Ahmadia magazine is being published since 1906 in Rabwah, in Pakistan’s Punjab province. The complainant described the magazine, sent through the mail, as “banned literature.”

In a press release issued on February 1 from Rabwah, Saleem-ud-Din, the Ahmadi spokesperson in Pakistan, countered the charges, saying the magazine “is not banned.” He added that Punjab Home Department officials have expressed total ignorance about any ban. Copies of the magazine were taken illegally from the post office, he continued, alleging the case “was registered against innocent children merely on the basis of religious bigotry.”

School teachers face criminal litigation

Another report suggests how two Ahmadis Rafi Ahmad Shahzad and Malik Rashid Ahmad of Khushab who were school teachers had to face charges under PPC 298C and defend themselves against three years in prison after some mischief monger reported against them.

Pakistan notorious for Ahmadi persecution

While the aforementioned crimes occurred in Pakistan’s Khushab area, the country as a whole is infamous for its persecution of the Ahmadiyya minority. In the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, an estimated 4 million Ahmadis, along with other minority populations such as Hindus, Sikhs, and Christians, experience extreme harassment and prejudice in the form of hate crimes and mob violence. These incidents are further aided by institutional apathy which prevents any action against the persecutors.

Despite being one of them, Ahmadiyyas in Pakistan continue to be one of the most susceptible victims of Pakistan’s brutal blasphemy laws. Since 2017, at least 13 Ahmadis have been killed and 40 have been injured as a result of their ethnicity.

Kin of CWG gold medalist Achinta Sheuli lashes out at Mamata Banerjee government over lack of support to ace weightlifter

A day after after weightlifter Achinta Sheuli created history by securing a gold medal in Men’s 73kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2022, his brother Alok lashed out at the West Bengal government over the lack of financial support.

While speaking to news agency ANI on Monday (August 1), he informed, “…Nobody knows that a boy from our village participated in CWG. Even (the) state’s Sports minister seems ignorant, we need government support.”

“We are yet to see how much money will they give for it,” remarked Alok Sheuli. Despite having a cricketer (Manoj Tiwary) as the State’s Sports Minister, the ace weightlifter did not receive any support from the West Bengal government.

The situation was so grim that Achinta Sheuli had considered playing for any State, other than West Bengal.

In an interview with Telegraph India in February 2020, the weightlifter had lamented, “So far, I’ve got no financial support from West Bengal State Weightlifting Association or from the state government. This lack of support has already made matters tougher for me…It can’t go on in this manner and something needs to be done.”

“So the only way I can address this problem is by representing another state. I haven’t yet taken a call on which state I’ll be representing in the near future. But yeah, I’m certainly weighing my options as the likes of Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur are there as alternatives,” he pointed out.

“They provide better support. As far as I know, all other states do what’s required in order to ensure their weightlifters benefit. But it’s not the case here in West Bengal,” Achinta Sheuli had said in 2020.

However, this did not stop West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to appear concerned for the 20-year-old after he had secured a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Despite providing negligible support, the CM tweeted, “Truly a proud moment for all of us as the young AchintaSheuli from West Bengal wins the third gold medal at CWG, 2022.”

Achinta Sheuli brought accolades for India on Sunday (July 31) night by lifting a total weight of 313 kg (snatch 143 kg and clean & jerk 170 kg). Born and raised in a poor family, the gold medalist had to take on embroidery early on in his life to sustain his family.

His brother Alok Sheuli, also a weightlifter, played a crucial role in his life to support his dream to represent India. Reportedly, Achinta was being paid a ₹10000 stipend each month by the Centre after he won gold medal in Khelo India Games. He was also provided with the job of a Havildar in the Indian army.

Bengal cash scam: Woman hurls ‘chappal’ at Partha Chatterjee, objects to luxury services provided to him even after being exposed

0

In a bizarre incident on Tuesday, a furious woman picked up her ‘chappal’ and hurled it at former West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee for his involvement in the Bengal SSC cash scam. The woman expressed her anger and said that poor people earned money after hard work but people like Partha were being taken around in expensive cars even after being exposed.

According to the reports, the incident happened when Partha Chatterjee and his close aide Arpita Mukharjee were being taken from the ESI hospital to the ED office after their regular medical check-up. The woman threw her slippers in the direction of the Minister though the target was missed. “I had come to throw my shoe on him. He has taken money from poor people. I would have been happier if the shoe would have hit him on his head,” she said while talking to the media.

The angry lady reiterated that Partha had duped common citizens and had laundered crores of rupees. She objected that why was he being provided luxury services even after being exposed to the cash scam. “Why is he allowed to use AC cars? Why is he given the wheelchair facility? Can’t he walk?”, she said expressing her frustration.

Meanwhile, Chaterjee’s close aide, Arpita revealed that the money recovered by ED from her apartments did not belong to her and that it was kept at her house in her absence. “The money does not belong to me, it was kept there in my absence”, she said. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had earlier recovered more than Rs 50 crores in cash from her houses in Kolkata. After Arpita’s statements on August 2, the ED is again raiding her other premises in Kolkata.

Former Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, and his ‘close friend’ Arpita Mukherjee have been making headlines for their involvement in the multi-crore SSC recruitment scam case. During the ED raids, it has been found that Partha Chatterjee owns a large number of flats, many of which he has gifted to his ‘close aides’ including Arpita Mukherjee and Monalisa Das. Earlier, Arpita had told the ED that Partha Chatterjee used her flat as a ‘mini bank’.

The West Bengal Teacher’s recruitment scam, more commonly referred to as the SSC scam, looks into the recruitment process conducted through the State Level Selection Test (SLT) conducted by SSC from 2014 to 2016. Candidates who appeared for the State Level Selection Test (SLST) exam had alleged that many candidates who secured fewer marks ended up with higher ranks on the merit list. They further stated that the candidates who were not on the merit list were also sent appointment letters.

Also, in the year 2016, multiple allegations of corruption cropped up regarding the recruitment of Group C and Group D employees in secondary and higher secondary schools under the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. The matter came to light in March this year after irregularities were noticed in the recruitment process of teachers in the state government schools.

Earlier, the single bench had ordered the CBI to interrogate the former chairman of the SSC advisory committee, SP Sinha, and other former members of the panel. The court had asked the CBI to file a report after interrogating the former members. In April, the CBI also registered an FIR against West Bengal Directorate of School Education former deputy director Alok Kumar Sarkar and unidentified officials of the SSC.

Watch: Go First airlines car drives under IndiGo plane at Delhi airport, accident avoided by inches

0

On August 2, a bizarre video surfaced on social media where a Go First airline’s car went under an IndiGo aircraft at Delhi airport. It narrowly avoided the collision with the nose wheel of IndiGo’s plane. The incident was caught on camera, and the video was shared by news agency ANI. The IndiGo flight was preparing to depart for Patna when a Swift Dzire car that belonged to Go First went under it.

In the video, a person could be heard saying that the driver of the car almost hit him before going under the plane. He also alleged that the driver looked tired and sleepy.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation or DGCA said in a statement that they would investigate the incident. Reports suggest that the driver was subjected to a breath analyser test to determine if he was drunk during the incident, but the report came negative.

The plane was not damaged, and there were no reports of any injuries.

Uttar Pradesh: Two Hindu students of Faiz-e-Aam Muslim College expelled for reading Hanuman Chalisa instead of Quran

0

The Inter College in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh named Faiz-e-Aam Muslim College is in the news after it expelled two Hindu students for reading Hanuman Chalisa instead of the Quran. The victim students say that they were asked to read a few verses from Quran but they chose to read Hanuman Chalisa instead after which they have been forced to stay out of the institute.

According to the reports, the Hindu students who have been expelled from the college are accused of spreading religious hysteria. While one of the victim students confirmed that his name has been dropped from college for reading Hanuman Chalisa instead of Quran, the other student says that he is not even aware why his name has been removed from the college.

Sourav Yadav, a student of class 11, revealed the exact sequence of events. He said that he was sitting and reading Rahim’s couplets, a Muslim student who was sitting beside him happened to object to his act and asked him to read the Quran instead of the couplet. Saurav Yadav then began reading Ramayana and Hanuman Chalisa instead of the Quran. The Muslim students complained to the college management and they ultimately cut off Sourav’s name from the college and issued him a Transfer Certificate.

The other Hindu student who has been expelled from the college has been identified as Madhavendra Pratap Singh. Madhavendra stated that he is totally unaware of what exactly happened and doesn’t know why his name has been cut off from the college. He said that he was doing science homework in his class and in the meantime, something happened that resulted in his termination.

Addressing the issue, college authority member, Mohammad Akhtar Siddiqui, vehemently denied the allegations put forth by both the Hindu students. He called it a conspiracy and said that the students were deliberately trying to malign the college’s reputation.

However, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) provincial media in-charge Sharad Sharma has demanded the arrest of the college principal and manager in this case. The Hindu organization has also warned that if action is not taken within three days, the issue will be taken to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. DM Nitish Kumar is looking into the matter while investigations are underway.

Pro-Khalistani org Dal Khalsa opposes ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’, urges Sikhs to hoist Nishan Sahib, ‘gherao’ govt, officials: Details

On July 31, a video made it to social media in which a member of the pro-Khalistani organization Dal Khalsa’s spokesperson Paramjit Singh Mand urged Sikhs not to hoist Tiranga under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ movement from August 13 to August 15. A video of a meeting of Sikh Groups at Bargari Morcha, Behbal Kalan, on July 31 was published by Rehmat TV. It is pertinent to note that Mand is the same person who has previous hailed Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

The Sikh Groups called the meeting over the inaction of the AAP-led government against sacrilege incidents that have happened in Punjab over the years. Earlier, Cabinet Minister Harjot Bains had met Sikh Groups and asked for six months over the pending cases but Sikh leaders denied it. Notably, CM Bhagwant Mann has promised quick action in the pending cases if AAP forms the government in the state.

In his address to the attendees of the meeting, Mand said, “On August 15, government officials hoist National Flag Tiranga on every government establishment. It happens in every school as well. This year, the Chief Minister will hoist the flag in Ludhiana. If you want to poke the system, the only way is by ‘gherao’ the officials who will go to hoist the flag. We are not going to disturb the program, but action has to be taken.”

He added, “Before going to corner the officials, make sure to announce your plans. Secondly, if you have read the papers, the government machinery has received the message [from the centre]. They have made crores of Tirangas for ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ movement. Do not take this lightly. Do not think that you do not need to react over the distribution of crores of Tirangas.”

Connecting Indian National Flag to Operation Blue Star, he said, “They will force you to hoist Tiranga at your houses. They will question you why you have not hoisted the flag. This is the same flag under which the attack at Darbar Sahib took place. They killed our people and did sacrilege to Guru Granth Sahib. The same Tiranga will be hoisted on your houses.”

He added, “To challenge their movement, we have decided that on every house in the state, the symbol of Khalsa (Nishan Sahib) will be hoisted. If someone does not accept Khalisai, they are free to hoist a flag of any colour but Tiranga. If you agree to this, a message will be sent to India. Above all, Punjab is known for the fact that you cannot force us to do anything. They cannot force us to hoist Tiranga. We do not accept this.”

He further stated that his organization and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) boycott August 15 celebrations every year. They call it a black day. “We should do this at a larger platform. Everyone should contribute to this movement. This is not a cause of a small community. Jam the roads. Bring more people to join our movement. You have to press the neck of the enemy. They challenged us by killing our people. Now we will challenge them by not hoisting Tiranga. On August 15, the Kesari flag will be hoisted on every roof in Punjab.”

‘Har Ghar Tiranga’

‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ is a campaign under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage people to hoist the Indian National flag to mark the 75th year of India’s independence. The aim is not only to strengthen the personal connection to the nation but also an embodiment of our commitment to nation-building. It will provoke a feeling of patriotism in the hearts of citizens of India and will promote awareness about the National Flag.

Karnataka: 6 including Suhas, Mohan and Sreenivas arrested in Mohammed Fizal murder case, cops rule out Shia-Sunni angle

0

The Karnataka police on Monday achieved a major breakthrough in the Mohammed Fizal murder case. According to the reports, six individuals, namely Mohan Singh (26), Srinivas Katipalla (23), Giridhar (23), Deekshith (21), Abhishek and Suhas Shetty, (29) have been arrested in connection with the case.

The police have ruled out the Shia-Sunni conflict angle that was reported as a plausible cause for the murder of Mohammed Fazil. Reports had earlier hinted that Mohammed Fazil, a practising Sunni, was killed for loving a Sunni girl.

However, the police investigation found that Fazil was a victim of a direct fallout of the murder of BJYM worker Praveen Nettaru, who was murdered by Islamists allegedly linked to PFI and SDPI, a phenomenon that is becoming dangerously common in the last few months where assertive Hindus are targeted and killed by Islamic fanatics intoxicated with supremacist beliefs and hatred towards non-Muslims.

On the Mohammed Fazil murder, police said Suhas is a history-sheeter, involved in a murder case and two attempts to murder cases. A manhunt was launched to nab the culprits, who were reportedly a part of Suhas Shetty gang.

Over the weekend, the police also impounded the car used by killers and arrested its owner Ajith Crasta, a resident of Surathkal. The vehicle was sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts for further probe in the matter. The government had appointed an ACP-rank officer to probe the matter after the family members of the victim demanded a thorough investigation.

Following the death of Mohammed Fazil, CM Bommai had assured that the Mangaluru police had been given a free hand in probing the murder of the youth.

On Thursday last week, a 23-year-old youth named identified as Mohammed Fazil was killed by a group of assailants on Krishnapura-MRPL road, Mangaluru, Karnataka. The incident happened late in the evening on the outskirts of Mangaluru after which Sec 144 CrPC was imposed in Surathkal, Mulki, Bajpe, and Panambur areas. The deceased was a resident of Mangalpete near Surathkal and owned a clothes shop.

According to the Police, Fazil was attacked with a lethal weapon by 4-5 unidentified miscreants. A report by Deccan Herald mentioned that preliminary investigations led by the Police revealed that the deceased was murdered because he was in love with a Shia woman whereas Mohammed Fazil practised Sunni Islam. The miscreants arrived in a car near the cloth shop owned by the deceased, killed him, and fled from the spot after the murder.

MK Gandhi’s great grandson Tushar Gandhi snubbed as Sabarmati Ashram trusts side with state govt over redevelopment plan

0

Tushar Gandhi, Mohandas Gandhi’s great grandson, has been left red faced after the trusts that own and manage the Sabarmati Ashram aka Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad, sided with the state government and opposed involvement of National Gandhi Smarak Nidhi (GSN). GSN has no legal right over the Gandhi Ashram and its precincts, said Atul Pandya, director of one of the trusts, in its affidavit.

Further, GSN does not play any role in management and regular day to day affairs of Gandhi Ashram and does not provide any financial assistance either. Another trust in its affidavit stated that GSN has lost interest in the maintenance and upkeep of the Sabarmati Ashram and hence there is no question of involving them into the redevelopment project.

The Gujarat state government cleared in High Court on Monday (August 1), that MK Gandhi’s descendant could definitely be made an invitee to the committee overseeing the re-development work of the Sabarmati Ashram but could not dictate terms.

The Gujarat High Court was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Gandhi’s great-grandson Tushar Gandhi last year, challenging the state government’s proposal to revamp the Sabarmati Ashram.

When questioned whether the state is willing to make Gandhi’s descendant an invitee to the committee overseeing the development, advocate general Kamal Trivedi, appearing for the Gujarat government told the CJ of Gujarat HC, “Certainly this can be done, but he can’t dictate (terms).”

“We’re trying to do everything with consensus and cooperation from all,” Trivedi said, adding that trustees of several trusts operating on Ashram land are members of the new committee.

Tushar Gandhi’s counsel, in turn, informed the court that he did not oppose the redevelopment plan in its entirety, but rather the process used by the government. He further claimed that the government-formed trust has a majority of government members, while those linked with trusts operating on ashram land are in the minority. “All I am saying is let Gandhian members have a plurality in the trust that supervises redevelopment,” Tushar Gandhi’s lawyer submitted.

Govt proposes Rs 1,200 crore redevelopment project for Sabarmati Ashram

In 2021, the Gujarat state government embarked upon an ambitious project to redevelop Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram and expand it from its present five acres to approximately 55 acres at a cost of Rs 1200 crores. The project, which is being overseen by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself, includes plans of transforming the Sabarmati Ashram into a world-class memorial, complete with facilities and amenities. The revamp project has been conceptualised by leading architect Bimal Patel, who is also involved in the revamping of the Central Vista project in the national capital.

The State government has stated unequivocally that the redevelopment project, also known as the Gandhi Ashram Memorial and Precinct Development Project, will be carried out in a manner that is respectful of the original ashram’s ethos.

Gandhi’s kin approached SC against the state govt’s decision to revamp Sabarmati Ashram

However, Tushar filed the PIL, disputing the renovation under a body dominated by government office bearers and employees, claiming that excluding Gandhian trusts will result in the new premises losing the Gandhian ethos. The Gujarat HC dismissed Gandhi’s plea on November 21, 2021.

Tushar Gandhi then moved the Supreme Court opposing the redevelopment of Sabarmati Ashram. In March 2022, the apex court agreed to hear the plea filed by Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson and asked the HC to examine the plea and said that it is not going into the merits of the case.

Gujarat Govt says petitioner should be happy but instead he has expressed unhappiness for no good reason

On April 25, the state government submitted an affidavit in response to the public interest litigation (PIL). The state government refused that the proposed revamp will lose the essence of simplicity and Gandhian ethos.

The state government further stated in their affidavit that the Gandhi Ashram does not give appropriate information about the whole Ashram as formed by Gandhiji and the ideology propounded by the Father of the Nation. The govt added that it is expected of the petitioner to take pride in the fact that attempts are being made to maintain Gandhiji’s legacy, but instead, the petitioner has just expressed unhappiness for no good reason, it added.
