Days after an Islamist brutally beheaded a teacher, France Govt prepares to expel 231 religious extremists from the country

0

Two days after a teacher was beheaded by an Islamist amidst chants of ‘Allahu Akbar’ in Paris, the France Government has decided to come down heavily on suspected Islamic extremists in the country. In a massive crackdown, France is now preparing to expel 231 radicalized foreign nationals, Reuters quoted a police union source as informing on Sunday.

It is being reported that more than 850 illegal immigrants are registered to the File of Alerts for the Prevention of Terrorist Attacks (FSPRT). Out of 231 fundamentalists in the FSPRT who will be deported, 180 people are currently in prison and 51 were due to be arrested in the next hours.

France defines extremists as “people who, engaged in a process of radicalisation, are likely to want to go abroad to join terrorist groups or take part in terrorist activities”.

Teacher beheaded amidst chants of ‘Allahu Akbar’ in Paris, France

Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin said that France plans to carry out the expulsion swiftly in response to the recent brutal killing of Samuel Paty, a 47-year-old history teacher. The gruesome attack was executed by a Muslim teenager of Russian origin, Abdoullakh Abouyezidovitch A. He stabbed the 47-year-old teacher in his throat, right outside the school, while shouting “Allahu Akbar” for showcasing cartoons of Prophet Mohammed to his students at College du Bois d’Aulne.

He was later shot dead during an encounter with the police. The Muslim youth, born in Moscow, had come to France as a refugee and was out of the radar of the anti-terrorism police. He had earlier been to courts for minor offences. French President Emanuel Macron has condemned the barbaric attack and had dubbed it as ‘Islamist terrorist attack.’

Online doxxing by Islamists, role of a local Mosque in probe

It was revealed that the beheading of the teacher had taken place in the backdrop of an online campaign by the father of a female Muslim student in the class. As per reports, the local mosque (La Grande Mosquée de Pantin) had also joined the online campaign to get Samuel Paty fired. While sharing the video address on Facebook, it had urged fellow Muslims to contact Brahim Chnina, the father of the 13-year-old student.

Although the mosque did not give away personal details of the deceased teacher, it was allegedly a part of the mobilisation campaign that eventually lead to the gruesome crime. Since Friday, the French police have arrested a total of 10 people in connection to the case.

Congress, media target Varun Gandhi for unwillingness to speak to a stranger late at night: Here is who the man was and why he had called

The Congress party has decided to go after BJP MP Varun Gandhi after a leaked version of his conversation found its way to the media. In the leaked conversation, Varun Gandhi could be heard telling the caller that 9.30 p.m. is not the proper time to call him and he would listen to his grievances the morning after.

The caller tells Varun Gandhi that he is from Pilibhit to which the elected representative from the constituency says that he should call him the next morning if he has any work. At one point he says, “I am not your father’s servant that I would talk to you at 10 p.m. in the night. If you have work at midnight or 10 p.m., then I am sorry, I cannot speak to you at such a time.”

Ishita Yadav, Parliamentary Secretary of Varun Gandhi, meanwhile, has said on social media that the caller in question was actually someone who had been arrested for selling spurious liquor to underage children. “Varun Gandhi is not going to help shady people like this. He chose to protect the people of Pilibhit instead,” she said while responding to Rohini Singh of The Wire who decided to jump into the scene to pile up on the BJP MP.

Ishita Yadav further stated that the audio of the leaked conversation had been cut and edited. The Week has also reported that the caller is one Sarvesh, a resident of Shivaji Colony in Pilibhit’s Sunghadi area. The police had recovered 20 bottles of country-made liquor and he was let off after furnishing two bail bonds worth Rs. 20,000 each.

Thus, Varun Gandhi’s decision to not entertain the caller appears to be the ethically correct one too. It is quite obvious that Sarvesh had called Varun Gandhi for help with the police. While the media appears bent on creating a controversy, it is entirely legitimate that even an elected representative to the Parliament would not be available to receive calls at odd times during the day. Furthermore, Varun Gandhi says repeatedly that he is willing to hear his concerns the next morning.

Even so, the expectation that politicians should be available to speak to their constituents at all times during the day is rather unjustified. Politicians are, after all, humans and it is only natural that thy may not b willing to speak to strangers after a certain point at night.

India formally invites Australia to join the 2020 Malabar trilateral naval exercise, Australia confirms full participation: Read details

The Malabar naval exercise finally becomes a Quad event after Australia confirms full participation in the military exercise with India, US and Japan scheduled in November this year. The military exercise will now bring together the navies of India, Japan, Australia and the US in the Bay of Bengal at the end of the year. It will be the first time all members of the regional grouping known as the Quad will be engaged at a military level. Australia had last participated in Exercise MALABAR as a non-permanent partner in 2007.

Calling it a milestone opportunity for the Australian Defence force, the minister of foreign affairs and minister of women, Senator the Hon Marise Payne said that the exercise builds on the comprehensive strategic partnership, to which PM Morrison and PM Narendra Modi agreed on June 4, 2020. Accepting the invitation the minister called the military exercise an important step in Australia’s deepening relationship with India. The minister said: “It will bolster the ability of India, Japan, Australia and the US to work together to uphold peace and stability across our region”.

Seeking to strengthen military cooperation with other Asia-Pacific countries amid rising tensions with China, India had extended a formal invitation to Australia to join the 2020 edition of the military exercise that has so far involved the navies of India, US, and Japan.

India extends formal invitation to Australia to join the Malabar naval excercise

According to people directly familiar with the matter, the Malabar exercises will be taking place in two stages in the Bay of Bengal; the 2019 exercise took place from September 26 to October 4 off the coast of Japan. The naval exercise featuring the QUAD partners will be held on November 3-6 and November 17-20. The shared objective of all four countries is free and open navigation in Indo-Pacific.

India’s inclusion of Australia this year follows a defence agreement and upgrading ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The Mutual Logistics support agreement announced in May by Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Scott Morrison allows access to each other’s bases and ports. India has a similar agreement with the U.S.

Once they were done committing the heinous crime, they abandoned the girls in the mountain area. The local people found them and informed the police. However, the way police handled the case was inhumane as well. Police took them in an auto-rickshaw instead of an ambulance.

Girls were abducted from home

As per reports, two minor cousins were sleeping at their home in a village in the Bhinmal region. Four young men abducted them on Saturday night. They took them to a deserted place and gang-raped them. The accused fled from the scene after throwing them on the hills of Sundhamata in Rajpura. The health of the girls further deteriorated due to cold weather.

Their family members were looking for them and spotted them in the hill area. They were admitted to a private hospital. One of the girls is in critical condition. As per reports, they were beaten by the accused during gang-rape. One of the girls had a severe injury on her head.

Police criticized for inaction

It has been alleged that police kept confusing the family in the name of finding the abducted girls. Later they were found on the hills of Rajpura. After gaining consciousness, one of the girls gave a statement to the police that they were gang-raped. Police took them in an auto-rickshaw and admitted them to a private hospital.

As per the police, based on the complaint filed by the family of the victims, a case has been registered against Chetnaram, Ashok, Tejaram, Piraram Bhil, and two others. Police have formed four search teams in Jaswantpura, Ramsin, Bagoda, and Bhinmal police stations. They are executing raids at several locations in search of the accused.

Family of girl murdered in terror attack condemns BBC for providing platform to terrorist Ahlam Tamimi, painting her as a victim: Read details

The family of Malki Roth, who was killed at the age of 15 in the Sbarro Pizza parlour bombing in Jerusalem in 2001, has condemned the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for providing its platform to her remorseless murderer. The condemnation came in the wake of BBC’s Arabic television service that broadcasted an appeal for the mastermind behind that attack, Ahlam Tamimi, to be reunited with her husband following his deportation by the Jordanian government.

Malki was one among the 15 people killed and more than 130 wounded by terrorist Ahlam Tamimi in a 2001 bombing attack at a Sbarro pizzeria in Jerusalem. The family has called upon the BBC to issue an apology to the family and the kin of other victims of the attack for allowing their platform to be used to garner sympathy for the murderer.

Ahlam Tamimi appeals to Jordan King Abdullah II for uniting her with her husband

Malki’s father, Arnold, wrote a piece published by Palestinian Media Watch last Tuesday. He had written: “On Oct. 8, 2020, a program called ‘Trending’ on BBC’s Arabic TV service beamed ‎throughout the world an item about Tamimi for the purpose of creating sympathy for the ‎child murderer.”

Arnold added that how Ahlam’s husband, Nizar Tamimi, who is also a released terrorist, was pressurised by the Jordanian authorities to leave the country for Qatar on October 1.

About 7 days later, BBC’s Arabic TV service broadcasted a report painting Tamimi as a victim and detailing how she was called into a famous Amman-based radio station in order to seek King Abdullah II’s intervention to have her husband returned to Jordan.

BBC coverage of terrorist Ahlam Tamimi

Tamimi’s 16-year prison sentence was cut short for a prisoner-exchange program with Hamas

About two decades ago, in August 2001, Ahlam Tamimi brought a guitar filled with explosives in a Sbarro Pizza shop in Jerusalem. She gave the guitar-laden with explosives to a suicide bomber, who detonated the bomb in the shop, killing 15 people, 8 of them children. When asked about the families and children she murdered, Tamimi unrepentantly said she had “no regrets”. Tamimi smiled from ear to ear when she was informed that 8 of the 15 murdered by her bomb were children.

Tamimi was sentenced to 16-years of rigorous imprisonment after her role in the bombing came to light. However, she was released after 10 years of incarceration as a part of a prisoner exchange deal for captured Israeli Defense Forces’ soldier Gilad Shalit between Israel and Hamas.

Ahlam is in the United States’ list of “Most Wanted Terrorist” but Jordan has contended that it cannot extradite her to America since she has Jordanian citizenship, and a 1995 extradition agreement with the United States was not yet formalised by Jordan’s government. The US has offered a bounty of $5 million for her capture and conviction.

Republic TV’s Arnab Goswami to sue Param Bir Singh for Rs 200 crore after Maha Govt’s admission in Mumbai High court

0

In an interesting development in the Republic TV vs Mumbai police tussle, the media network’s chief Arnab Goswami is all set to sue Mumbai PC Param Bir Singh for Rs 200 crores as damages after the Mumbai Police and Maharashtra Government lawyer today in the Bombay High Court admitted that Republic is not named in the FIR in the TRP case.

In a news release, the media giant informed that Republic Media Network Editor-in-Chief and Managing Director Arnab Goswami has directed his legal team Phoenix Legal to initiate the proceedings to sue Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh for Rs 200 crore damages (Rs 100 crore for damage to the reputation of Arnab Goswami, and Rs. 100 crore for the damage caused to Republic Media Network). At present, the legal teams of Republic are in the process of filing the defamation suit against Param Bir Singh, informed Republic TV.

Today, in a surprising turn of events, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who represented the Mumbai police, contradicting the Police Commissioner’s allegation against Republic TV admitted in Bombay HC that Republic TV is not named in the FIR in the TRP scam case. The Mumbai police seemed to distance itself from the allegations made by the Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.

“Following this admission by the Maharashtra Government in open court, Arnab Goswami has directed that he will take every legal action against Param Bir Singh (and others if so required) and seek damages via a defamation suit”, read the news release.

It further stated that the media network will also file a contempt petition against the special executive magistrate and assistant police commissioner- Sudhir Jambwadekar, as he had initiated chapter proceedings with respect to FIRs lodged against Republic TV, that have been suspended by the orders of the Bombay High Court.

Accusing Mumbai PC of carrying out a lie-ridden campaign against Republic Media Network, especially since his news conference on 8th October 2020, the channel said: “While Param Bir Singh went on a media overdrive attempting to sully the name of Republic on the basis of vindictiveness instead of evidence, the truth has triumphed once again- and this time reiterated by those in his own quarters of power before a court of law”.

Calling the admission by the Maha Govt in court today as a huge victory to Republic TV, that has consistently maintained that there was no malpractice by the Network, the media giant thanked all those who stood by it. “Eternally indebted to the people of India who have stood by us and joined us in this fight at every step”. Saying so the network vowed never to bow down to coercive attempts to muzzle the voice of the media, no matter the pressures at play.

“Republic will remain fierce and fearless in its pursuit of the truth, with the people of India standing strongly with us”, said Republic TV calling this a triumph of good over evil.

Republic TV had today moved the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of the FIR lodged against the channel by the Mumbai Police in the TRP (television rating points) scam case. The petition filed by Republic TV had also sought a direction to transfer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to ensure a fair and transparent probe.

Frustrated with “rants” of Shashi Tharoor, MP Nishikant Dubey requests Lok Sabha speaker to put him in a committee where there is no Tharoor

Peeved by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s “incorrigible” conduct of repeatedly breaching the “Confidentiality Clause”, an exasperated BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who is member of a parliamentary panel headed by the Congress leader, wrote a letter to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, asking him to be put in some other committee where there is no Tharoor.

In his three-page letter, Dubey said that the chairperson of the Information Technology parliamentary panel, Shashi Tharoor, has yet again violated the confidentiality rules by making allegations against certain corporate houses and launching politically motivated attacks against some TV channels through social media.

“Dr Tharoor has yet again compromised the ‘Confidentiality Clause’ as contained in Direction 55 of the Directions by the Speaker, Lok Sabha,” Said Dubey while adding, “It is an abject display of truant behaviour on the part of Dr Tharoor to abusively call the ‘Republic TV’ as ‘Repulsive TV’ and also making unsubstantiated insinuations and rant against various reputable Companies/ Entities like Raymonds, Air India, Maruti, Dabur, etc.”

Dubey, who is at odds with Tharoor for the last few months, was referring to the series of tweets posted by the Congress leader on Sunday in which he alleged that corporates were financing “hatred” by advertising on some news channels.

Dubey has alleged that Tharoor’s conduct of openly discussing various aspects which are under examination of the Committee on Information Technology is an “affront” to the overall working of the parliamentary committees and asked the speaker to nominate him to some other committee.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor’s prolong rant against some news channels

Earlier yesterday, Tharoor posted a string of tweets, ranting and raving against organisations who funded Republic TV and Times Now, news channels known for making no bones about criticising the Congress party for its deceit and duplicity. Republic TV has also doggedly pursued the alleged murder of Sunanda Pushkar, the erstwhile wife of Shashi Tharoor and who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the hotel Leela Palace in Delhi, drawing the Congress leader’s ire.

It is notable here that Tharoor had earlier tried to get a gag order against Republic TV over reporting the suspicious circumstances of his wife’s death.

“Should such reputable companies be financing hate through ads on Repulsive TV? Raymonds, Muthoot Group, Jio, Max Bupa, Kent, Air India, Star Health Insurance, Nissan, Dabur, Mahindra, Amazon, Samsung, Sony, Maruti, Nerolac, Toyota. Can they find the moral courage to be like Parle?” Tharoor tweeted while referring to Republic TV as Repulsive TV.

“Should Corporates have the ‘same moral and social duties as individuals, to condemn immoral ideology, to abjure hate and communalism, to not incite one community against another, to distinguish between the truth and falsehood?” Tharoor’s other moralising tweet read, adding that “these amoral Corporates should know that their ‘Return on investment’ is ‘a society and country being torn apart by the channels they fund. Our Corporates aspire to be global entities but fail to espouse global values’. Why do companies fund hatred?”

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor at loggerheads over breach of privilege notices

In August 2020, Dubey and Tharoor filed a breach of privilege notices against each other following an ugly social media spat over the Congress leader’s statements summoning the Facebook India executives over hate speech row.

After the bitter war of words between the two leaders on social media, the Lok Sabha speaker had issued a stern advisory to chairmen of all parliamentary panels, asking them to strictly follow the rules and regulations while conducting committee meetings.
