While BJP trying to strengthen the future of the party, Congress focuses on the family’s future

Politics is a constant transformation for political parties as they embark on fighting elections in different states on a constant basis. But in India, political parties cannot just become an election fighting machine. They have to create a cadre among themselves as they cease to exist on various counts in the country.

Two of the tallest parties of India’s political dynamics have undergone tremendous transformations in these last 16 years. While Congress enjoyed power in the New Delhi from 2004 to 2014, they tried their level best to churn the next generation of leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Gaurav Gogoi, Sachin Pilot, Susmita Dev, Deependra Singh Hooda, K.C. Venugopal, Mukul Wasnik, RPN Singh, Rajiv Satav, Ajay Maken, Jitin Prasada, Manish Tewari and Milind Deora. My deliberate intention behind mentioning so many names was to highlight that almost all of the above-mentioned leaders went on to become Ministers in UPA-1 or UPA-2 under PM Manmohan Singh.

During these 10 years in power, these leaders were asked to work in the shadow of Rahul Gandhi who was deemed to be the next superpower in the Congress party after his mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. While Sonia Gandhi had all senior generations of Congress under her garb, this younger generation of leaders created clout as the gen-next of the party to support Rahul whenever he took control of the party in his own hands.

Everything was going well inside the party until they were in power. But, soon after the party’s debacle in 2014 general elections, came the difficult phase for the grand old party. Being thrown out of power and decimated to a meagre 44 member party in the Loksabha in 2014, the younger generation started facing the heat of staying away from power. Rahul Gandhi by now had been adjudged as a systematic failure within the party. Yet, no one could actually accept this fact as he belonged to the family that almost owned the party as its private property. Gradually with time, differences starting arising within the party, when Rahul faction that had these young turks came at loggerheads with the seniors who belonged to Sonia Gandhi’s faction.

In recent times, many of these young leaders from Congress have been sidelined or ignored by the party. These times could have actually been utilised to ensure the bright future of the party keeping 2024 Lok Sabha elections in mind which would be the last elections for the stalwarts of Congress. Gears should have been shifted systematically to create a grooming space for the next generations of the party to pave the way for its future course. But such doesn’t appear to be happening.

In the case of Bharatiya Janata Party, they faced really difficult days till the 2009 Loksabha elections after being thrown out of power in 2004. With the sudden demise of BJP strongman Pramod Mahajan and retirement of Atal Bihari Vajpayee from politics in 2005, the onus was shifted on Lal Krishna Advani to lead the party. The BJP also underwent tough times during these 5 years as they were defeated in the 2009 Lok Sabha election and UPA came back to power becoming even stronger in numbers. But BJP gradually came up from those hiccups by garnering the next generation of its leaders who came up from different states. The rise of Narendra Modi to the national level in 2012, gave BJP the strong hopes of returning to power in 2014.

BJP stood behind Narendra Modi as a team, with the likes of their strong leaders like Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Rajnath Singh, Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Manohar Parrikar, holding on to their strengths. This resulted in BJP becoming a force to fight the Loksabha elections 2014 and emerge victorious with a huge margin. Meanwhile, BJP also created a relatively younger generation of leaders like Amit Shah, J.P. Nadda, Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, Smriti Irani, Jitendra Singh, Kiren Rijiju etc who became Union Ministers.

During this while, BJP very systematically has also created a breeding ground to another generation of leadership for its future times. This generation includes young faces like Yogi Adityanath, Kishan Reddy, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sarbananda Sonowal, Anurag Thakur, Poonam Mahajan, Devendra Fadnavis, Babul Supriyo who appear to be the ones to stand the longer race and emerge as BJP’s go-to warriors to take the baton forward. BJP has methodically given these leaders different opportunities in their home states or the national politics within the party.

With BJP grooming its younger lot, after JP Nadda taking over from Amit Shah in January 2020, many changes have been witnessed within the party as well as in the Modi cabinet. With many more transformations are expected to happen in the coming days in BJP, eyes will be on the happenings. It will be interesting to see how BJP strengthens its future ranks while Congress is failing reasonably in creating its future leadership other than Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi. The recent incidents like Scindia jumping over the ships and Pilot creating disturbances in Rajasthan have evidently highlighted the cracks within the Congress where younger leaders face stiff opposition within the party from old horses who continue their loyalty to the Sonia Gandhi.

Azam Khan pledges to take jal-samadhi in Saryu river if not invited for Bhoomi Pujan ceremony of Ram Mandir

0

While the preparations for laying the foundation stone for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is on the anvil, President of the Sri Ram Mandir Nirman Muslim Kar Sevak Manch, Azam Khan, has said that he will take jal-samadhi (fast unto death in river) in Saryu river if he is not nvited for the Bhumi pujan programme scheduled to take place on August 5.

Azam Khan, not to be confused with the SP MP with the same name, took the pledge of jal-samadhi in Saryu river, claiming that he is a lifelong devotee of Lord Rama and fought alongside others for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Claiming that Lord Rama can’t be tied to any particular religion or caste, Khan said that he also wants to be witness to the construction of the temple and contribute towards the pious work. Azam Khan was in Ayodhya where he visited Ram Lala and also paid homage at the tomb of the late Mahant Ramchandra Das Paramahamsa, the pioneer of the Ram Mandir movement.

Azam Khan further added that the venerable Hindu God Lord Rama is his idol and he, too, yearns to witness the groundbreaking ceremony of Ram Temple.

“The way Lord Rama and Lakshman took jal samadhi in Saryu, in the same manner, I will also take jal-samadhi in Saryu if not invited for the ceremony,” Khan said.

Sri Ram Mandir Nirman Muslim Kar Sevak Manch is an organisation of Muslims who have been supporting the cause of construction of a grand Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Azam Khan had formed the group after Supreme Court suggested both the parties in the Ayodhya Case to build consensus in the issue in 2017, before its historic verdict paving the way for construction of the temple at the previously disputed site.

However, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has not yet confirmed his visit. in the wake of coronavirus outbreak, fever people will be invited for the ceremony. As per sources, only 150-200 people are going to be invited for the occasion.

Efforts underway to mainstream ‘Drag Queen Story Hours’ in India, ‘volunteers’ from classes 9 to 12 being trained to further gender identity politics

The toxic ideology of Gender Identity politics has been silently creeping into India. Away from the public eye, activists have been working silently to brainwash children into the ideology. OpIndia, in a series of reports, has highlighted the manner in which the ideology irreparably harms children and after we raised the issue, a certain media outlet has taken upon itself the mantle of serving as their propaganda tool.

In this report, we will focus on another manner in which our children are being indoctrinated into the toxic ideology. It has come to our notice that in a particular school, and it is again the same school, the Tagore International School at Vasant Vihar, where children were introduced to a ‘Drag Queen Story Hour’.

Drag Queens are often gay men or cross-dressers or transgender men who dress up in female clothing exaggerating female features for entertainment purposes. They often wear a lot of make-up and the whole thing is heavily sexual, although it does not always have to be that way. The identifying feature is often the heavy usage of make-up and until the advent of gender identity politics, drag queen performances have been reserved for adult audiences.

Quite clearly, due to obvious reasons, local cultural factors influence the expression and attire of Drag Queens in India and hence, Drag Queen Story Hours in India differ from the same in the West. However, the ideology that such conduct represents is extremely toxic and, as we have seen in the West, has the potential to wreck societies.

Furthermore, it also needs to be borne in mind that the Desmond is Amazing, a child in his adolescence currently, danced at a gay nightclub dressed as a Drag Artist while adult gay men threw money at him some years ago. It also needs to be borne in mind that the incident was largely ignored by the activists. Under such circumstances, we need to be extremely wary of such am ideology being imported to India.

As it so happens, it is not only in Tagore International School at Delhi that such a Drag Queen Story Hour has been conducted. The Keshav Suri Foundation organised the same at the Canadian International School Bangalore. It helped conduct a session with the school’s students where a Drag Queen called Maya addressed students last year.

With regards to the objective of these story hours, past news reports in the media regarding the same confirms our conclusions. One Drag Queen who has addressed children in one of these story hours told Times of India, “We didn’t have to lecture them — that they got to see people dressed in clothes not ascribed to their gender was itself a break in their understanding of gender and a way to take the shock value away.”

The same TOI report also mentions that Tagore International School launched the Breaking Barriers Campaign which tied up with Nazariya QFRG, the same organisation that advertised a colouring back to students with nude women wearing dildos and masturbating, to train 30-35 ‘volunteers’ every year from classes 9 to 12. These volunteers then make presentations for students in other grades.

Furthermore, the Canada Embassy in India has also partnered with Keshav Suri Foundation in the latter’s bid to mainstream gender identity politics in our country. Keshav Suri is an Executive Director at The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group which has organised Drag Queen Story Hour sessions in Kolkata as well.

Canada Embassy in India confirms its partnership with KSF

Thus, it is evident that widespread efforts to mainstream gender identity politics in India is currently underway, away from the public eye. Like it was in the West, if current trends hold, the sheer harm it poses will only be evident when it is too late. We have documented the harm that gender identity politics causes to children in our article here.

Furthermore, the growing influence of organisations such as Nazariya QFRG among our children is cause for extreme concern as their form of activism is particularly toxic. Thus, while there is still time, it is of paramount importance that governments step in to nip the menace in the bud.

Srinagar: President of Anjuman-e-Islamia arrested for flouting social distancing norms and delivering provocative and seditious speech

On Saturday, the Bhaderwah police in Jammu and Kashmir reportedly booked one Pervaiz Ahmed Sheikh for making a ‘seditious’ and ‘provocative’ speech at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar and flouting orders of the district magistrate by organising Friday prayers.

Sheikh is the President of Anjuman-e-Islamia in Bhaderwah. Reportedly, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against him at the Bhaderwah Police Station under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 124 A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 188 (disobedience), 505 B (statements conducing to public mischief) and Epidemic Disease Act.

As per the report, an investigating officer said that the speech of Pervaiz Ahmed Sheikh was deliberate and intended to create rift and disharmony in society. Reportedly, the case is being investigated by senior officers of the Bhaderwah police station.

Muslims flout lockdown amidst pandemic

Owing to the Coronavirus pandemic, several areas in the country have been under temporary lockdown. Mass gatherings and mass-prayers in Mosques, like all religious places, have been restricted. In several states, local authorities are in constant touch with Mosque clerics and Imams to create awareness among the Muslim community over the pandemic. Amidst the lockdown in March, Muslims reportedly gathered in large numbers across the country to offer the Friday Mass prayer. Earlier, a video emerged where Karnataka police were seen thrashing people as they left the Mosque after Namaz, and were violating the lockdown. In the video, a group of Muslims could be seen coming out of the Mosque after offering Namaz. At that point, the police took action against the congregation in the bid to disperse the crowd that was violating the lockdown.

‘PM Modi demonetised notes overnight, he should bring Coronavirus vaccine overnight too if he has guts’: former Bihar Health Minister Tej Pratap Yadav

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav is back in the news again. On Thursday, he took to Instagram to make bizarre analogies and allegations in light of the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic.

Three minutes into his rant in the video, Yadav claimed that the State government in Bihar has failed to contain the spread of the deadly virus. To substantiate his claims, the former Health Minister of Bihar alleged that the incumbent Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been diagnosed with Coronavirus. “Nitish Kumar ji ko bhi Corona ho chuka hai. Vo bhi quarantine centre may jai (Nitish Kumar has contracted Conronavirus. He is also in a quarantine centre),” Tej Pratap Yadav said. Later in the video, he reiterated the same claim and alleged that it was the very reason why Nitish Kumar has chosen to stay indoors and not amongst common citizens, unlike his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav.

Tej Pratap Yadav then went on to make a false equivalence between scientific research and policy decision. He said, “Narendra Modi said that vaccine for Coronavirus will be available from August 15. Why should it be available on such a later date? A lot of people are dying… I want to tell you that people are dying every minute in Bihar.” The former Health Minister then went on to draw parallels between demonetisation and Coronavirus vaccine.

“Launch the vaccine tonight… Yes, launch it tonight. If you can demonetise currency overnight, then, you can launch the vaccine too,” he remarked. He then went on an uninterrupted rant on demonetisation and added that the vaccine should have been made available earlier, in complete disregard for the efforts of scientists. “Aap laiye vaccine, hum mana kar rahe hai kya ki aap mat laiye.. Aap aaj raat mein laiye vaccine agar aap mein daam hai (Am I stopping you from making the vaccine available ? Launch it tonight if you have the guts)”, Tej Pratap Yadav reiterated.

In a startling claim, he claimed that all doctors and nurses have contracted Coronavirus and there is none to treat the frontline workers. Tej Pratap Yadav said, “They have been made to rest in beds, outside the hospital. They have nothing to eat or medicines to get treated. What are you (Nitish Kumar) doing? You are sleeping because you have Coronavirus.”

Shocking remarks by Tej Pratap Yadav

This is not the first time when the erstwhile Health Minister of Bihar has made comments that have taken people by shock. Earlier, Without taking names, he chad ompared journalist Arnab Goswami to a “virus” and the cops’ interrogation to the “vaccine”. He thus expressed his support for the targeted harassment of a journalist at the hands of law enforcement.

While addressing a gathering in Vaishali in February, Yadav equated Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to ‘Kansa’ and asserted that he will be ‘killed’ in 2020. Tej Pratap Yadav claimed that Kumar is a “Kansa” who will be killed in a “Ras Leela”. Last year, he compared himself and his brother Tejashwi to Lord Krishna and Arjuna respectively. He said that whoever would try to come between him and his brother would be slain by the Sudarshan Chakra (Lord Krishna’s weapon).

Was Rahul Gandhi the first to come up with the concept of ‘One District, One Product’: Here is the truth

With Rahul Gandhi evidently having no stellar contribution to his name in the field of Indian politics and policymaking, the former Congress president today attempted to steal the thunder of the BJP government by crediting himself for the implementation of “One district one product” scheme by the central government.

Sharing an article regarding a survey that is currently underway for “one district one product” scheme, Rahul Gandhi lauded the idea in a tweet and boasted that it was his suggestion which he made “some time back”.

“This is a good idea. I had suggested it some time back. Its implementation will need a complete change of mindset,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

What is “One District One Product”?

The article shared by Rahul Gandhi says that the Industries Department is conducting a baseline survey in all districts to ascertain one district, one product for the Centrally-sponsored Micro and Small Enterprises Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP).

Under “One District One Product (ODOP), the government aims to generate employment, increase productivity, build capacity, impart skills, enhance market viability for farmers among other things. As per the scheme, once the product is identified, the government provides the necessary support for manufacturing/producing the product so as to ensure a better market price for the product.

BJP govts in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat already implemented “One District One Product”

Although it is true that Rahul Gandhi had talked about the idea of “One District One Product” in February 2017, and he patted himself for coming up with the idea, similar ideas were proposed by others before him. The former chief minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel had already talked about the concept one year before him. In a tweet in February 2016, she had mentioned the concept of ‘One Village, One Product’ would be initiated on a pilot basis to preserve languishing crafts through focused approach and support.

In the BJP’s manifesto for UP assembly elections in 2017, a similar idea was mentioned. The Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra, which was released on 29th January in 2017, few days before Rahul Gandhi mentioned the idea, promised to focus on one local product or business in every district. Although the manifesto didn’t mention the slogan ‘one district one product’, the concept is almost identical.

According to the Sankalp Patra, UP government has already started the One District One Product scheme to provide employment to youth in the state. CM Yogi Adityanath launched the ambitious project of “One District One Product” in Uttar Pradesh in January 2018 with the stated goal of “encouraging indigenous and specialized products and crafts in UP that are found nowhere else – like the ancient and nutritious ‘Kala Namak’ rice, the rare and intriguing wheat-stalk craft, world-famous chikankari and zari-zardozi work on clothes, and the intricate and stunning horn-bone work that uses the remains of dead animals rather than live ones, a nature-friendly replacement for ivory”.

With this scheme, Yogi Adityanath government had expected to generate 5 lakh jobs. The scheme is still being implemented in Uttar Pradesh and is targeted at providing artisans and craftsmen in the culturally rich and diverse state a profitable alternative towards preserving their heritage.

Globally, One district (or similar administrative area) one product projects are being implemented in several countries for several years. It is believed that the idea was pioneered in Japan, where One Village One Product movement was started in 1979. Since then, similar projects have been implemented in many countries, including Afghanistan, Bhutan, Thailand, Malaysia etc.

The Quint defends LGBT activists who exposed children to sexual imagery, advertised colouring book with nude women masturbating to students

OpIndia has been raising the issue of the indoctrination of children into the toxic ideology of Gender Identity Politics. As expected, certain quarters are not pleased with us raising the matter in the public eye. One of them is the far-left propagandist portal The Quint. In a report which was intended to be a rebuttal to ours, The Quint deliberately whitewashed the brainwashing of the children and attempted to downplay the whole matter.

In its report, The Quint quotes one homosexual teenager to present these toxic organisations in good light and misrepresents the OpIndia reports completely. While OpIndia was speaking of the toxic ideology of gender identity politics, The Quint attempted to turn it into an issue of sexual orientation, which is completely different issues entirely.

A homosexual is an individual who is attracted to someone of the same sex, gender identity is something else entirely as we had elaborated at great length in our article here. Gender Identity overlords posit that gender identity of an individual is completely independent of biological sex and a man with the genitalia of a biological man can be a woman and vice versa based merely on subjective feelings alone.

Not once in their report does The Quint mention the fact that the Nazariya QFRG advertised a colouring book for students with pictures of nude women wearing a dildo and masturbating in it. The sole reason for it is because The Quint is fully aware that the public at large will not take kindly to children being exposed to such nudity. Therefore, The Quint deliberately glosses over the fact.

The Quint also does not touch upon the various horror stories involving Gender Identity politics because it is fully aware that the public at large will be extremely uncomfortable with the turn of events. As is clear, the objective of The Quint was to serve as propagandists for the Gender Identity overlords and portraying the facts accurately will be detrimental to their interests.

“People, especially youngsters, are fairly clear about who they are, what they are, how their bodies and hearts are responding. What is critical for us is to come to terms and learn to value ourselves. Only if we value ourselves are we going to learn to protect ourselves and make the right choice,” Anjali Gopalan of the Naz Foundation is quoted as saying.

What Gopalan does not say, deliberately one would presume, is whether children as young as 10-year old are mature enough to make the decision regarding undergoing hormone therapy to block the normal development of their puberty. What she does not say is whether we should adolescents should be permitted to take puberty blockers to, often permanently, change their gender at that young an age. Such comments in response to OpIndia reports on the matter could only ever be interpreted as an endorsement for such gravely harmful medical procedures for children.

The Quint also quotes one Dr V Sam Prasad, country program director of AIDS healthcare Foundation, who apparently ‘slammed’ the OpIndia reports. It is unclear whether the subject in question is even under domain expertise of the quoted doctor. Furthermore, the totalitarian manner in which the ideology is enforced renders subject matter experts in the said domain quite meaningless. It is equivalent to China claiming that it had nothing to do with the outbreak of the Wuhan Coronavirus.

The quoted doctor, said, “We are the second populous and the youngest country in the world. It is very sad that people don’t understand the LGBTQIA+ community issues and challenges and how and why ONE CANNOT BE indoctrinated into it. Such statements only add to the stigma and discrimination prevailing on these already marginalised communities. No one becomes a member of the LGBTQIA+ community because you are talking about gender and sexuality.”

The doctor’s remarks that indoctrination into the ideology does not lead one to identify with the community is patently false. Lisa Littman, an American Academic, established in a study that ‘socially-awkward’ girls self-identified as transgender after being drawn together in chat rooms where they reinforced each other’s beliefs about their identity and were drawn towards identifying as a transgender. She was ostracised by the academia for observing this particular trend.

Furthermore, journalist Abigail Shrier authored a book titled ‘Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters’ wherein she documented the horrific impact such politics has on our children. She also makes it very clear that teenage girls, who do not necessarily suffer from gender dysphoria, come to believe that they are ‘trapped in the wrong body’, as a consequence of which they undergo medical procedures that at least some of them come to regret later and others have their lives turned upside down. She also documented the rising concern among parents.

The Quint touches none of these issues because these are difficult questions that require answering. Instead, they provide a platform for such entities to defend themselves and spread their propaganda further. Furthermore, the propagandists at The Quint quote children and former students who provide extremely generalised feel good answers to completely walk over the topic without addressing the core issues that Opindia had raised. But then again, that appears to have been the objective from the very beginning.

The failure on the part of The Quint and even refusal to mention the concerns Opindia had raised could only mean that the media outlet does not find anything ostensibly wrong with what the LGBT activists had shown children. Thus, The Quint appears to endorse Nazariya QFRG showing a man with enlarged breasts breastfeeding his baby. Furthermore, it also appears to endorse the use of puberty blockers by children to alter their gender irrevocably and permanently alter the normal course of their development based purely on the subjective feelings of a 10-year old and adolescents.

Jodhpur: Irrfan and Nadeem Khan among 4 arrested for abusing Hindu Gods and Goddesses; Court rejects their bail application

A Jodhpur court has rejected the bail application of 4 individuals booked on the charges of abusing Hindu Gods and Goddesses. The case pertains to a mob of about 30-40 Muslim miscreants who had congregated at Maderna square in Jodhpur on July 13 and hurled invectives against the Hindu Gods and Goddesses.

Police have arrested four accused in the case, including Nadeem Khan and Irrfan Khan. While presenting the bail letter in the court, both the accused had pleaded innocence and alleged that the case was related to minor squabbling. Dr Manoj Joshi, the presiding officer of the Jodhpur ADJ Court, after hearing the case, dismissed their bail plea and refused to grant them bail.

The case was filed at Maha Mandir police station by the complainant Mukesh Kumar, who in his complaint alleged that a mob of 30-40 Muslim hoodlums, armed with batons and sticks, tore up a billboard of a Hindu God at Shri Ram Chowk in Maderna colony, Jodhpur. Kumar had also alleged that the Muslim youth in the mob fiercely abused Hindu Gods and Goddesses and thrashed people present at the spot. The incident happened near Maderna Government School and since then the situation is tensed in the area.

Talking to OpIndia, the station house officer at Maha Mandir Police Station, Sumer Dan Charan, said that 30-40 people had gathered at the Maderna square in Jodhpur and started creating ruckus there. The police officer added that the mob were mouthing off abuses against Hindu Gods and Goddesses and some of them even tore up a billboard of Shri Ram installed at the square. In addition to this, he informed that while 4 have been arrested, a search is underway to identify and nab other 20-30 members of the mob who had also promoted enmity between the religions by abusing Hindu Gods and Goddesses and brazenly indulged in vandalism.

Initially, it was reported that two groups had a violent brawl near Kalka Mata Mandir Road and Government School in Maderna. Members of the Muslim community were accused of abusing and assaulting the locals. Outraged by the atrocities of the Muslim mob, some Hindu youths also gathered and squared up with them. Violent clashes took place between the two sides.

It is also being reported that stone pelting was also witnessed in the region. Vehicles parked on the curbside as well as electric meters installed outside many houses were also damaged. The police reached the spot and after checking the CCTV footage, identified and detained many of the miscreants. The Station In-charge reached the spot with the police force and controlled the spiralling situation, assuring the people that strict action will be taken against the culprits.

Kerala HC says section 153A cannot be invoked against Hindu leader who wrote about a ‘Church film set’ demolished inside a Temple area: Here are details

In a significant observation, the Kerala High Court has ordered that merely inciting the feelings of one community or group without any reference to any other community or group cannot attract the provisions of section 153A of Indian Penal Code.

According to the reports, granting anticipatory bail to some of the accused involved in the alleged demolition of a film set constructed depicting a Church at the precincts of the Mahadeva Temple at Kalady, Justice Menon observed that real intention to incite one group or community against another is absolutely essential to register a case under Section 153A of IPC.

“Real intention to incite one group or community against another is absolutely essential. It is necessary that at least two groups or communities should be involved. Merely inciting the feelings of one community or group without any reference to any other community or group cannot attract the provisions of S.153A IPC,” the Kerala High Court observed.

The IPC section 153A punishes persons who indulge in wanton vilification or attacks upon the religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc of any particular group or class or upon the founders and prophets of a religion.

On May 24, a film set of a Malayalam movie ‘Minnal Murali’ was allegedly vandalized by some miscreants in Kalady, Ernakulam. The filmmakers had constructed a set depicting the church near the Mahadeva temple near Kalady riverbanks. A group of miscreants had allegedly demolished the church accusing the filmmakers of constructing it without permission.

The filmmakers had alleged that some members of Rashtriya Bajrang Dal’s Ernakulam unit, an offshoot of Antarashtriya Hindu Parishad (AHP), was behind the incident.

The Kerala High Court was hearing a petition filed against one individual named Pradeep RS, the General Secretary of Antharashtra Hindu Parishad (AHP). Reportedly, Pradeep had published a post on his Facebook page after the incident admitting his role in the act of demolition by the members of his organisation and justified it.

In his bail petition, Pradeep had contended that he was innocent and was not even present at the spot during the incident. He had further asserted that his Facebook post did not in any way promote enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion as no other religion has been referred to in the post.

However, Kerala government opposed the bail plea of the Hindu leader claiming that the intention of the accused was to ‘poison the minds of Hindus of the locality against the Christians’ stating that a Church or something resembling a Church had come up in the precincts of Mahadeva temple, which may probably be permanently snatched away by the members of the other religion.

While considering the bail application, the Kerala High Court made comments on the maintainability of offences under Sections 153-A and 454 IPC to point out that the comments made by the accused only refers to the Mahadeva temple and not permitting such activities of construction within the precincts of the temple.

The court added, “Therefore, prima facie, the offence punishable under S.153-A is not attracted to the facts of the case. (See also Bijumon v. State of Kerala 2018 (4) KHC 73.) At best, the Facebook post would amount to an admission regarding the involvement of the 1st accused as the President of the Ernakulam Division of Bajrang Dal and his supporters.”

The High Court also noted the contention of the Hindu leader that the film set is not a house or a place of worship to attract the ingredients of “House-trespass” under Section 442 IPC.

“A reading of the aforesaid provision and in particular the expression “in building used as a place for custody of property”, I am of the view that a film set, though a temporary structure, was being used as a place for custody of property like generator, etc; which was allegedly stolen. Since the definition also includes a tent, and does not state that it should be a permanent structure, even a temporary film set would fall within the definition of a house which in this case, can be said to be a structure used for custody of property. Hence, I have no doubts about Section 454 getting attracted in this case,” observed Justice Ashok Menon.

National Herald publishes an elaborate meltdown, claims ‘large population of Muslims is vegetarian’ and numerous other ridiculous fantasies

The National Herald on Saturday published what could only ever be described as an elaborate meltdown. The headline itself gives one the distinct impression that the author was not in her right mind when she wrote the article. The main body of the article makes it quite clear that the editor of the Congress mouthpiece was not in his or her right mind either.

The article headlined, ‘Eid-ul-Adha and misconception about Muslims being meat-eaters propagated by right-wing in India’, attempts to fear-monger about the rightwing allegedly demonising the Muslim community due to its dietary preferences. It also attempts to portray the Muslim community as one that does not consume too much meat comparatively. But through its course, the author rambles on about a multitude of inanities due to which the already ridiculous point is lost on the reader for good.

Article on National Herald about Bakra Eid
Article on National Herald about Bakra Eid

The author Humra Quraishi boldly declares, “Muslims in India are not the biggest buyers or exporters of meat and a large population of Muslims is vegetarian.” While the second part of the statement appears entirely preposterous, no credible statistic was presented to back the first half of it either.

What the author tried to pass off as valid statistics to back her claim was that, apparently, four of the six biggest Indian exporters of meat are non-Muslims. The author did not even bother to present evidence for her claim that Muslims do not, per capita, buy more meat than non-Muslims. It might very well be the case by some weird twist of fate but “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence” and no evidence was presented as such. But then again, the entire article was one great meltdown, meltdowns do not bother themselves with observable realities.

One of the most hilarious bits of the article comes at the initial stages when Quraishi says, “Mind you, this propaganda that all Muslims go about with big fat botis tucked in rotis, has been gaining ground, portraying them as modern day ‘adamkhors’ (cannibals)!” It appears to depict some plot-line from a Ram Gopal Varma horror movie or some melodramatic horror that liberals engaging in their kitty parties. Such deluded dystopian fantasies are not things that one expects to read in the mouthpiece of the country’s largest opposition party. But here we are.

The article also mentions an incident that makes an immediate entry into the Hall of Fame of ‘Top 10 things that never happened’. The author writes, “The ‘beef scare’ has also impacted the socio- cultural patterns. When I asked a middle class Muslim family why no meat dish was served in their son’s wedding celebrations, I was told, “Who will prove to Hindutva brigades that its not beef but mutton and chicken! We didn’t want these goons to disrupt the shaadi, so only vegetarian food was served! What to do …we have to live like this, with the new circumstances spreading out in the country!”” There are more chances of the Bhumi Pujan of Ram Mandir being postponed indefinitely by one of Saket Gokhale’s petitions than of this story being a truthful account of events.

In another comical instance, Quraishi writes in the article, “And much against the hyped propaganda against the Muslim community that they consume only non- vegetarian food, let me focus on the fact that the significance and importance of fruits, vegetables, herbs has been highlighted in the Quran and also in the Hadith.”

She adds, “In fact, I have before me two books written by the Lucknow based botanist, Dr M.I.H. Farooqi. The very titles of these two books — ‘Plants of The Quran’ and ‘Medicinal Plants In The Traditions of Prophet Muhammad’ (Sidrah Publishers) — relay the significance of plants, herbs, fruits, grains, spices and vegetables in our daily intake.”

One is unsure of how to accurately respond to this. Hardly anyone could ever argue that Muslims do not eat any vegetables or spices or herbs at all. One is not entirely sure if such a claim has ever been made even. At this point, it is more than evident that the author is having an epic meltdown and it is quite astonishing that the editor of National Herald actually published this.

The author then lies outright in her article. She says, “If you recall over three summers back, sixteen year old Mohammad Junaid was murdered by fellow passengers, right inside a train compartment of the train taking him and his brothers to their home in a village in Haryana’s Ballabhgarh, with ‘beef -eater’ taunts thrown on his fractured skull, with a skull cap atop it.”

The Judiciary itself stated that there was nothing communal about the murder. Investigation by the Police into the matter also revealed that neither the accused nor the complainant spoke about beef and it was revealed that the fight broke out over seat sharing. The Judiciary also observed that the murder was not pre-planned and it had nothing to do with beef. But Quraishi, in her obvious delirious state, brings it up anyway.

Furthermore, since we are living in the age of the Coronavirus, it is quite obvious that a reference to it has to be made. Qureshi, towards the end, says, “Today, with hundreds sitting all too deprived and hungry, there is every possibility of hunger and malnutrition related deaths going up the graph. Also, with poverty and unemployment levels mounting, many more could be affected by the rising social disorders.”

At this point, the reader stops expecting the article to make any sense and even towards the end, the article does not make any and thus, the reader is not disappointed. It is not clear how exactly these claims relate to her initial claim that the rightwing was on a campaign to demonise Muslims ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.

The only rational explanation here is that National Herald published this garbage of an article in order to give readers the pretence that the future of the Congress party looks far more promising than the editorial standards of its mouthpiece. In that particular endeavour, the National Herald succeeds quite brilliantly and exceeds all expectations.
