Gujarat: Man who had impersonated as a govt employee and hurled shoe at minister appointed as vice president of state unit by AAP

The Aam Aadmi Party has appointed controversial leader Gopal Italia as the vice-president of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Gujarat unit. The 31-year-old leader, who has various criminal cases against him, had joined the party recently.

According to the reports, Gopal Italia, who was earlier associated with Hardik Patel’s Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), had joined Aam Aadmi recently in the virtual presence of senior national party leader and minister in Delhi government, Gopal Rai.

The controversial leader had claimed that he had joined the AAP as it was a party of educated leaders.

“Only an educated leadership can give a new direction to the political system. I want the AAP’s vision of governance that has been implemented in Delhi, to be implemented in Gujarat. It is a vision where quality education and health amenities are available to people free of cost. I also have a vision of a corruption-free system. I want people to elect a government on the basis of such basic issues. And to achieve those goals, I have joined the AAP,” said Italia.

Cases against Italia

Gopal Italia came to limelight in 2017 after he had impersonated as a government employee and called up Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel to complain about the inefficient prohibition law in the state.

The phone call had become viral on social media, following which Italia also faced a criminal case of impersonation. During the call, he had identified himself as an LRD jawan by mistake.

Again in 2017, he had stoked a massive controversy after he had hurled a shoe at Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja, accusing him of corruption in Gujarat. The incident had occurred outside the Gujarat assembly where Jadeja was about to address media persons. Following the incident, Italia, who was a clerk in the revenue department was dismissed from service for violation of service rules.

Later, Italia who is known to be vocal against both BJP and the Congress, joined the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), a social organisation, led by Hardik Patel and worked with it for next two years.

Gopal Italia is also facing a number of criminal cases against him in Gujarat. However, he maintains that all the cases are political in nature.

After joining AAP, Gopal Italia had said, “I am proud to have chosen the AAP. We will create our own unique identity instead of going for a ready made identity (of two established political parties in Gujarat). I have chosen a path of struggle.”

Italia also added that AAP was planning big for the upcoming by-elections to eight assembly seats and general elections of local bodies, scheduled to be held later this year. He claimed that the AAP will give a model where educated youth will get maximum chance and platform for good governance-oriented politics.

Meet Malik Shani Awan, the Pakistani youth who demolished wall of temple in Islamabad. ‘Allah wishes, I will not let a temple be constructed here,’ he says

Hindus in Islamabad, Pakistan have decided to halt the construction of what was to be the first Hindu Temple in the city in decades after the boundary wall was demolished by Islamic extremists. Hardline extremists had been opposing the construction of the Temple and eventually, some of them took the matter in their own hands.

As it turns out, one of the individuals who demolished the boundary wall went so far as to record the whole thing and post the video on Facebook. He was quite obviously proud of his actions and demonstrated remarkable religious intolerance, as has been the hallmark of Islamic extremists, while engaging in the vile act of barbarism. He has been identified as one Malik Shani Awan.

Malik Shani Awan invoked the name of Allah while demolishing the boundary wall of the Temple to Shri Krishna that was to be constructed. For greater effect, he added music to the whole thing to make the video more entertaining. The lyrics of the song said something along the lines of “I have not let my children suffer… I am Pakistan.”

His Facebook profile says that he is from Islamabad but lives in Rawalpindi. Malik Shani Awan claims to work for a Pakistani news channel, 99News. In another post, he even expressed his gratitude towards fellow Pakistanis who were overwhelmingly supportive of his actions.

Malik Shani Awan also posted a video after he reached the spot with his friends. He expressed his gratitude towards Allah for stopping the construction of the said Temple. The video was shot before he began razing the Temple.

His Facebook profile is littered with posts demanding that the constructed of the Temple be stopped. From his profile, it appears obvious that Malik Shani Awan is a highly radicalised individual but judging from the great support he has received on the platform, it appears that such radical views and opinions are the norm and not an exception in the Islamic State of Pakistan.

Yesterday, he had vowed that he will never let a temple be constructed there.

The construction of the Temple has faced stiff opposition from Muslims in Pakistan ever since Hindus declared their intent of building their place of worship. The Pakistani Government had declared that it will consult the Islamic Ideology Council on the matter and proceeded to halt the construction of the Temple citing legal reasons.

There are also other Hinduphobic and Hindu-hating posts on his Facebook post where Lord Hanuman is referred to as ‘bandar’.

on 2nd July, he had urged true Muslims to prove their Muslimness by not letting a temple be constructed there.

Atrocities on religious minorities in Pakistan

Pakistani Hindus suffer greatly at the hands of their Muslim tormentors in Pakistan. It is far too common for Muslims to abduct Hindu women and marry them off after forcefully converting them to Islam. Even the Courts and governments provide no respite to the beleaguered Hindus as these forced marriages are legitimised by Courts, to the great distress of parents who have nowhere to seek remedy.

Britain makes CAA like offer to HongKongers persecuted by China

China is an authoritarian state where everyone lives in constant fear of the government. Some groups more than others. These would be the people of Hong Kong (who know what democracy feels like), the people of Tibet (who are mostly Buddhist) and the Uighur people (who are mostly Muslim).

This week, the British government made a choice. They would extend a helping hand to the besieged Hong Kongers by offering them UK citizenship.

UK made citizenship offer to Hong Kongers

The terms offered are extremely favorable. The residents of Hong Kong would immediately be welcome to live and work in the UK. After a period of five years, they would be eligible to apply for citizenship.

The British government explained its reasoning thus:

This is a special, bespoke, set of arrangements developed for the unique circumstances we face and in light of our historic commitment to the people of Hong Kong.

As an Indian who has witnessed the absurdity of the recent anti-CAA protests, I am not sure I understand. A special bespoke set of arrangements made by a country to help a group of people towards whom they feel a historic commitment?

I’m sorry. I thought modern democratic countries are not allowed to do that. Why does Britain feel a commitment to the people Hong Kong but not to every group of persecuted people everywhere? For example, what about the Uzbek minority facing persecution in Kyrghystan? Why is the British govt being so anti-Uzbek? Is a wave of anti-Uzbek sentiment sweeping the UK?

Is the UK creating two classes of citizens? Has this new UK citizenship policy reduced British citizens of Uzbek descent into second class citizens in their own country? Now, that’s disturbing.

And what about the heavily persecuted, mostly Muslim, Uighur minority in China? Why no UK citizenship for them? That’s Islamophobia! Does anybody in the UK know about Faiz’s famous poem dehumanizing idol worshipers? Better sing that quickly so that dignity of all people can be restored.

Of course I am being sarcastic. Because I understand. The UK can do what it wants. We the brown people of India, especially Hindus, do not have a right to feel historic commitments and moral obligations to anyone. The global elite will decide for us.

So the UK can flaunt its colonial history and show off its generosity to its former subjects in Hong Kong. If we point out that we have a several thousand year old connection to Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs and Jains across the Indian subcontinent, then we are Nazis.

For over a year now, we have been struggling to explain a simple principle of self-determination to the world. Like every other country, the people of India can choose who to give asylum in our country. This will be determined by historic and cultural connections as well as diplomatic and strategic interests of the Govt of India. While we can feel sympathy for persecuted people anywhere, we absolutely do have a sovereign right to give preference to those with a deep historic connection to the land of Bharat and its ancient culture.

The British today are extending a helping hand today because China has broken the commitments it made to the UK as well as the people of Hong Kong when the city state was returned to China in 1997. Could anybody argue that Pakistan has actually kept its commitments under the Nehru-Liaquat pact of 1950?

Now there will be apologists who will say the UK isn’t applying a religious test to their new citizenship measure towards Hong Kong. Well, of course not. Because the persecution that Hong Kong faces has nothing to do with religion. On the other hand, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain minorities in Pakistan face persecution precisely because of their religion.

And they ask: What about Ahmadiya and Shia Muslims in Pakistan, for instance? Again, let us repeat the most fundamental point. Just because a law does not contain special provisions for every conceivable disadvantaged group does not make it discriminatory.

In fact, India’s own National Commission for minorities has a list of six specific religious groups that are considered minorities: Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis and Jains. Why only these six? Why not other religions such as Judaism or Confucianism or Taoism? But very few would argue that the Indian state is anti-Jewish because our government does not recognize them as a minority group. In fact, even Jains were not included as a religious minority until the last days of the UPA govt in early 2014. Do you remember large scale street protests condemning the UPA govt for being anti-Jain and/or anti-Jewish?

Because at the time, people had a common sense understanding of two basic principles:

(1) Making special arrangements for one group of disadvantaged people is not “discriminatory” simply because there aren’t measures for every other disadvantaged group of people everywhere else on the planet.

(2) A sovereign country can decide its asylum laws based on its history, culture, diplomatic and strategic interests.

The entire free world accepts these principles. Britain is just the latest example of this. Which is why nobody is protesting their common sense humanitarian decision to help the people of Hong Kong.

Even the anti-CAA crowd understands these principles. But like someone who is pretending to be asleep, we cannot wake them up. It is for the rest of us to understand that the anti-CAA protests (riots) had nothing to do with secularism or humanity. The protests (riots) were about a naked anti-Hindu agenda. That’s all there was to them. Period.

In a viral clip from 2002, Field Marshal Sam Maneckshaw says how Pakistanis hailed professionalism of Indian Armed Forces: Watch video

An old video of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, one of India’s greatest war heroes, has gone viral on the internet in which he narrates how the Pakistani Prisoner of Wars of the 1971 India-Pakistan war had hailed the professionalism of the Indian Army following Indian victory in the war that liberated Bangladesh from Pakistan.

Speaking at an interview in 2002, Field Marshal Manekshaw revealed how he was royally welcomed in Pakistan after the 1971 India-Pakistan war and treated him with respect for the professionalism Indian Army had displayed during the Bangladesh Liberation war.

Sharing an anecdote, Sam Jamshedji Manekshaw recalled about an incident in Lahore at Governor’s House when the Governor of the Punjab province had asked him for a favour. The former Chief of Indian Army added that the Governor wanted him to meet the staff and shake hands with them, who were all waiting out for the Indian war hero.

“They were all lined up. The 11th man took the turban off and put it at my feet. So I picked it up and gave it to him, asking why did you (Pakistani staffer) do this?” said Field Marshal Manekshaw in his interview.

The Retired General said that a Pakistani staffer revealed how the Indian general had saved his family. The Pakistani staffer at the Governor’s residence said that five of his sons were PoWs of the 1971 war, who were treated with a lot of respect despite being Pakistani soldiers.

According to the staffer, as narrated by Sam Manekshaw, the Pakistan PoWs were given Quran to read, made to sleep on cots in barracks, broke bread with fellow Indian soldiers.

“We will never believe Hindus are bad,” the Pakistan staffer at the Governor’s house said to Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in reaction to the professionalism displayed by the Indian Forces in the 1971 India-Pakistan despite fighting a rogue army like Pakistan.

In the interview, the former COAS also said how he had to face severe problems back in the country following his visit to Pakistan. He added that the bureaucrats, ministers complained against him stating that he treated Pakistani soldiers just like he treated his sons-in-law. Even, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had called for a cabinet meeting to the issue.

Field Marshal Manekshaw said that he explained to Mrs Gandhi, stating that they were soldiers, who ‘fought and fought extremely well and lost’.

Ahead of the release of Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak 2, clips of him praising Islamist preacher Zakir Naik goes viral

Director Mahesh Bhatt has recently been the subject of social media backlash after several videos of him praising hate preacher and fugitive Zakir Naik surfaced online, ahead of the scheduled release of his new film ‘Sadak 2’ on July 10. In one such video, Bhatt can be seen singing praises for the radical Islamist after he was denied entry into the United Kingdom by the government in 2010.

“At the onset, let me salute Dr. Zakir Naik for daring to lock horns with the mighty British Empire… I salute his audacity which comes from his Imaan… If he had any grey spot in his heart, he wouldn’t have risked locking horns with these bullies… The world is becoming the most entertained and the least informed one… We, as Indians, owe it to our brother (Zakir Naik) who is national pride, (and) a prized treasure,” Bhatt was heard as saying.

He then went on a hysterical rant against the United States, United Kingdom (UK), and other Western powers and drew irrelevant analogies with the Persian Gulf War to substantiate his claim that Naik should have been allowed to preach in the UK. “They call Dr. Naik the warmonger but history knows who is the warmonger”, the director advocated.

He added, “Are you going to believe in the opinions of those people who have the means to lie, buy wordsmiths, get newspapers, have TV networks by their side to market lies and hang a man like Dr. Naik? I will say No.” Bhatt urged the Indian government to intervene, stand up for Zakir Naik and plead his case.

Bhatt wanted to make a movie on the hate preacher

Mahesh Bhatt was invited as a guest on Zakir Naik’s Peace TV, recently fined £300,000 (around Rs 2.75 crore) for broadcasting hate speech, to address a group of Muslims. On being asked whether he would feature the hate preacher in his films, Bhatt stated, “The life of Zakir Saheb is a fascinating story in itself. It contains material for a feature film. I don’t know whether Zakir Naik will want to play the role of a hero in the movie. We can find someone to play his role, provided he gives me permission to do so. Please get the idea approved from him and then only I can make a film.”

Speeches of Zakir Naik inspired extremists

In a shocking revelation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) last year, most of the 127-odd terrorists arrested by security agencies in India for suspected ISIS links were inspired by the speeches of radical Islamic preacher Zakir Naik. According to reports, National Investigation Agency director YC Modi speaking at a conference of anti-terror teams said that terrorists and their sympathisers who had joined ISIS were inspired by speeches made by Zakir Naik. He further outlined the emerging terror challenges before the country at the conference of top police officers. He also highlighted that the Bangladesh-based terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) had expanded its footprints in Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.

It may be noted that David Coleman Headley, an accused in the Mumbai terror attack case, was reportedly close associate of Rahul Bhatt, Mahesh Bhatt’s son. As per reports, a day prior to the deadly Mumbai attack in 2008, Headley had warned Bhatt and asked him not to go to South Mumbai on 26th November, 2008, the day of the attack.

Internal rift erupts in Hurriyat Conference over succession after former chief Geelani accuses others of corruption

The unanticipated resignation of hardline Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani a few days back as “chairperson for life” of the All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has opened a can of worms for the pro-Pakistan organisation as questions are now being raised within the APHC about a medical seat racket in Pakistan managed by few members of Hurriyat, reports Indian Express.

In his resignation letter, the 90-year-old former Hurriyat leader had accused Hurriyat representatives of corruption and cosying up to power structures in Pakistan. Interestingly, the recent allegations against few members of Hurriyat come from Geelani, who himself was considered as the face of Pakistan in the Kashmir valley.

Geelani’s reference to an “internal investigation” is linked to this issue of Hurriyat leaders running a racket in Kashmir pertaining to the allocation of medical seats for Kashmiri students in various cities of Pakistan.

For more than 20 years now, Pakistan has offered free seats to Kashmiri students wanting to study medicine and engineering. The Kashmiri students who failed to get admission in colleges in India, would go to Pakistan, where seats were reserved for them in colleges in PoK, Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore. The seats were fully sponsored by the Pakistan government, which used the Hurriyat, on both sides, to decide the seat allocation for these students.

Reportedly, Pakistan has a policy to reserve seats for Kashmiris, who have connections to terrorists and separatists fighting against Indian security forces. They get admission to MBBS, BDS, Engineering, graduation, post-graduation and other streams on Pakistani government institutions. The Pakistan government has reserved at least 6% of medical seats in its medical colleges for Kashmiri students.

It is important to note that several Kashmiri students studying in Pakistan had tried returning back to India from Wagah following the outbreak of coronavirus in Pakistan. More than 400 students from Kashmir who have been studying in various universities of Pakistan had stuck at Wagah, who were then brought back to Amritsar.

Hurriyat members sold seats

Two years back, Abdullah Geelani, a Kashmiri and a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, who once lived in Pakistan, had accused Ghulam Mustafa Safi, then convenor of the Muzaffarabad chapter of the APHC of ‘selling’ these seats in Kashmir.

Abdullah Geelani is the younger brother of the late Delhi University teacher SAR Geelani who was acquitted of involvement in the 2001 Jaish attack on Parliament. It is an open secret in Kashmir that Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the two faces of APHC, lobbied hard to get as many as seats to sell it to the students of Kashmir.

The grand-daughters of Geelani too had studied medicine in Pakistan, However, he stopped recommending names for the seats after allegations of racketeering surfaced.

The National Investigation Agency had even carried out an investigation into the seat racket, for which several Kashmiris are accused and are currently in Tihar Jail. In its charge-sheet, the National Investigation Agency had stated that the Pakistani authorities had offered educational scholarships to the students, relatives of terrorists, to pursue courses in educational institutions.

It is also believed that Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen was behind offering admissions to children of terrorists operating in India in Pakistan’s medical and engineering college. The ISI and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin had joined hands to offer scholarship schemes for children of terrorists who died fighting against India.

Meanwhile, Ghulam Mustafa Safi refuted these charges and said that these were mere allegations. “These allegations are fake, they have been made in a letter, there is no proof. Allegations of NIA remain as allegations until proven and substantiated by documentary proof,” he said while speaking to Indian Express.

The medical seats racket had already set off a storm in the Hurriyat, resulting in Geelani sacking Safi at the end of 2018 and then appointed Abdullah Geelani as convenor in January 2019.

Internal rift within the Hurriyat conference over allegations of corruption

However, Abdullah Geelani’s convenorship also mired with controversies as he was not popular among the other Hurriyat leaders in PoK and most importantly, with the Pakistan establishment.

With backing from Geelani Senior, Abdullah initiated enquiries against Safi. Safi, who has a backing of the Pakistan establishment, remained a parallel power centre.

In his resignation letter, Geelani Senior referred to all these allegations to allege that “when investigations were launched by the party to circumvent the process of transparency and accountability…your representatives started non-cooperating with the convenor…”

Meanwhile, Safi has rejected the allegations of his involvement in medical seat racket was the reason for his exit as convenor of the Hurriyat’s PoK chapter. “There are no differences between us,” he said, however adding that as he is the representative in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir of the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat which is not part of APHC, he was not bound by the leadership of the APHC.

Safi also said he owes his allegiance only to Ashraf Sehrai, leader of the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat in Kashmir. Sehrai, whose terrorist son was recently killed in an encounter, is a serious contender to the post of Hurriyat after Geelani’s resignation, despite Geelani’s naming of Abdullah as heir.

Incidentally, Abdullah has become a vocal voice against the Pakistan establishment for not doing enough to protest against India moves.

Hizbul-Mujahideen Chief Salahuddin sidelined by Pakistan

Even Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin has questioned the silence of the Pakistan establishment. Salahuddin had even questioned how some leaders in Kashmir had escaped detention while others did not. Geelani’s resignation letter had raised these concerns.

According to the Indian security establishment, Salahuddin has been sidelined for months now and ISI had built a new Kashmir terrorist outfit – ‘The Resistance Front’, made of globally designated Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Toiba, which is a snub to the Hizb.

Meanwhile, other faction of Hurriyat in Srinagar have questioned the seriousness of Geelani’s resignation letter alleging that he is in a state of advanced dementia, to claim the letter is a fabrication by Abdullah.

“He has been made completely inaccessible. The security around his house (Geelani is under house detention) does not allow any of us to meet him and his access to the telephone has been cut off by people who don’t want us to talk to him,” said a Hurriyat leader in Srinagar, who did not wish to be named.

Echoing the same, the Hurriyat in PoK has also alleged that Abdullah had foisted himself on the elder Geelani and claimed that Geelani’s son Dr Nayeem had “managed” to make Abdullah the convenor in 2019.

However, Abdullah rejected the allegations to state, “Geelani sahib, as he has said in his audio message, has written a letter to the Hurriyat constituents. We did not leak that letter so we can’t deny or confirm the letter that is making rounds of the social media”.

“In 2018, when Geelani sahib removed Safi sahib, this propaganda about me and Nayeem Geelani continued for one of two months. That was laid to rest when Geelani sahib called me during a (Hurriyat) meeting and informed everyone that I am his representative He also said the apprehensions about Geelani’s health were not true and claimed he spoke to him every alternate day…for five, ten minutes,” said Abdullah.

Nayeem Geelani, who lives with his father in Srinagar, clarified that his father has a nominated representative Abdullah Geelani. When asked why his father was not available to telephone calls, Nayeem said it was his father’s decision. “He has not been talking to media for two years now. He has himself said that he will not talk to media directly,” Nayeem added.

Retired Gorkha soldiers get domicile certificates in Jammu and Kashmir

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has started issuing domicile certificates last month. More than 6,600 applicants have got the document allowing them to apply for jobs and buy property in the Union Territory. As per the reports, the majority of these applicants are retired Gorkha soldiers and officers.

More than one and a half-century wait for Gorkhas

The Gorkha community has been living in Jammu and Kashmir for more than 150 years. 68-year-old Prem Bahadur, ex-Hawaldar Gorkha Rifles, said that his father Harak Singh served in the army of Maharaja Hari Singh. He joined Gorkha Rifles with his brother Om Prakash. Since they retired from the army, they tried getting Permanent Resident Certificates, but it was of no use. “Now, my MBA son can apply for a government job. And I can die in peace knowing I served India,” he added.

Vijay Kumar Sharma, additional deputy commissioner (Revenue), Jammu said in a statement that they had issued 5900 certificated already. Around 700 certificates have been issued in Kashmir, out of which many are former Gorkha soldiers and officers.

Dr. Rohit Sharma, tehsildar of Bahu in Jammu, was quoted by Times of India saying, “In my tehsil alone, there are nearly 2,500 from the Gorkha community had served in the Indian Army and their families who got domicile (about 3,500 have applied). There are quite a few from the Valmiki community also.”

It is believed that the center’s decision to expand domicile criteria in the Union Territory was due to the protest by different groups, including Gorkha service members, Valmikis, women who married outside J&K and Pakistan refugees. The Valmiki community members came to the state from Punjab in 1957 after local sanitation workers went on a strike. The majority of the applicants lived in the country for years without basic rights that the residents enjoyed, including government jobs.

Over 200 applications daily for domicile certificate

According to the rules, those who had lived in J&K for 15 years and their children, officers with central government and central institutions, Pakistani Refugees, those who have studied in J&K for seven years and appeared in Class X and XII exams are eligible for the domicile certificate. The rules were notified on 18th May by the Jammu and Kashmir administration.

On 26th June, Navin Kumar Choudhary, IAS officer from Bihar, became the first person to get the domicile certificate. He had served in the J&K government for 26 years. The administration said they are receiving more than 200 applications daily and have received more than 33,000. PDP and NC have shown displeasure over domicile certificated to “outsiders” claiming it will change J&K’s demographics.

Vikas Dubey got a call from police station before raid, I saw nothing, claims gangster’s aide who was arrested last night

The Kanpur police had reportedly arrested an aide of gangster Vikas Dubey in Kalyanpur in Uttar Pradesh, following an encounter on Saturday night. The accomplice has been identified as one Daya Shankar Agnihotri. He informed that Dubey had received a call from the cops before they came to arrest him.

He added that Dubey had called around 25-30 people and had fired shots at the police. In his defence, Agnihotri said, “I was locked inside the house at the time of encounter. Therefore, I saw nothing.” Dubey has been on the run from the law enforcement authorities.

Meanwhile, the Police have put up photographs of Dubey at the checkpost near India-Nepal border in Rupaidiha, Bahraich district to catch him.

Vikas Dubey sets up an ambush, kills 8 policemen

In a shocking incident, eight police personnel, including Deputy SP Devendra Mishra, were killed and six cops were injured in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur during a police raid to nab a hardened criminal and murderer Vikas Dubey’s house on July 2 late night. According to the reports, a team of Uttar Pradesh had gone to raid an area in search of criminal Vikas Dubey in Chaubepur in Kanpur.

The raid was carried out at 1 am on the intervening night of July 2-3 in Bithoor area in Chaubepur. As the police team reached the spot, they were ambushed by Dubey’s men who were prepared with arms on the roof of a building and continuously shot at them. Shockingly, the criminals had already stationed a JCB machine on the road to block the police team. UP police have informed that the operation is still going on and forensic teams are at the spot.

Kanpur encounter: Circle Officer DSP Devendra Mishra’s head and toes cut off by Vikas Dubey’s men, autopsy reveals

The autopsy report of the eight policemen who died in one of the bloodiest encounters in UP History has revealed Maoist-style ambush and extreme brutality. The injuries on the cops are similar to those sustained in guerilla-style attacks by Maoists that include beheading.

According to the report, DSP Devendra Mishra’s head and toes were severed with an axe. His body was mutilated. The attackers fired bullets on a sub-inspector from point-blank range. A constable was shot dead using an AK-47 they snatched from the police. The investigation so far suggests that around 60 men of gangster Vikas Dubey ambushed the police team in an attack pattern similar to that of Maoists in the red corridor.

Autopsy revealed the brutality of the attackers

Sub-inspector Anup Singh had seven bullets lodged in his body. Mahesh Yadav, Shivrajpur station officer, had gunshot injuries on chest, shoulder, and face. Constable Jitendra Pal possibly became the victim of AK-47 bullets that torn his body. Rahul, Bablu and Sultan sustained gunshot wounds from .315 bore rifle resulting in their death.

The patent of injuries, particularly to head and shoulders, suggested that the attackers enjoyed the advantage they had for being on an altitude. There were snipers positioned on the rooftops that caused severe damage to the police team. Mohit Agarwal, Inspector General of Police, Kanpur range was quoted by TOI, saying, “Such a guerrilla-style ambush is unprecedented in Uttar Pradesh. First, a trap was laid by placing a JCB machine on the dirt road and then the gang members sprung a surprise by firing from rooftops. This is the normal strategy adopted by Maoists. A blackout was enforced on the stretch as part of the tactics.”

In the aftermath of the attack, Uttar Pradesh police have deployed 20 dedicated teams comprising over 3,000 personnel to arrest Dubey. The Kanpur administration demolished his house and cars.

Kanpur encounter

On the intervening night of 2nd and 3rd July, eight police personnel were killed by UP gangster Vikas Dubey and his men near Kanpur. A team of 15-16 Uttar Pradesh police had carried out raids in search of criminal Vikas Dubey in Chaubepur in Kanpur. The raid was carried out at 1 am on the intervening night of July 2-3 in Bithoor area in Chaubepur.

The police personnel were ambushed by Dubey’s men who were prepared with arms on the roof of a building and continuously shot at them. The criminals had already blocked the road with a JCB machine to prevent the policemen from escaping. A total of eight police personnel were killed and six injured.

Uttar Pradesh: Ahead of Bakri Eid, PETA’s appeal to stop goat slaughter infuriates Islamic clerics, bully them into removing hoardings

A hoarding put up by Animal rights organisation – PETA with a photograph of a goat, urging people not to slaughter it, was removed in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh after Islamic clerics objected to such hoardings.

According to the reports, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal (PETA) had put up a hoarding in Qaiserbagh, which displayed a huge picture of a goat and read – “Mai Jeev Hoon, Maans Nahi. Hamare Prati Nazariya Badlen, Vegan Bane” (I am a living being and not just meat. Change your view towards us and become a vegan).

As posters were put up by PETA across other parts of the city, Islamic clerics in the city claimed that such posters hurt their religious sentiments.

Islamic clerics outrage over PETA’s hoardings, files complaint

Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, President of the Islamic Centre of India, had even complained to the Lucknow Police Commissioner demanding the removal of PETA’s hoarding. The Maulana objected to the hoarding by placing a photo of the goat before the festival of Bakrid.

“Bakrid is expected to be celebrated on July 31. Why such hoarding is being put up just ahead of the festival?” the cleric queried. “It seems that these hoardings were deliberately put up in a mischievous attempt to hurt Muslim sentiments,” he added.

Shockingly, two complaints were also registered with the Kaiserbagh police demanding the removal

A letter was also sent by the director of Centre for Objective Research and Development (CORD) Athar Husain.

“Muslims observe ‘qurbani’ (sacrifice) on the festival. The hoarding is sending out a wrong message, it is objectionable. The community strongly objects to it, “Husain added.

Few other Islamic clerics had also objected to the hoardings, saying they have been put up to “spoil the law and order situation in the state capital ahead of the festival of Eid-Ul-Azha.”

Following the outrage, the PETA hoardings put up in Lucknow have been removed.
