Dainik Bhaskar publishes fake interview of Finland PM Sanna Marin on its portal, deletes after confronted by Finnish government

On March 8, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Dainik Baskar’s digital arm DB Post published an interview with Sanna Marin, the prime minister of Finland. The interviewer had claimed to have met Marin in Helsinki. But now it had emerged that no such interview had taken place, and the entire interview was fabricated.

The ‘interview’ comprised of 15 questions that the Finnish PM had ‘answered’, which was labelled as exclusive by Bhaskar. The publication had claimed that the interviewer had gone to Finland and met Sanna Marin for an exclusive chat. According to it, Marin had described India as having great potential, apart from giving detailed answers.

DB Post wrote, “Bhaskar’s representative in the USA went to Finland and met Marin for an exclusive chat. On the International Women’s Day Bhaskar brings you the first interview of the youngest head of state of the world- Sana Marin, by an Indian media.”

The report said that “Marin gets uncomfortable when addressed as ‘woman prime minister’. She is of the opinion that the biggest obstacles in the path of holistic progress are gender and religious discrimination”.

The interview, published on the website of DB Post, was spotted by Finnish prime minister’s office on Sunday, March 8 itself, according to a report by Finnish media house Journalisti. Päivi Anttikoski, Communications Director of Finland government said that she is amazed that a major Indian media house published an interview that never took place. “We would have known if anyone in Helsinki had interviewed the Prime Minister”, she said, affirming that the interview is fake.

Following the discovery of the fake interview, the Finnish govt launched an operation to seek answers from India, including through the Indian Embassy in Helsinki. They were informed that the interview was handed over to Dainik Bhaskar by a freelance journalist, including notes on Finnish govt letterhead. Anttikoski asserts that the letterheads are also fake, and they are not from the Finnish govt’s office.

While going through the answers given by Sanna Marin in the fake interview, it was later determined that the text was lifted from an earlier interview of the Finnish PM given to German TV channel ZDF. The transcript of a portion of the TV interview was published on the ZDF website on February 19th, and it appears that Bhaskar repackaged it and presented it to DBPost as his exclusive interview of Marin. The media house too failed to check the authenticity of the interview and published it on its website.

According to Journalisti, DB Post had confirmed that they had received a request from the Cabinet Office of Finland for a correction of the story, and they had assured that it will be resolved. After that, the portal removed the interview from its website, without issuing any apology or clarification.

On Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attacked the government over the handling of the coronavirus situation, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is ‘ignoring’ the health crisis. Congress prince Rahul Gandhi also claimed that the government was not taking the problem seriously.

“I have been saying that coronavirus is a very serious problem and the government has not taken action on it the way it should have,” said Rahul Gandhi on Thursday as he targetted Modi government alleging that Modi government was ill-prepared to handle the Coronavirus crisis.

Claiming that there was “no preparation” by the government to tackle coronavirus, he said the government was “asleep” and did not realise that the virus was spreading in this country and was going to have devastating consequences. He also slammed the government over its response to coronavirus, saying it is not just a virus that is infecting people, but it is a very serious problem for the economy.

The Gandhi-scion also took to Twitter to attack Prime Minister Modi as he said, “I will keep repeating this. The coronavirus is a huge problem. Ignoring the problem is a non-solution. The Indian economy will be destroyed if strong action is not taken. The government is in a stupor.”

Rahul Gandhi, who gave a series of lectures to the Modi government on handling the Corona crisis, however, was as usual high on rhetorics. When asked about the specific suggestions he wished to give to Narendra Modi government on handling the coronavirus, Rahul Gandhi in his quintessential style, ran away from the responsibility by stating that he was not an expert on the subject of Coronavirus.

“I am not an expert and it is not my place to start giving tactical answers to the questions on what should be done to handle the Coronavirus situation,” said Rahul Gandhi.

Ever since the deadly coronavirus outbreak occurred, the Indian government has been extremely proactive in handling the ongoing crisis and has taken effective steps to ensure that the contagious virus is contained to make sure that virus does not spread.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has himself taken the responsibility to handle the emerging health crisis and has time and again urged the people of the country not to panic amidst the Coronavirus scare in the country.

Just last week, in a series of tweets, PM Modi had urged people of the country not to panic and listed out the self-protective measures to avoid infection of any kind. PM Modi informed the masses through twitter that he had an extensive review regarding preparedness on the COVID-19 novel coronavirus and different ministries and states are working together from screening people in India to providing prompt medical attention in order to expel out the deadly virus.

Addition to that, the government has been on a high-alert ever since the outbreak occurred and has set up medical facilities and testing centres to detect people who are carrying the COVID-19 virus. The airports, ports and all incoming checkpoints have been put on high alert with setting up quarantine facilities to isolate the positive cases. Indian Army has also set up several quarantine facilities to accommodate Indians who are set to be evacuated from various countries.

Nearly 16,000 people across the country have been kept on community surveillance, more than 500 have been identified as the symptomatic cases and being monitored while 70 are hospitalised.

Following widespread Coronavirus outbreak in China, India initially suspended the e-visa facility for Chinese travellers and foreigners residing in China. Later, with the situation taking a serious turn, the Modi government took a brave decision to suspended all tourist visas and e-visas granted on or before March 11. All incoming visitors including Indian nationals were advised against non-essential travel because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Further, the Indian government had also committed itself to evacuate Indian citizens who were trapped in various countries including China, Iran and various other countries following the global crisis. The Indian government had also sent Air India jumbo B747 to China to evacuate citizens.

The Air India flight made two flights to Wuhan city – the epicentre of the coronavirus epidemic. In the first flight, 324 Indians were evacuated and later another 323 Indians and seven Maldivian citizens were flown back. A total of 57 pilgrims from Ladakh region who had visited Quom, Iran for pilgrimage, were brought by C-17 aircraft on Tuesday. Over 80 people who arrived from Italy on AI flight AI138 on Wednesday have also been quarantined at the Indian Army facility.

It is not new for Rahul Gandhi to generate a hue and cry over issues he later admits he had no idea about. In the past, the Congress prince, despite spending a tremendous amount of time screaming inside and outside the parliament over certain issues, has later admitted that he does not have enough details to suggest what could have been done otherwise.

Rahul had spent a better part of 2018 and 2019 alleging that the Modi government had done a scam in the purchase of Rafale fighter jets, and continued spreading blatant lies, only to admit later that he does not have enough details to point out what could have been done differently. Similarly, despite generating a massive outrage over the Doklam issue, he had admitted later that he does not know enough to point out what could have been done differently.

Twitter locks OpIndia-Hindi for reporting stories of Hindu victims of Delhi riots, calls it ‘hateful conduct’

The curious case of micro-blogging site Twitter arbitrarily suspending nationalistic Twitter accounts continued once again as this time it has locked the account of ‘OpIndia-Hindi’ for reporting facts and exposing “liberal-secular” media’s dubious propaganda on Delhi anti-Hindu riots.

On Sunday, OpIndia-Hindi had posted an investigative report on how Muslim mobs had carried out a meticulous plan a few days prior to the communal riots and had exposed the claim of the “liberal-secular” media who had propagated the false narrative of Muslims being the ‘victim’ despite being perpetrators of the crime in reality. In a report titled “महीनों से हिंदुओं पर हमले की योजना बना रही मुस्लिम भीड़ आख़िर पीड़ित कैसे? – 10 कहानियों से साफ होती तस्वीर“, OpIndia Hindi had talked about 10 Hindus who faced the ire of violent Muslim mob in the recent Delhi riots.

As per Twitter, writing about the fate of 10 Hindus who had to face the brunt in the Delhi anti-Hindu riots is ‘hateful conduct’. OpIndia had reported that these incidents of violence on Hindus were not ‘accidental’ but meticulously planned and executed. However, for Twitter, this amounts to ‘hateful conduct’.

Following the suspension of the account for 12 hours, Twitter has given a clarification claiming that the account had promoted violence or threatened other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, etc. However, the micro-blogging site did not provide any specific reason before arbitrarily suspending the account.

Not only that, the personal account of OpIndia Hindi Editor, Ajeet Bharti, has also been locked for 12 hours because of his tweet to ‘journalist’ Saba Naqvi.

This is not the first time Twitter has tried to suppress voices of those from the right-wing ideology. Earlier, a Twitter user who makes hilarious spoofs of Rahul Gandhi had also got his account permanently suspended by Twitter which made people wonder if it was due to his political ideology. Just a few weeks back, the account of Twitter user ‘“टीपूडा” whose username is @AmolDraws was suspended by the micro-blogging site after he had exposed the bias of an ultra-left wing cartoonist.

Social media users have been questioning the mysterious behaviour of Twitter which is often found censoring social media users for expressing their opinion. Last year, it had also banned Kashmiri Pandit activist Rohit Kachroo after he had exposed NDTV for trying to stage a debate showing that Kashmiri Pandits are unhappy with the abrogation of Article 370.

Coronavirus outbreak: BCCI postpones IPL till April 15, Delhi govt bans all sports events and social gatherings

Due to the ongoing coronavirus across the world including India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to postpone the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). The annual T20 cricket tournament, which was scheduled to begin on March 29, will now start from April 15th.

In a press release, BCCI said, “the BCCI is concerned and sensitive about all its stakeholders, and public health in general, and it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that, all people related to IPL including fans have a safe cricketing experience”.  The office-bearers of the BCCI, led by president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, met at the board’s headquarters in Mumbai on Friday and took the decision.

Earlier today, the Delhi government had announced that IPL and other sports events will not be allowed in the city state. In a press conference held on Friday, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia announced that all social and sports gatherings including the coveted Indian Premier League (IPL) will not be held in Delhi in the wake of coronavirus outbreak that has affected 6 people in Delhi so far.

He added, “It is our responsibility to stop the spread of coronavirus. Social distancing is the biggest solution to this problem. Even one person (carrier) can infect several other people. Self-restraint is required in such circumstances.”

Delhi Health Minister Satyender Jain advised people with symptoms of coronavirus such as cough and fever to stay insolated in their homes. He emphasised that home quarantine is the best solution in such cases. Jain also added that the government had enough quarantine facilities to deal with the deadly virus.

The official government order read, “In exercise of the powers conferred by the Delhi Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19, Regulations, 2020 under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, it is hereby directed that all sports gatherings (including IPL)/conferences/seminars beyond 200 people are prohibited in NCT of Delhi for the purpose of prevention and control of the outbreak of epidemic disease namely COVID – 19.”

Yesterday the Delhi government had ordered that all educational institutions and movie theatres will remain closed till March 31.

Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), following discussions with the Ministry of Sports and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, had announced that the remaining one-day international matches between India and South Africa would be played in Lucknow and Kolkata without any public gathering, including spectators. 

On Thursday, a special appointee of the Ministry of External Affairs, Dammu Ravi, said “I think it is for the organizers (of IPL) to decide whether to go ahead with it or not. Our advice would be to not do it at this time but if they want to go ahead, it is their decision.” The government earlier issued an advisory banning existing foreign visas till April 15.

If and when the IPL is held from 15th April, it will be played behind closed doors in empty stadiums, as per the directive of the union health ministry. Moreover, it will also depend on the availability of visa for foreign players, who are integral parts of the teams in IPL. Indian govt has already cancelled most visas upto 15th April, exempting only diplomatic, official, employment and project visas. According to reports, the event, if held, may be limited to one or two venues, to limit travel. This will also depend on individual state governments allowing the games to be held in their states, as other states may also follow Delhi and ban social and sports gatherings.

Jammu and Kashmir: Govt issues order releasing Farooq Abdullah from preventive detention

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has revoked the detention of Former Chief Minister and National Conference Chief Farooq Abdullah and ordered his release with an immediate effect.

In the month of December, the detention term of NC leader Farooq Abdullah was extended by three months. He was put under house arrest under the stringent Public Safety Act(PSA) in September after a month of the abrogation of Article 370 that removed the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir. The Modi government had also bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into three union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Abdullah, after his release, has thanked the people of Jammu and Kashmir and has stated that he will not speak of any political issue till all political leaders are released.

His son Omar Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, who were put under house arrest on August 5, the same day when 370 was nullified by the center, continues to be in detention.

The opposition including Congress, Trinamool Congress, Akali Dal and NCP had earlier demanded the release of politician Farooq Abdullah, along with his son Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti in a joint statement.

Besides these major political giants of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act was also slapped on various leaders like NC general secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Former NC MLC Bashir Veeri and PDP Leader Sartaj Madni, IAS turned politician Shah Faesal and many others.

The foul anti-India propaganda of Al Jazeera needs to stop

The recent Delhi riots have sent the international media into an anti-India frenzy! They have all labelled this as an anti-Muslim pogrom. These are all a part of a bigger conspiracy to portray India as an anti-Muslim country. Al Jazeera particularly has a history of writing grossly misleading and often instigating articles against India with forged information to manufacture fear among our own citizens. Their malicious intentions of tarnishing India’s image globally are now clearer than ever!

For the recent riots in Delhi, Al Jazeera has claimed that the riots were specifically against the Muslims. In their rant against the Indian government, they failed to even mention once about the death of so many Hindus, the death of 2 government servants and the numerous attacks on the police or the paramilitary! They even reported that “Mosque in Indian capital set ablaze as police accused of helping Hindu mob target Muslims and their properties.” However, this coming from Al Jazeera is nothing new.

An Al Jazeera article on Delhi riots

In 2015, the Indian government had banned Al Jazeera for five days for displaying a wrong map of India repeatedly. As per the Surveyor General of India, some of the maps displayed by Al Jazeera had potions of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and Aksai Chin, not shown as parts of India. If this was not enough, they even failed to show Lakshadweep and Andaman Islands as parts of India in some of their maps. The news channel failed to adhere to the Survey of India copyright map and went against India’s National Map Policy of 2005 and the Map Restriction Policy issued time to time by the Ministry of Defence. The Ministry of External Affairs had found the channel guilty of violating the provisions of the programme code and prohibited transmission or re-transmission of the channel throughout India for five days.

Al Jazeera has also been involved in spreading fake news against India. On November 6th, 2017, they had posted an article titled “The forgotten massacre that ignited the Kashmir dispute”. They claimed that “thousands of Muslims were killed in Jammu by paramilitaries led by the army of Dogra ruler Hari Singh.” However, the picture used in this article was actually an image of a family from Amritsar relocating to Lahore. It was not even remotely related to Jammu and Kashmir.

Al Jazeera is hell-bent on selling a story of India which is untrue. They generally want to show India as a country which is oppressive to its citizens and whose army and paramilitary troops use unjust force to curb its resenting citizens. They even have a page on Kashmir where they try to show India as a villain and make funny comparisons to the Palestinian crisis.

Let us not forget the agenda which led to the formation of Al Jazeera. Its sole purpose was always to counter Israel’s stance on Palestine. However, it also had agendas of disrupting the Arab world. In the past, we saw its Beirut correspondent Ali Hashem resign over its biased coverage of Syria. We have also seen them refuse to cover the protests in Bahrain, but they did not miss covering Libya and Egypt.

In all the terror attacks which have killed thousands in India, they have failed to call the people who carried them out as terrorists. Rather, they labelled them as armed men. When the whole world is aware of who is the mastermind behind all these terror attacks, Al Jazeera’s eyes seem to glued shut. They have an entire page on Kashmir but not a word against Balochistan. Let us not forget who is the Director General and Editor in Chief for Al Jazeera is. Mostefa Souag has a history for favouring Islamic Radicalization and he has now turned Al Jazeera as its perfect radicalization arm. Al Jazeera has also time and again supported Islamist Supremacists and anti-Semitism of the Ikhwan. So, let us not fall into this trap and let one side gain traction. We need to deliberately counter these false narratives. I am sure my fellow Indians will surely see through this biased channel soon.

Even as the world is grappling for the scourge of coronavirus, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi took the initiative to propose a joint strategy for the South Asian countries to tackle the menace of the novel contagion.

PM Modi took to Twitter to make an appeal to the leaders of the SAARC countries to come together to chalk out an effective strategy against the Coronavirus. He added that discussions can be held via video conferencing to keep the citizens healthy. PM Modi also said that the united and synchronised efforts can set an example for the world to emulate and contribute towards building a healthier planet.

Asserting that South Asia is home to a sizeable chunk of the global population, PM Modi exhorted the SAARC countries to leave no stone unturned to ensure the health and well-being of their people.

The zoonotic contagion Coronavirus which most likely emerged from one of the streets of the wet markets in the central Chinese city of Wuhan was recently declared as a pandemic by the WHO after the disease was found to have transmitted at an alarming rate across the world. So far, approximately 4600 people have died of the contagion, with about 3000 in Mainland China alone. Outside Asia, Italy has been the worst-hit country as the death toll crossed the 1000-mark.

Ibrahim Mohammad Solih, the president of the Maldives, Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli, Bhutan PM Lotay Shering, and Srilankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa have welcomed PM Modi’s decision, promising their support.

South Asia too has been reeling under the novel coronavirus as the cases in India have steeply risen to 75, including the death of the 76-year-old Karnataka man who had recently returned from Saudi Arabia. Delhi has reported 6 confirmed corona cases while Uttar Pradesh has registered 10. Maharashtra has 11, Karnataka has 5 and Ladakh three. Kerala has reported 17 cases so far. Besides, Rajasthan, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab have reported one case each.

Days after Harsh Mander’s video of openly inciting the Muslims to hit the streets to protest against the court and government went viral, the controversial activist has now categorically asked the Shaheen Bagh protesters to end their stir. As per a report in Times Now, Mander asserted that Shaheen Bagh protest needs to be withdrawn as it was used as a trigger by RSS and its affiliates to perpetuate hate campaign against the Muslims, of which the Delhi riots was the direct consequence.

According to Mander and company, Shaheen Bagh protests have become a tool for the RSS and their affiliates who are using it to propagate ‘hate against the Muslims’. The Times Now report says that in a video released on 27 February, Mander has asked the Shaheen Bagh protests to withdraw their demonstrations, claiming that the protests which caused a massive inconvenience to people in Delhi were exploited by Hindu groups to peddle their hate against the minority community.

Another ‘secular-liberal-intellectual’ Saba Naqvi has also just tweeted that all protests must be withdrawn due to the coronavirus scare.

The ED has been probing the funding behind the Delhi riots and Shaheen Bagh protests. It was already reported that radical Islamist organisation PFI had collected over 120 crores to orchestrate anti-CAA protests. Recently, PFI Delhi president and secretary were arrested in this regard.

Days after the Delhi riots, as media focus shifted to riot-affected areas of Delhi and Delhi police action, Shaheen Bagh started losing steam. As media attention dwindled, the protest site started losing the crowd.

It is notable here that despite the Muslim mob blocking a busy highway for months, descending onto the streets damaging public property and injuring, killing people, ‘activists’ and the leftist media cabal has been trying relentlessly to portray Muslims as the victims. Harsh Mander’s NGO Karwan-e-Mohabbat has been linked with Shaheen Bagh protests and has called people to join the protests in the past.

The Delhi riots were orchestrated by groups with a vested interest to time it with US President Trump’s visit to the city. Many reports have found extensive preparations, hoarding of stones, petrol bombs and mass mobilisation among the Muslim community to attack Hindus in their neighbourhood. The Delhi police and ED are already probing the links between culprits and their financiers.

Earlier, Harsh Mander, a controversial left-wing ‘activist’ was seen inciting mobs to hit the streets to protests against the country. In what appears like an attempt to create anarchy and violence on the streets of the country, Mander said the time has come to decide our fate on the streets as he indirectly called for the dismantling of public institutions in the country.

In an undated video, Mander was heard saying how there is no scope of secularism in Supreme Court, especially after the Ayodhya verdict. Speaking to a gathering in Delhi, the foreign-funded activist was seen inciting the mob, calling them to descend on streets to decide for themselves based on the show of the strength. Mander claimed that time has now come for people to hit the streets as both the Supreme Court and parliament have failed them. The apex court had then taken suo moto cognisance of Mander’s provocative speech.

Indian stock market halted trading for 45 minutes during the early session on Friday after both the benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty hit their lower circuit limits. However, after the major free-fall, in the best intra-day recovery, the BSE Sensex recovered more than 5000 points from its intra-day low of 29,388.97, while Nifty also recovered 1600 points from the low of 8555.15.

News agency ANI took to Twitter to share the changes in the BSE Sensex levels. It reported that as of 12.34 PM the Sensex was up 740.82 points, at 33,518.96.

While this extreme market volatility left some investors jittery while others, excited, it surely left Congress leader Jitu Patwari extremely enthused. As the Sensex zoomed, the Congress leader, took to Twitter to point out how with PM Modi, even this is possible now! “Modi hain toh mumkin hain”, tweeted the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister of Higher Education, Sports and Youth Affairs.

This unanticipated reaction, where a Congress loyalist is praising PM Modi, has left the netizens bewildered. Owing to the high octane political drama in Madhya Pradesh, where 22 MLAs have ditched the Congress party leaving the Kamal Nath government on the brink of collapse, many people on Twitter contemplated whether Jitu Patwari is also planning to jump the ship.

A Twitter user was steadfast in welcoming the Congress leader into BJP.

And there was another netizen who mocked Kamal Nath of losing one more loyalist.

The crisis in Madhya Pradesh has deepened on Tuesday after Jyotiraditya Scindia resigned from Congress and at least 22 MLAs close to him have announced to withdraw support from the Kamal Nath government. Former Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday joined the BJP in the presence of party chief JP Nadda. He will now be contesting the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

It may be noted nearly 19 rebel Congress MLAs, close to newly inducted BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia has been staying in Bengaluru, which had triggered a political crisis in Madhya Pradesh where the Kamal Nath government has become a minority.

Maharashtra: Fake sanitiser factories busted in Mumbai

Food and Drug Administration of Maharashtra on Friday raided a factory alleged of making fake hand sanitisers in Vakola area of Mumbai. As per reports, the ‘sanitizers’ didn’t have proper anti-bacterial particles which make the solution disinfectant. A huge cache has been recovered and authorities are reportedly taking action against them. The factory had reportedly started operations 8 days back and had neither licence nor batch number.

These were reportedly sold for Rs 105 to Rs 180 a piece. “Due to coronavirus scare, people are scared and purchasing sanitizers in panic. Some anti-social elements are engaged in making fake products,” said Joint Commissioner of FDA Maharashtra Dr. Gahane.

In another raid, a factory in Gurugram which was manufacturing spirit-based hand sanitizers was also found the culprit of making fake sanitisers on Wednesday. The team of officers from the FDA, Haryana recovered 5000 bottles of sanitizer filled with the brand name of Viro-rub along with a large number of empty bottles and labels. Around 1,000 liters of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) was also seized from the manufacturing unit.

Ashok Meena, Commissioner of FDA Haryana said that the unit which was functioning in the name of Hi-Tech international in the Plot 18, Sector-6 Manesar, did not have any license under Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. This manufacturing unit had also begun operations only ten days back in which they had sold as many as 2,500 bottles before the authorities raided the unit.

Usage of hand sanitiser is one of the precautionary measures the government as well as WHO have recommended to protect oneself against getting infected with coronavirus.
