A large protest led by VHP and Bajrang Dal broke out outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi today. Demonstrators clashed with police and broke through barricades while demanding justice for Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu man killed recently in Bangladesh.
Police in Uttarakhand’s Khatima have booked Sidari Prasad for allegedly converting Dalit Hindus to Christianity through inducements and deceit. The accused, now absconding, faces charges under the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The court found prima facie evidence that the accused were involved in organised attempts to convert Hindus to Christianity through inducement and threats, rejecting their bail plea and directing continuation of the ongoing police investigation.
Three were arrested after Bajrang Dal’s Shantanu Tiwari complained of Christian missionaries conducting conversions in Haribhanpur village. The FIR details attempts to lure Hindus with money and jobs, and an assault when objections were raised.
Activists belonging to the Hindu rights organisations Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal reached the restaurant at night and handed over the accused to the police. Angry people took to the streets in the city. The police administration held a meeting and spoke with the traders to control the situation.
Following a tip-off from Bajrang Dal and VHP, Chitrakoot Police uncovered a forced conversion racket in Ghunuwa village, detaining two accused and seizing Christian religious literature while investigating claims of mass conversions among poor Hindus.
