Cyclone Fengal, which made landfall on the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Saturday, November 30, has caused widespread flooding in several areas, particularly in Cuddalore.
The government authorities advised the public not to visit beaches in the metropolis, including Marina Beach, Pattinapakkam and Edward Elliot Beach. The tourist spots in Puducherry have been closed as a precautionary measure, owing to the cyclone Fengal.
If the depression intensifies and the storm develops, it will be named ‘Cyclone Michaung’. Based on the formula followed for naming cyclones in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), the name 'Michaung' was suggested by Myanmar.
Natural disasters cannot be prevented, but they can be dealt with firmly by planning against them. The Government of Gujarat did not make any shortcomings in the advance planning to fight this cyclone.
Meteorologist Shahinul Islam stated the bulk and centre of the storm would pass over Myanmar and the rest would lash Cox's Bazar coast, as per Dhaka Tribune.
Malawi's Department of Disaster Management Affairs said the cyclone had killed as many as 326 people. The devastation in the wake of the tropical storm left survivors trapped and fighting for survival.
