The police took action based on a complaint by Meenakshi Sharma, a resident of Ayodhya Nagar. In her complaint, she accused Dr Vinay Sahu, Krishnakant Kurre, and Dhal Singh Sahu of converting people to Christianity.

At the hostel, the warden treated the girls like laborers rather than students and fed them worm-infested food.

The victim was promised that he would received one thousand rupees every and a consolidated sum of Rs. 5 lakh after converting to Christianity.

Asif took the victim to Haridwar and pretended to convert to Hinduism to gain her trust. After this, he allegedly raped her under the pretext of marriage multiple times.

The incident came to light when a video went viral on social media where an event was being organised at the house of the victim after establishing a mazar. Hindu organisations took cognisance of the matter immediately and approached the police. Following the complaint by the Hindu organisations, the police swung into action and stopped the event.

The accused's uncle Zahid Khan also forced the Hindu victim to convert and the two even tried to abduct her on motorbike.

The victim's father complained that the Laur police station in-charge humiliated him and ordered him to leave.

The accused first promised to embrace Hinduism to marry her but then started to pressure her to convert to Islam.

A social media post purportedly published by the deceased victim Linesh Sahu stated that his wife Karuna and his in-laws were harassing and pressuring him to undergo religious conversion to Christianity.

OpIndia has accessed the conversion certificate and court affidavit, alleging the victim's free will of marriage, which were prepared on Monday (18th November).
