Multiple banners have been put up in the area telling people not to celebrate the festival of colours there.

The TMC's campaign on the alleged "ghost voters" from Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat has already drawn flak from the BJP.

The Chief Electoral Officer's response came in the wake of the announcement made by Ms Banerjee about the formation of a committee to investigate alleged voter list irregularities in the state.

Sanjay Roy was convicted under multiple sections of the BNS for the heinous crimes of rape and murder. The court sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for life under Section 64 BNS, along with a fine of ₹50,000. In default of paying the fine, he is to undergo simple imprisonment (SI) for five months. Additionally, he was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life under Section 103(1) BNS, with another fine of ₹50,000 and a default sentence of simple imprisonment for five months.

"At this stage, on account of certain intervening factors and circumstances, the chamber of Advocate Vrinda Grover is constrained to withdraw from the case proceedings in this matter and will no longer be representing the victim's family", Grover's office stated.
