Back in 1989, Dr Armida Fernandez set up Asia's first human milk bank at Sion Hospital (Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital). It was a game-changer, slashing infant deaths by giving preterm babies donated mother's milk when their own moms couldn't provide it.

Solar Industries is currently one of India's key private-sector partners in strategic weapons manufacturing for multiple Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)-made missiles, such as Pralay, Pinaka, Akash and other guided weapon systems. Padma Shri Saalumarada Thimmakka, adored as the “Mother of trees,” passed away at 114. She planted over 8,000 trees, including 385 banyan trees along a single stretch of road. Her dedication inspired environmental conservation across India, leaving a lasting green legacy.

In the letter, the signatories asserted that withdrawing Padma Shri from Ekta Kapoor would not only restore the sanctity of the prestigious award but also reinforce the govt’s commitment to upholding the country’s ethical standards and societal values.

The Union government on Saturday released the list of Padma Award winners on the eve of the 76th Republic Day celebrations.

Hemchand Manjhi added, "Earlier, they (Naxalites) killed my nephew Komal Manjhi by levelling false allegations. My family is living under the shadow of threat." 

Assam's Parbati Baruah, India's first female elephant keeper or 'mahout', will be one among 110 unsung yet distinguished persons to receive the country's fourth-highest civilian honour-Padma Shri.

Among the awardees are those who have fought against financial and physical odds to create a cascading impact in society and also those who dedicated their finances and skills entirely to the society

The awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher order), and Padma Shri (distinguished service)
