‘Keep National Security is above politics’, Kiren Rijiju hits out at Rahul Gandhi

We had earlier reported how raids were carried out by Pune police in a minimum of eight different locations in five states including Mumbai, Ranchi, Faridabad, and Delhi in connection with the alleged Maoist plot to assassinate Prime Minister Modi and the Bhima Koregaon violence.

Five ‘activists’ were apprehended by police for having connections with the Bhima-Koregaon violence. These activists all allegedly had a connection to the Bhima-Koregaon violence. As we reported earlier all of these five activists to have strong connections with the Maoist movement. Among the arrested, some of the notable names are Gautam Navlakha, editor at Economical and Political weekly, Sudha Bharadwaj, a trade unionist, and Anand Teltumbde, a management professional and political analyst.

Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter on Tuesday to register his comments about the detention of these five activists, taking a dig at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the president of the Indian National Congress tweeted :

“There is only place for one NGO in India and it’s called the RSS. Shut down all other NGOs. Jail all activists and shoot those that complain. Welcome to the new India. #BhimaKoregaon,”

Today, the Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju also took to Twitter to condemn Rahul and remind him that Dr. Manmohan Singh had declared that Maoism to be the No. 1 threat to India’s national security and asked him to not compromise on national security for political reasons.

The minister accused him of openly supporting ‘front organisations and sympathisers of the Maoists. The police have booked all the accused under Sections 153 A, 505(1) B,117,120 B,13,16,18,20,38,39,40 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Apart from Gandhi, the CPIM general secretary Sitaram Yechury also cried foul and described the arrests as a “blatant attack on democratic rights in the country,” and added that the situation in the country is worse than 1975 emergency.

The Bhima Koregaon violence erupted while observing the 200th anniversary of the Bhima Koregaon Battle in January this year. 10 policemen were injured and a young man lost his life in the violence that ensued on that day.
