The menace of coss-border drug-smughling
The smuggling of drugs in and out of country has become a menace for authorities. The authorities have sped up their effort to curb drug smuggling.
In a major breakthrough last month, the Border Security Force (BSF), exposed a large-scale drugs juggling racket involving underground bunkers in Nadia district of West Bengal. The underground bunkers were being used for storing contraband. A huge consignment of 62,200 bottles of banned cough syrup worth Rs 1.4 crore was seized. The operation was reportedly carried out by 32nd Battalion of the BSF’s South Bengal Frontier with the help of local police on inputs by intelligence agencies.
Cough syrup has codeine content which makes it popular among smugglers. The cough syrups were stacked in three underground storage tanks.
