The lawlessness in Karnataka after the takeover by Congress party in 2013 has been on the rise. Murders of BJP activists, communal clashes, a recent incident involving youth Congress leader Mohammed Nalapad Haris have been a testament to this fact.
Another shocking case of a Congress MLA’s aide named Narayananaswamy trying to set a government office on fire with a bottle of petrol has come to light. The video posted by local channels show Narayanaswamy splashing petrol from a bottle in the BBMP (Brihat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike) office at Horamavu (Bengaluru).
The reason for this rogue behaviour is the official’s refusal to comply with his demands. The official had reportedly refused to provide a fake ‘khata’ (land document) as per his demands. Narayanawamy is also the block president of KR Puram (Bengaluru). As per reports, the Congress MLA Byrati Basavaraj, who is Narayanaswamy’s boss, is a close associate of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

When the channel TV9 Kannada called up the MLA Byrati Basavaraj to ask for this response, he refused to take responsibility for his aide’s actions and claimed that he is a normal and respectable citizen. He said that his aide had acted as he did because of ‘deep grief’. When the channel asked if other citizens should also take a bottle of petrol to get their work done, he tried to dodge the question. He remarked that the anchor was talking too much and tried to shirk responsibility.
Will Siddaramiah bring the law and order situation in Karnataka under control and punish rogue elements within his party? We need to wait and watch.
