Press under attack? Zee media says AAP govt in Punjab has blacked out Zee channels in the state, calls it ‘state of emergency’: Details

On Tuesday, 28th May, in an unprecedented move, the Punjab Government banned all channels of Zee Media in the state. In a report, Zee News Hindi alleged that the step was taken by the government after Zee News raised issues related to the public and questioned the state government over its shortcomings amid the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Zee Media has questioned after this ban that if there is an “state of emergency” in Punjab.

Speaking to Zee News, BJP leader Jawahar Yadav said, “It is clear that media is not allowed to show the truth in Punjab without the approval of Aam Aadmi Party-led state government.” He urged those who accused the media personnel and channels of being “Godi Media” to come forward and express their views on the alleged ban imposed on Zee Media channels in the state. AAP-led Punjab Government is yet to issue any statement in the matter.

Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government is already facing heat as on 27th May, BJP’s Tajinder Bagga released a video of AAP’s minister Balkar Singh allegding that the AAP’s minister sexually exploited a 21-year female job seeker over a video call.

Punjab government’s decision to allegedly blackout Zee Media channels in the state came days before the state is scheduled to poll for Lok Sabha Elections 2024. The polling will take place on 1st June 2024, the last phase of polling in General Elections. The result will be announced on 4th June.

Rahul Gandhi promises to remove 50 pc reservation cap: Gandhi scion’s pipe dream bypasses SC order even as he ceaselessly accuses BJP of altering constitution

Even as political pundits and psephologists peg Congress to win not more than 40-80 Lok Sabha seats in the ongoing general elections, senior party leader Rahul Gandhi has been making fanciful claims should his party form a government at the centre.

In a recent political rally, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi announced today that Congress will eliminate the Supreme Court-imposed 50% limit on caste-based reservations and expand quota benefits for Dalit, backwards, and tribal communities.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi emphasized that the election aims to protect the Constitution. “The BJP and RSS want to undermine and alter the Constitution, while the Congress and the INDIA bloc strive to safeguard it. This Constitution grants you rights over water, forests, and land, which Narendra Modi seeks to abolish for absolute control,” he declared, holding up a copy of the Constitution.

Gandhi criticized BJP leaders for their intentions to alter the Constitution if victorious. “They’ve promoted the ‘400 seats’ slogan, but they won’t even secure 150 seats. They aim to eliminate reservations. From this platform, I pledge to increase reservations beyond the 50% cap, providing necessary quotas for the poor, backward classes, Dalits, and Adivasis,” he stated.

His comments come during an intense campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, marked by heated debates on reservations between the NDA and the INDIA bloc.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP have accused the Congress of planning to manipulate reservations for backward classes to favour Muslims, an allegation the Congress denies. At a rally in Banaskantha, Gujarat, Modi challenged the Congress to pledge not to misuse reservations based on religion or alter the Constitution for such purposes.

It is worth noting that something as substantial as extending the reservation quota and bypassing the Supreme Court verdict that mandates a reservation quota at 50 per cent would require a thumping majority in both houses of the parliament. But as per conservative estimates, the INDI alliance is struggling electorally almost across the length and breadth of the country.

Even if one assumes that Congress and its allies somehow manage to form a government at the centre, the fact that they would alter the constitution to end the 50 per cent reservation cap could spark social churn and outrage that could easily spill into civil war and violence, a prospect which the Wayanad MP seems to have overlooked.

Nevertheless, the broadsides against the BJP and RSS over altering the constitution were ironic, given that it is Rahul Gandhi himself who is claiming to change the constitution-mandated 50 per cent quota for reservations. Moreover, Congress is fighting the Lok Sabha elections in an alliance under the banner I.N.D.I, which comprises several regional political parties, including the SP, RJD, DMK, and others. He has not revealed whether the decision to alter the reservation quota has the approval of his alliance partners.

However, it is incredibly hilarious on the part of Congress and Rahul Gandhi to make sweeping promises such as extending the reservations when they are content playing second and, at times, third fiddle to the regional parties. For instance, in Uttar Pradesh, the state with the highest Lok Sabha seats, Congress is fighting on a paltry 17 out of 80 seats. In Bihar too, Congress has been subordinated to the secondary position by Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD. The scene in Tamil Nadu, where DMK is in power, is no different. But the biggest challenge for the Congress party from an opposition party is in Bengal, where the seat-sharing formula didn’t materialise as the TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee announced going solo into the elections.

These internecine challenges, along with the Modi juggernaut, which conservative estimates peg would only cross 272—the number of seats required to form a government—but also better its previous tally should have chastened Rahul Gandhi a bit in terms of promises he has been dishing out over the imaginary formation of the government with an opportunistic alliance whose partners have competing interests and differing priorities.

Yet, the Gandhi scion has been making a slew of promises in his election rallies, never bothering to account for the reality staring him in his face and explaining how his promise of altering the constitution is different from what he accuses PM Modi and the BJP of doing if they come to power for the third time.

Perhaps Gandhi realised that his alliance was not coming to power this year, so he embraced a scorched-earth policy, a total disregard for the country’s institutions, constitution, and, more importantly, people, in the forlorn hope of causing a substantial dent in the BJP’s margins of victory in the elections.

This is why Gandhi kept trotting out dangerous tropes, something he had been doing for a while now he and his party have always playing the catching-up game with the Modi government. At the Ratlam rally, Gandhi demonised the media by claiming they neglected atrocities against Adivasis. “Your children are raped, your land is seized, but the media remains silent because there are no Adivasis in media companies,” said Gandhi, which is another brazen attempt to pass the buck on the media to cover up the inadequacies of his party and leaders.

He also pointed out that the country’s governance is dominated by a small group of bureaucrats, with minimal representation from Adivasis, backward classes, and Dalits. “We aim to change this imbalance through a caste Census and an economic survey,” he said. Amit Shah had already countered this lie in 2023 when he revealed that the current batch of bureaucrats was from 1992 or earlier when BJP was not in power and the Congress governments had reserved categories only for SC and ST, and not OBC.

PM Modi to visit Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari for meditation after finishing Lok Sabha election campaign

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the famous Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari on May 30 to June 1 and meditate at the culmination of his Lok Sabha election campaign.

The Prime Minister will visit the Rock Memorial and will meditate day and night at the same place where Swami Vivekananda did meditation, at the Dhyan Mandapam from May 30 evening to June 1, evening.

Kanyakumari is the place where Swami Vivekananda had a vision of Bharat Mata.

This rock had a major impact on Swami Vivekananda’s life. People believe that like Sarnath holds a special place in the life of Gautam Buddha, this rock also holds a similar place in the life of Swami Vivekananda. It was here that he arrived after wandering across the country and mediated for 3 days and attained a vision for a developed India.

According to mythology, Goddess Parvati also meditated at the same place on one foot as she waited for Bhagwan Shiv.

This is the Southernmost tip of India. Further, this is the place where India’s Eastern and Western coastlines meet. It is also the meeting point of the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. PM Modi is sending a signal of national unity by going to Kanyakumari.

The Prime Minister is known to undertake spiritual journeys at the end of election campaigns. In line with this, he will reach Kanyakumari on May 30 and stay there till June 1. In 2019, he had visited Kedarnath, and in 2014 he visited Shivaji’s Pratapgarh.

The election for 543 Lok Sabha seats is being held in seven phases starting April 19. The counting of the votes will be held on June 4.

More legal troubles for AAP: Senior party leader Atishi summoned by Delhi Court in defamation case

On Tuesday (28th May), Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court issued summons to Delhi minister and AAP leader Atishi in a defamation case. Delhi BJP’s media head Praveen Shankar Kapoor had filed the defamation case over her claims that the saffron party approached AAP leaders to join their party in return for ₹20-30 crores each. The court has asked her to appear before the court on 29th June.

The Delhi court ordered, “Therefore, in view of the above discussion, there exist sufficient grounds to summon accused Atishi Marlena u/s 500 IPC. Accordingly, issue summons to accused Ms Atishi Marlena for offence u/s 500 IPC on filing of PF and RC as per rules.”

Earlier in April, BJP’s Delhi media head, Praveen Kapoor issued a defamation notice to the AAP leader. He emphasised that AAP leaders failed to furnish any material to substantiate their poaching claims. In his petition, the BJP leader had also named Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. However, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Tanya Bamniyal of the Rouse Avenue Courts said that no prima facie case was made against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for issuing summons to him.

The case pertains to Atishi Marlena’s remarks where she alleged that the BJP attempted to bribe and poach AAP legislators. Through his petition, Kapoor claimed the allegations damaged his and his party’s reputation. The court took cognisance of the allegations, identified Atishi as an accused, and ordered her to appear before the court on 29th June.

Additionally, in his petition, the BJP leader has also sought that Atishi should withdraw her remarks and issue an apology on TV and social media.

In his court application, Kapoor cited a social media post by Delhi CM and AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal, where he claimed that the BJP had approached seven AAP MLAs and offered them Rs 25 crore to switch parties.

He also included Atishi’s remarks where she alleged that she received an offer to join the BJP to “save” her “political career”. She had claimed that if she failed to comply, she would be arrested by the Enforcement Directorate.

Addressing a press conference in April, Atishi said, “The BJP has approached me through someone very close. They have asked me to join the BJP and said this will save my political career. They have threatened that if I don’t switch over, ED will arrest me within a month.”

Claiming that PM Modi and BJP wants to dismantle AAP, Atishi added, “I was told that I should enhance my political career by joining the BJP, otherwise the ED would arrest me within a month… Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP are determined to dismantle AAP and its leadership.”

It is pertinent to note that in the press conference, Atishi Marlena had also claimed that probing agencies would arrest her and her party colleagues including Saurabh Bharadwaj, Raghav Chadha, and Durgesh Pathak in the next two months.

UK govt realises teachers need protection from ‘blasphemy’ allegations: The threat of Islamist violence is already a reality in Europe

The government of the United Kingdom has realised that there is an urgent need to protect teachers from blasphemy allegations. To protect teachers from Islamist extremism within Europe, a government-commissioned report has put forth recommendations to ensure that the right to freedom of expression among teachers is legally upheld. The report came after the commission was set up following a series of incidents where teachers were subjected to violent backlash for their teachings. Notably, it is no longer uncommon for a teacher to face backlash from the Islamic community in Europe for anything and everything that Muslims feel is blasphemous.

The commission was chaired by the advisor on political violence and disruption, Lord Walney. In the report, the commission has put forth recommendations to ensure teachers freely and legally practice their freedom of expression. These proposals include barring the educational institutes from automatically suspending staff members in response to complaints of blasphemous actions against the teacher(s). It also provided clear guidance that there is no obligation on schools’ part to consult religious groups to find out if the content that is being studied in the schools is potentially “offensive” or not.

In a post on X, Walney said, “Encouraging to hear. Hope all parties will commit to this. Teachers could get legal protection from blasphemy claims.”

The recommendations came after a series of troubling incidents in the UK. For example, in 2021, a teacher from Batley Grammar School in West Yorkshire received death threats after he showed a cartoon of Prophet Mohammed from the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in the classroom during a religious studies lesson. The life of the teacher faced unrecoverable disruptions even though the investigation into the matter cleared his name. The investigation revealed he had no intention to offend anyone but he still had to go into hiding after the incident.

Another incident was reported in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, where a slightly damaged copy of the Quran at a High School was recorded as a “Hate Incident” by the local police. The overreaction from the authorities exposed how they succumbed to the pressure tactics of the Muslim community and imposed de facto blasphemy laws over small matters. Following the incidents, then-Home Secretary Suella Braverman introduced a code of conduct to protect freedom of expression. The report talked about several other such cases that happened at different schools leading to suspension of the teacher and threats to the teacher and his or her family.

Notably, the above-mentioned two incidents were not isolated. A trend of censoring teachers in schools in the name of “offending religious sensibilities” has been going on in the UK. According to a survey done by YouGov in 2023, it was revealed that one in every six teachers in the UK changed their curriculum on religion after the Batley controversy. Many teachers expressed concerns about intimidation and potential violent repercussions.

The report by Lord Walney underscored the necessity of guidelines to manage so-called blasphemy-related incidents. It would prevent schools from publicly identifying the teachers involved in such cases which would help in saving them from any aggressive harassment. It also aimed to rectify the deep impact on freedom of speech in the classrooms across the country.

Over time, the Islamist slogan of “Sar Tan Se Juda” has gained popularity across the world. Raised by Islamists, it means to call for beheading the person who insults Prophet Mohammed. The slogan found its roots in Pakistan and was echoed in the Indian subcontinent soon enough. The slogans later found a place within European Islamist circles. It is often used to intimidate and threaten people to stop them from saying anything against Islam.

“Ghustakh e Rasool Ki Ek Hi Saza, Sar Tan Se Juda”, means anyone who offends or disrespects the Prophet should be beheaded without fail. In Islam, the punishment for the apostate, the infidel and the blasphemer is death. The ideology has been manifested verbatim by countless fanatics across the world over centuries.

Suella Braverman and her predecessor Priti Patel have backed the recommendations tabled in the report by Walney. They emphasised the fact that Britain must not capitulate to Islamic Sharia laws under the guise of protecting religious sentiments. The leaders argued that the fundamental British values of freedom of speech and expression must be upheld. If someone feels his or her sentiments are hurt, they should choose formal processes to deal with it and not the mob rule.

Teachers, students and society at large need protection from any kind of Islamic violence and imposition of blasphemy codes. Especially when Europe finds it hard to resist the rising Islamic influence on the society.

‘Idea of PFI was to overthrow the govt and replace constitution with Sharia law’: Delhi HC denies bail to banned Islamist organisation PFI’s former chief E Abubacker in UAPA case

On Tuesday, May 28, the Delhi High Court dismissed a plea by former Popular Front of India (PFI) Chairman E Abubacker seeking his release in the UAPA case being probed by the NIA. While denying bail, the court bench of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain observed that the target of the banned Islamist organisation Popular Front of India (PFI) was to overthrow the democratically elected government of India and replace the constitution with the Sharia Law.

The court stated that it was obvious who the aim was—Hindu leaders who were to be killed, security forces to be attacked, and a Caliphate to be established by 2047.

“The planning of targeted killing of Hindu leaders and attacking the security forces and establishing Caliphate by 2047 would clearly indicate that the target was to challenge the, ‘unity and sovereignty of India’ and not merely to ‘overthrow the government’. Thus, the objective and manner of achieving the same, both, seem culpable,” the Court said.

The Court observed that PFI had been hosting terror camps, recruiting and radicalizing Muslim youth, and providing firearm training to those who planned to carry out acts of terrorism throughout the nation.

As a result, it was determined that, given the testimony of witnesses who indicted Abubacker, it was impossible to claim that the goal of creating a caliphate and the training were unrelated.

“Such statements also go on to show that objective of such weapon-training was with the idea of overthrowing the democratically elected government to replace the Constitution of India with a Caliphate Shariya Law,” the Court said.

It may be recalled that OpIndia had exclusively reported on PFI “India Vision 2047”, the 8-page PFI document that spoke about teaching a lesson to the “coward Hindus” of India. The 8-page PFI document underlined the PFI goal for the years ahead. In the document named ‘India Vision 2047’, PFI has circulated internally among its cadre that they aim to completely dominate the ‘coward Hindus’ and subjugate them and this goal will be achievable even with 10% of Muslims rallying behind PFI.

Meanwhile, Abubacker was arrested by the NIA in 2022 when the anti-terror agency launched a massive crackdown on the banned Islamist. He is currently lodged in judicial custody. Earlier, Abubacker had sought bail on medical grounds from the trial court but his bail was denied. After that, the banned organisation’s former chief sought relief from The High Court but has been denied bail there as well.

A bench of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain denied the bail while saying, “We hereby dismiss the appeal.” Abubacker sought his release on both merit as well as medical grounds.

In his plea, Abubacker contended that he was 70 years of age, and a cancer survivor who was battling Parkinson’s disease, and had made several visits to AIIMS during his custody. Thus, he should be granted bail on medical grounds.

However, the anti-terror agency NIA opposed the plea and stated that there were several cases against Abubacker and if released, nobody would depose against him.

The NIA apprehended Abubacker in September 2022 as part of a national operation to crack down against the now-banned organization. The agency charged him with violating the provisions of the Indian Penal Code Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The FIR in the case was registered under sections 120B and 153A of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and section 17, 18, 18B, 20, 22B 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

As per the agency, the PFI, its members and office bearers hatched a criminal conspiracy to raise funds for committing acts of terror across the country and were conducting training camps to indoctrinate and train their cadre for this purpose.

On September 27, 2022, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India banned the Islamist organisation Popular Front of India (PFI) and its associated or affiliated fronts with immediate effect for a period of five years by exercising its powers under sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA).

Icchadhaari protestor Yogendra Yadav declares that BJP’s victory will actually be BJP’s loss: Here is how he has been tying himself in knots to prove it

Icchadhari protestor-turned-politician-turned-protestor Yogendra Yadav has been on an interview spree in the role of an alleged psephologist again. Yadav recently bettered his brilliance in intellectual dishonesty while narrating his wishful thinking and seat predictions for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the ongoing general elections. The expelled AAP leader, now an aide of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Yadav recently opined that even if the BJP reaches the coveted halfway mark of 272 on its own and forms a majority government for the third straight time, it would actually be a loss of the saffron party.

Notably, as part of his agenda-setting drive regarding diminishing seats for the BJP-led NDA, Yogendra Yadav shared his ever-changing ‘Final numbers’ in an interview with the leftist outlet, The Red Mike. For those unversed, it is akin to the Chinese Final warning which was always the last and continued indefinitely without any real consequence. Likewise, Yadav, who has been ‘predicting’ a BJP loss for almost a decade now, with a heavy heart, displayed more generosity for the BJP in his final numbers. He stated that the saffron party could get somewhere around 248-260 seats. This gradual shift of 10-15 seats by his own admission, has been a constant in his ‘Mungeri Lal ke Haseen Sapne’ for several weeks now.

However, when the host Sanket Upadhyay asked him if the BJP secures 270 seats, would it not be a victory for the saffron party as it would be enough to form a government (a clear majority for a single party), and whether the opposition got played by PM Modi’s narrative slogan of ‘Abki baar 400 par’. To which Yadav replied, “Mein nhi manta…BJP ko agar 270 seats milte hai to wo BJP ki jeet hai.” (Translation – I don’t consider that BJP getting 270 seats will be a victory of the saffron party.)

It is pertinent to note that Yogendra Yadav, however, didn’t reject the submission of BJP’s tally going up by 10 more seats, as per his final numbers. While he painted 270 as a loss for the BJP, he inadvertently pegged the BJP’s tally around 270 seats, in his prediction.

Nonetheless, Yogendra Yadav further claimed that slowly the narrative around BJP’s seats has come down from their initial target of ‘370 for BJP and NDA 400 paar’ to BJP as well as NDA missing the 272 mark. According to him, the projected seats for BJP have come down from 370 to less than 250 among the political circles and the public.

However, Yogendra Yadav, who wears multiple hats and claims to know everything under the sun, didn’t elaborate on any specific reasons for the massive reduction of BJP’s seats by around 60-80. Click here, to read the breakdown of his lump-sum reduction of BJP’s seats. He didn’t clarify whether the ‘social engineering’ on the ground has changed or if NDA’s committed ideological voters have shifted towards I.N.D.I. alliance parties, or if the public has developed a sudden liking for the alliance leaders. Nonetheless, he justified the preconceived seat prediction by backtracking and stating that BJP’s seats will have to come down as it can’t go up where it has already reached saturation. For Yadav, it is simple when something can’t go up, it is a sure short guarantee that it has to come down. Does the logic really hold ground? Trust Yoya bro!

This benign argument has failed multiple times in the past, including in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The outdated notion and foregone conclusion of a reduction in mandate for an incumbent government due to anti-incumbency have fallen flat, as several BJP-ruled and other party-led governments have received better mandates in their subsequent elections, forcing poll pundits to seriously consider pro-incumbency as a factor or possibility.

Don’t count NDA, so BJP getting 250-270, etc is a loss for the saffron party: Yogendra Yadav

Further in the interview, Yogendra Yadav also claimed that Prashant Kishore and the media led a misleading campaign in his name.

According to him, misleading claims were peddled which stated that even Yogendra Yadav has accepted that BJP-led NDA will comfortably cross the majority mark. While he said it was wrong for Prashant Kishore to attribute words to him, he used Kishore’s logic to defend himself from the barrage of abuses he started getting from I.N.D.I. alliance supporters. He said that after it was reported that Yadav predicted NDA’s victory, a lot of supporters of the Congress party and I.N.D.I. alliance called him, ‘Aasteen ka saanp’ (A treacherous person) among other things.

The Congress man-Friday argued that he has not given up on his castle of imagination and continues to bat for the opposition bloc in the guise of a veteran political analyst and psephologist doing the interviews. According to Yadav, the discussion about seat predictions should happen only for the BJP, in a vacuum for the current formation or future shape of the NDA. In a bid to cover up his intellectual dishonesty, Yadav invoked Prashant Kishore’s argument that the true shape of NDA will be decided after the election results are announced. Notably, there have been conspiracy theories about the NCP factions, the entry or exit of some players from the NDA, which include a future course of action by Sharad Pawar, and the possible alliance of BJD with its former NDA partners.

However, in an intellectually dishonest argument, Yogendra Yadav extended Kishore’s logic to project the BJP as a politically untouchable party, saying, “Who knows, TDP may exit the NDA post-elections”. According to him, NDA partners should not be counted in discussions over seat predictions and the formation of the next government. Hence, the Left activist proved himself right in stating that BJP’s victory – registering seats close to the halfway mark or crossing it – would be a loss for the BJP. Extending Yogendra Yadav’s logic, the BJP-led NDA is evidently failing to comfortably secure a majority, and its projected numbers are dwindling. Why? Because, conveniently, one cannot incorporate the NDA’s figures when arguing with the disgraced entity who chooses his domain of expertise/career as per the want of the day.

While doing mental gymnastics and proving that at least BJP is losing in his figment of imagination, he buttered his bizarre argument by shunning logic, and political reality and not admitting to his own words. His arguments epitomise the old adage, “Chit bhi meri pat bhi meri, Sikka mere Baap ka…” (Translation – If it’s heads, I win; if it’s tails, you lose).

Yadav who claims to have expertise in all fields, fails to grasp that even in the naysayers’ worst seat predictions, the opposition and its lackeys have already conceded victory for the NDA, whether they predict 240 or 270 for BJP. He fails to see that out of two competing narratives, one has failed to nudge below 400 for the NDA, other one too has predicted a comfortable and third majority government for the NDA. It is not the BJP’s narrative that has budged from 400 to 272, rather opposition has been admitting with a heavy heart, that in all likelihood BJP-led NDA will form the next government.

‘Not okay for Head of school to like tweet that insults entire community’: Somaiya Trust Head writes to parents after sacking pro-Hamas Principal Parveen Shaikh

Three weeks after sacking the Principal of The Somaiya School Parveen Shaikh for supporting the Islamic terror outfit Hamas, the Head of the Mumbai-based Somaiya Trust has written to the students’ parents.

In an email, Samir Somaiya highlighted the reasons that led to the removal of Parveen Shaikh after serving as the Head of The Somaiya School for 7 years.

He pointed out that freedom of expression was not absolute and that Shaikh failed to set the right example for the students as the Principal of the esteemed educational institution. The transcript of the email is presented below:

Transcript of the email

Dear Friends,

Earlier this month, we were in the press extensively. We have faced a situation that has challenged the alignment of certain actions with our cherished principles of knowledge, inclusivity, and service. The social media activities of a former principal, until recently a member of our leadership team at The Somaiya School, were misaligned with the institution’s principles. What is strictly an administrative matter is being given a political colour.

It’s not acceptable for a head of a school to like a tweet that uses vulgar four letter words.

It’s not ok for a head of a school to like a tweet or a cartoon that offends or insults an entire community based on religion, caste, language, race, nationality or any other basis.

It’s not ok for a head of a school to like a tweet that abuses another country.

It’s not ok for a head of a school to describe anyone, let alone people occupying high office in the country in derogatory and insulting language.

It’s not ok for a head of a school to like tweets by institutions that may be perceived by many as supporting violence.

This behaviour is even more concerning if the social media account in question is also used by the head of the school to speak about the school and its achievements. In this case, it also concerns the conflation or perceived merging of an individual’s personal opinion with that of the organization they serve.

It’s also not ok for the head of an institution to defend the above behaviour as freedom of expression. Freedom of expression is not absolute and comes with responsibilities as all of us know from the communities we live in and the organizations we serve.

Heads of schools in particular have great influence on minds as young as age 3 and have to be particularly sensitive in setting the right example of influence in the physical and digital world.

The school management has a right to question its employees on the issues raised by stakeholders in light of the above, and take appropriate action to safeguard the interests of the school and its students.

We have been in service of education since 1942. The Somaiya School has blossomed because of its legacy, leadership at all levels, and the entire team of teachers and staff. We will continue to build an environment that upholds our tradition and build great citizens of India and the world.

Sincerely,

Samir Somaiya

Report that led to Parveen Shaikh’s sacking

OpIndia published a detailed report on 24th April 2024, exposing Parveen Shaikh’s unflinching support for Hamas, usual Hindu haters including Islamist preacher Zakir Naik, and 2020 anti-Hindu Delhi riots mastermind Umar Khalid among others.

Shaikh regularly ‘likes’ statements issued by Hamas in support of their ‘resistance’ against Israel. One should bare in mind that the Hamas and its sympathisers have terms to the 7th October massacre of innocent Jews as ‘resistance’.

In 2021, only a month after the Delhi anti-Hindu Riots, Parveen Shaikh liked a tweet by Sharjeel Usami, another accused, calling the entire Hindu society ‘radicalised’.

She also supports radicals such as Islamist preacher Zakir Naik and Umar Khalid, the mastermind of the anti-Hindu riots in Delhi. She also likes tweets holding Hindus liable for fundamentalist attacks on their sacred procession.

Furthermore, Shaikh enjoys dehumanising Hindus by portraying them as beggars in front of Arab countries and is opposed to the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

‘No Quran burning took place’: Haridwar Police busts disinformation peddled by Alt News cofounder and self-described fact checker Mohammed Zubair

Alt News cofounder and self-described fact-checker Mohammed Zubair was once again caught peddling lies after Uttarakhand Police refuted claims of a Quran-burning incident in the state.

Zubair had posted a tweet tagging Haridwar Police and Uttarakhand Police, asking them to look into the matter of a viral video showing a man in Roorkee allegedly burning Quran and stamping on it. The tweet by Zubair had instantly gone viral, racking up close to over 2,400 retweets at the time of writing this article. The tweet also garnered substantial engagement, with users demanding the police to act against the alleged culprit.

Mohammed Zubair tweets disinformation about the alleged burning of the Quran

However, realising the sensitivity of the matter, Haridwar Police swung into action and came out to dispel mistaken notions that Zubair’s tweet was spreading. From its official X account, the police tweeted that the said person is not living in the place where the incident was said to have taken place in the last three years. Furthermore, the police said there have been no incidents of disrespect to the Holy Quran taking place in the Haridwar district.

In addition to this, the police warned of legal action against those who spread claims without verifying them. Naturally, the police were alive to the law and order problem such unfounded allegations and old videos can cause, especially by someone like Mohammed Zubair, who had triggered a diplomatic crisis in 2022 when he shared an incomplete video of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma making comments on Prophet Muhammad to counter insults meted out on Hindu Gods by a fellow Muslim panellist.

The incomplete video of Sharma spitting facts derived from reliable Islamic hadiths spread like wildfire on social media, attracting riots and violence. Thousands of bloodthirsty Islamists took to the streets baying for the blood of the former BJP spokesperson, chanting Sar Tan Se Juda against her, and at least one instance of her effigy being hung up on a square. Subsequently, several people, including Kanhaiya Lal, Umesh Kolhe, and others became victims of Islamist violence after they extended support to beleaguered Sharma.

It is notable to mention that this is not the first time that Mohammed Zubair has been caught lying or posting provocative tweets aimed at dog-whistling his supporters. On several occasions, Zubair, his organisation, Alt News, and another cofounder, Pratik Sinha, were caught lying and spreading falsehoods.

In other instances, Alt News acts as an Islamic propaganda website using the cover of selective ‘fact-checking’ to shield Islamists and their sordid activities.

‘Had a dream about EVMs not counting votes’: Anti-India, pro-Congress ‘journalist’ narrates fictional story to cast aspersions on Indian elections

Ahead of the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections, anti-India propagandist Nitasha Kaul shared a fictional story on Monday (27th May) to cast aspersions on the integrity of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

EVMs have been the favourite topic of discussion for India’s Opposition. They have left no stone unturned in suggesting that the BJP has tampered with the electronic voting machines to skew the result in its favour.

Nitasha Kaul, who was previously invited by the Congress government in Karnataka to speak at a ‘Constitution and National Unity’ conference, claimed to have dreamt about EVMs not counting votes in India.

She conjectured a make-believe story to lend credence to the conspiracy theory mainstreamed by the Congress party about the Electronic Voting Machines.

“Recently, at a workshop lunch, I was telling a British colleague that I’d not slept well prev night due to dreams where people were voting on EVMs but votes were not being counted. A Turkish colleague overheard & said he too used to have troubled dreams during Erdogan’s elections in Turkey!” Nitasha Kaul claimed.

She was quick to make her intention clear behind propagating the fictional story about her dream. “The 4th June results will be most consequential for #democracy in #India,” the anti-India propagandist said.

“For me, they are crucial not only as someone who has been barred from India for working on increasing authoritarianism under Modi but also personally as they will determine if I can touch my mother again!” Nitasha Kaul concluded.

Who is Nitasha Kaul

An Indian-origin ‘academician’ and ‘author’, Nitasha Kaul has been at the helm of undermining India’s sovereignty and peddling propaganda against the Indian Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

In February, OpIndia reported how Nitasha Kaul had been making a case for radical Islamic terrorism in Kashmir by downplaying acts of terror as a ‘right to protest’ against supposed ‘repression’ by the Indian government.

She had previously spread falsehoods about the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), and participated in events organised by radical Islamic outfits such as ‘Stand With Kashmir (SWK)’, ‘Kashmir Solidarity Movement (KSM)’, and ‘Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC)’.

Kaul had been at the forefront of cancelling PM Modi’s address at the Wharton School of Business. The anti-India propagandist also mocked the death of former Chief of Defence Staff (CoDS) Bipin Rawat in December 2021.

Nitasha Kaul seemed to justify his untimely death by presenting him as an ‘enemy of Kashmiris’.
