Hoardings of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi chief Prakash Ambedkar with Aurangzeb’s picture in it, were put up in the Mahim area of Mumbai, police said on Thursday.
“Posters were put up at night, no information yet on who put them up. It has been removed now. No complaint received so far,” Mumbai Police said.
According to the police, they will register an FIR against unknown people if law and order are disturbed. Further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Minister and Shiv Sena leader Deepak Kesarkar reacted to the matter and said Uddhav Thackeray’s new love for Aurangzeb can be seen.
“Uddhav Thackeray’s new love for Aurangzeb can be seen. Those who’re compromising with Hindutva, won’t be forgiven by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” Kesarkar added.
Earlier on June 19, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday that no Muslim in India is a descendant of Aurangzeb, and nationalist Muslims in the country do not recognize the Mughal emperor as their ruler.
Fadnavis also said that there is only one king, and that is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the Muslims also respect him.
“Our king is only Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. We cannot have another king. Muslims in India are not descendants of Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb and his clan came from outside,” he added.
Earlier on Thursday, June 8, tension simmered in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur after some youth allegedly posted objectionable posts on social media with a reference to Aurangzeb and Tipu Sultan.

“Right to Education” is one of the fundamental rights mentioned in the constitution of India. Since 1947, every Indian government led by different political parties has put enormous efforts to protect this right. However, one of the biggest achievements was made when Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and President APJ Abdul Kalam worked together to launch the “Education for All” campaign in 2001. The nation witnessed an unprecedented willingness of the Government to prioritize educating the mass.
In 2014, following a decade of corrupt governments led by the Indian National Congress party, people unanimously elected Narendra Modi from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the Prime Minister of India. Just before the pandemic, the then finance minister, the late Mr. Arun Jaitley had made a significant statement in the 2018 budget session that the Government was aiming to double the contribution of GDP in our Education system.
This statement indicated the Government’s sincere attempt to revamp the education system. Finally, in 2020 during the pandemic, the Government introduced the New Education Policy (NEP 2020). Interestingly it was done when the global pandemic was raging, Indian scientists were making indigenous vaccines against the Coronavirus and India was feeding no less than 800 million of her population free of cost under the PM-GKAY scheme. On top of that, we had to deal with neighbours like China and Pakistan on the military front.
While India was managing multiple threats and still growing on the economic front, the entitled Western world had already surrendered to the virus. India not only manufactured her own vaccines but also helped neighbouring countries and poorer nations of the world by supplying them vaccines, often free of cost. While the giant pharmaceutics of the West were lobbying for their respective governments in return for vaccines, India was helping the world while taking care of 1.4 billion of her own.
Now, post-pandemic, it becomes increasingly difficult for financially richer “first world countries” to sit on a moral high horse and continue to preach a third-world challenger who has emerged as the only bright spot on the world economic stage. Hence, based on fake news and with the help of half-baked journalists, a smear campaign is launched where it is declared that the Indian education board removes chapters on Periodic Table and Evolution for students in middle school. What it deliberately omits is the simple fact that all those students will learn those topics in high school as explained in detail by Prof. VS Baswanath from the SRM University AP.
The Government proposal on New Educational Policy (NEP 2020) was highly praised as it was the first step towards fulfilling Swami Vivekananda’s educational philosophy on nation-building. Being the world’s largest democracy and following its own civilization traditions, the Government of India has always been open to accepting constructive criticism to improve the education system. However, it is always possible to find a sell-out in any country. Similarly in India, finding an elitist anglophile who loathes the present government is readily available too.
These academic activists are motivated by nothing more than personal hatred for the present dispensation. They go to the extent of misguiding renowned science journalists and the Western world with tampered information. A simple rescheduling of the curriculum is pointed out as removal, making it the source of all misinformation going around. While the West, already facing the loss of face on the world stage for mismanagement during the pandemic with much less population and much more financial equity than a populous country like India, laps it up for moral oneupmanship. A country that is publicly celebrating her scientists for their service during the pandemic would do anything but remove basic tenets of science like evolution and the periodic table from the curriculum.
It was quite striking that a reputed journal like Nature published an editorial to criticize India’s educational policy based on the recent rescheduling of the textbook. The mention of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS, alleged ideological source of the present Indian government) makes the agenda clearer. Recently, as the Indian education board, the NCERT clarified its stand in a series of tweets, it became clear that the editorial in Nature was based on fabricated data. The question is why was the information not cross-checked with NCERT themselves before publishing the article? It reflects lazy journalism. Renowned journalists and publishing houses are expected to be better than that.
Interestingly, it is not the first time such misleading claims about India have been made by the Western media. An editorial on the abrogation of Article 370 was published in the famous medicine journal Lancet. We witnessed that different Western media houses doubted the success of the Indian army’s surgical strike on cross-border terror camps. Most recently, BBC’s biased documentary on the Gujarat riots made it to the headlines. The smear campaign against the status quo seems to be a regular adventure for the preachy, sanctimonious Western media.
During the pandemic, many models were published that predicted India would face hundreds of thousand of deaths due to covid third wave. A cohort of economists with a couple of Nobel laureates has been constantly criticizing India’s economic policy. Blowing all doubts away, the outstanding vaccination policy helped India overcome the threat of the pandemic. The effective financial planning of the Government is steadily taking India towards achieving the target of a 5 trillion-dollar economy.
It is naive to think the media is politically unbiased and they prefer to sell reports based on their political beliefs. But scientific journals are expected not to behave the same. Scientific journals publish results based on scientific observation. So, it is shocking that journals like Nature started publishing news rife with political connotations.
By this time, the people of India have realized that a large group of politically biased economists and scientists holding high positions are involved in spreading fear among Indian voters by agitating them against the Government’s policy. They have lost all credibility over the last decade. So, their latest attempt to spread panic among the voters by softly targeting the education system is out in the open. Unfortunately, this time Nature got trapped in this political war, hopefully unknowingly. To keep its reputation and glory, Nature must clarify their position regarding its editorial published on 31st May under the headline “India Cuts Periodic Table and Evolution from School Textbooks”. Keeping the scientific fervour intact, the misleading article should be retracted.
The falsified editorial in Nature must be considered as “Wrongium, the Media’s Favourite Element” as brilliantly articulated by Prof. Salvatore Babones of University of Sydney in Australia. The least Nature can do is retract the article and publish an apology.
But why has a group of people in India been purposely denigrating their own democratically elected Government in front of the world media? It is probably because India is moving forward to regain the glory of its own pluralistic idea based on Hinduism and rapidly shedding her misplaced ideals of “Gandhi- Nehruvian” pacifism that has had a devastating effect on its indigenous populace for the last seven decades.
For Hindus, religiosity comes from our overall way of life, it is quite different from Abrahamics for whom the ways of life come from their religion. Those who are facing an existential crisis and suffering from an inferiority complex to disclose their socio-political ideology in front will be more frustrated in the coming years; hence, they will put more effort to denigrate the country’s progress by exploiting Western media.
The tranquilly that prevailed in the quiet town of Amravati in Maharashtra was shattered on the dreadful night of 21 June 2022, when bloodthirsty Islamists brutally hacked chemist Umesh Kolhe, 54, to death while he was on his way back home after shutting his store.
Kolhe was mercilessly murdered for sharing a social media post supporting former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma.
Former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s alleged ‘blasphemous’ remark about Prophet Muhammad on May 26 sparked outrage amongst Islamists in India and worldwide. Her decision to merely quote an excerpt from the Islamic Hadith during a TV show proved catastrophic for her political career and mental peace after AltNews co-founder Mohammed Zubair dog-whistled about her comments to Islamists.
This set off a series of incidents culminating in a constant barrage of threats at Sharma and attacks on those who dared to speak out in her support, many of which were extremely brutal. Notably, Umesh Kolhe was one such several Hindus who fell prey to the ire of Jihadis for extending support to Nupur Sharma.
What did Umesh Kolhe’s post-mortem report reveal
According to reports, Islamists had stabbed Kolhe on the left side of his neck. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, and the pharmacist succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The postmortem report of Amravati chemist Umesh Kolhe revealed that his brain vein was damaged due to the knife attack. Besides, his breathing tube, oesophagus, and nerves of his eyes were also damaged in this attack. The wound found on Umesh’s neck was five inches wide, seven inches long and five inches deep.
The CCTV footage reveals recce
After the murder, when the police started the investigation, they got some CCTV footage before the incident. In the video, three accused dressed in black are seen doing recce of the place. In another footage, the three accused are seen heading toward the spot to execute the murder.
The police had made misleading claims
The police had also come under scanner in the Amravati murder case. The police were accused of deliberately describing the hate crime as a robbery killing and concealing that the reason for the murder was a post in support of Nupur Sharma, while the Maharashtra ATS was already investigating the case from the terror angle. Police had claimed that it was a robbery case gone wrong, as the accused had killed Kolhe after he refused to give them anything. But this claim was questioned by many, including Maharashtra BJP leaders, because the accused have no past criminal records, and they didn’t take anything from Kolhe after attacking him. Umesh Kolhe was carrying around Rs 3000 cash and had his phone with him, which was found at the crime scene.
The brutal murder of Umesh Kolhe sent shockwaves throughout the country. Seeing the seriousness of the matter Union HM Amit Shah handed the probe of the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
On July 2 last year, the NIA re-registered the case and took over the investigation. The case was registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) Sections 16, 18, and 20 and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 34, 153 (A), 153 (B), 120 (B), and 302.
In August 2022, the NIA arrested two more accused in the case. The duo was identified as 23-year-old Abdul Arbaz and 41-year-Maulavi Mushfique Ahmad. The other arrested accused in the case include Irfan Khan (35), Yusuf Khan (44), Muddsir Ahmad (22), Shahrukh Pathan (25), Abdul Thoufique (24) Shoaib Khan (22), and Atib Rashid (22).
On September 12, the NIA declared a monetary reward of Rs 2 lakh to anyone who would provide leading information to arrest the absconding accused Shameem Ahmed. On September 22 it was reported that NIA arrested the absconding killer from Mumbai.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) received a 90-day extension from a special court in the same month to submit the charge sheet in the case, which the agency did on December 16.
NIA filed chargesheet against 11 Islamists in Umesh Kolhe murder case
On December 16, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), investigating the murder case of Amravati’s pharmacist Umesh Kolhe, filed a chargesheet in the Mumbai NIA court against the 11 arrested accused.
Those named in the charge sheet are Mubashir Ahmed, Shahrukh Khan, Abdul Tausheef Sheikh, Mohd Shoeb, Atib Rashid, Yusuf Khan, Irfan Khan, Abdul Arbaz, Musfeeq Ahmed, Sheikh Shakeel, and Shahim Ahmed.
Source: Nagpur Today
According to the charge sheet, the 11 accused hatched a conspiracy, acquired the murder weapon, plotted their strategy so that the pharmacist’s whereabouts could be traced, and then premeditatedly killed him.
As the investigations in the Umesh Kolhe murder case in Amravati of Maharashtra progressed, it was revealed in the police investigation that Dr Yusuf Khan, the eldest of the arrested accused instigated all the murderers for this murder.
Dr. Yusuf Khan was a good friend of Umesh Kolhe who had helped him many times. Dr Yusuf Khan was the admin of the WhatsApp group in which Umesh Kolhe had shared a post supporting former Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Nupur Sharma, which led to his murder.
Umesh Kolhe’s murderers were all closely related, as several of them worked with an NGO run by the key conspirator Sheikh Irfan, who has been identified as the mastermind behind the crime.
Dr Yusuf Khan, friend of Umesh Kolhe, was the instigator
Veterinary doctor Yusuf Khan and chemist Umesh Kolhe knew each other for the past several years, and they were good friends. Yusuf Khan often sought help from Umesh Kolhe who seldom disappointed his friend. He used to lend money to Yusuf Khan in hours of need. Umesh Kolhe had helped Dr Yusuf Khan at the time of his sister’s wedding and his children’s admissions too. Despite such good relations, Dr Yusuf Khan conspired to kill Umesh Kolhe.
Dr Yusuf Khan is the eldest among the arrested accused. He was supposed to keep a watch on viral messages on social media and identify the targets. He was the admin of the group called Black Freedom in which Umesh Kolhe had shared a post supporting Nupur Sharma. Dr Yusuf Khan shared this information with another group called Rahebariya and informed his friends Sheikh Irrfan and others, and created hatred in their minds for Umesh Kolhe.
Sheikh Irrfan planned the attack on Umesh Kolhe
After Dr Yusuf Khan spread hatred against Umesh Kolhe, Sheikh Irfan came into action. He planned the murder. He gave the responsibility of recce to Maulana Mudassir Ahmed alias Sonu Raza Sheikh Ibrahim. After this, Sheikh Irfan involved daily wage workers in this plan. They included Shahrukh Pathan (age 25), Abdul Taufiq (age 24), Shoaib Khan alias Bhurya (age 22), and Atib Rashid (age 22). On the night of June 21, Shoaib stabbed Umesh Kolhe in his neck. None of these four criminals has any past criminal record.
Irfan resided in the Pathan Chowk Chawl in the Kamela Area. His neighbours said that he was a welder but the epidemic caused problems for his welding business. Irfan ran a registered NGO called Rahebar that worked for differently-abled according to its Facebook page. The four daily wage workers he chose to execute the murder had previously volunteered for this NGO.
Accused were members of Tablighi Jamaat, were highly influenced by the ideology of ‘Gustakh-E-Nabi Ki Ek Saza, Sar Tan Se Juda’: NIA
The NIA chargesheet stated that the accused were radicalized members of Tablighi Jamaat. The officials also said that the accused were persuaded by two ‘social activists’ identified as Irfan Khan and Maulavi Mushfique Ahmad.
The accused were also highly influenced by the ideology of “Gustakh-E-Nabi Ki Ek Saza, Sar Tan Se Juda.” (Beheading is the only punishment for anyone who criticizes the Prophet), the chargesheet stated.
The investigating agency had revealed that this was the second attempt of the radicalized group to murder the pharmacist. The first attempt was made on June 20, 2022, and failed.
On June 20, the accused were to eliminate him when he was leaving for his medical shop. The strategy, however, failed when Kolhe did not show up. After this, Irfan developed another strategy and formed a spy unit to monitor Kolhe’s movements to execute their conspiracy. On the night of June 20, the gang then reconvened with other accused, including Shaikh Shakil, Abdul Arbaz Mudassir Ahmed, Abdul Taufeeque Shaikh, and Atib, to replan Kolhe’s murder.
The plan to eliminate Kolhe began with one of the accused Dr Yusuf Khan propagating a post by Kolhe on one of the social media groups named ‘black freedom’ on June 14. According to the NIA, Yusuf purposefully took screenshots of the message after altering Kolhe’s phone number and disseminated it in another group called “Kalim Ibrahim,” which was founded by Irfan and others. The NIA asserted that the plan to kill Kolhe began with the dissemination of texts.
Kolhe was a ‘Law-abiding Citizen’
Kolhe was described by the NIA as a “law-abiding citizen” who had no adverse history of conflicts with anyone, let alone the accused in particular.
“He exercised his right to free speech in a free country and declared his support to the alleged controversial remarks of Sharma. His execution is not a simple act of murder carried out intending to merely punish him for an alleged blasphemy so committed.
“It is an act of terror, by a gang of radicalised men who wanted to make an example out of the victim’s murder. It was done in a manner that shall send shivers down the spine of the general population of this peace-loving democratic country, who would never dare to speak up, for what they think is right or wrong,” NIA said.
The NIA highlighted the brutality of killing a father in front of his son in a public place, adding that the act was carried out “with proper planning” and that “celebrating the act with an intention to strike terror in a large section of society is, to say the least, a terrorist action.”
The murder sparked riots in several locations, terrorised some into quitting their jobs, forced many to hide, and made many people fear for their safety and lives. According to the NIA, such terrorist activity has called India’s integrity and tenacity into question.
According to the NIA, the beheading of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal, who was killed in his shop by two Islamist fundamentalists on June 28 over the same issue of supporting BJP leader Nupur Sharma, occurred a week after Kolhe’s murder.
The two Islamists who had killed Kanhaiya Lal later made a video and even released it online. After the murder, several communal clashes broke out in various states, leading to the registration of multiple FIRs.
According to the NIA, the same ideology of some religiously radicalised individuals was present in all the FIRs, and the same “Sar Tan Se Juda” slogan terrorised those who supported ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and advocated for free speech.
Besides Umesh Khole and Kanhaiya Lal, several other people were also murdered or brutally assaulted by Jihadis for extending support to Nupur Sharma. Here is our article detailing those incidents.
Massive protests erupted in Delhi’s Mandawali area on Thursday after the state government sent forces on the spot to execute the demolition of an old Shani and Hanuman temple. Hindus gathered around the temple on the morning of June 22 and protested against the government’s decision to demolish the temple.
The video of the protests went viral over social media in which the police staff deployed at the temple could be seen pushing the protesters backward as the latter demanded to stop the temple demolition. The protesters also could be seen chanting Hanuman and Shani hymns while they gathered on the streets.
#WATCH | A large number of people protest against the removal of a portion of a temple in Delhi's Mandawali area.
As per the initial information, the Public Works Department (PWD) Delhi issued a notice to the temple authorities on June 21 regarding the demolition of the temple. As per the temple authorities, the notice had been issued based on the complaint filed by three persons identified as Javed, Mansoor, and Naushad.
— Sagar Kumar “Sudarshan News” (@KumaarSaagar) June 21, 2023
The protesters have condemned the notice and are demanding that the temple not be demolished. Notably, this is not the first of its kind incident happening in Delhi. Earlier also the government has demolished or attempted to demolish several Hindu temples in the state.
Hindu temples demolished by Delhi government in the recent past
On March 15, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officials demolished a Hanuman temple built about fifty years ago. During the demolition drive the portrait of Lord Hanuman was also trampled. The temple was located in the city’s Shankar road area in the Rajendra Nagar neighborhood.
Then last week, a local news channel had reported that the authorities had attempted to demolish a 100-year-old Hanumana temple in the Bhajanpura area of Delhi.
Also, on May 14, the Delhi High Court cleared the path for the demolition of a 55-year-old Kali Mata Mandir at Mayapuri Chowk. The court had noted that the footpath for pedestrians as also the road has been encroached on by the temple which is ‘not permissible’.
In the current given case, VHP Delhi leader commented on the issue and said that the AAP government is targeting the Hindu temples deliberately to appease some particular community for votes. The protesters today could be seen chanting Hanuman and Shani stotra while they gathered on the streets to protest against the demolition of the old Shani and Hanuman temple located in Delhi’s Mandawali area.
A case has been registered against 77 newly appointed differently-abled teachers in connection with fake disability certificates in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district, a police official said on Wednesday.
The action was taken following the complaint of the District Education Officer (DEO), Morena. DEO Anup Kumar Pathak said, “A total of 750 teachers have been appointed from the disability quota across the state, out of which 450 disabled certificates have been found to be issued from Morena District Hospital. After that on the instruction of the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI), Bhopal, Morena district collector conducted an inquiry into the matter.
During the investigation, out of 257 disability certificates, 77 such certificates were found, which were not examined in Morena. After that an FIR was registered against all those candidates on the instruction of senior officials at Kotwali police station Morena. The police administration are further investigating the matter, he added.
Kotwali police station in charge, Yogendra Singh Jadaun said, “DEO Pathak submitted an application in which it was found that 77 teachers got the jobs by making false certificates. We verified it and registered a case against all those accused teachers. Further investigation into the matter is underway. These teachers are posted in different districts across Madhya Pradesh.”

An ex-deputy head teacher of an elementary school in London has pleaded guilty to paying and ordering youngsters in India, where he worked for seven years, to send him over 120,000 obscene pictures of young students.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) reported that East Dulwich resident Matthew Smith, 34, was charged on Tuesday with five offences, including causing the sexual exploitation of a child under 13, and was held in custody.
Smith was detained in November 2022 after it was discovered through investigations that he was disseminating abusive content on the dark web. He will be sentenced at the Southwark Crown Court on August 4.
According to National Crime Agency, he had been talking to a juvenile boy in India online at the time of his arrest and encouraging him to give sexual photographs of a younger child in exchange for money. On his computer, he also had forums and dark web pages devoted to child sex abuse open.
By examining chat logs and money transactions, NCA officers proved that Smith had paid the same youngster and another who was also situated in India GBP 65,398 over a five-year period. Officers discovered more than 120,000 lewd photos of minors that Smith had saved on his phone, an SD card, and the laptop.
Helen Dore, Senior Officer of the National Crime Agency commented on the issue and said, “Matthew Smith was a high-risk individual and we moved quickly to locate, arrest and remand him so he could no longer pose a threat to children. Ultimately, we were able to prove that he was a prolific offender who manipulated young men to sexually abuse children on his behalf, giving them detailed instructions and financial reward.”
Claire Brinton, Specialist Prosecutor in the Crown Prosecution Service Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit, said, “Thousands of images and videos were recovered from his devices which showed an appalling catalogue of sexual abuse being perpetrated on children. Smith offered individuals payments for indecent images to gratify his own sexual desires, which resulted in the horrifying abuse of young children in India.”
Smith spent most of this period living in Nepal and working at a school. Between 2007 and 2014, he worked intermittently in orphanages and NGOs all around India. He returned to the UK in July 2022, and in September he started working as a deputy head teacher and head of pastoral care at the primary school in London.
The chat records revealed that Smith would tell the young guys to have sex with boys while also sending them pictures and videos of sex acts he would like to see in return. Smith pleaded guilty to the initial offences in November 2022. He appeared at Southwark Crown Court on June 20 where he pleaded guilty to the additional charges. He’ll be sentenced at the same court on 4 August 2023.
Amid Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official state visit to the United States, US Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont targeted him, claiming PM Modi-led Indian Government has cracked down on the press and civil society. He further claimed that the Modi government had jailed political opponents and aggressively pushed Hindu nationalism leaving little space for the minorities in the country.
Prime Minister Modi's government has cracked down on the press and civil society, jailed political opponents, and pushed an aggressive Hindu nationalism that leaves little space for India's religious minorities. President Biden should raise these facts in his meeting with Modi.
In a tweet, he wrote, “Prime Minister Modi’s government has cracked down on the press and civil society, jailed political opponents, and pushed an aggressive Hindu nationalism that leaves little space for India’s religious minorities. President Biden should raise these facts in his meeting with Modi.” Interestingly, his statement came at a time when former President Donald Trump is looking at a possible jail time for 400 years.
During his meeting with PM Modi, Sanders was also one of the signatories among 75 US lawmakers who wrote to President Biden urging him to raise questions on “human rights” and other issues.
This is not the first time Sanders has propagated fake news against India. In 2020, he claimed Delhi Riots were anti-Muslim but in reality, they were against Hindus which has been said by the court as well.
Over 200 million Muslims call India home. Widespread anti-Muslim mob violence has killed at least 27 and injured many more. Trump responds by saying, "That's up to India." This is a failure of leadership on human rights.https://t.co/tUX713Bz9Y
Sanders claimed that Modi Government has cracked down on the press. If that was the case, portals like The Wire, Scroll, and others would not have survived in the country. Furthermore, the government would have crushed propaganda peddlers and known anti-Modi individuals like Muhammed Zubair, Pratik Sinha, Rana Ayyub, Arfa Khanum, Ravish Kumar and others. On the contrary, they are flourishing and minting money by spreading propaganda.
Another aspect of the tweet can be directed to the latest Press Freedom ranking by Reporters Without Borders, which ranked India at 161 out of 180 countries. OpIndia debunked the ranking. Reporters Without Borders ranked India in press freedom based on dubious reports and false data. They claimed the central government is spending more than 130 billion rupees (Rs 13,000 crores) or 5 billion euros a year on print and online media ads alone. However, OpIndia’s RTI showed India had spent less than 1,000 crores on government advertisements in all formats per year.
Furthermore, the ranking was based on dubious and half-baked reports of journalists being tried, arrested, and jailed. The report mentioned Siddique Kappan, Rana Ayyub, Fahad Shah, Irfan Mehraj and others. Interestingly, all of them have valid cases against them in court. Our detailed report on Press Freedom ranking can be checked here.
From The Wire or BBC that faced action from investigating agencies indulged in practices against the law. The Wire defamed India by cooking two investigating stories, one on a fake, imaginary app called Tek Fog and the second on BJP having unrestricted power in Meta. Our coverage on both can be read here and here.
BBC is facing action for alleged tax evasion. It has been claimed that the action was taken in light of a controversial documentary against PM Modi that was banned in India, but that is not the case. Not to forget, BBC is still functioning in India, and the central government has not banned the media house.
There is no danger to civil society
There are numerous NGOs, professional protesters, and activists who, despite their anti-Modi, anti-BJP and anti-India stand, are working freely in the country. The government of India debunks their claims occasionally, but no one has come under illegal detention or faced any atrocities from the government. Few members of the so-called civil society are facing serious charges under Acts like UAPA. Furthermore, some NGOs have either shut down their shops or lost FCRA licenses. But there is a reason for every arrest in such cases.
For example, Umar Khalid, one of the so-called activists that rose to “fame” after anti-India slogans, is under judicial custody as a case under UAPA is ongoing against him. Khalid was allegedly one of the co-conspirators of the anti-Hindu riots in Delhi in 2020. Another example is Sharjeel Imam, arrested and facing trial for his alleged anti-India comments. Imam vouched for cutting northeast from the rest of the country and gave provocative speeches during anti-CAA protests fanning communal violence.
NGOs like Amnesty India have shut down shops in India. Amnesty India was booked by investigating agencies for collecting foreign funds without an FCRA license. They actively propagated against India, and Amnesty International continues to do so. Home Ministry has canceled FCRA licenses of thousands of NGOs since the Modi government came to power in 2014. In most of the cases, they either did not apply to renew the license or were found to be utilizing FCRA funds against the law.
No political opponents have been jailed
Sanders claimed the Indian government had jailed political opponents. The only political leaders behind bars are Aam Aadmi Party, Satyendra Jain and Manish Sisodia. While AAP and other parties have claimed they are “political opponents” of PM Modi, it has to be noted that AAP has virtually zero presence on the national level. The party has governments in a half state, i.e. Delhi and Punjab. Apart from that, wherever they have contested elections, most of their candidates lost deposits, including UP, Goa and Gujarat.
Now coming to Satyendra Jain and Manish Sisodia, while the former is facing charges of money laundering, the latter is facing charges in excise policy scam case. In both cases, the courts have denied them bail. In the case of Jain, the High Court categorically said prima facie his role was evident in the matter. Bail to Sisodia has been denied by the courts multiple times on similar grounds. Both matters are sub-judice.
Another political opponent that is facing a court case is Rahul Gandhi, who the Sessions Court convicted in a defamation case. He was disqualified from the Lok Sabha following the conviction. A court stayed his conviction. Gandhi has a history of making defamatory remarks, and he had to apologise for the same in the Supreme Court. However, he continued to make derogatory remarks against PM Modi, RSS, BJP leader and even freedom fighters, including Veer Savarkar.
Ironically, Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi’s most vocal political opponent, has been free as a bird, even touring the USA, and has never been jailed.
Religious minorities are safe in India
The next claim that Sanders raised was that the religious minorities have little space left in the country as PM Modi is pushing Hindu nationalism. In reality, despite being in the majority, Hindus have the least voice in the country. While a minor incident against a minority is propagated as if there has been a catastrophic incident in India, Hindus die without any much highlight in the media. Take the example of Tasleem Ahmed Rehmani, who had provoked former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma during a debate by using derogatory language against Bhagwan Shiv. While he was the reason for what Sharma said what she said, it was twisted and used against Hindus. Alt News’ Zubair played a vital role in setting a target on Sharma’s head. In the aftermath, Hindus, including Kanhaiya Lal and Umesh Kohle, were killed by Islamists merely for supporting Sharma.
The ban on terrorist organisation Popular Front of India has been propagated as an attack on Muslims. In reality, the organization was working against India and trying to establish Sharia Law in India by 2047. They were behind several terrorist attacks, luring naïve Muslim youth into extremism to join terrorist outfits.
Contrary to the notion that minorities are under threat in India, the government of India has worked extensively for the betterment of the marginalized. Schemes like Ujjawala Yojna, Awas Yojna, loan schemes, and pension schemes have been designed and implemented at extensive levels by the Union Government.
Donald Trump looks at up to 400 years in prison
Former President Donald Trump is facing charges of allegedly unlawfully storing national security documents when he left office. The authorities also claimed that he lied to the officials who sought to recover the documents. Trump was arrested and presented in court, where he pleaded not guilty. His supporters said the charges against him were fabricated. If proven guilty by the court, Trump may face prison of up to 400 years.
The Uttar Pradesh Police has filed an FIR against a man identified as Jameel for raping a Hindu woman. The accused posed as a Hindu person named Shailendra to trap the Hindu woman in a love affair and then forced her to marry him. Later, he made the victim a hostage and raped her with his friends.
According to the reports, the incident is said to have taken place in the Raebareli district of Uttar Pradesh. The FIR has been filed by the police based on the complaint filed by the victim woman.
The Hindu victim woman in the complaint said that the accused posed as a Hindu person named Shailendra. He used to meet her when she would go to drop her younger brother at school. One day he expressed his love for her and promised to marry her. He also established sexual relations with her before marriage.
The original identity of the accused was exposed after the duo decided to marry each other in March this year. The woman said that while signing the marriage documents, ‘Shailendra’ wrote his name as Jameel. He also submitted his Aadhaar card during the process which had his original name on it. She said she was shocked when she found out that ‘Shailendra’ belonged to another religion. She tried to refuse to marry him, but she was forced to sign the marriage documents.
As per the reports, the woman was then kept hostage in an unidentified apartment. The accused raped her there and he also allowed his friends to rape her for money. The woman somehow managed to escape from there and reached her family to reveal the shocking sequence of events.
She then registered a police complaint based on which an FIR has been filed in the case. CO Vandana Singh confirmed the incident and stated that the police is looking for the accused. She also said that the girl was forced to change her religion. Further investigations into the case are underway.
On Wednesday, June 21, a group of Naxalites killed a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former sarpanch, Kaka Arjun in the Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh. A note found on his body, dumped in the middle of the road, read that he was killed because he worked for the BJP. Madded area committee of Maoists have claimed responsibility for the killing.
Chhattisgarh | "Naxals killed a BJP leader, Kaka Arjun near Ilmidi village in Bijapur," says Additional SP Chandrakant Governa
Arjun was the secretary of the BJP Bijapur district unit’s Scheduled Tribe wing, as per the party.
Arjun is the fifth BJP leader to be killed by Maoists this year. Notably, the murder happened a day before HM Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the state’s Durg district.
Condemning the killing of the BJP functionary, the opposition BJP in the state termed it a targeted killing and demanded a high-level probe into it. The party alleged that Maoists had the protection of the Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government in the state.
OP Chaudhary, general secretary of the Chhattisgarh BJP, tweeted, “Another dastardly murder by Naxalites. It is clear from the brutal killing of Bijapur District ST Front Minister, former Sarpanch Arjun Kaka that BJP workers are being killed in a pre-planned manner. Law and order have ended in the state.”

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Congress spokesperson Dhananjay Singh Thakur said the killing was highly unfortunate and accused the BJP of politicising the matter.
According to Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Gavarna, Arjun, who presided as the sarpanch (head) of Ilmidi village panchayat from 2016 to 2020, left for Semaldodi village with his wife on a motorbike at around 10 am on Wednesday.
When he got there, he dropped his wife and proceeded to a forest with five other unknown people who were dressed in civilian clothing. When he did not return for long, his wife came back home, he said.
The officer said the body, with the throat slit, was found on the outskirts of Lankapara in Ilmidi, 470km from Raipur.
Police said they discovered a note at the scene issued in the name of the Madded area committee of Maoists. The note read that Arjun was associated with the BJP since 2014 and was working against the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), police said.
In the note, the Naxals warned that any person who works against the banned CPI (Maoists) outfit will meet the same fate.
Arjun is the fifth BJP leader who has been assassinated by Maoists this year. In fact, in February this year, BJP raised the issue of the killing of party leaders in Chhattisgarh. BJP accused the Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government of starting a proxy war against the BJP using the Maoists as the front.
Chhattisgarh BJP president Arun Sao also raised the issue in parliament after four BJP leaders were killed in Bastar district in a month, reportedly by Maoists and urged the Centre to direct the Chhattisgarh government to ensure the safety of the people. He said that the murders of four BJP members were a result of targeted killings and political conspiracy.
He also demanded an impartial probe into the death of the BJP’s local leaders in Bastar by any independent agency.
After BJP’s stand on the matter, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel rejected security failure claims and maintained that the killings were the last efforts by Maoists to establish their presence as they are losing ground in the Bastar area.
Pakistani YouTuber Nadir Ali’s recent interview has sparked a row on social media. The YouTuber, while interviewing Pakistani actor Sunita Marshall, kept pestering her with questions of conversion. At one point he also said, “May Allah give her the guidance to accept Islam.”
YouTuber said to Sunita Marshall: God gave you ‘Hidayat’ guidance on conversion. This is not the first time, this guy has encouraged forced conversion, earlier he did the same. Imagine how minor Hindu and Christian girls are indoctrinated into converting to Islam. The state is… https://t.co/3ItgVj7mmHpic.twitter.com/oPtJSMMnHu
Sunita Marshall is a Pakistani model/actor of the Christian faith and is married to Pakistani model/actor Hassan Ahmed who is a Muslim.
Ali’s first question to Sunita was about which religion her children follow. To this, she replied, “Islam”. The YouTuber then asks Sunita, “So what is your plan then…in future..(to convert)?”
Sunita, visibly uncomfortable about the direction of the conversation, answered with a clear no. “I don’t have any such plan at least not for now. Neither do I have any pressure from Hassan’s side or from his family. There are often such comments (suggesting conversion) on Instagram but those have not affected me.”
Ali doesn’t stop there. He goes on to repeat his question asking if any of Sunita’s in-laws ever ask her to convert. Sunita again replies in the negative. And then Ali says “May Allah give her the guidance to accept Islam.”
Sunita finally told Ali, “If one really wants to (convert) then it better be from the heart or else better to not (convert) at all.”
Throughout the duration of the questions on Islam and conversion, Sunita Marshall can be seen visibly feeling awkward.
Backlash on social media against Nadir Ali
Many of his viewers on YouTube hit out at Nadir Ali for his targeted questions on conversion.
A viewer @mohsinmahesar8407 wrote, “Faith is very personal, you cannot force someone to accept any religion. Being a Muslim I am very happy to see Sunita defending her religion and respecting her husband’s and in-laws’ religion.”
Twitterati too have expressed outrage over the interview and the line of questioning.
Just listening to the guy is getting me angry … and the girl is being her diplomatic best coz she knows one wrong word can be dangerous for her neck !!

Earlier in March, Nadi Ali shared another video wherein he openly denied the persecution of Hindu minorities in Pakistan and said that the reason for the decrease in the percentage of the Hindu population in Pakistan is that “Allah is guiding them to Islam”.
Nadir Ali, YouTuber brazenly encouraged forced conversion by saying; ‘they get converted to Islam due to God’s order (Hidayat).’ In Pakistan, not only religious people including common people like him carry extremist views and shamelessly support a minor Hindu girls conversion. pic.twitter.com/xTbEwLDbkS
Hindu, Sikh, and Christian girls, as young as 9 years old in Pakistan have been abducted, raped, converted, and married to their rapists. Mass conversions are rampant in Sindh. The perpetrators generally go scot-free.
