The Taliban hates musical instruments and often end up smashing them every now and then. In a recent video that has been going viral on social media platforms, Taliban terrorists could be seen destroying harmonium and other musical instruments.

The video was shared by Hamza Azhar Salam, a journalist from Pakistan. In the tweet, he wrote that though the Taliban was destroying the musical instruments, things could change in future.

He gave the example of Maulvis in Pakistan, who were against TV, Radio and other modes of entertainment but started using them to spread their propaganda.

In another video, shared by Natiq Malikzada from Afghanistan, Taliban terrorists could be seen making a man take an oath never to watch TV again. Later, the Taliban radical pronounced its judgement and sentenced the TV to death, and immediately carries out the execution, by smashing it. While the TV died in front of the crowd, everyone cheered.

The Taliban, however, do not seem to consider things like mobile phones, video cameras, Twitter, and the internet in general as ‘haram’ or anti-Islamic. They use them in plenty to spread their propaganda. The problem, it seems, is when the general public uses any device for some entertainment.

This is not the first time the Taliban was seen taking such strong steps against the modes of entertainment. Since they took over Afghanistan, one of the main aims have been revolving around destroying the modes of entertainment. In September this year, it was reported that Taliban terrorists destroyed several musical instruments, including Tabla, Piano and many others. 25 years ago, when the Taliban came to power, they had banned music and sports.

When they took over the country, the Taliban had set some theme parks on fire.

Many music students of Afghanistan fled the country after the Taliban took over to save their lives. They have taken refuge in Doha and Portugal.

The devastating flood of Kedarnath and Vijendra Singh Rathore’s 19-month long quest to find his wife

Sometimes, tragedies lay down the foundation for unforgettable stories. One such tale found its origin in the devastating 2013 flood of Kedarnath Dham that killed over 5,700 people, and over 3,00,000 people were affected. The Kedarnath Dham has been rebuilt, and it looks mesmerizing. However, the stories of that flood still haunt countless families. But amidst those stories, one story can melt your heart. The hero of this story is Vijendra Singh Rathore and his wife, Leela of Alwar, Rajasthan.

On June 17, 2013, Leela urged Vijendra to take the Char Dham Yatra. Vijendra, who worked at a travel agency, booked the tickets for Kedarnath. The couple stayed at a lodge near the temple. On the day of the flood, Vijendra went out of the lodge for a few minutes. The floods came without any warning and took away the lives of thousands. Before Vijendra could understand anything, everything around him was changed. He barely managed to save himself.

After the flood passed, he looked around and could see dead bodies and people screaming for help. Without any hesitation or concern for his own life, he ran towards the lodge to check on his wife. When he reached there, the scenes were devastating. Everything was destroyed, and there was no sign of his wife, Leela. He helplessly looked around while thinking she should be alive. “She is alive. I know she is alive,” constantly played in his head. The person whom he loved for years could not leave him like that. He could not imagine that his wife could have died in the floods.

Vijendra had a habit of keeping his wife’s photograph in his wallet. For the next few days, he kept trying to find his wife around Kedarnath but failed. While everyone in his family started to believe Leela was no more, Vijendra did not agree with them.

After two weeks from the incident, the relief work was in full swing. He met several army officials in search of his wife but could not find any information about her. They concluded that she was swept away in flood. Vijendra again disagreed with them.

When Vajindra came back home, his daughters were devastated to know what had happened to their mother. He again told them that she was alive. Months passed, but he never stopped looking for her. During the conquest to find his wife, he covered almost 1,000 villages.

Meanwhile, he received a call from the government department. The government had declared Leela dead, and the official on the other end told him that he could claim compensation announced by the government for those who lost their next of kin in the incident. Vijendra refused to claim the compensation.

While relatives kept trying to convince him that his wife was dead and there was no reason to keep looking for her, Vijendra did not believe she was killed in the floods. One day, on January 27, 2015, he was looking for his wife Gangotri village, Uttarakhand. He showed the photograph to a passerby who recognized Leela. He told him that he had seen her. “I saw this woman many times roaming near Hina Bazar. I think she was mentally unstable.”

Vijendra could not hold his emotions and fell to his feet. He rushed to the village the passerby told and saw his wife sitting on the side of the road. He called her, “Leela!” But she did not recognize him. He found her but in a broken state. The flood had a devastating effect on Leela’s mental state, and she was unable to recognize anyone.

He hugged and cried like a child for several minutes. Vijendra then picked her up and brought her home. His children could not believe that their mother was alive.

There were reports that a film was underway on the story of Vijendra and Leela in 2017. However, no further progress was reported by the makers.

Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren has announced that his government will provide a concession of Rs 25 per litre of petrol to the users of motorbikes and scooters.

CM Soren stated that his government has decided to give a subsidy of Rs 25 per litre of petrol to two-wheeler owners. He added that it will be a relief to the poor, the labourers and middle-class families of the state. The concession is to be implemented from January 26 onwards.

However, the concession has a cap. As per reports, the concession will be applicable only for up to 10 litres of petrol per month and the concession amount will be transferred to the beneficiaries via DBT. The concession will be given to the people who have ration cards.

A 17-years old minor Hindu girl from the Purnea district of Bihar has been missing for 10 days. Her family has alleged that one Md. Shahbaz has kidnapped and ‘married’ her.

An FIR was lodged against accused Shahbaz, his father Md Shamim, mother, and another woman Munia Khatoon at Kasba police station of the district said the officer-in-charge Amit Kumar. They have been booked under section 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 366 A (to induce any minor girl to go from any place or to force or seduce for illicit intercourse), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

The family of the minor Hindu girl of Purnea has requested police to rescue their daughter.

A detailed report by Swarajya’s Swati Goel Sharma stated that the girl had gone missing on December 19. She had taken some jewellery and a mobile phone registered in the name of her father. The family stated that their neighbour Shahbaz had uploaded his picture of ‘marrying’ the girl on his social media accounts.

The victim’s family lives at Garhbanaili and is engaged in carpentry whereas the accused is from a nearby colony.  The victim’s brother alleged that the woman Munia Khatoon was involved in the abduction of his sister. He accused Munia Khatoon has a previous record of trafficking girls.

The Swarajya report stated that the victim would have turned 18 in a few months’ time and they were planning to get her married. They live in a Muslim dominated neighbourhood and have expressed concerns about their safety.

Police have assured action in the case. Swati Goel Sharma has further shared that NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanungo has written to the Purnea police asking them to expedite the investigation and ensure the minor girl’s safe return to her family.

While raids are being carried out, this is the second case of alleged grooming jihad in the Purnea district in the past few weeks. Incidentally, the previous case was reported at Kasba police station where a Hindu girl was abducted by two men named Md Shakil and Md Afsar Alam from her college. The family of the girl had complained that the accused had introduced himself to the girl claiming to be a Hindu named Bhola Shah.

Civil Aviation Ministry issues advisory to play Indian music on planes and at airports on the request of ICCR

The Civil Aviation Ministry has issued an advisory to all airlines and airports in the country, urging them to consider playing Indian music. The ministry noted that at present Indian music is not played at airports and onboard aircraft, and issued the advisory to consider playing Indian music.

The ministry acted on the request of the Indian Council For Cultural Relations, which had written to the ministry requesting that Indian music should be played in aircraft and airports in India.

The ICCR posted the advisory from the ministry on Twitter yesterday, thanking the ministry and civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia for issuing the advisory as per its request. ICCR is an autonomous organization of the government of India, and its main mandate is cultural diplomacy.

While issuing the advisory, the Civil Aviation Ministry gave examples of airlines of other countries, where music belonging those countries are played by airlines and airports.

“Music played by most of the airlines across the Globe is in quintessential of the country to which the airline belongs, for example. Jazz in American airline or Mozart in Austrian Airline and Arab music in an Airline from the Middle East. But, Indian Airlines seldom play Indian music in the flight, whereas, our music has a rich heritage and culture and it has one of the many things every Indian has a reason for truly proud of it” the advisory read.

Talking about the rich heritage of Indian music, the ministry said, “India has a rich diversity of traditional music. Owing to India’s vastness and diversity, Indian music encompasses numerous genres in multiple varieties and forms which include classical music, folk, light vocal, instrumental music, etc. It has a history spanning several millennia and developed over several geo- locations spanning the sub-continent. Music in India began as an integral part of socio-religious life.”

“It is, therefore, requested to kindly consider playing Indian music in the aircraft being operated in India and at airports following the regulatory,” the advisory issued by joint secretary Usha Padhee said urging the airlines and airports to include Indian music in their playlist.

ICCR had handed over a letter to the civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia when he had visited ICCR headquarters on December 23, requesting to make it mandatory for the country’s airlines and airports to play Indian music. “We urge you that if it can be made compulsory for Indian airlines to play Indian music, it will reach the people. We have seen that airlines in India often only play foreign music, which neither one can enjoy, nor does one understand,” said Indian Council for Cultural Relations President and Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Saharabuddhe had said while handing over the letter to Scindia at ICCR headquarters in Delhi.

The ICCR had requested for playing Indian classical or light vocal and instrumental music in aircraft and airports, saying go a long way in strengthening emotional connect of our people to our civilisational traditions in music and arts. Apart from ICCR, eminent artistes such as Rita Ganguly, Wasifuddin Dagar, Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar and Anu Malik were also present at the occasion.

While the letter was handed over on 23rd December, the advisory was issued on 28th, which means the ministry took the matter seriously and on an urgent manner, and acted on in less than a week.

A conspiracy allegedly hatched by Samajwadi Party to create a riot-like situation in Kanpur during PM’s rally has been unearthed in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh. An FIR was filed by the inspector in charge of Naubasta, Kanpur, alleging that miscreants from Samajwadi Party tried to disrupt law and order during PM Modi’s rally that took place on December 28, 2021, in Kanpur.

On the basis of the FIR, the police examined CCTV videos from the venue and arrested a Samajwadi Party office-bearer. A car has also been recovered. Ahead of PM Modi’s rally in Kanpur, a car was vandalized and the effigy was burnt in Naubasta, Kanpur. The video of vandalism and arson was made to go viral on the internet with the aim of whipping up passions, police said.

As per information included in the FIR, SP workers deliberately vandalised a car after putting BJP and PM Modi’s poster on it so as to goad the BJP workers into retaliation, forcing a confrontation.

“Sachin Kesarvani along with his 8-10 associates donning red caps deliberately torched the effigy of the Prime Minister on Hamirpur road so that BJP activists who came from Bundelkhand are triggered into causing disturbance and violence,” the FIR said.

The inspector in charge, who was deployed to maintain law and order during PM Modi’s visit, narrated the entire incident in the FIR. He said after finishing his duty by 4:30 am in morning, he saw the viral video of vandalism and disruption on social media. He rushed to the Hamirpur highway immediately, where he saw protesters indulging in vandalism and burning the effigy of PM Modi.

In 2014, when former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh left the office, he took 101 gift items given to him by various heads of the states during his foreign visits. The information came to light after a lawyer from Bareilly, Mohammad Khalid Jilani, filed an RTI with the Prime Minister’s Office and sought information about the same.

What had Jilani asked in the RTI application?

In his application [PDF], he sought information about the gifts then-PM Singh received during his long tenure of ten years. He further asked how many gifts he took away with him while leaving the office. The RTI was forwarded to the Ministry of external affairs as it keeps the record of the information about the gifts received by the PM by foreign delegates and heads of states.

In its reply, the MEA said that though the information of the gifts was included in the reply, the name of the countries or the source of the gifts could not be disclosed as per Central Information Commission’s order.

Items that caught the eye

It is noteworthy that multiple RTIs were filed related to the gifts received during the tenure and taken by then-PM Manmohan Singh at the time of leaving the office. In reply [PDF] to RTI filed by one Siddharth Sharma of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, then-PM Singh from 2004 to 2014 received a total of 383 gifts from heads of the states. According to the reply to RTI filed by Mohammad Khalid Jilani, a total of 101 items were retained by then-PM Singh at the time of leaving the office. Out of these items, the following caught attention.

  • Bose wave music system worth Rs 20,000
  • Gold made Piaget ladies wristwatch worth Rs 35,000
  • One carpet worth 30,000

Other than these three items, 88 items were less than Rs 5,000, and four were above Rs 5000. The remaining items had no commercial value, the RTI reply said. These gift items included gem-studded silver crockery, carpets, metal bowls, jewellery box, paintings, showpieces, tea sets, and more.

Is PM allowed to retain gifts?

As a matter of fact, the Prime Minister is allowed to retain gifts received from the heads of states under Foreign Contribution (Acceptance or Retention of Gifts or Presentations) Regulations, 1978 [PDF] and Foreign Contribution (Acceptance or Retention of Gifts or Presentations) Rules, 2012 [PDF]. Initially, when a gift is received by any PM, it has to be submitted at Toshakhana, where its value is assessed. While leaving the office, if PM wants, he or she can retain certain gifts as allowed by the law.

Why country of origin of the gift and the name of the donor not disclosed?

In December 2009, while replying to an RTI filed by a journalist Ramesh Varma, the Ministry of External Affairs refused to give information about the gifts received by the Prime Minister during his or her tenure. Varma filed an appeal at the Central Information Commission (CIC). The commission, in its order dated December 21, 2009, said that while the information about the gifts received like item details and price could not be considered as confidential, the information about the donor and country of origin could lead to uncalled for media attention and public scrutiny.

It said, “It is the considered opinion of the Commission that the information about the cost and description of the gifts may be disclosed by the Respondent while severing the information about the name/s of the donor of the gift viz. the name/s of the countries which had presented the gift/s, invoking the provisions of Section 10(1) of the RTI Act 2005.”

Thus, if someone seeks information about the gifts received by a government official, or a minister, including Prime Minister, the MEA only provides the list of items along with the tentative price. The name of the donor and the country of origin are not disclosed as per CIC order CIC/AD/C/2009/000802.

Kerala Police has suspended its officer PK Anas who allegedly worked as a mole of radical political Islamic outfit Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and leaked sensitive information including details of the RSS workers to SDPI.

SDPI is the political front of the Islamic outfit Popular Front of India.

PK Anas is a Civil Police Officer from the Karimannoor police station. After his alleged connection with SDPI came to light, he was attached to Idukki district police headquarters. Anas was suspended later on following an internal probe of Kerala Police confirming he had entered into a criminal conspiracy with SDPI to share sensitive information, posing threat to the life of the individuals.

The cop’s link with SDPI came to light after some SDPI workers were arrested in an assault case. In Thodupuzha, six SDPI workers had dragged a KSRTC driver Madhusoodhan and assaulted him for posting communally sensitive messages on Facebook. Madhusoodhan was attacked when he was travelling along with his children. He had allegedly shared a cartoon of the prophet.

When the Kerala Police examined the mobile phones of arrested SDPI activists in the case, it was found that one of the accused was in constant touch with Karimannur CPO PK Anas. Anas had sent contact details, whereabouts, and other sensitive information related to RSS workers to the SDPI activists through WhatsApp.

However, the inclusion of a new car in PM’s convoy created quite a furore on social media, with the usual suspects insinuating that the new Mercedes-Maybach S650 Guard was profligacy on PM Modi’s part and not a security prerequisite. A raft of left-leaning liberals, journalists, activists, lawyers who associated themselves with the Congress ideology made a beeline to propagate anti-Modi propaganda on the internet.

Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan, who has lately been associated with promoting vaccine hesitancy besides being accused of spreading fake news, too, joined the chorus to inveigh against PM Modi over the addition of the latest Mercedes car in his convoy. Disregarding the fact that the car is for the post of Prime Minister of India and not for PM Modi’s personal use, Bhushan tried to paint him as a sybarite wallowing in luxury.

However, as media speculations are often prone to misinformation, in this even case too, some of the facts being bandied around on the internet are far from the truth.

Amidst insinuations made against PM Modi, here’s are some facts about the SPG security detail and why cars are needed

Contrary to conjectures peddled in media, the cars cost much less, approximately about 1/3rd of the price quoted in the media, sources told OpIndia.

In addition to this, sources also highlighted the norm followed by the SPG security detail to replace vehicles used for protectee.
The SPG security detail has 6 years norm to replace vehicles used for protectee. However, the previous cars were used for 8 years under PM Modi. In fact, an audit of PM Modi’s SPG security detail raised objections over the issue and remarked that it was comprising the life of the protectee.

The new cars included in PM Modi’s convoy are not an upgrade, but a routine procedure as BMW stopped making the model which was used previously. Since the BMW had stopped the production of the previous make, Mercedes-Maybach was finalised.

Furthermore, the decisions pertaining to security detail purchases are made on the basis of the threat perception of the protectee. These decisions are taken independently by SPG without taking the views of the protectee. Therefore, PM Modi had no say in the decision of procuring Mercedes Maybach S650 Guard vehicles as being alleged by the usual suspects.

Also, the widespread discussion on the security features of the protectee’s car is not in the nation’s interest as it puts a lot of necessary details in the public domain and thus, jeopardises the life of the protectee.

While PM Modi was not given any preference to choose which cars to be included in his convoy, Congress President Sonia Gandhi in the past had used Range Rover cars, which were actually procured for the then Prime Minister of India.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav who vowed to sweep away ‘bull and bulldozer’ from the state in the upcoming assembly election, has promised to pay an ex-gratia payment of Rs five lakh to the family of those killed by stay bulls.

“If a person dies in a bull-fighting accident, Rs five Lakh compensation will be given by the SP government,” Akhilesh Yadav has said. 

Akhilesh Yadav made the announcement of ex-gratia payment in Unnao on Tuesday (December 28) during his Vijay Rath Yatra when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was busy inaugurating the Kanpur Metro Rail Project.

But records of Akhilesh Yadav and Yogi Adityanath suggest that the former did nothing to control stray animal menace in Uttar Pradesh while Yogi systematically addressed this issue with long term plans.

The party has also officially announced this poll promise on the official Twitter handle of the party with an attractive portrait of Akhilesh Yadav.

Samajwadi Party chief spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said that the announcement was made based on feedbacks from common people about the problem they face which they want Akhilesh Yadav to solve when he comes to the power in 2022.

This may be an important announcement but it has triggered funny reactions of many people giving comic relief when the battle for power has intensified.

Some netizens mischievously tagged Aam Aadmi Party MP and UP in-charge Sanjay Singh. BJP’s Dr. Richa Rajpoot asked whether the SP government will give Rs five Lakh compensation to jilted lovers.

“Amazing. Since childhood, I always wished to fight with the bull because apart from this, what else is there to do in life! But I was afraid of who would look after my family if I die. With this announcement, Akhilesh Bhaiya has cleared my dilemma. As soon as the SP government comes to power, my fight with the bull is sure,” a user Skin Doctor said. He further asked whether this scheme will be named as ‘Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia socialist bull fight scheme?

People asked Akhilesh Yadav to focus on the real issues rather than seeking votes on the name of bulls.

UP government controlled bulls as well as bullies

In October during the election campaign in Kanpur Akhilesh Yadav lashed out at Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and said that after state elections both the ‘Baba Chief Minister’ and his ‘bull and bulldozer’ would be swept away. The ‘bull and bulldozer’ remark referred to stray cattle seized by the government and the demolition of unauthorised properties.

Uttar Pradesh is not the only state in the country facing problems due to stray animals. But the government has been tackling the problem by catching and putting such animals at the shelters.

In the last five years, over 1.03 lakh stray cows were adopted by 56,853 people in Uttar Pradesh under the scheme of the government. The government has made functional all 5,384 ‘Gau Sanrakshan Kendras’ (Cow Protection Centres) in which 650052 cow progeny were kept. To ensure food for the Yogi government has established 3,548 hay banks for them.

His government also introduced a scheme, ‘Mukhyamantri Nirashrit Besahara Govansh Sahbhagita Yojana’, for interested farmers and livestock rearers to adopt and nurture destitute cattle. Such persons are provided with Rs 900 per month for the upbringing of the animal. About 20,000 cows have been given to families with malnourished children under the state’s Poshan Mission.

Yogi Adityanath also instructed district collectors to ensure destitute cattle are taken at cow shelters and be taken care of during winter.
