Albert Pinto Ko Darr Kyun Lagta Hai – Decoding the latest rants by Naseeruddin Shah

Bollywood entertainer Naseeruddin Shah in his recent interview with The Wire’s Karan Thapar referred to discussion over Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, responsible for demolishing of Hindu temples and forced religious conversion in recent times as ‘separatism’ policy of ‘ruling party’. He then spoke about the recent ‘Dharma Sansad’ that was held in Haridwar where people present there were accused of ‘hate speech’. Shah, very cleverly skipped mentioning about AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi, an elected public representative, who, in a threatening tone, asked Hindus who would save them after ‘Modi-Yogi are gone’. But that doesn’t come as a surprise because speech is not ‘hate speech’ if Hindus are threatened in a ‘liberal’ Indian world.

Shah then starts talking about atrocities of Mughals and quickly corrects it to ‘so-called atrocities’ of Mughals which are being highlighted. Here, Shah insinuates that the Mughals did not really commit atrocities and all the historical evidence of destruction of Hindu temples, forced religious conversion, beheadings of Sikh Guru like Guru Tegh Bahadur for refusing to convert to Islam, were perhaps figment of one’s imagination. Because how can all these things even qualify as atrocities if Mughals, a minority even then, did them.

“The so-called atrocities of the Mughals are being highlighted all the time. They forget that the Mughals were people who contributed to this country. Mughals are people who have left lasting monuments, lasting history, lasting culture, the tradition of dance and music and painting and poetry and literature. No one talks about Taimur, no one talks about Mahmood of Ghazni, no one talks about Nadir Shah because I don’t suppose these people are conversant with that part of the history. Those were the marauders. Who came, looted and left. Mughals came here to make this their homeland. You could call them refugees if you like, pretty well off refugees. But the Mughals are being blamed unnecessarily. And to hold every Muslim in India today responsible for ‘so-called’ atrocities is nothing short of ridiculous,” he said.

Here it is important to note that people have regularly called out the atrocities and looting by Taimur as well as Mahmood of Ghazni. If Naseeruddin Shah hasn’t heard of it (or Islamists being proud of Somnath being looted and destroyed by Mahmood of Ghazni), perhaps he may want to come out his echo chamber.

Responding to a leading question on whether Shah believes that the people who made so-called call for ‘genocide’ of Muslims in Uttarakhand have silent support of Prime Minister Modi, the Bollywood entertainer said that he is not surprised and he expected the same. “I did fear that it would come to this,” he said. Shah said how the PM says he has no problem against any religions “and yet he will parade his own religious beliefs to the accompaniment of zillions of cameras and at the same time to issue a dog whistle about the Muslims.”

Firstly, Shah, about PM Modi wearing his Hindu religious identity on his sleeves, cope. Being head of a state does not mean one has to only wear headgears of other religions to prove one’s secular credentials as previous leaders did. That PM Modi is unabashedly Hindu even while catering to people of other religions in the country (like bringing in laws against instant triple talaq amongst others) is something the likes of you will have to deal with.

Secondly, is this Mughal simping a part of your atonement for asking Indian Muslims not to cheer for Taliban taking over of Afghanistan in August this year? Like, remember how a section of Indian Muslims were extremely excited at the idea of strict Sharia being implemented in Afghanistan and the educated, elite Indian Muslims, who also like to call themselves liberal, attacked Naseeruddin Shah?

‘Liberal’ elites who have problem with PM Modi asserting his Hindu identity were quick to point out how Naseeruddin Shah should not give unsolicited advice to Indian Muslims as he is not even a ‘practicing Muslim’.

Rifat Jawaid’s tweet on Naseeruddin Shah

Terming the celebration by Indian Muslims over the Taliban’s victory as dangerous, Shah had stated that every Indian Muslim should ask himself whether he wants a “reformed, modern Islam” or the “barbaric values” of past centuries.

Shah even went on to say that his ‘Islam’ is inspired by Mirza Ghalib, which is non-political and ‘Hindustani Islam’ has always been different from the Islam that is practised elsewhere and prayed that the Indian version of Islam doesn’t change so much that it is no longer recognisable’.

But even Karan Thapar’s colleague at The Wire, Arfa Khanum Sherwani, was upset at Shah being critical of Taliban.

Arfa Khanum Sherwani’s tweet on Naseeruddin Shah

Essentially, Naseeruddin Shah was cancelled by Islamists masquerading as liberals in India only for cautioning against celebrating Taliban. After all, Taliban held a press conference after taking over Afghanistan. What if they identified, targeted and killed one of their colleagues, Reuters photographer Danish Siddiqui only because he was Indian? His body was also mutilated by the Taliban. And that is just one instance. Since coming back to power, the Islamist group is back at carrying out atrocities against its own people like they were never gone anywhere in past 20 years.

In 2019, during the anti-CAA protests that had turned violent, Shah was found spewing venom against the government of India while instigating Muslims against a law that had nothing to do with them and did not affect them in any way. So when Shah ‘dared’ to school Indian Muslims, they were triggered. How dare he try to deviate from the ‘Dara Hua Musalman’ narrative and even acknowledge that barbarians carry out atrocities in the name of the religion that shall not be named? Don’t we all know that only a Sanskrit chanting Tilakdhari is the biggest threat to humanity in Independent India?

So within just few months of being voice of reason as a non-practicing Muslim and cautioning Indian Muslims against celebrating Taliban, Shah has somersaulted and played the ‘dara hua’ card because he also knows how the ‘liberals’ in India are the most insecure people and tribalistic in nature that anyone who does not adhere to the rulebook gets cancelled. And only thing more terrifying for an entertainer like Naseeruddin Shah, after the prospect of Modi returning as PM again in 2024, is being striped off his ‘liberal’ credentials.

Shah had dared to break the omerta and strayed. And hence, to be welcomed back into the ‘liberal’ tribe, Shah must atone for his sins and whitewash Mughal atrocities because beheading kafirs brings ‘believers’ one step closer to world peace.

This is the statement on MK Gandhi for which Kalicharan Maharaj has been arrested by Congress govt in Chhattisgarh: Read details

On December 30, religious leader Kalicharan Maharaj was arrested for allegedly criticising MK Gandhi for the partition of India and hailing Nathuram Godse for his assassination. Since he made those remarks, multiple complaints were filed against him that led to the arrest. The remarks were made during Dharm Sansad in Chhatissgarh on December 26. A video of the speech had gone viral on social media networks.

‘I thank Nathuram Godse’

During his speech at Dharma Sansad, Kalicharan Maharaj said, “India was cut into two parts in front of our eyes. Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan were already separated. Bangladesh and Pakistan got separated in front of our eyes by them. They used politics to separate these parts from India. That Har*mi Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi destroyed India. I bow down to Nathuram Godse Ji, who assassinated the Har*mi.”

He further added, “These ulcers of the society need to be surgically removed else they become cancer. I am not telling you to start riots. There is no need. You are not even ready. Muslims are prepared, you are not. If the Police were not there, we would have already been finished. There are saviours of religion among them.”

While talking about the sentiments that Police is not with Hindus, he said, “You all talk about how Police do not support you. They tell you not to cause unrest or take out Bhagwa rallies from Muslim areas. Do you think they are at fault? You are wrong. Who is controlling the Police? They work under the orders of the administration. Who controls the administration? Government. Who controls the government? Leaders. It does not matter how religious the Police is, they cannot support Hindus unless the king is Hindu. I am talking about politics, and if you hate politics, you will lead the religion towards its end.”

‘Gandhi does not deserve to be called father of the nation’: Kalichran Maharaj

Following the uproar, Kalicharan Maharaj issued a video explaining his stand on the statement he had made against MK Gandhi. In his statement, he said he had no remorse for the derogatory words he used against Mahatma Gandhi. “There were 14 votes in favour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for the post of Prime Minister. Not a single vote was for Nehru. Still, he was made PM. Why? Because of him, the Gandhi-Nehru dynasty ruled India’s politics. India would have become the golden bird if Vallabhbhai Patel had become PM. India would have become ‘Jagadguru’. India would have become bigger power than the US.”

He further added there are several talented leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia in Congress, but they do not get a chance to do anything because of the dynasty politics. He said, “The one who wrote the song ‘De di humein Azadi Bina khadak Bina dhaal’ deserve a beating. Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Chandrashekhar Azad, Subhash Chandra Bose sacrificed their lives for the country. Did they not do anything for the independence of the country?”

Kalicharan Maharaj said there were many freedom fighters who were hanged. 80% of them were Sikhs. 20% are other freedom fighters. He questioned if their sacrifice meant nothing to those who gave credit to Mahatma Gandhi for independence. “Did he face even a single blow of batons? These freedom fighters were hanged. He could have stopped the execution of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, but he intentionally did not do so,” he said.

While talking about the partition, he said, “Gandhi used to say partition would happen over my body. But when the partition happened, he was alive. Lakhs of Hindus and Sikhs were killed in the riots that followed the partition. 27 lakh Hindus were massacred on the ‘Direct Action Day’ called by Jinnah. Dead bodies of Hindus were being sent from Pakistan via trains. Women were gang-raped. Their breasts were cut-off. On the other hand, Gandhi was sitting on fast onto death to force India to give Rs 55 crores to Pakistan.”

“When riot-hit Sikhs took refuge in mosques to save themselves from cold, Gandhi sat on fast to get them out and hand over the mosque to the Muslims. This is why I hate Gandhi,” he said. He further added, “Gandhi was all set to go on fast to allow thousands of square kilometres long corridor to connect Pakistan and Bangladesh. Muslims demanded the corridor to eat up India and make it a Muslim nation under Gazwa-e-Hind.”

He said when Veer Sawarkar talked about breaking the Varna system in front of Gandhi, he refused. He told Savarkar to let it be how it was. When Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar suggested declaring Sanskrit as the national language, Gandhi did not sit on fast for it. “I believe it was disrespect of Veer Savarkar and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar,” he said.

“No one can become the father of the nation. India has been there for centuries. How can someone who was born less than 200 years ago become the father of the nation? If it is so important to call someone father of the nation, then Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Guru Gobind Singh, Maharana Pratap or Chanakya should become the father of the nation. If someone from present time has to be made the father of the nation, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who united over 500 princely states should become the father of the nation,” added Kalicharan Maharaj.

He again thanked Nathuram Godse for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and said, “If Pakistan-Bangladesh had got the corridor in India, they would have made India a Muslim nation. Many thanks to Mahatma Nathuram Godse for his sacrifice to save India from becoming a Muslim nation. He failed Gazwa-e-Hind. Gandhi was not Mahatma. Nathuram Godse Ji was Mahatma.”

He further said if speaking the truth means death, he was ready. “Chhatrapati Sambha Ji Maharaj, Guru Gobind Singh, Rana Pratap sacrificed their generations to save Sanatan Dharma. I am nobody. My life does not matter in front of them. There is no meaning of people like me if we cannot sacrifice our lives for Dharma.”

‘Omicron is mild, do not hoard medicines or oxygen’: AIIMS director Dr Guleria says India is better prepared to manage case surge

0

Dr Randeep Guleria, the director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi has allayed the fear of people about the impact of Omicron, the new Covid variant, and asked people not to hoard oxygen cylinders and medicines leading to a crisis that India had witnessed earlier this year.

Guleria said that the Omicron variant is a ‘mild’ one and it is unlikely to cause a fall in oxygen saturation levels.

Guleria said this in his New Year message where he advised people not to panic, but to be vigilant as the cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus across the country are on the rise.

“Pandemic is not over, yet we are in a better position. There are a large number of people who are vaccinated. Still, cases are increasing,” the AIIMS director said.

Guleria advised people to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour including wearing masks, physical distancing, and avoiding crowds “so that we do not have a super spreader anywhere,” he said. He said people should ensure that they don’t become a part of the chain of spreading the infection.

He assured that given the level of preparedness and proper planning, India is in a better position to manage any possible new wave.

He said that the level of individual immunity too has increased. “A large number of us have either got immunity because of vaccination or due to natural infection,” he said.

India has so far reported 781 Omicron cases. Delhi has the highest number of Omicron cases (283), followed by Maharashtra (167), Gujarat (73), Kerala (65), Telangana (62), Rajasthan (46), Karnataka (34), Tamil Nadu (34), as reported by HT.

Besides these states, Haryana (12), West Bengal (11), Madhya Pradesh (9), Odisha (8), Andhra Pradesh (6), Uttarakhand (4), Chandigarh (3), Jammu and Kashmir (3), Uttar Pradesh (2), Goa (1), Himachal Pradesh (1), Ladakh (1) and Manipur (1) too have reported cases of Omicron.

The Centre on December 21 directed all states and Union territories to take containment measures such as night lockdowns and bans on large gatherings if more than 10 percent of all tests in a week turn positive or if the occupancy of hospital beds breaches 40 percent of capacity. Goa and Rajasthan imposed a fresh set of restrictions, including a night curfew and limiting access to public places.

‘Chhattisgarh govt violated interstate protocols’: Kalicharan Maharaj was arrested without informing state police, says MP govt

The government of Madhya Pradesh has stated that the arrest of Kalicharan Maharaj from Khajuraho earlier today by the Chhattisgarh police was in violation of interstate protocols. As per reports, Madhya Pradesh DGP has been instructed to his Chhattisgarh counterpart on this matter.

The Madhya Pradesh government has stated that the state police was not informed about the operation to arrest the Hindu religious leader, which is against protocols. The MP DGP has been asked to register an objection with the Chhattisgarh DGP over the procedure and arrest of Kalicharan Maharaj, ANI reported.

On December 30, Hindu religious leader Kalicharan Maharaj was arrested by the Chhattisgarh Police from Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. He was staying at Wagheshwar Dham from where he was arrested. Reports suggest he would be brought to Raipur.

NCP leader and Maharashtra minister Jitendra Awhad had filed a case against him for criticizing Mahatma Gandhi.

Kalicharan Maharaj had made the alleged remarks during ‘Dharma Sansad’ in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on December 26. In his comments, he criticized Gandhi for India’s partition and hailed Nathuram Godse for killing Gandhi. After the video of his speech went viral, Awhad approached Naupada police and filed a complaint against Kalicharan Maharaj. A case was filed based on the complaint under Sections 294, 295A, 298, 505(2) and 506(2) of the Indian Penal Code. Another complaint against him was filed by Pramod Dubey of the State Congress Committee at Tikrapara Police Station and Civil Lines Police Station.

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel had tweeted earlier calling Kalicharan Maharaj a ‘Pakhandi’ or fake Sadhu, for his alleged derogatory remarks on MK Gandhi.

Reportedly, the religious leader said in a video statement that he did not regret what he said about Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi on ‘personal trip’ to Italy, second foreign trip in a month’s time

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has yet again left India for a ‘short personal trip’, reportedly to Italy. As the Wayanad MP is not in India, his Punjab rally has been postponed. It is noteworthy that Gandhi’s trip to Italy has come at the time when all political parties are gearing up on campaigns and rallies for the upcoming Assembly elections in five states scheduled for early next year.

ANI quoted Congress leader Randeep Surjewala, saying, “Rahul Gandhi is on a brief personal visit. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its media friends should not spread rumours unnecessarily.” Gandhi was scheduled to kick start the campaign in Punjab with the party rally in district Moga on January 3. The rally would most likely get postponed. Reports suggest that Congress would not start its campaigning in Punjab before Gandhi’s return to India.

Gandhi’s previous trip was almost a month-long

Just before Diwali, Rahul Gandhi had vanished again, reportedly to London. On November 5, it was reported that Gandhi was on a ‘long vacation’. He returned after almost a month, just before the winter session commenced in the Parliament. At that time, BJP took a dig at Gandhi and questioned his trip to London.

Gandhi is often seen as a full-time traveller than a politician. In December 2020, he left for Italy on the 136th foundation day of his party. His party leaders could not settle on one explanation and further made themselves a target for opposition and media. In October 2019, fifteen days before the assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra, Gandhi had left, reportedly for Bangkok.

Interestingly, Gandhi also has a history of skipping important party events. In November 2019, Congress had planned as many as 35 press conferences across the country against union govt’s policies, but Gandhi, who allegedly gave directions for the press conferences, skipped them himself.

In May 2019, before the counting of votes of the parliamentary elections, Rahul Gandhi skipped an important meeting held by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in which they had planned to decide on a PM candidate and flew to London for a holiday. From missing out on budget sessions in 2018 to vanishing for trips to Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam in 2015, the Congress leader seems more interested in travelling than showing support to his party. Not to forget, he had a history of skipping SPG security for his abroad visits that led to revoking the security by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

It is notable here that Rahul Gandhi’s foreign visits are always shrouded in mystery. He never shares the news of travelling abroad in the media or never even shares pictures from his numerous foreign trips. While the party machinery is busy prepping him as the PM candidate and party president, his frequent ‘vanishing acts’ raise only suspicion and speculations on the minds of people.

‘Liberal’ elite is dehumanizing Indians, and why it no longer makes sense to argue with liberals

The Wall Street Journal says that they are products of a “baby factory.”

A columnist for the Atlantic says that they are “termites”

Bloomberg’s “big take” is that they are responsible for spreading the deadly Delta variant across the world.

And the New York Times says Christianity is under attack because of them.

Image

And this is just from the last one week. This is the bile that has been poured on Indians during that time — and probably not even all of it. Baby factory? Termites? Would this kind of language be acceptable against any other demographic group?

The signs are all there. The dehumanization of Indians is reaching a climax. The New York Times should recognize what is happening here. After all, they and their Nazi collaborating Berlin bureau chief Guido Enderis were the international public relations wing of the Nazi Party.

Indians need to wake up and take note. The global liberal elite and the Chinese Communist Party have found their common enemy — India. An open democratic society, the vast majority of them the people of color and belonging to a several thousand years old indigenous faith that is not part of Christianity, Islam or Communism. We are an anomaly. We were not supposed to make it this far, all the way to the 21st century. They thought they had already taken care of us through conversion, colonialism and communism. Our culture was supposed to be in a museum by now. Most of our surviving people, if any, were supposed to be living on reservations.

Not only did we survive, but we are also now on the world stage, demanding great power status. Hence the onslaught.

So, what are they trying to do to us? Read again the samples at the beginning of the article. The most explicit dehumanizing language such as “baby factory” or “termites” comes from Sadanand Dhume and Vidya Krishnan. Because they have Indian names, they can go much further in the hatred. In fact, if you read the article in the Wall Street Journal, the expression “baby factory” does not actually come from Dhume. It comes from an American “expert” with no Indian heritage. Through his tweet, it seems Dhume has to put his Indian heritage as a protective screen between us and the racist American “expert.”

Yeah, it is pathetic, but who cares about that? There are over 1.3 billion people of Indian heritage across the world. They are always going to find folks willing to perform the lowest most dishonourable tasks, presumably even at bargain-basement prices.

For us, what matters is the takeaway. The first takeaway here is that you cannot afford to be fooled just because the anti-India rhetoric is coming from someone with an Indian name.

The second takeaway is that they are playing on what they see as our faultlines. Observe that the Wall Street Journal does not refer to *all* Indians as products of a baby factory. Only those from the northern part of the country. Or as they would say, “North India,” with the first letter of both words capitalized, sounding like it is the name of a separate country. The distinction matters. Remember that these writers are generally paid by the word. So every word is chosen carefully.

Third, they have a comprehensive strategy for tackling India, which very much includes the Indian diaspora. The Indian diaspora is successful, has money and deep family ties back in India. Many are now second generation, with even the third generation coming of age. The only narrative they have ever heard on India is from the New York Times. They will dismiss any soft corner that grandpa may have for India as just that, a soft corner. The near-monopoly of anti-India voices in the global media now sees these people as force multipliers against India.

And if nothing else works, they will be threatened. The undercurrent of extortion is not so subtle in the tweet from the Atlantic columnist. Such nice lives you Indian diaspora got there, attending prestigious schools, working good jobs and creating wealth. Would be a shame if people were to suddenly start calling you “termites.” Better open your wallet and “donate.”

Next, the campaign against India is being framed in terms of a religious war. The New York Times full-page feature on “Crackdown on Christianity” leaves no room for doubt. This kind of false flag is an old strategy, really. When Hitler was about to invade Poland, he planted stories in liberal media about attacks on ethnic Germans in Poland. And then, the Nazis argued that they were just coming to the rescue of innocents. In fact, the New York Times bureau chief even went on to say that it was Poland that had invaded Germany. Yes, the New York Times has a long history of being a Nazi mouthpiece.

Finally, we have to understand that liberals are not interested in hearing our views, nor in arguing with us. There are two reasons for this and they feed into each other. First, liberal elites think they are so well informed that no sensible person could possibly disagree with them. It comes from a lifetime of living in a cocoon of liberal privilege. The second reason of course is that the liberal elite is entering this arena with the mentality of fighting a war. That too, a religious war: crusade, jihad or revolution. Pick your favourite term, because they are all the same really. Whoever listens to their opponent during a war? In fact, if you are ever trying to argue with a liberal, remember that this is their response.

Taliban fighters broke into laughter when asked about women representation in the government.

I have some bad news. Folks, they have declared war on us. And just like the Nazi mouthpieces at the New York Times did in World War 2, global media is calling the victim as the aggressor, and the aggressor as the victim.

Mumbai: Pastor sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor boy in church

0

A special court in Mumbai on Wednesday sentenced a pastor to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy at a church in suburban Dadar in Mumbai in 2015.

The convict, Father Johnson Lawrence, was found guilty of violations of the relevant provisions of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO).

As per the prosecution, the minor boy was sexually assaulted twice by the pastor from the duration between August to November 2015.

In his statement to the police, the victim said he had gone to the church in Dadar’s Shivaji Nagar with his brother on November 27, 2015. He was called inside by the pastor after the prayers on the pretext of keeping a box following which the priest closed the door from the inside and sexually assaulted him, the victim told the police.

The boy further added that the pastor committed a similar act a few months earlier as well. A similar statement was made by the minor boy before the magistrate.

Christian pastor arrested in Andhra Pradesh for sexually harassing minor Dalit girls

Earlier in November 2021, a Christian pastor was arrested for sexual harassment of minor Dalit girls in a church in Andhra Pradesh. OpIndia reached out to Prerna Thiruvaipati, SC-ST Women & Child Rights Activist and Dalit Researcher for details about the case. Thiruvaipati had approached NCPCR as Police was not registering the case and allegedly trying to get the matter settled outside the court of Law.

Prerna said that the incident took place on October 6, 2021, in the Church premises. On October 7, the mothers of the two minor girls, who are 8-year-old and 6-year-old respectively, approached Police to file a complaint against Pastor Ravindra Prasanna Kumar and his female accomplice, who was present inside the Covenant Church at the time of the incident of sexual molestation occurred. Notably, both girls do not have a father.

She added that the Sub-Inspector Maruthi of Chagallamarri Mandal Police Station allegedly refused to file a complaint in the matter. The mothers further alleged that the SI had accepted a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh from the accused. He also tried to pursue the mothers to resolve the matter outside the court of Law.

But later a complaint was registered after the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) intervened in the case. On the intervening night of November 12 and November 13, Kurnool Police arrested Pastor Father Uppalapati Ravindra Prasanna Kumar of Chatthiveedu Gramam Chagallamarri Mandal, District Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, for allegedly sexually harassing two minor SC girls in the Church premises.

Madras HC bans liquor sale in Puducherry for 3 hours on new year night in the wake of 2 omicron cases who have recovered

0

In a major blow to the spirit of December 31 partygoers in Puducherry, the Madras High Court has ordered a ban on the sale of liquor from 10 PM to 1 AM on the new year night. The High Court imposed this temporary ban on alcoholic beverages due to the scare of the omicron variant of Coronavirus.

A holiday special division bench consisting of justices S Vaidyanathan and D Bharatha Chakravarthy issued the interim orders on a PIL that had sought a ban on New Year celebrations in the Union Territory. The bench ruled that there shouldn’t be any sale of alcohol during the said time window in Bars, Bars attached restaurants/ hotels or any other places for public consumption.

The High Court stated that generally such orders are not passed, especially in a tourist destination like Puducherry, but the fact that two cases of omicron has been reported from the UT is concerning enough to order a complete ban on liquor during the peak of the new year parties. The court issued the order despite the fact that both patients of omicron variant Covid-19 have already recovered.

Apart from the liquor ban, the court also ordered that any person who has not taken two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine should not be allowed in public places after 7 PM on 31st December. The court said that if officials and police demand vaccine certificates from people in public, the same must be produced. The bench further ordered the govt to ensure that celebrities are not allowed to participate in functions in public places.

While the Puducherry govt made desperate pleas to the court to allow celebrations and sale of liquor till 12.30, the court didn’t agree. Govt counsel D Mala said that the ban on liquors sale and restrictions on celebrations would badly affect the revenue of the government, adding that the govt had prepared a comprehensive plan for ensuring COVID norms are adhered to in a strict manner. She requested for exemption till 12.30 am saying that tourists including foreigners have already arrived for the new year parties.

However, the court said that the ban is only for three hours and it will not affect revenue.

The court also noted that the Puducherry Government has already decided to impose a curfew in Puducherry from 1 AM to 5 AM on 1st January 2022, and asked the citizens to show responsibility, cooperate with the government and prevent the spread of pandemic.

Anti-CAA propaganda, dubious links with China, and spiteful lies: The sordid shenanigans of NGO director Jo Chopra and her husband Ravi Chopra

Recently, Jo Chopra McGowan, a Director of a rather unremarkable NGO Latika Roy Foundation, came under the spotlight for propagating canards about the Uttarakhand government in order to malign Hindus. In a Twitter post, McGowan, who is a US citizen, proclaimed that the Uttarakhand government had banned Christmas celebrations in the state.

In a classic example of how the left-liberal intelligentsia has always spread hatred maligning Hindus, the NGO founder had Tweeted on December 25: “Shopping yesterday in Dehradun – this state where #Christmas has been banned. In every shop, every person I met greeted me with a smile and a “Merry Christmas, Ma’am”. Sorry, #Hindutva. You can’t win. Indians are too open, too kind, too cool for your silly agenda of hate.”

Source: Twitter

As it turned out, the lies peddled by McGowan were promptly called out by the Uttarakhand police as well as several users on Twitter. Spooked by reactions to her deceitful post and possibly fearing police action, McGowan removed the tweet and issued an apology, though it appeared insincere and not rooted in genuine remorse.

Jo Chopra’s husband Ravi Chopra headed China-related committee while receiving donations from China, Twitter user alleges

Amidst the brouhaha over McGowan’s patently misleading post defaming the Uttarakhand government, stark details pertaining to the NGO director and her family have come to the fore. According to a Twitter user who goes by the handle @vijaygajera, McGowan, who routinely peddles anti-Modi propaganda, receives funding for her NGO from foreign countries, including China.

Interestingly, Jo Chopra and her husband Ravi Chopra both run separate NGOs and receive funding from foreign countries. Their son is married into a Chinese family, Vijay said in a Twitter thread posted by him detailing the shenanigans of the NGO director and her husband.

While receiving foreign funding, including that from China, is not unusual, what raises eyebrows is the fact that Ravi Chopra headed two govt-appointed committees, one of them related to road construction in a border state with China.

In a subsequent tweet, Patel said Ravi Chopra was appointed head of the committee on the Chardham Road project, adding that he was against the proposed idea of broadening the width of the road, whereas in his committee 12 people were in support of a 12-meter wide road.

Chopra also headed a committee on hydropower plants in Uttarakhand and had recommended dropping them in a report submitted in Supreme Court in 2014.

At a time when China is rapidly building infrastructure along its border with India and hostilities between the two countries are at an all-time high, the Supreme Court had appointed Ravi Chopra as head of the committee dealing on matters related to China, said Patel, highlighting funding he receives from China and his son’s Chinese connections.

Besides, Ravi Chopra is also a part of the leftist cabal that includes the likes of Harsh Mander, Prashant Bhushan, Teesta Setalvad etc. Ravi Chopra was one of the many signatories to a petition floated by leftists against the Central government. Chopra was also among the signatories who urged the Supreme Court to reconsider contempt proceedings against Prashant Bhushan.

Patel further claims that when the BJP-led government started their work towards national security and stopped giving him importance, the leftist media organisation took the initiative of promoting Ravi Chopra as the Chairperson of the Char Dham Pariyojana.

Jo Chopra had fuelled misapprehensions about CAA, urged protesters to join anti-CAA insurrection

In addition to this, Ravi Chopra’s wife, Jo Chopra, has also peddled misapprehensions about the Citizenship Amendment Act, driving a wedge between different religions and stoking unfounded fears that CAA would disenfranchise Muslims.

It is also notable to mention that Jo Chopra McGowan, who lied that Christmas festivities are prohibited in Uttarakhand, is a US citizen. But this did not stop McGowan from fanning misgivings about the Citizenship Amendment Act that enables fast track the citizenship process of religious persecuted minorities from three neighbouring countries of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India as refugees on or before December 31, 2014.

Uttarakhand Police responds to fake news peddled by US citizen and NGO director Jo Chopra

Earlier yesterday, after Jo Chopra peddled fake news about Christmas celebrations being banned in Uttarakhand, the state police took to Twitter to refute allegations levelled by the Latika Roy Foundation director. Through the official Twitter handle, the Uttarakhand police wrote in Hindi which roughly translated as: “Nowhere in the state was there a prohibition on the Christmas festival. This event has been enthusiastically celebrated by the Christian brethren throughout the state. It is an appeal to all of you not to pay heed to the rumours that are tainted by such religious malpractices. Here, in the state of Uttarakhand, as per the Constitution of India, all religions are respected equally.”

Uttarakhand Police’s tweet was in response to the fake news concocted by Jo Chopra where she alleged that Christmas is banned in Uttarakhand so that she could accuse the Hindus of being intolerant towards people of other communities. Her shenanigans, however, did not go unnoticed. Soon after Jo Chopra took to Twitter to spew venom on Hinduism by spreading the fake news, several Twitter users called her out for defaming Hindus and asked her to immediately delete her Tweet and render an apology.

Karnataka govt to bring bill to free temples from govt control, announces CM Basavaraj Bommai

Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced that his government is initiating steps to free Hindu temples from government control. There has been a growing demand to free Hindu temples from government control, and this can be considered as a victory for that movement in one key state.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said that the Karnataka government will free Hindu temples from laws and rules that require the temple managements to seek permission from the govt to utilise their income for development. He informed the state govt will bring a bill to this effect before the budget session of the assembly.

The CM said that under the new law, there will only be some regulations for functioning of the temples, and there will be no government control over them. He informed that the temples will be allowed to manage their own affairs. He made the announcement at the BJP state executive meeting in Hubli.

“Temples that have suffered under the hands of officers and bureaucrats will be freed. They will from now look after their own development. We are planning to bring in a new bill in the next cabinet wherein temples will be freed from state control. Except for regulation, they will manage their own affairs,” the CM said.

CM Basavaraj Bommai also added not just the anti-conversion bill will not just become a law, but a special task force will also be constituted to implement it properly. Refuting the Congress claim that it will scrap the law if it comes to power, he said that “the law ensuring freedom for all to practice their religion will remain permanently.”
