‘Farmers’ who had sent legal notices to Kangana Ranaut, BJP MPs, turn out to be AAP leaders

Some of the ‘farmers’ who had sent legal notices for defamation to actress Kangana Ranaut, Union Minister Raosaheb Danve and BJP MPs Ravi Kishan, Manoj Tiwari and Ramesh Bidhuri have turned out to be AAP workers.

According to the reports, five “aggrieved farmers” had sent defamation notices to five individuals yesterday for allegedly defaming protestors agitating against the three farm laws in and around Delhi. It has been now revealed that some of those alleged farmers are nothing but AAP workers.

Earlier, AAP had announced they would despatch of legal notices on behalf of those five farmers against the five reputed individuals for calling out the protestors who have been camping at the Delhi border.

However, it has now been exposed that the disguised farmers are workers of Punjab unit of AAP. One such ‘farmer’ who sent notice is Narinder Singh Shergill, who is an AAP member and has contested Assembly elections from Mohali and the parliamentary polls from Ropar constituency. Another person who has sent the legal notice to Kangana Ranaut is Jeevan Jyot Kaur, who is also associated with the Mahila wing of AAP.

Similarly, the third ‘farmer’ claimed to have helped to send a legal notice is Gurinder Singh Birring, who has been associated with AAP and was part of its war room for 2017 Assembly polls. A fourth ‘farmer’, Sukhwinder Paul Sukhi, who has sent legal notice to BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, is also learnt to be associated with AAP in Mansa.

Reportedly, four out of five so-called farmers whom the AAP claims to have helped send legal notices for defamation, are actively associated with the party.

AAP leader defends the farmer-turned-AAP workers, says they are farmers too

After the embarrassment, AAP leader Raghav Chadha defended his party workers, who had sent notices disguised as farmers. Raghav Chadha claimed that one or two of them may be associated with the party and added that they are farmers too.

Deviating the issue, Raghav Chadha instead blamed the central government saying, “It is because of the sacrifices made by a farmer and his family that food reaches our homes, our plates, and we are able to eat to our heart’s content. If someone abuses an honest farmer, it is similar to abusing Mother India,” he added.

Chadha claimed that the BJP leaders have described farmers terrorists, anti-nationals, goondas, dalaals, agents of Pakistan and China. “Does our farmer look like a terrorist? I would like to tell the BJP that our farmers have had enough. They are done with being maligned and abused. They now want to knock at the doors of justice, and we truly believe that victory would be theirs,” he said.

“It is evident that the entire BJP is categorically and strategically working to destroy and discredit the farmers’ movement with their relentless abuse,” he added.

The AAP leader also claimed that the false and frivolous propaganda against the farmers was unbecoming on the part of those behind the propaganda. Chadha said that the AAP vows to stand with the farmers of this country in their fight and will provide them assistance till the BJP leaders are punished.

He also mentioned that actress Kangana Ranaut was served a notice for her derogatory remarks by Jeevan Jyot Kaur. Kangana through her tweet had allegedly called the aged mother of a farmer as a woman available for Rs 100.

Sita would have ended like Hathras victim if she was abducted by Ram’s followers instead of Ravana: TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee

The Trinamool Congress party (TMC) has often resorted to minority appeasement in a bid to maintain its stronghold over the Muslim vote bank. However, ahead of the upcoming West Bengal elections, the party has now upped his ante with anti-Hindu propaganda.

While addressing a rally, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee made derogatory remarks about Goddess Sita and Ram Bhakts. “Sita told Ram that I am thankful that Ravana had abducted me. If your followers chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and brandishing saffron headgear had kidnapped me, I would have ended up like the Hathras victim from Uttar Pradesh,” the TMC leader said while addressing a rally.

In his politically-motivated statement, Banerjee tried to glorify the demon king Ravana while simultaneously defaming the Ram Bhakts of committing a heinous crime against Goddess Sita. Lambasting him for his remarks, former Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy inquired, “Are you a Hindu? If yes, then, open your ears and listen to this speech of an Islamist disguised as a Hindu. If you don’t spew venom against Hinduism, then, you cannot become a true Islamist.”

BJP has strongly reacted to the comments of Kalyan Banerjee. party’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya asked, “Is trampling on Hindu sentiment Pishi’s idea of appeasement?”

Slamming Kalyan Banerjee, BJP’s poll in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya said that TMC is rattled due to the popularity of BJP. He said, “All these are rubbish and foolish remarks. I would not even react to it because this kind of rubbish is said by rubbish people. I would just want to advise that they should go to a psychiatrist.”

Kalyan Banerjee compares Nirmala Sitharaman to ‘Kaali Naagin’

The Trinamool Congress MP is not new to making contentious remarks. In a bid to mock Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the government’s economic policies, Trinamool Congress (TMC) politician Kalyan Banerjee made disparaging comments about her at a rally in Bankura in West Bengal in July last year.

He said, “Kaala naginir chubal khaya jamon manush mara jai, temni Nirmala Sitharaman er chubal khaya Bharatvarshar er manush ektu ektu morche (Just like a black venomous snake, Nirmala Sitharaman is killing people every day in India).” Kalyan Banerjee further added, “Don’t you have any shame for razing Indian economy to the ground? You must resign and go back to Andhra Pradesh. She is the most useless Finance Minister of the world.”

“Adani apples”: Has Adani really taken over agriculture sector after the three farm laws were passed

One of the major complaints against the three new farm bills is that Modi govt is handing over the farm sector to the corporate sector, or to be more specific, to Ambani and Adani. Today a ‘proof’ for the same appeared on social media, claiming that Adani has now taken over the Apple farming in India.

Today some people discovered that there are Adani branded apples in the market, and proceeded to conclude that Modi has gifted them the sector using the new farm laws.

One netizen named Ajay (MalabarHornbill) on Twitter posted photographs of Adani Apples on his social media profile. He wrote, Now Adani apples!! And this lying Modi govt was assuring farmers that corporates won’t take over agriculture sector.”

A similar post was made by Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Sevadal in which they said “Kashmiri’s Apples Not Adanis. Too Much Vikas.” Similar posts were shared on Facebook and other social media platforms.

A post claiming Adani Apples is a brand (Source Twitter)

The Apples seen in the pics had the words Adani and Farm Pik written on it, and it is true that Farm Pik is part of the Adani group. The company is in the business of agricultural products, which buys Apples from growers and sells them in the market across the country.

But it is not that they have started doing this recently after the three agricultural laws were passed. They are doing this for more than a decade. There are hundreds of such companies which buys farm products from farmers and sells them in the market, it is not something that started only during Modi government.

History of ‘Adani Apples’

Consumers in India have been consuming apples and other fruits procured and imported by Farm Pik for a long time. The brand comes under Adani Agri Fresh Limited, a company that was incorporated in December 2004, i.e. when UPA-1 was in power. As per the Adani Enterprises website, the company has been procuring apples from as many as 15,000 farmers in Himachal Pradesh. They have set up Controlled Atmosphere storage facilities at three locations in HP that are Rohru, Sainj and Rewali. Under the brand Farm Pik, the company imports Apples, Pears, Kiwis, Oranges, Grapes and many other fruits.

As per Farm Pik’s website, the company is importing Apples from Canada, USA, Europe, China, South Africa, Chile, Australia and New Zealand. The main source for Indian Apples has been mentioned as Shimla and Kinnaur districts of Himachal Pradesh. The 15,000 farmers who sell their produce to Adani group are spread over 700 villages in the region and comprises 90 percent of the small and marginalized farmers. The logistics and technical support AAFL has provided these farmers have increased realization of the produce hence decreasing the losses in the region.

In 2013, when there was bumper produce of Apples in Himachal Pradesh and the market price fell to as low as Rs.34 per kg, two bulk buyers Farm Pik and Concor (Container Corporation of India) were paying higher than market price. As per a report published in Economic Times, Concor paid a fixed price of Rs.53 per kg while Farm Pik started with Rs.50 per kg and increased it later to Rs.60 per kg.

Other agro-products of Adani Group

Adani Group is not limited to Apples. IN 1999, the group joined hands with Wilmar International (a Singaporean company) and formed Adani Wilmar that owns Fortune Foods. Fortune brand was launched in the year 2000. The company deals in several agro products, including edible oils, sugar, pulses, flour, and more.

Conclusion

Adani Apples exist, but the brand Farm Pik that sells these apples is not new. The company has been operating for years. The claim that Adani Apples were launched in the market after new Agriculture Laws were enacted is FAKE.

The allure of QAnon: The Cult of Q that has taken USA by storm and institutions are fighting hard, and failing, to contain

There is new cult on the horizon. True to its American heritage, it is evangelical and conspiratorial at its core. It is deeply political but like the progressive movement, it has most of the components of religion. And consistent with all the eccentricity that has engulfed the world since the advent of Donald Trump, it began with a post on 4Chan. We are, of course, referring to QAnon.

In the world of QAnon, Donald Trump is the messiah who will rescue the United States of America from the cesspit of moral depravity that the country currently finds itself in. According to the Cult of Q, the incumbent US President is surrounded by powerful enemies on all fronts. And his adversaries are Satan worshipping, child-raping, blood-drinking pedophiles.

QAnon imposed itself on the national consciousness after the recent storming of Capitol Hill where numerous Q cult figureheads were believed to be involved. And as we shall see, it could pose similar challenges in the future as well.

What are the origins of QAnon?

QAnon began with a post on the anonymous free speech image board 4Chan. Sometime on October 2017, a user made a series of posts and signed off as Q. From the very first post, QAnon predicted the imminent arrest of Hillary Clinton. Since then, he/she/they has/have predicted that a lot of powerful people of the perverse establishment will be rounded up and sent to jail.

QAnon predicts a moment of reckoning for the United States with Donald Trump as the people’s champion. It has been consistently predicted that the incumbent US President will be reelected to office for a second time even after Joe Biden’s victory in the polls became clear.

‘Trust the plan’ became the core message of the Cult of Q and every event, no matter how bad it appeared for Donald Trump, was reinterpreted as part of ‘The Plan’. In the world of Q, Trump’s reelection as president is certain, everything else is just noise.

The precise origins of Q are disputed as is the individual or group’s actual identity. However, it is generally believed that the person(s) are part of the National Security Administration (NSA) or, at least, with close ties to it and in possession of a Q-level clearance.

Q’s messages are quite cryptic, by design one tends to believe, and considerable effort is made towards deciphering their true meaning.

The Esotericism and Mysticism of the Cult of Q

Q’s texts are called ‘breadcrumbs’ or ‘Q drops’ and it falls upon devoted followers to interpret them for others. While hardly any of the predictions made by Q have come true, it has not deterred his ardent followers from their steadfast faith.

According to those who have followed the movement closely, QAnon followers have an inherent disdain for mainstream sources of information. If some information is coming from a mainstream institution, it is not to be trusted. Instead, QAnon followers rely on ‘citizen journalists’ on YouTube and other platforms for news.

It has to be emphasized here that the Cult of Q believes that the Trump phenomenon is not merely a political movement, it is battle for the between Good and Evil, the righteous and the wicket and Truth and Falsehood. As such, Trump’s victory as the People’s Champion is guaranteed because the Good always wins and Truth alone Triumphs.

Q’s ‘breadcrumbs’ themselves are loaded with religious imagery. One of them said:

One party discusses God.
One party discusses Darkness.
One party promotes God.
One party eliminates God.
Symbolism will be their downfall.
The Great Deceiver(s). […]
Have Faith in Humanity.
Have Faith in Yourself.
UNITED WE STAND.
GOD WINS.
Q

There has been an attempt by institutions to dismiss the whole cult as a mere conglomeration of conspiracy theorists but as is evident, it is much more than that. The Q Cult Mythology does not merely dispute a particular fact or the narrative regarding a particular event, as conspiracy theories usually do, instead, it is ontologically at odds with other worldviews.

The Cult of Q presents an entirely alternative framework through which to perceive the world. True, it borrows much of it from Christianity and combines it with modern political dogma but what is evident is that the disagreements over interpretations of particular events are a consequence of the framework while with mere conspiracy theories, it’s the theory itself that tends to alter the individual’s perception of the world in specific ways.

For instance, UFOs, alien abductions, the John F. Kennedy assassination are all sources of a multitude of conspiracy theories. But people do not use these conspiracy to interpret completely unrelated events, that is, such conspiracy theories are not all encompassing. QAnon, on the other hand, is all encompassing in that the battle between Good and Evil is of doctrinal significance to it.

An examination of the core claims of QAnon

There is no point addressing the particular predictions by QAnon, all of them that I have personally seen have turned out to be false and untrue. But I say there is no point in examining the individual claims by the Cult of Q for the same reason that I believe there is very little value in arguing with a devout Muslim whether the prophet of Islam actually flew on a donkey.

Instead, there is a lot that could be learned by examining the overall worldview of the particular group. Most importantly, it could give clues into why and how the movement gained so much popularity and the motivations that have fueled its rise. And as we shall see, three of the core positions of the cult are things that most ordinary people will find themselves agreeing with either in parts or in full.

One claim that is at the heart of the QAnon movement is that the class of elites in the United States is truly evil. As we have said earlier, it is believed that they are a bunch of Satan-worshipping pedophiles. Again, the belief that the ruling US political establishment is evil is something that has widespread popularity among the US populace.

Progressives are convinced that the ruling establishment is corrupt and vile. An overwhelming majority of Republicans believe the same. A second Q position is that the evil bunch of elites are conspiring with each other to oppress the American people and drain the country of its resources.

Again, even this is not a belief that is unique to the Cult of Q. Some call it the Military-Industrial Complex, some call it the Deep State, some call it Illuminati, some call it the Surveillance State, different people call it by different names but the claim that ruling establishment is conspiring in secret to retain its dominance and perpetuate its cycle of oppression is an extremely popular belief.

And let us not lie to ourselves. There is truth to it. The Deep State actually exists. It has become more than evident during the presidency of Donald Trump. It is a different matter altogether that vast sections of Democrats are happy that it exists because the mainstream propaganda was that the Deep State was preventing Trump from enforcing his fascist inclinations.

In reality, the Deep State was working overtime to prevent Trump from withdrawing troops from foreign soil and ending ‘forever wars’. Again, this is not a fringe belief by any means. Former US President Eisenhower himself warned of the military-industrial complex and progressives warn of it to this day.

Julian Assange and Edward Snowden exposed the dark underbelly of the Surveillance State and events since then have exposed that intelligence agencies sort of operate outside the control of elected representatives.

An expert on a mainstream news channel in the United States threatened incumbent US President Donald Trump that he should not go against the intelligence agencies because they have a thousand ways to get back at him. And hardly anyone bat an eyelid. Others were expressing immense gratitude towards the Deep State. So after all of this, the existence of it cannot be denied.

Now, let us again revert to the specific Q belief that the western elites are Satan-worshipping pedophiles. While I am personally unsure about the first part, it cannot be denied that western elites do appear to have a massive pedophilia problem.

Since Trump’s election as president, prominent Democrat and husband of close Hillary Clinton-aide Huma Abedin, Anthony Weiner pleaded guilty to a charge of transferring obscene material to a minor. In simple words, he sent a minor a photograph of his genitalia. He was convicted and sent to prison and forced to register permanently as a sex offender.

The, of course, we have Jeffery Epstein, a high-profile pedophile who apparently committed suicide in prison. But it will be hard to find a single individual who believes that he committed suicide. “Epstein didn’t kill himself” actually became a meme. But even so, it was also labelled a conspiracy theory despite that it is completely impossible to believe the official version of events.

Then, we found out that Prince Andrew of the British Royal Family was deeply involved with Jeffery Epstein and he was credibly accused by at least one individual that he abused her when she was a minor. Subsequently, he resigned from all public roles.

Jeffery Epstein also had connections with important people in the American ruling establishment, one of the most prominent being former US President Bill Clinton. There is a lot of suspicion regarding Clinton’s involvement to be fair. He has been previously accused of rape by multiple women and he is reported to have travelled in the pedophile’s infamous ‘Lolita Express’.

Under such circumstances, it is foolish to dismiss beliefs that a significant section of the American elites is committing child sexual abuse. Furthermore, we do know that mainstream media conspires to bury information regarding sexual predatory behaviour by influential individuals. Mainstream media did try to cover up the crimes of Harvey Weinstein before they eventually broke out.

It is entirely my personal opinion but I am not willing to dismiss claims that western elites have a pedophilia problem.

QAnon and the distrust of institutions

A third aspect of the Cult of Q is a deep-seated mistrust of institutions and the mainstream media. While most of us are wary of institutions and mainstream media, QAnon takes it to pathological levels. Again, it has to be admitted that public institutions and the media have to take the blame for the deep mistrust.

For instance, at a time when funerals were being disallowed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, public health experts told everyone that the massive gatherings were not only permissible but a public health intervention.

While people lost their jobs due to lockdown, left-wing mobs were permitted to rampage and run riot across major cities in the United States. CNN called it ‘mostly peaceful protests’. Anthony Fauci, who is leading the US Covid-19 response, has admitted on multiple occasions that he lied to the public.

There is not a single institution in the United States that is considered authoritative by an overwhelming majority of the population. This problem has been highlighted by numerous commentators as well.

QAnon, of course, pathologizes the whole affair and comes up with a cure that is worse than the disease.

Where QAnon goes wrong: The Cope

QAnon is best understood as a coping mechanism for individuals that cannot make sense of the world. The followers primarily appear to be individuals who had so lost hope in the ruling establishment of their country that they resorted to fantastical delusions to maintain a semblance of sanity.

As some have pointed out, it is indeed a religious revival for the 21st century. Consequently, the movement has its own alternative history, numerology and other such branches. The unique feature of this revival is that Donald Trump has been incorporated into the lore as a messiah, a sort of neo-Jesus Christ.

The Coronavirus crisis has undoubtedly had an impact on the development of the same, only exacerbated by the abominable conduct of mainstream public institutions. It has witnessed a massive surge in popularity in recent times with Donald Trump refusing to denounce them as the mainstream media wanted.

According to Pew Research, nearly half of Americans had heard of QAnon by September 2020, the number had doubled in the previous six months. One in five had a favourable view of the movement. One QAnon supporter has even been elected to the US House of Representatives.

It is important to understand here that the rise of QAnon is extremely specific to the American political climate and at a time when the role of traditional religion has declined in public life. In an era of nihilistic dystopia, the cult of Q has provided meaning to the lives of its supporters, who number in hundreds of thousands if not millions.

The Cult of Q fantasizes that there will be mass arrests of powerful elites such as Soros and Hillary Clinton and others and the corrupt elites will be punished for their attempts to destroy the United States. That is highly unlikely to happen. They distrust vaccines as well and have numerous conspiracy theories about the origins of the Coronavirus.

Some subcultures within the movement have theories about aliens and other such matters as well. But the core unifying belief is the ongoing war between Good and Evil with Donald Trump as the Messiah. According to them, we are living through an ‘Age of Awakening’ which might have something to do with the fact that we are living in the Age of Aquarius by some estimates.

As one of my friends puts it, the Cult of Q is political augmented reality or an alternate reality that makes moral sense to its adherents. Much to the chagrin of the media and the political establishment, the cult is unlikely to vanish with Donald Trump. During an era of hyper-individualism and decline of traditional religion, QAnon has provided its adherent with a sense of community. Social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook have responded by limiting the reach of QAnon related content but it is unlikely to inhibit its rise.

The danger here is the same that deep political divides within the country poses. It is not healthy for civic society when significant sections of the population start seeing the world through an entirely different lens. Diversity is not a strength. Ultimately, QAnon followers will have to contend with the fact that Donald Trump is really an incompetent buffoon and it is unclear how they will interpret the whole affair.

There have been cases where members of the Cult of Q have been involved in instances that threatened people physical harm. One has already pleaded guilty to a terrorism charge. But as of this moment, the threat of violence they pose is significantly less than that posed by mainstream political ideologies such as Antifa and others. But that has the potential to change very quickly.

Rahul Gandhi returns to India after spending his new year’s eve at an undisclosed location believed to be Milan: Reports

Media reports suggest that Rahul Gandhi has return from for Milan, Italy on Sunday after spending the new year’s eve at an undisclosed location. The undisclosed location is believed to be Milan in Italy.

The information was shared on Twitter by Naveen Kapoor, the National Bureau Chief of news agency ANI.

On December 27, Gandhi-scion Rahul Gandhi had left the country just a day before Congress’ foundation day where there were the party had decided to take up the nationalism pitch. Interestingly, Rahul Gandhi had left to Milan, Italy where his extended family members are believed to be living, amidst the protests by a section of Punjab farmers against the farm laws passed by the Modi government.

It is important to note that Rahul Gandhi was very vocal about the farmers protests and the Congress leaders from Punjab were also providing logistical support to the protestors who have taken the national capital as hostage. However, Rahul Gandhi, without informing anyone, skipped the country leaving his party workers and protestors bewildered.

The Milan trip of Rahul Gandhi was also his first trip overseas after the humiliating defeat in the Bihar legislative elections. Nevertheless, it is now being speculated that Rahul Gandhi, after his return to the country, is expected to take over the reigns of the Congress party.

Did you know former PM Manmohan Singh cannot read Hindi? All his speeches were written in Urdu

On the World Hindi Day, it will be interesting to know that former Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh cannot read Hindi. All the speeches he had given in Hindi were written in Urdu so that he could read them. Although he could speak Hindi, he did not learn how to read it. If any speech was in Hindi, he needed time to practice it. There are reports that the first speech he gave in Hindi needed three days of practice.

In numerous videos of his speeches where he was speaking in Hindi, once can notice that the speech was in fact written in Urdu so that he can read it.

At around 17 minutes 58 seconds in above video one can see that his speech is indeed written in Urdu.

Dr Manmohan Singh’s speech in Urdu

Dr Singh was proficient in Urdu and hence his speeches in Hindi were written in Urdu script.

Ex-PM was born in undivided India, now in Pakistan

Born in 1936, the birthplace of Dr. Manmohan Singh is Gah, Punjab which is now located in Pakistan. He lost his mother at a very young age and was raised by his grandmother. The first twelve years of his life his village had no electricity. He studied under the light of a lamp.

At age 14, Singh’s family migrated to India after the partition and lived in Amritsar.

During his tenure as the Prime Minister, there were reports that Gah was being used as a part of diplomacy with India by Pakistan’s government. Singh had shown the desire to visit his birthplace but the trip could not be materialized during his tenure amidst tensions between India and Pakistan.

WHO distorts Indian map, separates Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, from rest of the country

The World Health Organisation, which is currently facing a lot of heat over its failure to tackle the Chinese pandemic, has yet again stoked a massive controversy by distorting India’s map.

The WHO – the global public health watchdog, has published Indian maps after separating UT of Ladakh and UT of Jammu and Kashmir from the rest of the country. In the maps it has published, the WHO had used different colours to show Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh from the rest of India evoking strong reactions.

The two newly created Union Territories of India have been marked in grey colour, separate from India which appears in navy blue. On the other hand, the disputed border space of Aksai Chin is demarcated in grey with blue stripes, the identical shade as that of China.

Here is the distorted image published by WHO in its website:

WHO publishes distorted image of Indian map/ Image Source: WHO

The distorted map has been published on its COVID-19 scenario dashboard that depicts the most recent pandemic numbers by nation. Despite the outrage, the WHO has not changed the map that disregards India’s sovereignty. In its defence, the WHO has claimed that it follows the United Nation guidelines and practice regarding maps.

Map could be distorted because of China’s pressure

The WHO, which has been criticised for its role in absolving crimes of China, especially during the pandemic, has allegedly been pressurised by the Communist Party of China to put out such distorted maps to discredit India’s sovereignty on Jammu and Kashmir.

Coronavirus and the role of WHO

The United Nations body, World Health Organisation, has been under the scanner for its alleged coverup of the spread of coronavirus which originated in China. It has been criticised globally for its alleged collusion with China which led to the coronavirus turn into a pandemic claiming lives of over 2 million deaths and infecting almost 90 million globally till today. Earlier, too, Donald Trump had criticised World Health Organisation and accused it of being ‘too focused on China’.

In January 2020, WHO had endorsed the conclusion of Chinese authorities that the Novel Coronavirus does not spread from person to person, and had said that it does not recommend any specific health measures for travellers to and from Wuhan. This was two months after the first case of Chinese virus was detected in Wuhan province of China.

WHO also ignored Taiwan which had informed that it has evidence of human-to-human transmission of the virus. Taiwan wrote to WHO on December 31 regarding this, but WHO was denying human-to-human transmission till mid-January. It may be noted that Taiwan has been denied membership of WHO due to objections of China, which considers the island nation as its territory.

How Mumbai police recreated the crime scene in Jhanvi Kukreja murder case

On Saturday, the Mumbai police reconstructed the crime scene in the sensational Jhanvi Kukreja murder case. The case pertains to the brutal killing of a 19-year-old girl, Jhanvi Kukreja, on January 1 in a residential building on 15th Road in Khar, Mumbai.

As per reports, the police had to rely on circumstantial and forensic evidence, in the absence of eyewitness accounts, to further the investigation in the case. On Friday, the police recreated the crime scene with the help of two dummy bodies, sniffer dogs and five forensic experts. During the probe, the two accused, namely, Shree Jodhankar (24) and Diya Padankar (19) were also present. At the same time, the whole process was videotaped on camera.

Using the two dummy bodies, the Mumbai police tried to determine how the body of the victim reached the ground floor from the second floor. According to the police, there were two plausible explanations. Either, the victim was thrown from the second floor or she was dragged by the hair to the ground floor by the two accused. The cops informed that the duo would be interrogated in the upcoming days.

Mumbai police to investigate ‘drug angle’ in the case

The Mumbai Police is also investigating a possible drug angle in the murder case. DCP Abhishek Trimukhe informed, “Crime scene reconstruction was done today by forensic experts. We are also investigating the drugs angle in the matter.” The police suspect that the individuals, who attended the New year’s Eve party, might have consumed drugs. While the cops are awaiting the medical reports of party attendees, they also suspect that a peddler might have supplied drugs to the party.

What we know so far in the Jhanvi Kukreja Murder case

Jhanvi, a resident of Mumbai and a psychology student from Jai Hind College was found dead after she was she had gone to attend a New Year’s Eve party in Mumbai’s suburb Khar. Jhanvi had attended the party with two of her best friends- Shree Jodhankar (24) and Diya Padankar (19) who are the prime accused in the case.

As per the autopsy report, skull fracture was said to be the cause of her death. Reports also suggest that Jhanvi’s injuries were homicidal and not accidental. It is revealed that the deceased was brutally beaten approximately around 2.30 am. Her body showed injury marks on the hip and thighs. “These injuries indicate that Kukreja was badly beaten with an intention of killing her,” said an officer from Khar police station in Mumbai. As per reports, it was around 6 am that the dead body was discovered.

The Khar police, investigating the case, arrested Shree Jodhankar and Diya Padankar on January 2 (Saturday). They have been charged under section 302 (murder) and 323 (assault) of the IPC. According to reports, Shree fractured his ribs and suffered injuries on his hands. He is currently admitted to the hospital. Once discharged, cops will take him under custody. Police are yet to figure out how Shree suffered injuries, however, they opined that Shree might have also had a fall during the scuffle.

USA: Laptops and documents stolen during Capitol Hill Violence, including from House Speaker Pelosi’s office, raises national security concerns

Capitol Hill Protesters stole a laptop from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office during the violence that erupted in Washington DC. Her spokesperson has confirmed the same. Meanwhile, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn claimed that his iPad was stolen as well before rescinding his comments.

“Whip Clyburn’s iPad is safe and sound. In the chaos on Wednesday, a staffer moved it to a more secure location and other staff was unaware,” a spokesperson told CNN. DC’s acting US Attorney Michael Sherwin on Thursday said that numerous items were stolen which raises national security concerns.

“This is probably going to take several days to flesh out exactly what happened, what was stolen, what wasn’t,” he said. “[But] electronic items were stolen from senators’ offices. Documents, materials were stolen, and we have to identify what was done [and] mitigate that.”

Drew Hammill, Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff, said, “A laptop from a conference room was stolen. It was a laptop that was only used for presentations.” A spokesperson for the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the House said, “During the event, the CAO took steps to ensure that the House network and devices remained secure. We remain vigilant in monitoring the security of the House network, systems, and information.”

CAO Catherine Szpindor said that there was no indication that networks had been breached. The protesters had managed to breach premises and enter Nancy Pelosi’s office during the storming of Capitol Hill. Numerous arrests have been made in connection to the incident.

World Hindi Day and how it is different from ‘Hindi Diwas’

Vishwa Hindi Diwas, also known as World Hindi Day, is celebrated across the globe on January 10 each year. With over 49 crore speakers, Hindi is the second most popular language in the world. The language is spoken primarily in India, Guyana, Mauritius, Nepal, Guyana, Fiji, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago.

It was on January 10, 1975, when the first World Hindi Conference took place in Nagpur. The event was inaugurated by the then PM Indira Gandhi and was attended by 122 delegates from 30 countries. The first World Hindi Conference was also graced by the then Mauritius Prime Minister, Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, who served as the Chief Guest.

Since 1975, the World Hindi Conference has been organised in several countries over the years including Mauritius, USA and the UK. January 10 is therefore dedicated to the promotion of the Hindi language across the world. As such, this day is celebrated as the World Hindi Day since 2006, when it was first observed under PM Dr Manmohan Singh. Although the objective is similar, Hindi Diwas differs from the World Hindi Day.

How is Hindi Diwas different?

It was on 14th September 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted Hindi as the official language of the newly formed nation. The language was chosen owing to its penetration and number of speakers who could understand the language in the country. 14th September is celebrated as ‘Hindi Diwas’ to commemorate its adoption by the Constituent Assembly.

At the same date, the date marks the birth anniversary of Beohar Rajendra Simha, one of the biggest proponents of the Hindi language. Under the Official Language Rules 1976, all government offices are encouraged to communicate in Hindi so that it reaches out to more common people. Hindi originated from the ancient Indic language of Sanskrit and is written in the Devanagari script.

Therefore, World Hindi Day and National Hindi Diwas of India are completely different. While the focus of the World Hindi Day is to promote the language at the global stage, the National Hindi Diwas is held in India to mark the adaptation of Hindi as the official language of the country.
