Himachal Pradesh: Police arrests man accused of feeding explosives to a pregnant cow in a viral video

On Saturday, a man was reportedly arrested in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh over allegations of feeding explosives to a pregnant cow last month. A video of the cow owner Gurdial Singh demanding justice for the injured pregnant cow had recently gone viral on social media. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, while taking cognisance of the matter, had reiterated that such incidents would not be tolerated.

The police made the arrest on the basis of the viral video footage, wherein blood can be seen oozing out of the animal’s mouth. The accused had been identified as one Nand Lal Dhiman, the neighbour of Gurdial Singh. According to the Superintendent of Police (Bilaspur) Dewakar Sharma, the accused was apprehended from his village Dahad on Saturday. A case was registered in this regard on May 26 under Section 429 (mischief of killing cattle) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, following a complaint by the cow owner on the previous day.

Reportedly, the cops had visited the crime spot with its medical team, examined the injured cow, and provided ‘prompt treatment’. The animal’s blood and injured skin sample were also collected for forensic investigation. The injured cow had also given birth to a baby calf, following her recovery.

According to the SP, the injury was caused due to some explosives that were routinely used by villagers to keep stray animals away from damaging crops. In a letter to the DGP, Sharma said that Singh’s pregnant cow was grazing in a field, 20 metres away from his home, when he heard a loud blast. He then discovered that the cow’s jaw was gravely injured during the incident.

Neighbour accused of the heinous crime

Gurdiyal Singh alleged that Nand Lal Dhiman, the accused neighbour, worked as a mechanic in Singh’s neighbourhood. Singh said that Nandlal has no remorse for his action. Nandlal has stated that he was not scared of the repercussions and that he will continue to do whatever he deems fit. “Even the village sarpanch cannot harm me”, challenged Nandlal when confronted by Singh.

Delhi likely to have 1 lakh coronavirus cases by end of June, expert committee setup by Delhi govt says 42,000 beds will be by mid-July

The national capital, Delhi, is likely to see at least one lakh coronavirus cases by the end of June according to a five-member expert committee formed by the Delhi government to plan for the upgradation of health infrastructure in the city to fight the Chinese pandemic.

According to the reports, the committee has advised the government to make arrangements for an additional 15,000 beds by the end of June and around 42,000 by mid-July to cater to the needs of the patients in the national capital.

The five-member committee submitted its report to the Delhi government on Saturday, however, the government is yet to make its findings public.

Dr Mahesh Verma, chairman of the committee told news agency ANI that they have studied the trends of other cities like Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Chennai and based on the calculations, the national capital can expect over a lakh cases by end of June. “Our calculations project more than one lakh cases in the national capital by the end of June. We want that no patient should suffer. We are getting prepared to combat the virus,” he said.

Another official pointed out Delhi’s doubling rate, which is currently 15 days and said that based on these projections, the number of cases would increase. “About 25 percent of patients will require hospitalisation. Most of the patients would have a medical condition of ‘hypoxia’ and 5 percent would need a ventilator. Hence, we have advised the government to arrange the maximum facility of oxygen supply for patients,” he said.

As of June 7, the national capital has recorded 27,654 cases of novel coronavirus cases, while the death toll due to the disease mounted to 761. Delhi currently has 16,229 active cases.

Delhi has close to 9,000 beds currently

Reportedly, Delhi currently has more than 8,600 beds for the treatment of coronavirus patients. Out of these, nearly half of them are already occupied. The Delhi government is working to increase the number of beds to about 9,800 by the mid of June.

“There are about 25,000 coronavirus cases in Delhi at present and the doubling time is 14 to 15 days. This means, by mid-June, there will be about 50,000 cases and by month-end 1 lakh cases. Now, assuming that 20 to 25 per cent of these patients need hospitalisation, Delhi would need 15,000 beds by the end of the month and 42,000 by mid-July. We have not calculated beyond that,” said Dr Mahesh Verma, chairman of the five-member committee.

Coronavirus: Delhi Medical Association slams Arvind Kejriwal for threatening doctors by filing FIRs, say they feel insulted by the way they’re treated

The Delhi Medical Association (DMA) strongly condemned the Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, for “issuing warnings and threatening” doctors and hospitals amid rising cases of coronavirus in the national capital.

According to the statement, the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) condemned Delhi government’s action to file FIR against the authorities of the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, a leading private hospital in the national capital for “violating rules for registering coronavirus tests”.

“Delhi Medical Association strongly condemns the way Delhi CM (chief minister) is warning the doctors and threatening the hospitals about COVID-19 patients admissions and tests,” the DMA said.

Condemning the FIR against doctors and calling it demoralising, the doctors’ body in its statement said, “Doctors who are serving the people of Delhi tirelessly from last two months in this pandemic crisis risking their lives feel insulted by the way they are being treated,” it said.

The statement read, “Hospitals are backbone of healthcare and are serving the patients COVID or non-COVID”. The DMA also alleged, “they are being penalised and government instead of praising their efforts is issuing new diktats daily”.

Further, the DMA, in its letter with the support of over 15,000 members, said that the doctors of Delhi are already overworked and overstressed in this hour of pandemic crisis and the state government is unnecessarily putting pressure on healthcare systems.

The Delhi Medical Association also demanded a coordination committee for medical professionals and the Delhi government. The body also asked the Arvind Kejriwal-led government to set up adequate testing facilities.

The doctors’ body also urged for smoother patient transfers and cremations, while demanding the government to appoint and nodal officers for overall coordination of coronavirus care.

FIR against Ganga Ram Hospital

On Saturday, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed by Arvind Kejriwal-led-Delhi Government against the Medical Superintendent (MS) of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for allegedly violating directives of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on conducting Coronavirus testing, under the Epidemic Diseases Act.

The FIR was filed on the recommendation of Deputy Health Secretary, Amit Kumar Pasami, under Section 188 (disobedience) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to the complaint, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital had not been using the RT PCP app while collecting Coronavirus samples as recently as June 3. Reportedly, the use of the said app is mandatory under the Epidemic Disease Covid-19 Regulation 2020 Act.

Doctors, patients face challenges at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital

Meanwhile, the doctors at Ganga Ram hospital have dubbed the two orders, a temporary ban on testing and diktat to dedicate 80% hospital beds for coronavirus patients, as being at odds with each other.

Following the Delhi Government order, cancer patients are forced to stay without treatment. Reportedly, the hospital would test 150 to 170 Coronavirus samples and conduct 30-40 surgeries per day. All of it had come to a halt since Thursday.

Shekhar Gupta peddles anti-Brahmin narrative accusing Brahmins of enjoying imaginary privileges

The liberals had once fantasised about a caste-war to create a rift within the Hindu society. After utterly failing to create a divide within the indigenous faiths of the country, the usual suspects have now fallen back to their old tactics of abusing Brahmins to set a clear narrative that other communities in the country are inherently discriminated.

Continuing the same, Shekhar Gupta, the face of the ‘liberal-secular’ coterie of the country, took to Twitter to recently to share a series of tweets penned by Dilip Mandal, a notorious anti-Brahmin propagandist, who is often given space by ‘upper-caste’ Gupta to spew venom against upper caste communities, especially the Brahmins.

Dilip Mandal had tweeted a series of tweets on Thursday, to fantasise about how his life would have been if he had belonged to a ‘Brahmin’ community. Mandal, referring to his Twitter thread as a case of ‘Brahmin privilege’ wrote a long list of imaginary entitlements that he would be enjoying if he ever was a Brahmin.

Dilip Mandal, who several times in the past has shared anti-Brahmin sentiments, had attempted to imagine the so-called privileges enjoyed by the Brahmins in the society, which according to him, was denied to others.

In his post titled ‘Brahmin Privilege’, Mandal claimed if he was a Brahmin, how he would be revered by people referring to him as ‘Ji’ and a pandit. Further, he claimed there were certain privileges of being a Brahmin like entitlements in availing public accommodation, the food at restaurants, etc.

Most bizarrely, Dilip Mandal lamented over Brahmins getting to upload their profiles on exclusive Brahmin matrimonial sites, while others could not, which according to Mandal was a privilege.

In a way, Mandal’s indirect abusive attacks on Brahmins was laced with his extra-ordinary abilities to imagine things about fictional entitlement enjoyed by the community. Here are the tweets in which Mandal puts himself in the position of a Brahmin to make wrong claims that Brahmins of the country are beneficiaries of certain privileges, which is inherently denied to the people belonging to lower-caste communities.

Mandal also cried over how Brahmins could go to any music store to ask for traditional Indian music and end up getting something that has been produced by his own caste brethren. Further, he claimed how Brahmins could see defence secrets to Pakistan or China, without anyone pointing fingers at them.

The rest of anti-Brahmin rant of Dilip Mandal can be read here, where he makes similar insinuations to state that Brahmins have been enjoying unimaginable implicit privileges, granted to them by through the country’s socio-economic, political and legal systems.

At the end of his long rhetoric, Dilip Mandal, like other ‘self-made’ liberals, took inspiration from the west to peddle his narrative with a hashtag “DalitLivesMatter”.

This ill-found idea Brahmin privilege and the misconception that the Brahmins in India enjoy certain benefits, while others do not, is just another attempt to abuse and attack the community. The individuals like Mandal, who seems to have enjoyed a lot of freebies in their lifetime may think Brahmins have a special entitlement in the country. However, if at all he has the intellectual ability to objectively assess the ground-reality, it is in fact exactly contrary to what he claims.

Not just Brahmins, the upper-caste communities in the country have been the greatest victims of the imaginary caste-wars, which has made them the perpetual perpetrators while the other side has always been looked like a victim, also with their crimes being absolved.

For example, as Mandal claims about non-Brahmins not getting to register in Brahmin matrimonial sites, however, it is also equally true that the Brahmins also do not/will not get to register at any other sites which profiles individuals based on its caste. Though there may be certain discrimination faced by other communities as well, however, there is also no dispute in agreeing to the fact that Brahmins too face discrimination.

The reverse discrimination, being faced by most of the upper caste communities, is not even considered to be real. The branding of upper caste individuals as casteist for trying to speak up against the discrimination faced by the communities due to illogical reservation policies will not even fall on the deaf years of propagandists like Mandal, as they do not fit into their political narrative.

Shekhar Gupta pushes Mandal’s anti-Brahmin narrative

Unsurprisingly, liberals like Shekhar Gupta, who gets ecstatic about Brahmin bashing, pushes the anti-Brahmin rhetoric of Dilip Mandal, who commented on the post claiming that the anti-Brahmin tweets put out by Mandal was ‘brilliant’. Shekhar Gupta also went on to draw parallels between the age-old social institution of caste with the ongoing alleged social discrimination in America.

The false equivalence of caste – a time tested social institution of the Hindu society with the racial discrimination within the western societies was not only absurd but also a lack of understanding about the institutions of the caste system itself. Perhaps, Shekhar Gupta thought he could bring a home-grown revolution against Brahmins to create anarchy on the streets of the country by equating caste issues with racial discrimination in the US.

In his attempt to mainstream Dilip Mandal’s conspiracy theory of ‘Brahmin privilege’, Shekhar Gupta too deliberately ignored the discrimination often faced by the upper caste communities in the country.

If ‘Brahmin Bashing’ was ever a sport, perhaps the ‘liberal-secular’ Shekhar Gupta and his ilks in the media would have won a medal. The continuous anti-Brahmin rhetorics pushed by Gupta and his comrades in the media have now crossed all civility and now taking a dangerous turn.

Netizens flag inflammatory posts inciting violence by a man named Afsaar Bhai, demand intervention from UP CM Yogi Adityanath and UP Police

Ever since the central government announced phased reopening of the country following monthslong coronavirus induced lockdown, some nefarious elements appear to have seized the moment to incite violence and protests across the country.

Recently, netizens highlighted how the nefarious elements in the society are planning to launch a deadlier wave of violent protest on the lines of the riotous demonstrations that are happening across the United States following the murder of African American George Floyd by a white cop. Social media users stumbled upon an inflammatory post uploaded by a man named Afsaar Bhai who posted a provocative message on Facebook to egg people on aping violent American protests as the country restarts once again.

“America ne kuch hamse seekha hai, America se kuch ham seekhe. Protest 2.0 zabardast hona chahiye,” the comment read which roughly translates to: “America had learnt some things from us. It is time we learn something from the United States. Protest 2.0 should be more powerful.” One of the respondents on the post commented, “bilkul and most powerful and violent hoga Insha Allah,” which in English translates to: “No doubt, it (protest) would be more powerful and violent.”

Several netizens took note of the inflammatory nature of the post and lodged their complaint with the UP Police on Twitter against Afsaar Bhai for inciting another wave of protest, dubbed as “Protest 2.0”. A Twitter user @NidarNaari took cognisance of the incendiary comment made by Afsaar bhai and tagged UP CM Yogi Adityanath, UP Police, DGP UP, ADG Zone Lucknow and demanded action against Afsaar.

The Twitter user also shared the Facebook profile link of the man and his employer, Bank of Baroda, for easy identification of the culprit who is yearning a fresh bout of more violent protests across the country. At the time of writing this article, the man in question, Afsaar, possibly got spooked by the attention his inflammatory comment was receiving on social media and locked his Facebook profile. However, the Twitter user @NidarNaari was prompt in sharing the snapshots of his Facebook link and screenshots of his bigotry-laced Twitter conversations.

The official Twitter account of Bank of Baroda took cognisance of the raging controversy and assured the netizens that an investigation will be lodged into the matter and necessary corrective action will be initiated against the culprit.

“Madam, The Bank does not tolerate violation of the social media policy by any of its employee. The instant issue will be investigated into and followed by necessary corrective action against the delinquent staff at the appropriate level, after ascertaining facts of the case,” Bank of Baroda tweeted.

Anti-CAA lobby trying to foment unrest

The emergence of incendiary elements wishing to have the country in the grips of violent protests comes on the heels of the anti-CAA lobby’s call for a mass protest movement even as the country gears itself up for revival after staggering under the economic shadow of coronavirus lockdown.

Days after the government announced resuscitation of a slumbering economy, the anti-CAA lobby swung into action, announcing a nationwide protest on June 3 termed as ‘Sab Yaad Rakha Jaega’ on the pretext of opposing the “repression on anti-CAA activists and democratic voices of dissent”. The release of all anti-CAA activists, Immediate attention to the plight of migrant workers and toiling masses instead of repression of democratic voices of dissent, arrests of the real culprits of the Delhi riots, the release of political prisoners, and repealing of CAA-NPR-NRC, as well as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act(UAPA), are the slated demand posed by the group.

Last time protests culminated into anti-Hindu riots in Delhi

It is pertinent to note that the last time the protests against the government and CAA culminated into violent anti-Hindu riots in northeast Delhi. Scores of people lost their lives while several Hindu temples were vandalised.

In one such incident that captured the national attention, IB sleuth Ankit Sharma was mercilessly dragged by a ferocious Muslim mob operating from AAP leader Tahir Hussain’s building. A video of a frenzied Muslim mob standing atop the Hussain’s bungalow hurling petrol bombs and stones in the opposite lane had gone viral. The witnesses claimed that it was this mob which dragged Sharma and 2 other inside the bungalow. Later, Sharma’s badly mutilated body with hundreds of stab wounds was found abandoned in a ditch in Chand Bagh.

The unruly Muslim mob perched on the top of Hussain’s building also flung bricks and petrol bombs at the opposite street, in order to attack a Shiv temple located there. A building adjoining to the temple was burnt down by the rampaging mob. The incessant attack on the temple structure had rendered the entire edifice rickety and tottering, on the verge of collapse.

In another such gruesome incident, a Hindu man-Dilbar Singh Negi was burnt by a mob of rioters in the burning house after being cut off with a sword. The rioters, after cutting Dilbar Singh Negi’s hands and feet, threw the rest of his body into the burning fire.

NIA arrests key terror-funding plotter Abdul Jabbar Sheikh in 2019 Vishakhapatnam espionage case from Mumbai

In a major shot in the arm for the security agencies, the National Investigative Agency on Saturday arrested a key plotter in the 2019 Vishakhapatnam espionage case from Mumbai for allegedly honey-trapping Navy personnel on social media for gathering sensitive information about locations and movement of Indian Naval ships and passing it on to his Pakistani handlers.

The accused, identified as Abdul Rehman Abdul Jabbar Sheikh, aged 53, was arrested from his residence in Mumbai after inputs received from those arrested in the case and technical analysis. The security agency has retrieved several digital devices and incriminating documents while searching the residence of accused Abdul Rehman.

Rehman is the 15th man to be arrested in the espionage case so far. Earlier, his wife Shaista Quaiser, a Pakistani-born Indian woman, was among the 14 arrested in the case. Last month on May 15, the NIA arrested another key conspirator Mohammed Haroon haji Abdul Rehman Lakdawala, 49, from Mumbai. Before this, 11 Navy personnel were arrested. All of them, including others, have been involved in terror funding.

The 2019 Visakhapatnam espionage case pertains to an international racket involving individuals based out of Pakistan and at different locations in India, including Visakhapatnam and Mumbai. It comprised of agents based in India recruited by Pakistani spies between 2011 and 2019.

Espionage racket busted in an operation code-named “Dolphin’s Nose”

The investigation into this case began on December 20 last year after the Andhra Pradesh Police, Naval Intelligence and Central Intelligence Agencies in a joint operation arrested seven navy personnel who have been allegedly involved in espionage. The racket was busted in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam, which houses the Eastern Naval Command. The operation was named “Operation Dolphin’s Nose”, after the hill named Dolphin’s nose, which is adjacent to Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam, housing the residential complexes and offices of Indian Navy.

The police had said that all the arrested officials were in touch with Pakistani women who had befriended them on Facebook. It is alleged that officials were paid through a hawala operator for providing information. The chats between these sailors, who were being used by Pakistanis, were sexually explicit. Sources said the women, who honey-trapped the navy officers posing as their friends on Facebook, were set up by the Pakistani ISI operatives. The sailors were later blackmailed and forced to give information. On December 30, 2019, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had taken over the case.

After the misuse of social media by the naval personnel came to light, the Indian Navy imposed a strict ban on the use of smartphones and social media applications such as Facebook by its personnel.

‘American filmmaker Cynthia Ritchie told me that Pakistan PM Imran Khan wanted to have sex with her’: Pakistani TV host

Pakistani TV Host Ali Saleem who is popularly known as Begum Nawazish Ali has revealed that American filmmaker Cynthia Dawn Ritchie had told him that Imran Khan liked her and offered to have sexual intercourse with her. He revealed that he was so close to her that they shared rooms for several days.

During staying together, they had become very close and Imran Khan got very much attracted to her. As a result, he had proposed her to have sex with her, Nawazish Ali claimed as Cynthia telling him.

While speaking to a Pakistani Journalist, Ali Saleem said that Cynthia never talked to him about being raped by Rehman Malik. He said, “If she was so close to me that she told me about Imran Khan’s offer to have sex with her then she could have talked about the rape she had gone through at the hands of the Rehman Malik.”

Ali Saleem clarified that he has no sympathies for Rehman Malik because he was the in-charge of Benazir Bhutto’s security cover on the day of her assassination. Instead of launching a probe against him, President Asif Ali Zardari made him the interior ministry of the country.

On this, Cynthia alleged that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is spreading fake news against her and called Ali Saleem ‘a nice guy but misguided’. She quoted journalist Naila Inayat and wrote, “PPP continues its harassment and fake news against me. And has now activated its Indian lobby against me and the govt. I’m blocked from viewing but you get the idea of the credible newsworthiness from Ali. Such a nice guy but so misguided.”

Cynthia Dawn Ritchie alleged that Rehman Malik had raped her

American filmmaker Cynthia Dawn Ritchie has accused former Pakistan Interior minister Senator Rehman Malik of raping her in 2011 at his residence. Cynthia D Ritchie has also accused former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and former health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin of physically manhandling her inside President’s House in Islamabad. Asif Ali Zardari was then President of Pakistan.

Cynthia Dawn Ritchie, who has close connections with the current Pakistani ruling establishment, also alleged that she was assaulted by other senior leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). She also alleged that her e-mail accounts were hacked and people spied on her.

Cynthia also said she had informed the US embassy in 2011 about the incident, adding that “owing to fluid and complex Pak-US relations, the response was less than adequate”

Cynthia had put out scandalous photographs of PPP leaders

The American blogger Cynthia Richie has also been reportedly sharing scandalous photographs of PPP leaders on social media. Cynthia, who is an adventurist, filmmaker, journalist, and blogger, had stoked controversy in Pakistan recently after she had attacked former prime minister Benazir Bhutto for which an FIR was registered against her by the PPP.

Last week, she had posted parts of the book “Indecent Correspondence: Secret sex life of Benazir Bhutto” on Twitter, which has the details of private lives of Benazir Bhutto, her son, current PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto and senior party leader Sherry Rehman.
